Three, two, one.
You can't let go of your love for somebody
because you're afraid of what might happen.
You got to take the good with the bed no matter what.
I just searched up flash quotes,
and this appears to be from the show and not even the movie.
I don't know.
I had some other ideas,
and then I was like, nah, I got to save that one for another thing.
Anyway, fuck it.
That's fine.
Hello.
Quick whip out a clip from the Snyder cut.
No, he was in that, right?
Oh, okay.
I guess so.
I can't think of fun.
I'm Adam from your movie sex.
This is Sardonicast.
Isn't he in the crimes of Grindelwald or the Fantastic Beast movies?
Anyway, I'm Ralph the movie maker.
I'm Max Maitry and the Flash, everybody.
He's on rampage.
He's beating up Hawaii.
Yeah.
I mean, sorry, they.
They're causing trouble.
Sorry, yeah.
Yeah.
They're a menace to society.
Yeah.
I don't actually, I can't like keep, like, keep.
it straight in terms of what they've been up to. It's turned into like a joke now, like on Twitter.
I don't even know, like, just accusing him of all sorts of, like, an insane act.
Yeah. So what, he's, like, assault to people? He's, like, accused of, what, grooming as well as in there, I'm sure?
Grooming and or kidnapping. We're not really sure. It's, like, some sort of weird
psycholog. Like, I have no idea what the hell that accusation's all about. Because it seems to be, like,
There's a, there's like parents trying to get back their children from them, but like, they're posting on their social media for, on their behalf or something.
Like, the parents are like, they don't have a phone.
But yeah, I just, I just Google what the latest headline is, and there's one from the Guardian.
Ezra Miller accused of housing children on a farm with guns and marijuana.
So that's what, that's what we're currently at.
That's the latest one I saw, too.
have you seen some of the
Instagram posts that they were putting
on their story? Yeah
Joker style
No
yeah straight up
I don't know why they would
Yeah
That's funny
Do you have some of them
Yeah I just went on Google images
And I'm looking at some of them
There's a really weird one with like
Ben Affleck
Um
that you'd written
Ha Ha or the
So it's really hard to keep track of
Because they were like deleted stories
They just up for a short amount
time.
Oh, the, the most infamous one is the, he uploaded like, it's like a screenshot of a picture
of water, I think, with the text, you cannot touch me.
I'm in another universe.
I wonder, like, what kind of privileged nepotism breeds this kind of asshole?
Like, this seems like if Jaden Smith was more dangerous, you know?
Like, that's, that's what this seems like.
It's like, Jesus Christ,
fucking rich people, raise your kids better.
Holy shit.
The best part is he's playing a superhero,
which is supposed to be a role model for kids.
I know he's really, what they're really an actor,
but come on.
Like, what if the guy playing Superman was like
beating people up or housing children, like with guns?
Yeah.
I just like thinking about the producers for this upcoming flash.
Oh, yeah.
They must be pulling their hair out because they've already like,
turned down the money.
It's one of those things where it's like,
you've already given them.
so many warnings.
Yeah.
Their hope is that the scandals
remain a minimum, which is not
going to happen. No. It's
done. It's not recoverable at this point.
I think it's already too late. It's too late.
Yeah, so what do they do? Maybe after the first
couple beatings in Hawaii.
Maybe after the first couple assaults,
you could be like, okay, well,
you know.
But I think that Warner Brothers released a
statement saying that like after this film,
they're not involving Ezra Miller
anymore in their project.
Which makes sense.
Like you can't really recover from this.
This is just absolutely bizarre.
Like turned into a super villain overnight, basically.
I was thinking they could do the Kevin Spacey treatment and just like,
reshoot all of his scenes.
Yeah.
Try to save face.
Revive Christopher Plummer and swap him out.
Yeah, you should just like, CG over Ezra Miller's face throughout the entire movie
honestly just deep fake it to Nathan Fielder that's what my wish is
is you get Nathan Fielder's face on the Flash and then yeah it's just a better movie
honestly the flash was like the most annoying part about Justice League I saw the
Snyder cut not the original but like holy shit the flash was so fucking annoying that
just the cringe humor and awful acting so I'm not like attached to this actor or
character exactly so this is just like if i can burn it to the ground in my opinion like we don't
need this yeah the only thing i'd really liked him in before was we need to talk about kevin which was
like he was ironic now playing it yeah oh my god yeah i mean i don't know what's going to happen with
this flash movie yeah is it even releasable is anyone going to see this just like straight to
HBO Max, I guess.
I don't know.
That's it, but surely they have, they have sunk,
they would have sunk like hundreds of millions into it by now.
Right.
So I guess they have to, we sit.
They have to, but it just sucks.
The whole situation fucking sucks.
All these other people worked on the movie.
Like, I feel bad for them.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, just sandbagging the whole project, basically.
Yeah.
Very selfish and crazy.
I was just looking at, I was trying to look
the wiki to see just how much nepotism was there.
You can't really tell.
It's not like his parents were,
their parents were actors or, like, studio executives or anything.
But just the attitude and selfishness just reeks of, like, privilege, I guess.
So that's where I have to assume that.
I wonder how many more examples of this type of thing there'd be if, like,
social media was around earlier, like in the 70s and 80s.
It was easier to hide.
Yeah, they might have cut Cosby earlier.
Yeah, true.
You know?
Or Weinstein.
Oh, dear.
Yeah, right.
Yeah, what do you fucking do with this person?
Yeah, you can destroy your whole career overnight.
Well, it took a long time for Ezra also.
Let's be honest.
It wasn't exactly.
I know I said overnight, but this was like too many warnings, you know?
Yeah.
Jesus Christ.
Wow, it was so, I forgot about the April 2020 choking video.
Do you remember that?
I'm just looking right now.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, I think we talked about that, didn't we?
Yeah, I've seen, yeah, we did.
I completely forgot about that.
Someone showed me that and I was like, I was like trying to give the benefit of the doubt.
