Before we get into the story, do you want to know a fun fact? Did you know that tummy time is super important for babies?
So important that I'm guessing you did tummy time when you were a baby. Laying a baby on their tummies will get them to
lift their heads, which will help them strengthen their necks, their shoulders, arm muscles,
and help them develop motor skills. Pretty cool, huh? Okay, story time. Today we are going to read
MVP, Most Valuable Puppie by Mike and Stacey Greenberg. Hi, my name is Phoebe. I like
tummy scratches, chasing tennis balls, and eating crumbs that fall from the kitchen table.
More than... I love my family. The day I met them was the very best day of my entire life.
My sister, the girl with the curly hair, walked right over to me. Our eyes met. We both smiled.
When she scratched my tummy, my pink tail started swishing so fast. We were best friends at first sight.
So now I live with my family, and every day is a new adventure.
Each morning starts with me watching Dad, the man with the beard,
talking about sports in his box.
I'm pretty sure I could be very good at sports.
That's my brother, the baby, over there.
He's really the boss around here.
Every time he makes a sound, mom, the lady who feeds me, rushes to his side.
My brother rolls from his tummy to his back.
I can do that a million times, but when my brother does it, mom cheers and takes pictures.
When my brother starts walking and talking and running and jumping, he can play with my sister and me.
My favorite time of day is when my sister comes home from school.
I wait for her, and when she gets off the bus, she always throws a ball for me to catch.
Then it's snack time.
I like to lick the crumbs from her fingers, and when I roll over, she gives me a treat.
Next, it's playground time!
There are some kids playing soccer nearby.
Hey, cute dog, what's his name?
Her name's Phoebe.
Would you like to play with us?
Sure.
I have learned a lot about soccer from watching the man with a beard in his box,
so I join right in.
I score a goal, dive for a safe, steal a ball, and lick a goalie.
and all while seeing my sister laughing and cheering.
Can you play football too?
I run straight to my sister and pick up the football.
Our eyes meet.
We both smile.
I guess you could say we both know she's ready to give it a try.
One of the kids throws the ball,
and my sister catches it.
She starts to run and everyone chases her,
but they can't catch up.
Then, just as she's about to score it,
touchdown she trips falls flat on her face and drops the ball it just slips out of her hands the girl with the curly hair looks like she might cry
i know what i have to do it's time for me to save the day i run forward and back i score a touchdown for one
team and then for the other boys and girls are chasing me and laughing except for my sister she's still sitting where she fell
Looking sad.
One of the boys yells to my sister.
Hey, great run.
You almost scored a touchdown.
Can you help us get the ball back?
She smiles and calls my name.
I run straight towards her.
And just as I'm about to jump in her lap,
bye!
Did I forget to mention I love chasing squirrels.
Squirrel!
When the squirrel runs up a tree,
the kids and I fall to the ground.
Tired from running so fast and last.
laughing so hard.
Will you come back and play with us again tomorrow?
That sounds like a lot of fun.
Looks like you just met some new friends.
Yeah, we played soccer and football with Phoebe, and I almost scored a touchdown.
Sounds like you had a ball.
You're my best friend, Phoebe.
The end.
Don't forget to stick around to see if you can answer today's paying attention.
Today's Paying Attention Question.
Before you go, do you think you can answer today's paying attention question?
What two sports did they play at the playground?
If your answer was soccer and football, you did it! Great job! You sure were paying attention.
I hope you enjoyed that story. I wonder what we're going to read next.
