Starting point is 00:00:00 Alright, so we managed to do a whole episode, and now we're doing a second one. A whole episode, and first try you got the old opening crawl. And I'm about to do it in just a second, I just wanted to provide a cool little cold open on this Thursday morning for me. On this 7.30pm for me. What kind of energy are we going to bring to each other? I'm basically on island time. I'm chill. I'm here. Whereas you're energized. You just got a Starbucks delivery. I just got a Starbucks. There's light outside my window. I believe it's the sun. There's light inside my heart. Whereas I have been stripped of all light. I am hate and rage only. I am Hades, the James Woods version of a huge conservative.
Starting point is 00:00:56 Welcome to Sad Boys, a podcast about feelings and other things also. I'm Jarvis. But not me, I'm Jordan. In case people get confused. This is, I guess, season two, episode two of Sad Boys. After a year and a half, I think, break, we have returned from two opposite sides of the pond during a worldwide lockdown. Yeah. Well, of course, we were about to go on our tour and I came over here early to the UK and, whoops, shut down. Yeah. Well, of course, we were about to go on our tour and I came over here early to the UK and whoops.
Starting point is 00:01:27 Right. Yeah, we had it. We were playing a sold out show in Stroud. Mega Coliseum. It was in my apartment. Your apartment is... Which does hold 11 fans. Oh, I thought you were going to say it was my childhood home,
Starting point is 00:01:42 which has stadium seating for 100,000 people. I don't miss it. A lot of gigs. Yeah. No, that must have been tough, especially like with the Echo. I'm sure that there was. It was nice to be raised by Steven Tyler, though. He poured some sugar on me.
Starting point is 00:01:57 Is that the right reference? No, it's not. So Steven Tyler's in Aerosmith. So they're like, don't want to miss a thing. Dude looks like a lady. All that stuff. I think pour some sugar on me is White Snake. It's Def Leppard.
Starting point is 00:02:14 Def Leppard. Ooh. So, well, you know, I was close. Kind of. Let me give it one more swing. It was nice to be raised by Cliff Richard. De Sparsito. It was nice to be raised by Cliff Richard. De Sparsito. It was nice to be raised by Luis Fonsi.
Starting point is 00:02:30 What's up, my man? How the hell are you? Dude, I'm wonderful. We were just talking before we started recording, a.k.a. the unmonetizable time. I was just talking about how... So what's the point? Yeah, I know.
Starting point is 00:02:44 So it's the stuff? Yeah, I know. It's the stuff that doesn't count. You know, like life is just the gap between podcasts. The gap between Lisa ads. Yeah. So I was just talking about how excited I was to get back to the show. And also like, I'd say the better part of, you know, I moved to Los Angeles, um, in September of last year and I didn't really find my footing. You know, people say it takes a year. Some people say it takes two years to really find your footing in LA or in a new city in general. And, um, the quarantine didn't help with that uh also i had felt like i was in a bit of a rut since becoming a full-time youtube person yeah i'd say not dissimilar from getting used to la i'd say that you were still adapting to that lifestyle despite the fact that it had been
Starting point is 00:03:38 a while right it's still just a completely foreign process and then you moved and kind of had to study yeah yeah it's it's like it was a lot of transition at once and i think i hadn't anticipated the amount or i really took for granted the the benefit that the structure of like going into an office every day and like interacting with people was doing for my mental health. And when I was alone all the time and working alone for myself and trying to motivate myself and figure out what my goals were and stuff, it just, it was really hard to, to sort of find meaning in, in that for a couple of months there. And lately, and it got to the point where I was like, you know, I am an optimistic person. And I know that at the end of the day, things are gonna, you know,
Starting point is 00:04:35 this too shall pass, right? So I knew that things are like cyclical, and I would, there were better days ahead, but I didn't know when they would come. And like, when I would there were better days ahead but I didn't know when they would when they would come and like when I would find like excitement in work again and excitement in you know the things I was doing and then the pandemic hit and like I was like okay this has kind of stunted some of the things I wanted to do anyway or some of the inroads that I was starting to make uh which I mean ties into probably so this is kind of a Q&A thing. We'll jump back in, create an episode that was easy for new people to get into. And one of the main questions is from Curvix, K-I-R-V-Y-X. They ask, can you guys play Sonic Riders on the GameCube? Sorry, no, that's the wrong question.
Starting point is 00:05:16 Hang on. No, but there are, we did a call out on Twitter for questions, and we'll be answering those today. And the most common one has been like, hey, what happened? Yeah, exactly, yeah. Where the hell have you been? Did Jordan drop the ball? Who dropped the ball?
Starting point is 00:05:32 Was it both of you? And the answer is yes. Yeah, yeah, no. And I just wanted to say that like, I've recently felt, you know, and it's like these things are not so absolute. So it's not like completely over, but I feel like legitimately i've turned a
Starting point is 00:05:45 corner and i have a lot of things that i'm really excited about that i'll talk about i can talk about what i've been up to during this week this past couple of weeks which i'm excited to tell you jordan and in general just like happy to be back and uh in action. You know what, Jov? Yeah. I'm happy that you're feeling well. I had to chew on it. I had to think about it.