I was like, well, I don't know if they were like play fighting or like if it was for like a thing that they were like doing.
Like, I don't know what that was.
That's right.
And now it's just like all this shit, like, holy shit, you're a violent asshole.
Oh my god
I put that in a video somewhere
And like it completely went to the wayside
I'm like what the fuck
And people are like oh he's play fighting
I'm like maybe
Yeah yeah yeah
I mean there's no
Now there's no doubt that they're like
fucking shit up yeah
Yeah awful person
Alright I guess your career's over
Hopefully so fuck you
It is Hollywood
They'll make a comeback
They're apparently cast in
A film called
dolly land where they're playing
Salvador dolly
directed by Mary Heron
I don't know if that's going to be like a
yeah that will happen
oh director of American Psycho
surely they were in the DC universe
and the Harry Potter one
like they already were in the Harry Potter stuff
as you were saying Ralph but like
the director of American Psycho
is now directing an American Psycho
wow
yeah there's no way that's happening
yeah shout out to fucking
stupid fantastic beast series that were like 90% of their staff are canceled.
Yeah, true.
What a mess.
We got J.K. Rowling.
We got Johnny Depp, Ezra Miller.
Everyone's canceled.
What a franchise that is.
Yeah.
Let's keep it going.
Man.
There's some other funny news.
that I wanted to share.
I'm not sure if you guys were aware of this.
Seth Green,
he,
he,
he decided to make an NFT show.
So he took,
you know the board ape?
NFT?
So like that generic design
where they just like change the skins and sell them for like
$300,000 each or something for some reason.
He decided to,
because he,
He bought one of those NFTs.
He's like, I'm going to make a television show about this NFT.
And it's basically this weird, like, hybrid live action 2D thing.
And it looks like the shittiest thing in the world.
But is this separate from that other BoredApe show that's got like a pilot on YouTube?
There's a pilot on YouTube?
Oh, I don't know.
I don't know if that's the Seth Green thing.
Well, it has Seth Green's voice.
It's like a whole market of NFT.
Oh, okay.
I don't think Seth Green is in the one.
talking about.
The last time I checked up on this, this was like about a month ago.
Someone had, like, Seth Green had fallen for some weird fishing scam.
Like, someone sent a thing in his email.
It was like, oh, you got to log in to confirm your credentials.
And he did or something, even though it wasn't a real website.
And so he lost this NFT and, like, someone stole it and then sold it to someone else.
And Seth Green was begging on Twitter like, hey, he found out who owned it.
He's like, please, I need it back for my show because now he doesn't own it.
own the rights to like the character that in the show that they've already like
done animations for and uh yeah apparently it's back now is as of uh last month maybe they
gouged him for some some more money yeah i guess uh i guess he probably paid for it back i just
the whole nfts thing was crumbling i i mean it's yeah it's not uh the market's down that's
for sure. But it looks like he paid $260,000 to recover his NFT. So,
jeez, that sucks. Yeah, that's very funny. Like, what the fuck? Yeah, I can't feel that bad for him,
to be honest. It's not the best idea. I'm not even like super anti-NFT. I think that like the
proportionally the people's reactions to it are like kind of hysterical compared to like what it is.
But, you know, I'm not, I don't have an NFT.
I don't, like, participate in it.
It's just, like, it's very silly to me that he got caught in a fishing scam and lost the rights to a character for, like, a month.
Like, what the fuck?
That's so bizarre and unheard of it.
Basically, like, any show of some, like, trending thing like that is just...
It just...
It looks like a bad show.
Yeah, exactly.
It looks so awful.
Like, man, you just go work on robot chicken or something.
You've already got your...
stuff going on like
yeah
yeah and robot chicken isn't even
like good
is that still going by the way
I think so I haven't seen it since I was like 12
as an audience at least it's been going
this just seems like yeah like a cash grab
or NFT grab
season 11 as of April
22
wow it's still good it's not cancelled yet I guess
wow
it's like if you
had family guy with less context.
If it was just all flashback.
It's just, yeah, it's a cutaway guy's from family guy.
Yeah, it's just Seth Green playing with his toys.
Yeah.
The animation's good.
I'll give it that, but.
Yeah, I like the stop motion.
Yeah, I bet in the family go.
Anyway, Seth Green almost had to cancel his show.
And also, no one's going to watch this shit.
it looks so fucking bad
it's just yeah it's just content for YouTubers to make fun of
basically the board ape design is not even like a good design
it's like it's valuable because it's like ironic basically
yeah
yeah because it's been clowned on Twitter so much
it's like a statement on art about
like how it's all the same or something
I don't know
about about it like what you value
or like the price tag you can put on something
I don't know
I don't own one
and I don't plan on ever owning an NFD
so
yeah same
but it'll be worth millions bro
you just gotta buy it at 300,000
yeah I've had people message me saying and like yeah
people will pay you if you just just hold it
if you just buy it then there's all these schemes
where people like pay you money for holding it
it gets interest or something
all right dude
I'll leave you to it yeah
yeah
that's kind of like
suspicious to me.
Any like get rich quick
scheme.
Yeah and like
YouTubers have been like paddling them to like
has these little like pump and dump schemes.
It's pretty dodge.
Yeah, you gotta watch out for that stuff.
I mean after hearing that like you could just get an email
and lose the rights to your character like that or whatever.
That makes me not want to get an NFT.
Like I don't, I've never even heard as such a thing.
I mean, that is funny.
Fishing scams exist whether or not.
like crypto is a thing.
But to like lose the rights to your character?
I've never heard of that.
Oh yeah.
Like people will just steal your shit.
Like that's funny.
Yeah. It's hilarious.
Yeah.
Do we talk about the Jodorowski Dune?
NFT thing?
That's pretty funny.
Oh, I forgot about that.
But there's those.
Oh yeah.
I can't remember if we talked about it on the cast.
But there's some NFT bros like pulled their money together and thought they
bought the rights to Dune.
Yeah.
The Jodorowski one and we're like, yeah, we're going.
gonna we're gonna put it out there the true dune when actually it turned out they didn't have
the rights at all it was just the rights to that specific nfti yeah yeah we're we're gonna create a
series like you don't understand how they like crowdfunded a bunch of money and presumably
probably just kept it i don't know oh yeah we're gonna do with that after that what else can
you do with it yeah yeah um
We all saw a Tom Cruise film.
Tom Cruise.
We did it finally.
Hell Zeno.
Hail Zeno.
You know what?
Yeah.
I don't know if, you know, the Scientologists are the ones that overturned Roe v. Wade, so, you know.
That's true.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You give and take some pros and cons.
But, yeah.
Yeah.
They just keep people.
in their cult and if you try to leave they keep you there people have to escape in the middle
of the night no big deal yeah you know despite that whole Scientology thing I'm fine with Tom
Cruz he's a good that's a good movie star man yeah I mean just like you're talking about the quality
of his movies yeah yeah like he's usually in good stuff that's the weird thing and he's got like
this charisma that's what's so interesting about Tom Cruise and dedication you know learns to
fly helicopters planes he'll be like proper
commits. And, you know, he's like, he is a true movie star. He's like one of the last
great movie stars. Like, my, my, uh, someone I know works in a movie theater and like people
buying the tickets for this movie. They're just like one ticket for Tom Cruise. Like, you
don't even say the name of the movies. Tom Cruise. It's like old people. But, you know,
that's, it's, it's, he, he is the movie. Like, I can't even imagine Top Gun without Tom Cruise, you know.
Oh, yeah. Exactly. I don't think it would work. He makes the whole movie.
Yeah, he has to be though.
He's a huge part of it.
What was his last flop?
Yeah, what was his last flop?
I can't even think.
The mummy?
The mummy.
He's had flops, but we know, he's had...
Of course.
How do you do that?
He's had a range of, like, night and day.
Like, he's in movies I don't like.
The stuff he does with this director, though, I like.
He's also, he's like, work with Kubrick.
He's like, yeah.
He's in Magnolia.
He's worked with Spielberg, Kubrick, Paul Thomas Anderson.
Yeah, he's worked with great directors.
Yeah, he's got, like, a nice range.
to his kind of look.
I mean...
Oh, I love his performance in Tropic Thunder.
Yeah, he's like, he's been in good parts.
He's a interesting guy, to say the least.
And yeah, I think I like him more than I don't.
The mummy is awful, but...
I don't know.
I kind of loved...
I love this movie, kind of.
He strikes me as an interesting character,
although I don't know what he's like in real life.
But his performances are great,
and he's constantly...
seems like he's constantly trying to
prove himself, you know,
no matter how old he gets, he's always, like,
still giving it as all, which is very
respectable, like, very admirable.
Yeah, he has
definitely more hits than flops.
Looking at his...
Yeah, especially, like, in the action
genre, some of the best action movies
the last, like, 20 years, he's been in the forefront of...
Minority Report.
Yeah.
Mission Impossible.
Oh, God.
The next Mission Impossible is going to be a part
one in part two.
Yeah.
Hunger games or whatever.
Yeah.
But surely it's got to be like his last one.
You can't keep running that fast forever, man.
You can't do it.
How old is he?
Must be approaching 70.
Steroids.
Yeah.
CGI.
I think they do CG to make them look younger too.
Not like a lot, but some digital de-aging.
I mean, he still does all of his stunts.
59 years old.
He's almost 60.
Man.
Yeah.
He looks good.
Yeah, he does.
Did you see the, uh, the, uh, like, pre-show, like clip?
Did they play that in your theater?
Where he's like, I'm glad I made this movie.
I'm a, the bad.
Oh, no, I didn't play it, mine.
Okay, because I played that.
He looked a lot older in that than he did in the movie.
I think they actually filmed this movie, like, a lot of it in, like,
2019 or something.
I think they actually filmed this a few years ago.
This movie got delayed a lot.
There's a dispute over the rights.
for this right now. They're being sued by
the original
publisher for the
Top Gun story, like the estate
of the original author, because
the rights had expired before
the film came out and the studio
is arguing, no, we had finished
filming before the rights expired.
And that's going to be really
interesting in court, because I don't know if it
works that way, but I like
the movie. I wonder too.
Yeah, and also, like, it got pushed back
a lot because of COVID. And I feel like
Tom Cruise wanted this to come out in the theater
They really pushed for that
And I think that was a good call
I think it's a theater movie
It's very epic and scale
And it's I mean it made a shit ton of money
It just passed like a billion at the box office
Yeah it made it's one of Tom Cruise's
Yeah, it was definitely a good call to like
Wait and release it in theaters
Even if there's a lawsuit
They can probably just write the guy
I fucking check honestly
They have the money to do that
Yeah highest grossing of all time for Tom Cruise
Mm-hmm
Really? That's crazy.
Like usually billion-dollar movies are like superhero stuff.
But I was just expecting it to be another like cash grab, you know?
I mean, it kind of is, but it was still good.
No, but you know for the pile where it's just like, yeah, take the property you know
and just shit out a, we're not going to talk about Jurassic World this episode,
but you know, something more akin to that where it's like just this zombie,
this walking zombie that's just miserable.
Whereas like a lot of effort, like this, this is.
I'm like, it's so much about it in the original.
I don't know if we want to talk about the original first.
Yeah, sure.
Have you seen it?
I'd never seen it until recently.
And I had to try twice because I actually fell asleep the first time.
I was so bored.
I only got through it.
There's like no conflict.
Yeah, I only got through it because I like watched the, yeah, exactly.
I watched the like director's commentary.
Nice.
Which is like way more interesting to me.
Yeah.
But even then I think I still fell asleep.
for like 20 minutes.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
And it was like one of those films that already kind of, we had that question, I think,
last episode about like movies you already kind of know before even watching just
through like pop culture.