Starting point is 00:06:11 Certainly not always been the case. I'm glad there was like a pregnant pause. You know, you just like really had to take it in for a second and see how you felt about me feeling good. I did some Googling. I was trying to determine just how much it influences the success of my career. And I realized that it does. Right. No, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's like hopefully there's a direct. I don't do any more five minute crafts without jarvis yeah it's true i have a
Starting point is 00:06:29 stranglehold on that uh market um yeah has anybody else done videos about life life hacks uh no no it's not it's never been done in fact they're not allowed legally i i will content claim them all just kidding that's people shouldn't weaponize that shit uh please don't quote that before i give you uh my laundry list of things i'm excited about and what i've been up to jordan how was your week pretty smooth man pretty bloody smooth um i'm gonna send you something right now we'll we'll just cut this into the edit yeah it's just it's just like a little little track people have also been asking what hobbies we picked up and mine has been been beat making so i just want to send you mine it's been straight up runescape to the day i fry i legit i i've just been okay i'm
Starting point is 00:07:10 gonna uh download this file that jordan just sent me and tell you that i have been playing runescape too much there's currently this like tournament going on right now called dead man mode where um if you die in the game you die in real life but but they like start you start an account from scratch and it's like a pvp only area everything's like really dangerous that's awesome yeah yeah and so um i am currently uh in the top 100 for this mode uh why why i don't know it's you have a lengthy zz top style beard and the sunken eyes of a killer but no before i listen to this thing i just wanted to say that like i've been playing too much runescape uh if you want to play runescape with me hit me up magic jarvis on there but uh the most fun thing
Starting point is 00:07:55 has been a lot of the nostalgia taking me back to my roots um a lot of uh getting to hang out with like my best friend russell from home. You know, no offense. He's got a special best friendship, Jordan. You know, it's... Offense taken. Yeah, I know. It's a legally binding thing. It's like I...
Starting point is 00:08:14 Because we've known each other for so long, I legally have to call him that. Right, sure. Yeah, he's... It's... What do they call it when you live together? Obligations. Oh, yeah. Blood tie.
Starting point is 00:08:25 You have that thing that, what is the principal from Harry Potter? Dumbledore. Cutting that out, the stands will cut my throat. Yeah, especially, no, actually the queen will fucking denite you. Sure, she'll do that pat on each shoulder, but then the third part is just beheading me.
Starting point is 00:08:41 So, but yeah, no, just getting to play games with old friends and and just like connect with random ass people who still play this game that i know from i believe you you met sadie in the wildy right yeah no we met in like level uh 19 wilderness around the forgotten cemetery you were buying gf i was buying gf and she was uh killing anku for her slayer task but But, you know, like I... Loser. No, I just...
Starting point is 00:09:06 I wish we were in the same room because I do want to put you in a locker. I'm going to listen to... But anyway, that's enough of a RuneScape talk. I mean, I don't want to overhype this. It's just like a small thing that I wanted your thoughts on. No, it's been overhyped. It's 522 kilobytes. So I'm pretty excited.
Starting point is 00:09:22 One bit of fire per KB. Oh, it's playing. Oh. Oh, I feel it. Oh, yeah. This is the stuff. Yeah, I was waiting for the drop. I was excited for this drop.
Starting point is 00:09:42 Yeah. Hey, I got my visa, by the way. I'll see you soon oh fuck holy shit no it's it's a real thing found out yesterday but hey bitch i uh lauren was on the same like email thread and the first thing i said it was like do not tell jarvis this is content this is money you you you grimy little uh winch i am something of a harlot for this you you charlatan you didn't ah you you really undersold me on that you were like it was 522 kilobytes my guy i was thinking about
Starting point is 00:10:21 leaving it till the end but like it kind of frames a lot of these question answers. Because, I mean, one of the number one reasons we stopped doing it even before quarantine was that I got booted. Man, I was booted out of the country because my visa expired and wasn't renewed. And I just got approval for a new one. Shit, my guy. I don't know when I'll be back. Got to wait for the embassies to reopen. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:41 Because you closed them with your protests. Yeah, as a joke. As a joke. You flipped the switch in your attic and it turned off the emphases. Oh, fuck. Oh, damn it. Yeah, that is rough. And then you can't find the fuse box.
Starting point is 00:10:51 Shit. That's the biggest news. Damn, son. Yeah, it's wild, right? I'm still processing. I feel like I'm swimming in a dream. That's some cool, good shit you got right there. It's good shit, right?
Starting point is 00:11:01 That's some cool, good shit. MP3, man. MP3 audio size 52 kilobytes today at 11 38 a.m now i can tell a bunch of other people because i didn't want you to not be in like the first three dog fuck dog that's crazy i don't know who this is holy darn tootin um now i when i say i got my visa i mean i found a pretty effective route to break into the country so i'm going to lift it's not mastercard yeah could you pick me up i know neither of us has a driving license that's a fun you know plot for a movie it's like get him to the greek or whatever except for it's
Starting point is 00:11:34 me rescuing you from the uk with no uh means of transporting myself oh yeah there is a concert at the end so that's fun in stroud with its 10 000 seat oh yeah your childhood home you mean get me to my house so here here's my new segment that i'm just gonna start called uh what's making you happy lately uh what's making me happy lately is i watched the uh the cast of community did a table read for charity and it was the best thing i've ever seen in my whole life which episode was it it was a season five episode three it's the episode where pierce died and they are now discussing his will uh it seems like a very clever attempt to uh not have chevy chase at the table read as soon as possible it guest starred um uh pedro pascal, as the agent or whatever who is discussing the details of Pierce's death. Okay, so Community, for those who aren't familiar, it's my favorite show of all time.
Starting point is 00:12:36 It was an NBC sitcom that started in 2009 starring or about a group of community college students uh who become the unlikeliest of friends and it's like it stars um uh joel mckale donald glover gillian jacobs allison brie chevy chase is there too um event nicole brown who is just spectacular i mean she's really truly wonderful in this show Jim Rash Ken Jeong Jim Rash writer of the award winning Descendants Yeah it's true And now he's kind of ripped Yeah he's very ripped
Starting point is 00:13:12 But anyway they got Donald Glover back for the table read It's just like I'll tell you what Insert Hank Hill voice I'll tell you what Bobby I can't do that good of a Hank Hill voice. I'll tell you what. But Bobby, Bobby, I love,
Starting point is 00:13:25 I can't do that good of a Hank Hill. That's the voice that Donald Glover did. Yeah. He was exclusively Hank Hill as Troy. The, the cool thing about Donald Glover being there is that I haven't seen Donald Glover publicly be the Donald Glover that was on community and in like Derek comedy and this like goofball.