It's one of those osmosis movies where it's like, wow.
It's an iconic film.
Yeah.
You know the song and you know that Goose dies.
I guess spoilers for Top Gun original.
You know, the volleyball scene.
Yeah, the volleyball scene and just the general kind of gayness.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, the gay undertones of it, which makes.
it interesting like it's definitely something memorable about that film it's the only
entertaining part is just when it's weirdly gay yeah because it's kind of funny but the
rest of it's so boring but it's so weird because you know it's a military movie it's a very like
man's man military movie thinking that that kind of audience and yeah that it has like these kind
of gay undertones makes it kind of funny and also unique like I do like that about the
original one I heard that they were trying to like get women in the audience too so they
They were like, well, do you volleyball.
They'll be shirtless.
And they'll kiss each other.
Yeah.
It's not too.
Yeah.
It's like, yeah, the women want to see like Tom Cruise without his shirt on, like at the time.
Maybe not now.
But I don't think he took a shirt off in this one.
They had volleyball.
I don't think so.
Oh, wait, you mean the new one?
Yeah, but did Tom Cruise?
They did do the volleyball.
In the new one.
Yeah, they did the football in this movie.
He was watching very intently.
Mm-hmm.
I'm just teaching them how to be a team
What do you do? You can't play games
Team building
This one
It was kind of funny
I'd say like that first top gun has like a
It's a really iconic like soundtrack
And they ruin it by spamming the music
In the original one?
Yeah they play there's three songs that they play like ten times
Hey I don't mind it
It's good songs
Yeah it's hilarious
Like Tony Scott keeps cool
and it um it's really rock and roll
they're saying it's like five from it like three times
yeah it's just so strange and there's not much action in the original top gun
as well like it's it's a lot of dialogue and it's a lot of like the love
a lot of spanking plot it's um it's definitely a classic for some reason yeah
the soundtrack is what got oscar yeah it's the soundtrack it's the soundtrack it's the soundtrack
and it's Tom Cruise.
It's that that's what makes it.
It makes it hard to respect the film in that sense because the soundtrack works independently
of the film.
The film makes the soundtrack worse because of how they spam it.
The soundtrack's great outside of the film.
So, yeah, I hate that first movie.
It's really bad.
I can't get it.
I don't remember who said this, but I agree with this quote that the new Top Gun
movie is like what people thought the original was.
Yeah, that's what it feels like.
It's like taking that general story and just making it work, making it really exciting.
Yeah, it's fun action.
Yeah, making it much more exciting, yeah.
Stakes.
Throwing in more action.
Characters.
Yeah, stakes, right.
Like, these things help the movie.
Yeah, they make it much more intense.
Like, some of my favorite parts of this film, Top Gun Maverick, are the flying scenes and the plane scenes.
It's some of the best I've ever seen.
in a film. They're amazing. They're the sound and like just the way it shot. It is exhilarating. It's
really fucking awesome this movie. When it works, it really works, I feel. And I also really liked
how they handled, you know, Val Kilmer as Iceman. I thought all that was really tasteful.
It was, I'm like, man, this is tasty, tasteful. It was, it was like really emotional. And it worked.
Yeah, it was fan service, but it worked. It worked like it did in Spider-Man.
Um, no way home.
Yeah.
It, you know, it had, it worked.
It had an impact, I feel.
And, um, if you had a connection to Iceman in that first movie, you would, yeah.
It was a character moment.
You would, it would work for you, I feel.
Yeah.
And even the stuff with Miles Teller and as Goose's son, like that worked for me too.
That was a huge part of the movie.
Yeah, that's a way more interesting angle than whatever happens in the first movie.
Yeah, the guilt of that loss and getting over that.
And yeah, it was a good conflict, I felt.
There was a lot going on in the movie that made it.
more interesting and yeah and those action scenes man they were they were great they really like
tied the whole thing together super awesome blockbuster i just liked the structure
where it's like very early on they established basically the the mission impossible mission that
they've got to achieve and then prepare for for the entire movie so there's just always this
building tension in the background like how on earth are they going to actually achieve this
so it really adds like stakes to it as you're saying miracle number two yeah exactly
So by the time you get there and even, it doesn't, well, we're not talking spoilers, but just the way it unfolds is like really exciting and unpredictable.
Yeah, it is exciting.
And I love how they made Tom Cruise like this or the Maverick character like the ultimate pilot.
Like he's basically the best pilot ever like almost to an unrealistic degree.
But that way that makes it really fun to watch and him like instructing all these kids and doing these crazy maneuvers.
It is fun to watch.
And Tom Cruise is actually in the plane and he has a pilot license.
It's not him flying the fighter pilots.
It's not him flying the fighter planes because that's much more difficult than flying a normal plane.
But he has a pilot license and that's him in the fighter planes.
It looks great.
It looks really cool.
Yeah, I like how it opens on the whole like addressing the automation of like pilots with the guy coming in trying to get him to stop the flight
because they've got the new model that's like a drone that can fly way better than a human or whatever.
and just adding that angle to addressing that like, yeah, if you're making a sequel this many years after the original, you've kind of got to address that in some way.
And they kind of justify the use for like the Top Gun squad or whatever.
Him and Iceman are like dinosaurs now.
They're irrelevant.
Yes.
It's cool to see them like the underdog come back and do all these cool maneuvers and whatever.
And yeah, just like the younger generation of pilots kind of looking up to him and all that was great.
rate and they're dynamic too.
Yeah, if I was rating it just based on the action scenes, it would be near perfect, you know?
There's a lot in between.
Then there's this other stuff.
There's the dialogue to get from each action scene to another.
And it's not like, oh, I, you know, the story is purposeless and just so awful or anything.
It's just, there's nothing about the filmmaking or style or anything during those scenes that are particularly,
exciting. There's a lot of flashbacks. That's kind of annoying, like repeated flashbacks that were shown
already, you know, like, okay, I get it. Yeah, you are waiting for those action scenes or the
flying scenes, the training scenes. That's what the heart of it is. Yeah, it's their bathroom
break scenes, unironically. They're there to go to the bathroom. This is fine. Yeah. It's just not what you
see the movie. The Jennifer Connolly character, like that stuff wasn't as resident, perhaps. Like, it was
okay. That stuff was more of filler. Yeah. The, you know, the Meg Ryan character in the
original is nothing much to her either. It's just like the love interest. It didn't bring her back
for this movie. Yeah. It's the weirdest love plot. That sex scene was so bad in the first
movie. Take my breath away. Good song.
Yeah.
awful.
Yeah, there's,
man,
I don't, this,
this might not bother either of you,
but the song that they keep playing
is like way too similar to
the song from Sunshine.
That,
a Doe in D minor from Sunshine.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Literally the same chord progression,
literally the same tempo.
Like, it's just,
yeah, it's way too similar
and so I'm just like, oh shit,
I'm thinking of another movie.
Yeah, it was at the beginning
it was like, a few
different points in the movie, it was just kind of like,
Ech.
In Maverick?
Yeah.
Hans Zimmer did the music, I think.
Yeah, with like two other people.
Like Lady Gaga and some of them.
Yeah, I like the music, okay.
Yeah, the Lady Gaga song
I didn't really care much for at the end.
That felt out of place to me.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
when I saw that in the opening credits.
Oh, God.
That was a little, like, cringy.
They're going to get an Oscar on.
It's for Best Original Song, Oscar.
Yeah.
Yikes.
I hate that category.
But, yeah, that was the thing, though.
Like, for it to be a true sequel, it needed a bit of campiness, you know?
It needed, like, it couldn't completely abandon the tone entirely from the original.
So it's like a nice balance.
It takes itself, like, a bit more seriously that there are actual stakes, but there's still, like, corniness in there.
Mm-hmm.
It still feels like a blockbuster, very Hollywood.
Yeah.
Yeah, it's not like realistic, I would say.
The flight scenes were, like the action, like that felt realistic, at least while you were in it.
Yeah.
Do not see this movie if you get motion sickness.
It's kind of like a roller coaster.
It's great.
I love it.
I enjoy it a lot.
But I would not take my mom to see this film.
She would have to leave.
Really? She couldn't handle that?
No, she wouldn't be...
She would not be able to handle that 100%.
She would not.
It's a good dad movie.
Yeah, my dad liked it.
Yeah, it's very dad friendly.
Yeah, it's a dad movie.
It's a good dad movie.
It's better dad movie than like, green book.
Yeah.
This is a cool dad movie.
It is a cool dad movie.
Not a lame dad movie.
Yeah.
You want to be a cool dad?
Watch Top Guns.
Yeah, my dad's like Tom Cruise.
He can fly planes and he's cool.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's kind of like, that's kind of the whole appeal of it.
Yeah.
And one of the things I was kind of fearful of was how, like, far they were going to push the kind of patriot angle.
Like, there's lots of American flags in the background.
It's all like a kind of an advert for joining the Navy or whatever.
And it's really not my kind of style or sort of thing.
But the way they, like, personify, the village.
at the movie and whatnot, but like never showing, like, who they really are and, like, the enemy
pilots, like, they just keep their helmets on. It's Russia. It keeps it way more character-focused.
Exactly. I like that about the movie. They never directly state it. It's the whole country is
behind that helmet. But it's more just about the mission, you know? Yeah, they never say who the enemy is,
and I don't think in the first one either. I think it's, it's Russia or China. Yeah, it could be, like,
North Korea or something. Mm-hmm, could be North Korea. Yeah, they don't, that's interesting, yeah.
Yeah, you never need to know who the enemy is when you fight them.
You just, you know, sign a contract.
Well, as far as the pilots, the pilots in the mission, they don't need to know that information.
They don't need to know it.
All that matters to them is, they just call them the enemy or the target, which is, I think that's a good choice in the movie.
You don't want it to feel like, I think it was called Act of Valor or something.
Yeah, that would be sucks, balls.
Yeah.
It's just like a cool of duty.
That's just that bad fucking movie though
Like forget about the patriotism
That movie's like terrible acting
It's so boring and the action sucks
And yeah this is much more creative
When you make any film that's even like adjacent
To the military
You have to decide whether or not
You're gonna be pushing towards like
Propaganda or like anti-war criticism basically
It's really difficult not to feel like
Either of those things when you're including like
military things in your film
You have to lean into one or the other right
I mean, yeah, it's really difficult to be apolitical on that, like, even if you're not trying to be, like, the movie might turn out to seem that way.
Mm-hmm.
Well, yeah, they were, like, bragging in the original one's commentary track about, like, how it got loads of people to join the Navy and whatnot.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Like, Simpsons episode, even at the urge for this.
That's a huge part of the first one.
It knew, yeah.
Lots of people joined the Navy after that film.
Yeah.
And this would probably, I don't know if it would boost it as much, but I bet some people joined the army because of this film.
I wouldn't be, you know, it doesn't distract.
That's what I was really pleased about, like, is just, it just works as a really solid action movie.
What if more Russians joined the military after seeing the film?
I think it's about as, like, apolitical as it could get, considering it's about, like, fighter pilots in the U.S. Army.
And that's how the first one is, too.
It's not focused on, like, action or anything.
more about like those characters and they're like they're they're very personal you know stuff they're
going through like loss and their relationships and so on not really though the war or um you know
who the enemy is that's not really what these characters like these characters aren't really
concerned about that or they don't even know who they're fighting it's just you know it's just the
enemy they're not about to leak any documents yeah they don't really they're just soldiers right
like even Maverick he didn't really have any interest in like kind of you know rising in the ranks
in like the military he stayed the captain because because it works for the story but also because
he's not really concerned about that shit he just wants to fly planes
zoom zoom it's like yeah he just wants to go fast and then there's something there's something
admirable about that it's a movie that's simultaneously for 60 year olds and 6 year olds
Yeah?