Starting point is 00:13:45 And I, the weirdo era era and it was weird to me because i wasn't sure if he had just fully like engulfed in childish gambino and he was just this like cool um this cool character but no he was just like a goofball who was just like very affable and always like making jokes like sort of making silly jokes during the table read and shit it just made me so happy to see him like that um and to know that that's still who he is uh and obviously he's not his you know public appearances but it was cool to see that side of him again i think it's also nice it's like a nice boon reminding you that the past and the future exists during a time like this yes Yes. Donald Glover was something and now he is something and he had show um and that that's something i'm looking forward to uh i want to start streaming video games uh i don't know when what capacity how when where but i want to get a
Starting point is 00:14:56 twitch going and new episodes of rick and morty are really good um and oh you have a high enough iq for that yeah i think i well i i studied a lot i i i did i did a lot of deep reading a lot of deep cleaning i got a degree for i got a degree for it uh i got a degree in in alcoholic bourbon and yeah okay so that's that's all the things i wanted to talk about that are making me fucking jazzed other than this podcast being back and your visa news like the fuck it's funny you mentioned the game streaming honestly because one of the things that's i this this podcast is so fun that like the last time we did an episode i was just overjoyed so it didn't really show but i've for like a couple months been
Starting point is 00:15:32 the most depressed i've ever been in my whole life which is a tall order now that i'm like uh i guess we we should do an episode of medication because since the show came back yeah in between the show coming back yeah we i believe you changed it pretty significantly and i started it yeah became a true hobbyist over the last couple years well you were diagnosed with things that you you know so that's a big step first of all and then you like started making strides i mean i'll just say it was bipolar too that was like the big right big reveal which uh is obviously responsible for a lot of the other depressive drops but the last couple months have just been just nightmarish like more reasons than just the visa and more reasons than just
Starting point is 00:16:08 quarantine it was like a sequence of what else could go wrong and here's a worse version of that a series of unfortunate events so to speak yeah except i'm only the baby any siblings helping out young young lemony snickers i'm neil patrick harris but not from that i'm him in gone girl and i've just been i've had my neck sliced right right uh yeah so that was that was just this this major major stress and the one of the number one things seriously putting pressure on me was i am more than ready to just lean into this creative stuff with you full time and i kept thinking yeah man i wish me and jarvis could stream together man oh man i wish me and jarvis could podcast on the same time zone man as soon as this is over i wish me and jarvis
Starting point is 00:16:52 could podcast in the same room and make more videos and just goes nuts yeah yeah hanging over me with the possibility of never happening because this visa was i mean it was 50 50 but i felt more like it was like a 20 chance of getting it so for a really long time i'd kind of dropped that dream and the moment i got it yesterday i thought of two things immediately cool i get to see my cat again and two me and jarvis can do the stuff we want to do and that that is currently buoying me through the water of misery that the world has right now yes you make me happy buddy oh special boy no man i a special boy. No, man. Oh, my gosh. Yeah. Likewise. I mean, I'm just staring at this photo of you in a suit, and I'm just like, look at that suave young gentleman. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:31 My profile picture when I was a thick boy. Like, I can't not express how excited. Like, I've thought about bringing this podcast back probably every day of the last like year and a half and uh i'm excited for it to for i think finally like reconnecting the two of us when you move to la and then having that severed again on like a i found out when we were having a bachelor watch party at your house oh yeah so there was like this hey we're all together finally it's happening and then i got the news and i do want to say this because i do think it's fascinating i did punch a small hole in your wall yeah yeah and i fixed it immediately because i was worried that if you saw one of my videos and saw the hole it would be a triggering experience and i was like i'm gonna
Starting point is 00:18:14 be a good a good friend and i'm gonna call a task grab it post haste and i did and it was it was it was fine it was me it that was strange i didn't know you were a carpenter well i punched it so i could get a gig oh that makes it it is the gig economy and sometimes you have to you're a job creator i put some towels on your toilet so i can come do some plumbing oh my god jordan it's nothing but good news all the way down um by john green and i think that we should take a peek at the replies to the tweet that i tweeted this morning um i gotta say dude what i don't want to encourage people that now stop being mean but what an incredibly wholesome and kind community it's everybody for this show like i this show just makes me so happy because of the way the conversations i get to have with people while also being like goofy and
Starting point is 00:19:02 shit you know it's like ah it's just the I tweeted, um, at Jarvis this morning. Remember you can follow us at sad boys pod on Twitter and you can follow Jordan at Jordan Adika and you can follow me, uh, at Jarvis. That's right. I've got my own first name and you can't have it. Um, good luck trying. Oh, they succeeded. Uh, I do get a fair amount of DMs that are like, so how much for the username? And I'm like, uh, what? Well, they just say, they say how much and you're interpreting that as the username. That's true. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:32 It's always, it's always like from like Jarvis the God, like 69. And he's like 16. FaZe Jarvis. Yeah, he's 16. And he's like, I'll give you $25. Like, how could you say no um i tweeted uh recording sad boys this morning reply with any questions you have for me and jordan uh regarding life in quarantine or anything that isn't that also uh and i think i should just go down the
Starting point is 00:19:58 line because like i pulled out a few of my favorites but i think there's there's no bad ones oh hell yeah okay so so maybe we'll just alternate then yeah that's a good idea so um olivia uh who i met at vidcon said um have either of you started slash are planning to watch avatar the last airbender on netflix the live action adaptation um is that is it a netflix series the live action one so yeah or is or is avatar the original series on netflix uh it is in one so yeah or is or is avatar the original series on netflix uh it is in the uk i don't know about that let's check uh but i believe i'm checking yeah the new show is a netflix original yeah okay yes i see so both so both are here so there's the original series and uh and a live action thing that's coming what are your thoughts i actually
Starting point is 00:20:44 don't know anything about it. I'll grab that nerd cred you just dropped on the ground because it's one of my favorite things. It's one of my favorite just pieces of media in the history of the race of men. And I like need something interesting associated with it. I liked Korra. It didn't grab me until season two.
Starting point is 00:21:00 Season two is a lot stronger. I actually recommend that for people, even if you haven't watched the original, it might be fun to flip it and kind of get a prequel story. I don't know. Totally up to you. Cool. It has no impact on me, so screw you. Honestly, I really am not a fan of dogmatic gatekeeping when it comes to shows and adaptations.
Starting point is 00:21:21 I think it's only interesting to have more stuff. I agree. I agreed that I would really like it to be strong, comes to shows and adaptations i think it's only interesting to have more stuff i agree uh agreed that i would really like it to be strong and i don't know enough about the talent attached to know if it would be i believe one of the original creators maybe two of them are still attached i i am here for it i will watch it i am just firmly in the boat of yeah go ahead let me know it yeah remove the previous one from my my beloved, nor does it rob it of any value. I like the movie. I don't like the movie.
Starting point is 00:21:49 It's absolute trash. But it's beautiful, fascinating trash. Having a really poor adaptation is something to examine and work. I agree, yeah. Having something that you can have a conversation about holds value. You know, it's like, yeah i i agree with that i think that you know dragon ball evolution the movie starring justin shatwin uh bad example as goku is is not has no you know impact on the legacy of dragon ball though it is a curious thing to look at and something i will i
Starting point is 00:22:21 could like dragon ball if there was a scene where he slid on his head along the roof of a car yeah there's uh i i think i need to make a commentary video about that movie i would love to do that i would love to just do a straight up commentary too like just watch it live oh yeah that would be interesting there is a there's a moment in that movie i mean all of his abilities are not unlocked through his training with roshi yeah they're unlocked through him being really horny also yeah want that and then the whole concept of him getting bullied is ridiculous especially when it says at one point the movie this part where he like slides across his with his head on the top of a of a car yeah he's spurred on by the fact that his grandfather is like goku you must
Starting point is 00:23:05 not use violence you must not use your abilities promise me and then he's just kind of vaguely like oh yeah okay dad okay daddy dad and then he goes to a party people try and start to fight him the son from the leftovers starts to fight him and they just get completely bodied because obviously they would and all of a sudden obviously doesn't really add up that people don't like him he could just be a cool jock by choice right right like yeah it doesn't it doesn't add up there's nothing yeah nothing checks out with that movie uh there's a million things wrong uh and i and these are just like we don't even have time because we'll do i guess we'll do that i guess we'll make the video uh we will uh what's uh what's your what's your question uh i got a question here uh well
Starting point is 00:23:46 mika actually asked what's been stopping you from recording sad boys i think we kind of touched that but yeah i like how many people have been vocal about it even now i think your the growth of your channel has actually brought a lot of people to the older episodes because i i get dms about it most days and i right right all from people that like just started listening to it like a month ago yeah i don't know if we i think we did mention it that like the last time we recorded sad boys i had 30,000 youtube subscribers yeah yeah and so it's kind of now you have so much more but the content i would say has gotten exponentially worse yeah now i have uh 30,007 i tried to find one that's like semi quarantine related oh actually, actually, well,
Starting point is 00:24:26 this one's kind of interesting. What hobbies have you picked up since quarantine? Quarantined Jay and Mimi, both asked that. I would say that I'm just spending a lot of time on the computer. I'm watching a lot of documentaries about speedrunning. I'm obsessed with Summoning Salt's YouTube channel. It's very good. Jordan and I watched a Practical Task video that was like an hour long about
Starting point is 00:24:55 the history of the Break the Targets Peach run. Peach record in Super Smash Bros. Melee. It was our equivalent of It's a Wonderful Life. Yeah, I feel like that was what kicked off. That and a few videos about the history of Guitar Hero, score through the fire and flames of Guitar Hero.
Starting point is 00:25:17 You had a storied history with Guitar Hero, right? Yeah, I used to play Guitar Hero a lot, and then I played it competitively a bit as well. But I think for me, I love watching these speedrunning videos, the ones that tell the story, even if I don't know much about those games but i really connect with a well-told story and also a group of people getting together to like solve big problems and push each other further and further it feels a little bit like we're going to the moon you know and everybody's working to find like new skips and strategies and there's competition between people and that's just like really cool um so that's that's a hobby i guess uh or that's at least something i'm watching i'm playing a lot of runescape i need to just say that again i play so much runescape uh jordan
Starting point is 00:26:18 what hobbies have you been taking up i've been picking up a lot of stuff that scratch the same creative itch that I would normally have But, you know, like, really sincerely, it's been very hard until yesterday and onwards It's been really hard to engage with a lot of my creative passions from when I lived in LA Like my D&D show at ARCS, P-O-D, ARCSpod It's sick, if I do say so myself It's great And there's, like, the same goes for, I used to like orchestrated music and like cinematic
Starting point is 00:26:47 music and I just couldn't do it anymore because it was so tied to ARX and ARX is also all of the voices of the friends I don't get to see anymore and Sad Boys touched on that as well. Yeah, yeah. But as a result, I had to find something else that scratched similar itches and it's been writing scripts for videos that I'm really excited to toy around and shoot. Oh, that's very exciting. About a week, I actually found a space in town that i can shoot it it's nice and
Starting point is 00:27:08 clean and white and lovely nice white culturally um right right that's important that's how cody puts out so many videos we but see the thing is since we're only half white we need to be together in order to be surrounded by a white person at all times by one white guy yeah yeah justin but yeah as a result like it's writing videos and it's also making beats i've been making like a lot of beats uh there's actually i made a video for one you can check out my channel at jordan adika adika on instagram i got a question also from mika hang on a little bit of righteous fury specifically at jordan when are you supposed to get good at instagram excuse you i saw that
Starting point is 00:27:45 excuse you right to the grave the answer is yesterday my guy thank you yeah there's some videos up there a cleansed middle post zone i'm trying to do stories more uh it's i've been really really proud of the music like yeah actually i've been impressed i've been impressed with your output uh some way i want to get better is to post more on Twitter and Instagram and TikTok and stuff. Because I always enjoy once I've done it. But I get so bogged down in a video that I forget to create elsewhere. Even though I know it'll make me feel good. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:28:18 And this has been a friend of mine, Evan. He is a music producer and we work on one of the same audio fiction podcast he is so into that like immediate delivery immediate release non-overmixing non-over obsession thing and we've just been sending a track to each other like every two to three days if possible just like back and forth very cool ep because he's absurdly talented and there is something really really gratifying about having a forum like instagram i haven haven't been posting them as posts. I've just been putting them up as stories, but almost everything I've been putting up,
Starting point is 00:28:48 with the exception of the Nani video, which is a post, have been in less than a day. Make the beat, make the video, release it by midnight, no matter what, and there's something really, really satisfying about that. It doesn't have to be music, but I encourage people to, if they have... My psychiatrist talks a lot about mastery not having to be mastering. Like developing mastery feels good, but you don't have to be a master in order for it to feel good. So if you want to learn piano, you don't have to play in concert to enjoy doing it.