Yeah.
It's a good movie.
It appeals to like everybody.
Everyone loves planes.
It's a boy movie.
All right.
No girls allowed.
This is boy time.
Girls can like this movie.
No.
There's the football scene with all the shirtless guys in this one.
And there's a girl pilot.
They get a scene.
Yeah.
That's funny.
No, it's good.
Yeah, I give it a very high six.
If just like, you know, if the.
dialogue and
if there weren't bathroom scenes
you know if there weren't scenes where they were
just completely dispose it if the full
experience of the movie was like great
then I would give it a great rating but
you know as with many other Tom Cruise films
that I get shit on for
lots of great action and then just the in between
scenes are like you could throw them out of the movie
and edit them out and it would just be a better movie
sort of thing
so
So do you feel similarly about like the, it reminds me of our conversation on Mission Impossible Fallout?
I like this better.
I gave that one a five.
I give that one like down the middle.
This movie is like a very high.
It could change to a seven.
I could change my rating to a seven for this film.
It's good.
I like how they used music more in this film.
You know, they included like won't get fooled again, even though that wasn't in the original,
but it's like a very effective like kind of nostalgic song for the time period.
That was used really well.
Yeah.
Yeah, very respectful.
Fan service done well, you know, not, doesn't feel like,
it doesn't feel like it relies on the fan service.
It's just providing it in a very satisfying way.
And the actions just...
It's usually in service of character too.
Great buildup, tons of action, very well directed action.
Yeah, I mean, it's a sequel to talk on like,
you want to see the characters again and you want to see like certain things.
Yeah, can't complain too much about it.
Yeah, I agree.
you like I just feel like not so much bathroom scenes like I feel like the scenes with ice man
were good and there were scenes in there that I'm like this is this is like a good scene and that
is an action yeah and the miles teller like conflict I like that yeah I did too I thought he was
really good it's just like an overall kind of simplicity to the characters so like just a little
bit cartoony with like everyone it's like a huge squad of characters they're trying to establish
and they've all got to have their extreme personality traits as the cocky one
there's kind of the nerdy guy.
They've got all those kind of like,
but it works for what they're trying to accomplish
with the action like builder.
Yeah, I like the hangman character
and how it like conflicted with Rooster.
It was kind of like Iceman and Maverick in the original.
I guess that's what they were going for.
But yeah, those scenes were good.
And how at the end is like,
bagman comes in and saves him or hangman.
He comes in and saves him at the end.
Like, it was a good subversion.
Like, oh, I didn't see that coming.
you see yeah there's some pretty good subversion like they they managed to maintain that tension without like
a single main character dying like yeah that's what i was waiting for i thought they were gonna
they were gonna they were gonna do that maybe like do a heroic tom cruise sacrifice to send off top gun
or something but they didn't they mean they they they dodged that kind of that kind of corniness
yeah well they kind of have that but then like miles teller saves him and the movie kind of
keeps going for like a half hour like i thought it was over once they did the mission but then
the movie kind of keeps going for like a half hour. They find like the F-14 and the hangar there
and there's like another dog fight. But it was like at first I'm like this movie could
end it already. But then I don't know. Once it got into like that action and like that stuff
toward the end, I'm like, oh, this is still going and it's working. Sneaking into the base. Yeah,
I really like that. It delivered. It delivered. I'm glad that they had a really long like climax.
Yeah. I thought it worked really well. Yeah. Pretty kick-ass block.
Blockbuster, I don't have much else to say aside from that.
Like, I feel like for a top gun sequel, it's basically everything it needed to be.
Like, it's pretty well done.
Yeah.
And I feel like you're listening to this and you haven't seen the original.
Don't do it.
You couldn't enjoy this without even seeing it.
Don't get tricked.
It works fine.
Won't get full of again.
I like the first one.
Yeah, this is probably a better film.
And those action scenes are really fucking great.
And yeah, it's a great blockbuster.
I guess I'll just give a rating
I would give it an 8 out of 10
Nice
Yeah I think I could be there with you
Maybe on a second watch
But for now it's kind of a high 7 for me
Really surprised by how good it was
Of those action scenes
Feel like a dad already
I'm a dad now
All right
So I was considering saving this movie news
But fuck it
Let's talk about it
Um
Joker 2
Fully I do
Oh yeah we forgot to mention that
At the beginning
Shit
Joker 2 starring Lady Gaga
and it's going to be a musical
So Todd Phillips directed musical
Well it's rumor
It's not confirmed
That it's Lady Gaga
It's it
Apparently they're
She's going to be Harley Quinn
They were
They're in talks
To cast her
But like it's
A lot of it is rumored
So it could be
They're in talks with Lady Gaga
supposedly
But we don't know if it's
For Harley Quinn
It's probably for Harley Quinn
that's a yeah I'd imagine so
that's a fucking terrible idea
oh
make a sequel to Joker
that's a musical
see that was I'm kind of on the inverse
where it's like I was anti making a sequel to begin with
to joke could but I don't know something about this is like weirdly
intriguing to me if they're gonna make a sequel
I'm just kind of curious how they and make it a musical too
because there's the kind of musical element in the in the 2019 movie
which was one of the more interesting things to me,
like his weird dancing and it's like imagining the,
his imagination or whatnot.
It could also be incredibly over exaggerated because this is coming from,
this is rumors coming from like sources talking to the Hollywood reporter, right?
So it could be maybe Harley Quinn sings in the movie
and that it's not like a full musical,
but there's some scenes where she's singing, right?
We don't know,
we don't know to what extent this is accurate.
We just, they're like bits and pieces of, of a story here, but we don't really know.
What we do know is that the new title is, Joker, Folly and De.
Which is the funniest shit in the world.
Yeah, I'm really, like, Holly Quinn's like a tough character to translate to the big screen.