Starting point is 00:29:17 Yeah, I agree. I agree. Alexis, our friend Alexis, says. Hey, Alexis, what's up? I know. Hey, Alexis. Dude, Alexis is popping off now. She's popping off.
Starting point is 00:29:26 Alexis, you've been putting out phenomenal stuff lately. Yes. I think the quarantine has given you extra power. I know. I'm very proud of Alexis. You should check her out at YayAlexisGay on Twitter. She's been putting out hilarious videos. She's going viral. She's blowing up.
Starting point is 00:29:40 We're excited for her. She says, my question is is how are you both so awesome maybe you could give some aware awesomeness to others i it's a question and a comment this seems off base because i feel like alexis should be informing us about that i know it's like wait it's like uh takes one to no one or something right like alexis yeah we get really we get really defensive hey hey relax yeah whoa whoa whoa let's not get ahead of ourselves you give me some advice please i mean we're not awesome we're just nice boys we're just nice boys but i think that like uh one of the things that we like that we share with the world
Starting point is 00:30:16 is just like putting ourselves out there and being being vulnerable because there's there's strength in that and it can also help other people. And then we also can be goofballs. And that is the premise of a podcast called Tiny Meat Gang. TMG. We went to the same place. We went to the same place. I'm glad we did.
Starting point is 00:30:35 We mention TMG in every episode. Surely they have to spend some time with us. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's true. A good friend, Eric Silva. Oh, man. El Silvero. El underscore Silvero.
Starting point is 00:30:44 Very good friend of ours over at the Multitude Podcast Network who actually, I believe it's out. I was on his new What's Your Favorite Pokemon show. Oh. Where he ends it by saying a kind thing about you. Classic Eric. Classic sweetheart. That's cool.
Starting point is 00:30:59 I like that. I'm a big fan of Eric's horse podcast, which he does with our good friend, Michael Schubert, where they talk about basketball, but in a very accessible way, basically everything except for the wins and losses. Side shout out to Dunktown too. Oh, and shout out to Dunktown. Enjoy those two shows better made than our own.
Starting point is 00:31:16 Two great basketball pods for people who like are curious about basketball, but like need an accessible in. Like I wouldn't consider myself a huge basketball fan but i love hearing the stories of basketball um and yeah these these people are fantastic nothing nothing generates true attractive personalities like basketball and i the exact same as i had even less literacy like i knew absolutely dick because it's just not really a thing in the uk nearly as much yeah yeah yeah both of those shows and a little bit of the flagrant ones which is the guys from hollywood handbook oh yeah carl tart those shows just it's remarkable how quickly even though i'm still not watching a lot of games especially now the narrative of it is just so appealing it's almost
Starting point is 00:31:58 like listening to like a true crime but more optimistic yeah exactly so eric's question is what video games are we playing i think we know my answer yeah you're you're scaping it up but are you also are you playing a lot of melee still or a lot of smash either one you know so so i am not playing that much ultimate but i keep thinking i want to play more and then i've also been thinking i want to play melee just to fuck around in classic mode and like break the targets and stuff just to like get a feel for the game dolphin emulator i mean a legally acquired version of the game yeah is if you if you like get it all set up correctly the latency is silky smooth if you're in the same area we should once i move back and i get my pc we should just set that up because it is just a
Starting point is 00:32:40 blast it's like my favorite game ever i have 20xx set up actually yeah perfect and i um i just like haven't made a point to play it's like sometimes i am bad at doing things that i want to do yep sure and that's something that i struggle with for sure i think that's especially a point at the moment i mean like physical motion good sleep and general well-being are the number one motivators for dopamine and serotonin and i think lately no matter how active you're trying to be you just can't avoid being pretty sedentary and pretty isolated yeah and i think we've both kind of been struggling as i imagine a lot of people are with the hey look you have an opportunity to do all the things you generally like to do right most of your creative outlets have not really
Starting point is 00:33:23 been taken away from you but like cooking doesn't feel good anymore and also like yeah i've learned that i struggle with anxiety like i kind of learned that that's what you know some of these feelings are and um and and that's something that i'm you know learning to to to deal with and in process and stuff um i know there are like a couple of like there's like a very strict medicinal definition of of anxiety which yeah yeah both probably had extensive conversations about but my mom was struggling with anxiety because she she i won't go into details but the place we were staying before we moved down back to stroud was just like like really really difficult for her for a number of reasons and now that we're here she was feeling really rough despite all of the all the vast majority of the things giving her
Starting point is 00:34:11 anxiety being reduced like we're it's the only we're the only two members of our direct family yeah it's not like we're isolated from people we're staying together it was all going smooth yeah but her anxiety as in just baseless constant tension and seeking of like a reason to feel that way. I described it as like a memory foam pillow. Your anxiety is sat there for two weeks because you haven't got that video out or you went on that date and never followed up. Or like something is making you like rot in a way. And so you're lying on that pillow. Then you get up, you go back, you lie lying on that pillow then you get up you go back
Starting point is 00:34:45 you lie back on that pillow two months later and it's like the cavity is still well that's also like the uh those neural pathways are like already formed so you have to like do some work to untrain them you know what i mean and that's like the basis of uh like cognitive behavioral therapy or whatever not that either of us know what we're talking about. Please consult experts. But we're just speaking to our own experiences. I mean, we each have half of a medical degree. It's true. It's with our white person.
Starting point is 00:35:16 Our half white person is a doctor. What games are you playing, though? Literally two days ago, i got super into destiny ah destiny 2 mainly just because a friend of mine is a massive weeb and gamer and we wanted something that we could play together prior to that i was playing a absolute shit ton of cod modern warfare the new one yeah and the moment i moved out of the place we were staying last time which uh my cousin was we were staying with my extended family and my, my cousin,
Starting point is 00:35:46 this is not the last place. This is a, another place we were staying for a little while. Right. We moved five times this year. Oh my God. Uh, we,
Starting point is 00:35:53 me and my cousin were playing a kind of Todd, a kind of Todd. And the moment that I have started playing it by myself, now that I'm not sharing a room is miserable. I'm never so sure. I, I love the N word. Don't get me wrong yeah that's true yeah
Starting point is 00:36:06 no that's true and then i mean honestly right now it's persona 5 ah my guy the weeaboo energy oh man persona 5 and destiny 2 that would be a fun game to uh uh to stream and like do a let's play type shit with yeah very much so i actually recommend people that are looking for and absorb you but ultimately give you a positive feeling at the end of the day i would highly recommend persona 5 largely because it's just it's vibrant and colorful and enthusiastic and the music is so bombastic it's like a ton of jazz fusion tracks while you like and you're like fighting yeah pixies with a giant lead pipe that is created using your imagination it's just like so vibrant and i think it's a good game to play if you want to lose hours but not feel like they're empty calories yeah cod i dude i fucking love persona
Starting point is 00:36:58 games uh russell and i would like we played through persona 3 and 4 together yeah we just like just did a little co-op action. Like just like. Have you looked at Persona 3 recently by the way? I was watching footage because I just love that game. Yeah. That game it looks so much worse than I remember. Well it's funny because Zero did a maybe a couple months ago.
Starting point is 00:37:20 Zero streamed a playthrough of Persona 3 and Persona 4 and Persona 5, I think. And it was cool to watch him experience those games. Yeah. I also recommend, because 4 is kind of hard to get a hold of unless you have a Vita. But if you do want to just absorb that universe, it's an anthology series, so they are not dependent on one another. Yeah, yeah, yeah. If you do want to watch or absorb some of the Persona media, I recommend watching the
Starting point is 00:37:44 anime for 4. Persona 4 Golden is a fantastic anime. And nice and concise. I need to watch or absorb some of the persona media i recommend watching the anime for four persona for golden is oh yeah fantastic anime and nice and concise i need to watch that i wouldn't recommend watching three right now because it's incredibly depressing it might not be the time that's the one where they engage their persona powers by shooting them in the head did i have ever talked about oh yeah yeah i mean that's like that is the most fucking sick shit in the world to me in high school and middle school. I pirated Persona 3. The Statue of Limitations is out on that. And I played it on my modded PS2.
Starting point is 00:38:16 The reason I pirated it is so that I could get Japanese audio with the English menu and stuff. Yeah, boy. Shout out to people that do want to play Persona 5. Make sure to go on the PlayStation Store. Get that sub subby i played for all dub and it's great and the yeah yeah great and i believe troy baker's i mean yeah now now the dubs are so good now just in general persona big fan that's sad boys approved right there that's a very sad boysy game if you think about it get in there friends you literally level up your fighting ability by making friends persona every time i have like a deep conversation with you i hear dun dun dun social rank update oh yeah oh for sure like when we finish this podcast we're both gonna get a
Starting point is 00:38:58 social rank up okay wait i want to i want to throw in some more questions there's some questions in here that we've already answered but i think it would be cool to say the person's name because they did ask. Someone says what were the reasons for going on hiatus? Is it because you hi-ate us? And so I feel like I need to call out that.
Starting point is 00:39:18 I mean, yeah, specifically them, right? Yeah, no, it's because we hate you, Matt R. We can see it in the downloads. Only you. We just see Matt R when you come up. And we bounced, man. We're not making stuff for you, bud. Behemoth Knight asks, how hard is it to find motivation to make videos during quarantine? To which I would say it was hard initially because I work with a couple of people now to just help me stay organized and edit videos and just have someone to
Starting point is 00:39:47 be there to experience work with me because I just need co-workers. I was like, I go insane. And we had started to find a good like cadence. We'd started to find a good like way of working together. And then COVID happened and we needed to figure out like how to make it remote and there's a little bit of a pain like a little bit of friction to doing that but now i feel good again and i'm quite excited to make videos so um so yeah that's the answer to that question i got some premises for videos because most of them are pretty much written at this point i just decide what i want to shoot and adjust but like yeah do you want to who knows maybe we keep this in the show and get some feedback on it. Is there like the real estate or is it wise to do another five minute crafts like collab?
Starting point is 00:40:32 Oh, absolutely. Great. Okay. Because I think that would work quite well for a remote collab. Yeah. Like we each just do a portion, put each other in each other's videos. Yeah, I agree with that. I'm 100% down and I think it'll work really well.
Starting point is 00:40:43 Great. Okay. I'll see if there's anything funny on those channels. Yeah, we should definitely just like make videos where it's like we're like Easter eggs and we have like call out segments in each other's video. Or, yeah, we can come up with the mechanics of it. But I think it's a great idea. Yeah. And it genuinely tweeted us.
Starting point is 00:41:04 I'm legitimately curious i put out a poll the other day on instagram and i got a ton of great ideas and i promise to credit you people if i end up using any of those and can i and if you don't want them can i have them i because i'm starved for ideas you do have to give them all of the money um yeah let's just make the same videos over and over again the algorithm would love it and it would make our lives easier what has been your most useless plus most expensive purchase during quarantine oh mine is pre-ordering the last of us 2 if there is literally no point there is no benefit to pre-ordering that game digitally i mean i think the fact that i postmates coffee to my house is probably like one of the most dumb things I do. And I can, I also regularly make my own coffee and have all the materials to do so.