I'm super curious how they're going to approach that, like, the whole, like, Mr. Jay.
stuff in the tone of like a Joker thing
I don't know what they're gonna do
You know
We're so used to Harley Quinn being the most annoying thing in the world now
That maybe if they tone it down a little it'll just work
I didn't mind her in the James Gunn Suicides Squad
But that's such a cartoony movie
Yeah
It's like the inverse tone of Joker so
I still hated her
But didn't ruin the movie
Yeah, even in that movie, she's annoying.
Yeah, she's just kind of an annoying character.
I don't like Harley Quinn.
She doesn't make sense as a character.
It just makes no sense.
What if it's like a more grounded version?
What if they, because they took the Joker character, and you can even argue with like
Nolan's Batman films, like a lot of the characters in that are like much more
toned down versions of what we see in the comic books and what we're used to seeing.
What if they do that with Harley Quinn's character?
And she's just like a...
That's Christopher Nolan?
No, I know, but like,
and this is the director of Hangover.
He's also the director of the first Joker movie,
and the first Joker was a very character-driven film.
You know, it had its issues.
I, you know, I don't think it's amazing,
but it is, like, kind of character.
I could see them doing something like that,
where instead of Harley Quinn being, like,
this wacky sort of, like,
hey, Mr. Jay, blah, blah, blah, baby character.
They could just tone her down a little.
Like, that, I see that,
as a possibility.
I wonder what Martin Scorsese movie
they're going to rip off this time
since they already did King of Comedy
and a taxi driver.
They can go for maybe after hours
or I don't know.
Something like that.
Age of Innocence, gangs in New York.
The whole, like, Holly Quinn, like, story
from the, um, that original animated series
is kind of like a cool...
Silence.
It's kind of silly, but...
I don't know, like, I feel like they...
That's, like, an interesting...
angle to me, like having Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga in an institution and he's like slowly
making a nurse like go insane. I don't know, that's, that could be interesting. Is that the plot?
It sounds interesting. I'm going to watch it, but is it going to be good? I don't know.
Yeah, that's what, Harley Quinn's like a nurse to the joke or a psychologist, the Joker and he
like makes it go insane basically. So this is the aviator. Yeah, it's going to be like the aviator. Yeah, it's
gonna be like the aviator. Okay.
Yeah, we'll see. And Hugo.
No, that would be good.
Hmm.
Make it like Wolf of Wall Street. Yeah, the, I think that the title is one of the funniest things
in the world.
Is it like French? What the fuck is that?
It looks French. I might have butchered the pronunciation.
But let's see. Hollywood Reporter says, the title is referencing a medical term for an
identical or similar mental disorder that affects two or
more individuals, usually members of the same family.
Folli and du.
But what's funny, like, because the whole title or the subtitle part of it is French.
So now I'm, now it's not Joker.
I'm just going to pronounce it, Joaquin.
Just like this obnoxious.
Have you seen Joquere?
Kind of like the only thing that worked about me for the original Joker was like
some of the more violent scenes, like the shooting in the subway or whatever,
or like him kind of turning to become evil.
I'm like, oh, that's kind of interesting there.
But I don't feel like they're going to do that in this film.
I like a lot of stuff it tried to do.
Well, yeah, there's some good ideas in there.
It's just, it's like what you said about Top Gun Maverg.
It's like, there's like bathroom scenes.
And there's just scenes that are like, oh.
The over-explained flashback and Joker was annoying.
Yeah, I didn't like that.
The whole, his neighbor being of fantasy or whatever.
That was so stupid.
Yeah.
And how they over-explained it was made it more stupid.
Mm-hmm.
Right, they didn't even need to explain it.
That could have been up to interpretation.
Yeah, isn't I?
Right, exactly.
Yeah, I'm like, here's the thing.
No matter what it is, it's going to be a meme.
And that's why I'm excited.
Right.
No matter what it is, it's going to be funny.
It's going to be big meme times for Joker, right?
Yeah.
Right.
So.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, it was huge before the first Joker came out.
Like, Joker's like a meme character now.
Joker best picture Oscars.
That was the best Oscars.
And then Parasite won.
Yeah.
Damn.
It's very, at least Warner Brothers has got something happening that's positive in the DC universe.
At least they're doing something that seems like even remotely promising maybe.
Fucking.
Yeah.
Jesus Christ.
They can't do anything with the Flash anymore.
And Aquaman too.
I know, Amber Heard's like,
Yeah.
It's not as bad.
It's got to get a new girlfriend.
The lead, but.
You just edit her out, I'm sure.
I'd imagine, like, Warner Brothers at this point,
because they also own the rights to the Fantastic Beast movie.
So, like, three canceled from that.
Amber Heard from Aquaman, too.
Ezra Miller from the Flash.
At this point, all of their casting process
has to involve some sort of rigorous background check.
You have to hand over every social media post you've ever made.
And you have to have, like, letters of recommendation from all of your family members and ex-girlfriends saying that you don't abuse people.
Like, what is word of brother going to do now?
Like, everybody they're working with is getting canceled.
Disney doesn't have this problem right now, I think.
Right?
That's, like, not really happening with Disney.
I'm surprised they don't have, like, social media stuff in their contracts.
Like, while you're working under us, you can't tweet or post anything.
I mean, it happened with Gina Carano.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's right with her.
She was tweeting a stupid shit, like, yeah.
And like Ezra Miller, she had like a billion warnings.
Like, hey, can you tone it down?
And then she was like, oh, sure, by the way, being a Christian in America is like being a Jew and Nazi Germany.
Like, okay.
Oh, God.
Yeah.
Jesus Christ.
It's so embarrassing.
Social media, man.
It's an mistake.
Yeah.
See, that's funny.
It's funny.
Joker 2 is going to be a meme.
Walking Phoenix is going to get canceled for drinking cow milk once or something.
And then...
Right.
Yeah.
That's the way it is.
I'm excited.
Me too.
It's going to be funny.
I'm definitely going to...
Yeah.
Yeah, there's no way they weren't going to make a sequel.