Starting point is 00:41:50 I just sometimes like not having to do it because it tastes different when someone does it for you. It's a treat that's so familiar to me now. The fact that I could like be like, I want to have a good morning and I want to treat myself. so I'm just going to like order some fills or something I need I needed to find a new outlet for that because it's nice to have those little things that you can do for yourself you know it we also got I should point out that very nice question was from Amber who's at a spooky
Starting point is 00:42:18 a way spooky wait bro yes one hour ago is profit. Can y'all make more 5-Minute Crafts videos unironically? The energy y'all have in these videos is unmatched. What's better than a fresh set of nails? There's a DM I get every single day of my adult life. Oh my god. There's so many inside jokes. Remember when we were first making the show and we were like, oh, these inside jokes we will forget at some point.
Starting point is 00:42:42 And people, like, even when we were doing the show regularly, we didn't know what people were talking about sometimes how's justin doing do we have any more news about justin gate i don't know what justin gate is i don't remember was it when i mean is justin gate the event of hero calling in and calling you justin maybe i don't uh justin i mean yeah let's say yes and if we're wrong uh tweet on the next q a and we'll we'll catch that i also want to mention that please people do not forget that on the last episode of this show on episode 29 maybe we did read an itunes review which referred to you as Jarvin. And getting into that. Justin and Jarvin, baby. Oddspray at Sprayod.
Starting point is 00:43:28 I see what you did there. Says, can you do a Donald Duck impression? Whoops, that isn't a question. It's a demand. I know where you live. See that red dot? Of course you don't. It's on your forehead.
Starting point is 00:43:38 30 seconds. To which I say, quack, quack. That's all I got. He said you did a poor job. Oh, God. That wasn't enough for him Isaac Tone asks Who obviously as I'm sure you can guess Oh wait no I would like to guess Let's just say it at the
Starting point is 00:43:53 Let's just say it at the same time Sure and that's perfectly organic Yeah yeah yeah it's at Shinobi07905791 Yeah exactly Wild You said his name was Isaac Tone 07905791 Yeah, exactly Wild! You said his name was Isaac Tone So I just, you know
Starting point is 00:44:10 What's the binary for that? Including numbers other than 0 and 1 Isaac Tone asks What is U2's favorite song on Spotify? I assume they don't mean Bono and the gang Yeah I have told you the story about when i first learned about youtube in middle school i thought someone someone told me to go to youtube.com and i went to youtube.com
Starting point is 00:44:32 and you produce videos for seven years yeah i've uploaded them to bono and edge yeah um okay funny that uh bono is the one that's into tantric sect sex but it's his friend that's called excuse me it's like a famous thing about him oh no whoa whoa that slander it's sting it's steven tyler that's funny someone call the police wait sting is in the police right yeah uh yes okay cool so my joke works okay i i have an answer to what my favorite song is, Jordan. And it is the song... Of the South? What?
Starting point is 00:45:09 It's the song that never ends. It's a song by Aubrey Drake Graham, our good friend. And it's called Chicago Freestyle. And it's very good. It's featuring someone. Drake. It's Drake featuring Drake. It's featuring this guy, Gideon.
Starting point is 00:45:26 He kind of sounds like Sampha, but he's not. He's young. He's like 18 or something. It's very good. It's very good. The reason I like it so much, well, one of the reasons I like it so much is because the song hits you with a reference to, with an interpolation of Eminem's Superman. Oh, wow. song superman by
Starting point is 00:45:46 eminem they had a big whiteboard and they were like how do we hit this exact demographic and then point it to a picture of you it was a laser pointed you know i i wouldn't have been surprised if it was odd spray hitting me with a red dot on my forehead to say you know what this drake song needs a reference to eminem a reference to a song for jarvis for jarvis specifically um and when that hit me i just it just became a full-on banger in my eyes and old eminem we're talking uh it became a full-on banger in my eyes and uh that's the song i i like a lot i listen to it like once a day at least yeah how about you jordan uh i'm exclusively into bangers that slap these days they do have to
Starting point is 00:46:25 slap they do have to slap harder than a runaway train and to run away train slap i assume they if they hit you hard enough barrel forward i suppose it's a slap of of a kind true it is yeah what is a slap if not uh a train that's moving as fast as a speeding bullet. What is a slap in this modern American nightmare? Can it be anything? I have been listening to my on repeat. I generally don't like to listen to songs too much because I like giving them kind of the lifeline of me not getting too sick of them.
Starting point is 00:46:58 And then I kind of just have them forever. You know what I mean? But then there are these occasional exceptions. And lately I've just been in such a rut that I think I wanted a rut of music. I didn't want to explore too much. Yeah. Though I will give a shout out to a friend of mine on Instagram who goes by Creeping Charlie, who just released an EP called Asymmetrical.
Starting point is 00:47:19 It's a banger that slaps. I will tell you that much. Damn. It's like I'm doing those your top songs 2019 or on repeat or anything like that and in my on repeat the three that I'm genuinely just in love with and will never ever stop listening to is Sangria by Easy Life featuring Arlo Parks which is like if I could bottle talent and produce a piece of music it would be that like it is. Right. Then it's Puff Daddy the the JPEG Mafia Kenny Beats one. Oh that's funny. It right then it's puff daddy the the jpeg mafia kenny beats one oh that's funny it's just
Starting point is 00:47:45 it's just goes so incredibly hard and sometimes you need that sometimes you need to express some rage in a in a nasty little way and then of course uh dictator by ray and me that's been in my head for a really long time those are like the most recent tracks sugar by rock hampton is there but i feel like that's kind of a basic answer oh yeah yeah yeah and then your boy joji's been making a lot of appearances which probably says something about my mental state i know did you know that he is disgusting frank yeah i just couldn't i i just like i don't know if you saw this it was trending the other day uh people were just like realizing that really they were just fighting out yeah i think it was just like a bunch of young people were just the thing man the the the a.a rising crew they've got
Starting point is 00:48:22 careers outside of music a lot of them like just some weird little references already obviously uh rich brian back when he was rich sugar was pretty prominent on youtube as well yeah yeah no joji's i mean he's an absurdly talented person but if you go back to his videos even the ones that he would do collabs on he's like alt pop is what he's always wanted to do always it was always yeah and i think i really admire somebody that's able to not just like jump into a portion of their career and their brand that they're excited to touch, but one that does it without any compromise. Big shout outs to you, George Miller. Come play with us on a podcast. That would be fun.
Starting point is 00:48:53 Do we want to take like maybe one more question and then call it a pod? Assign some homework and get the heck out of here. What ice cream flavor is best? Oh, that's not a good conversation. Say it at the same time. Three, two, one. Chocolate. Oh my God. Goddamn. flavor is best oh that's not a good conversation say it at the same time three two one chocolate oh my god damn well i mean technically we are both so yeah i know it's true it makes sense that's the we had to average that out or else the universe representation the universe would
Starting point is 00:49:17 fall out of equilibrium well i'm currently staying in my hometown which is the widest part of the world so the widest kids you know one kids that i know is an entire population of a small town is my girlfriend a robot um next question what video did you regret making yeah i saw that that's interesting i don't regret making anything i mean i would unless it had had some kind of negative effect on the things you made why would you yeah no it's like i've there's things i've considered about like with my tech videos because they still do get a considerable amount of views and i wonder how that impacts like the growth on my channel because there are some people coming in who like are not looking for the stuff i make now the my whole computer science degree in 12 minutes when
Starting point is 00:49:57 it came out it was my most popular video and all the metrics for it were like the highest i'd ever seen so the um deciding to make the trim trim video was me like going for what i wanted rather than like doubling down on something that i knew would work but ultimately like wasn't where i wanted my like youtube career to go so i i always think of that as like a very pivotal moment for me i think what you do now while you well you did and continue to love tech and it has a place in both of our hearts i think tech was for you or tech videos were a forum for what you wanted to do which is comedy and like to articulate the things that you enjoy and you know be funny and generate that kind of audience and i what you do now is just so much better for that particular kind of
Starting point is 00:50:43 dialect oh thanks what you do now is the forum for you to be your best version of that. Oh, thanks so much. I hate what you produce. I don't understand it. Right, no, I understand. My little nephew, he's amazing with computers. He's been showing me how to watch a lot of these YouTube videos. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:57 They're great. You, not so much. I'm really mainly into Ellen clips. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, I understand. Wait, can I ask you something about your experience in LA so far? far yeah the first two things that i feel like everybody told me when i moved to la just over and over is like you've got to get a car there's no way you can do it otherwise yes and then two did you know ellen is a piece of shit yes dude i a hundred percent that's exactly in that order.
Starting point is 00:51:27 It's like, welcome to Los Angeles. Here's your driver's license. And Ellen sucks. And some fire. Yeah, dude, it's crazy. It's crazy how many people have like personal stories too. Yeah. Ellen, come on the show.
Starting point is 00:51:40 Yeah. Yeah. Well, that's like, it's such a bummer too. Cause like, you know, she's an important figure in media. I hopeia de rossi is nice yeah yeah yeah me too but also like i think the criticism she receives hopefully is getting to her because like i i love to see people grow and i never want to doubt the opportunity for you know someone to grow i don't believe people are stagnant so james at joe para 94 j-o-p-i-r-a 94 great year to be born much better than 95 or 96 especially it's it's way worse though than 92 let me tell you oh no doubt which sad boy is the best sad boy and i thought this was just like a kind of no no direction question but sincerely man this is the most we've talked a really long time.
Starting point is 00:52:26 And I love you. And you are my favorite sad boy. You're my favorite sad boy. And to the listeners, thanks for being patient with us. And thanks for coming along and staying along on the journey. And what do you want us to do? That was the thing that popped to mind because you mentioned Discord earlier. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:52:41 I was going to say that as well. Yeah. What do you want to hear us talk about? I've got a lot of ideas. There's just so much that we can talk about since it's been so long. So there's a lot of stuff that's transpired. A lot of our opinions on past things may have changed. I also think that revisiting topics could be really interesting.
Starting point is 00:53:00 And I definitely want to keep like a loose feel to the show. Like I don't want it to ever feel like too much work because it's, you know, in its essence, a group therapy session with two boys. Yeah. Let us know topics that you think would be fun. And also feel free to send questions at any point. I'll always make note of if I want to see one that's really interesting.
Starting point is 00:53:20 If y'all want a Discord channel or something in that realm, let us know. Because that could be fun. But I want to know what people want to see. I think that could be fine. If you want to reach out to us, you can find our Sad Boys channels on Twitter at Sad Boys Pod. And you can also find my Twitter and Instagram at Jarvis. Jordan, how can people get in contact with you? You can hit me up at J-O-R-D-A-N-A-D-I-K-A.
Starting point is 00:53:50 Yeah, you can find me there. You can also listen to a podcast, What I Made, called ARKS. It's a Dungeons and Dragons podcast, but it's intended to be for anybody. You can also, the URL for the URL, the app for that is A-R-C-S-P-O-D. And you should also listen to Join the Party, which is the aforementioned Eric Silver's one, which is vastly superior.
Starting point is 00:54:10 But I wouldn't say that to his face. Oh, God, he listens to the show. What's the homework for this week, Jordan? I kind of just want to get like a surplus of thoughts and feelings and questions and suggestions. Like I really stuff like the Discord. I want just like, yes, you should do this Discord. Here are the channels you should have mess me up we are on the same page i love that jordan thanks for talking to me it's okay man anytime all right well we end every episode of sad boys with a particular phrase bye bye everybody live mass remember we love you and
Starting point is 00:54:41 we're sorry boom that was the boom was strangely synced on my end oh hell yeah yeah harmonized fuck the fuck yeah oh i'm hard cutting on that in the edit fuck the fuck yeah My name is Jeff. My name is Jeff.