It made too much money.
It was too much of like a cultural thing.
Yeah.
When the news came...
came out like, Joker 2 has been greenlit.
I'm like, it hasn't been before.
It wasn't already?
But that kind of, didn't the movie have some artistic integrity?
Like, it didn't need a sequel.
It's just kind of its own standalone film.
It would be like making like one fool over the cuckoo's nest two or something.
No, but a billion.
Not that, yeah.
There's a couple of great movies with sequels.
You know what we need, we need no country for old men to.
Yeah, that's what I mean.
We need another, Anton Sugar.
He needs to be like Freddie Kruger.
There have been, obviously, the Godfather part two, the Godfather Part two is great.
There's good sequels.
And I just mean, like, usually sequels are kind of a cash grab.
Yeah, like reacting to how well it does or doesn't do,
as opposed to like having some kind of story planned out.
That's business.
Mm-hmm.
It's movies.
Yeah, that's the business of film.
So we'll see how it turns out.
All right.
I can't wait.
Speaking of movies, we saw.
The fifth element.
Bad movies?
No.
Are we doing the recommendation?
Is it time?
It is time.
Okay.
So, yeah, it was my pick, the fifth element.
Luke Besant, speaking of French.
Yeah.
Yeah, his, I guess his sci-fi, depending on who you ask,
masterpiece from 1997.
It's, uh, I was really surprised there, how long.
like the Valerian prequel had like existed for already because I'd never seen this movie.
Is this a Valerian prequel?
No, I'm just, I'm just joking.
It's just so simple.
Yeah, exactly.
Yeah.
Yeah, I guess that is just, yeah, now that you mentioned it,
Valerian is just him trying to recapture the magic.
It's like, hey guys.
That's funny, yeah.
And it gets complicated because there's a bunch of imagery from, what's his name,
Jean-Claude Meziers,
apologies for the pronunciation,
who did the art and created Valerian
and was like a huge inspiration for the fifth element,
and then he went on to direct Valerian, the movie,
and also like all the crossovers of like Star Wars and whatnot,
because George Lucas was also a fan of this kind of stuff.
So it's all like all this sci-fi bleed over whatnot.
And the fifth element is another one of these kind of osmosis movies
where it's just kind of been in nerddom, like pop culture for ages.
And I'd somehow avoided it.
I don't know.
There's something about it, like, wasn't that appealing to me.
But I recommended it.
And the story's kind of a surprisingly basic kind of McGuffin movie with like a cab driver in the future.
He's got to help the perfect human save the world, basically, from a big world.
threat and um man i because he got horny because yeah well it's i was reading i was reading
about it after i finished watching it and i saw that luke bason had like he'd conceived this
idea and this story when he was like 14 years old and i was like oh okay i kind of explain some
things to me it's quite it's like self-insert like yeah like the yeah bruce willis lady in the
water kind of like emmlight shop yeah i usually hate movies like that that are like i came up with
this idea when I was 13 and I've always wanted, you know, like, um, like Zach Snyder.
I think, I think that's what sucker punch was. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. I don't think it's quite like
sucker punch too. I was trying to put myself into the shoes of someone watching this in 97.
Production wise, there were some things I liked about it. Like some of the character designs are cool,
but then inverse to that, there's loads I didn't like either. I was just, I was waiting for
something interesting to happen. No. By like the hour point.
I was kind of like, what, like, what is?
It's so similar to Valerian.
It's like all these kind of like weird concepts like thrown around and all these like aliens and costumes and whatnot and like a, but none of it like meshes together in a way that gets me involved.
It's a tonal thing.
Like it's kind of a comedy.
It's like trying to be funny.
But then also ends on like it's trying to be an emotional.
Yeah, we're saying we're saving the world through love.
type thing and this is supposed to be states almost it felt uh it felt very terry gilliam
ask it reminded me of brazil or something really in the tone yeah just like the goofy
sci-fi the kind of Brazil's much better obviously but it felt like it was trying to go for
like a like a paul verhoven type thing maybe that too but i much prefer those kind of movies
your robocops, your...
Yeah.
Total recalls or whatnot.
I feel like that's way more consistent.
The fifth element is very try-hard, very, very cringe, very soy, is that a word?
We can call it a soy movie.
It's a movie for people...
It's a soy movie.
It's a movie for people that enjoy going to Comic-Con.
Not who just attend, it's for people who enjoy it.
Yeah, it's the movies like being in a Comic-Con.
convention. I don't know. I feel like I've been gaslit for like 20 fucking years about like this being a good
movie and people say like, oh, it's great. If you didn't look up like any of the reviews for this,
any of the critical reviews, you'd think that this is like a well-received movie. No, it's not. It's just
there's a bunch of like redditors that really like it. I don't know. There's just really
loud fans that gaslit everybody into thinking that this is like a well-received movie.
That's what happens sometimes. It's a cult movie. I get why a certain crowd.
would like everybody calm down and being facetious anyway also no I read a hilarious um bit of trivia
saying that Gary Oldman is such a good friend of Luke Bisson they took part without reading
the script doing this movie to repay Bisson for partly financing Oldman's movie nil by mouth
asked in a 2014 interview if he liked the movie Obin stated oh no I can't bear it
scary like it all starts with that poster for me as well
like the floating head thing.
Yeah.
It's just so, like, so bizarre.
Like, Gary Oldman doing this, he's like the villain of the movie.
He never interacts with Bruce Willis, who's, like, the lead character, like, a single time.
And, like, he's doing this, this, like, Texan thing with this, like, this, like, milk bottle on his head that's, like, pushing his hair down.
Yeah, that's, that's really, that's an annoying design.
And it sucks because, like, the first, I don't know, 10 minutes of the movie, there's,
some cool design stuff going on when it's like in a bit more seriously toned yeah intro not a bad
scene yeah no that i was into it for that opening egypt scene yeah it's kind of a fun like with
setting up the the main conflict or whatever they're like in egypt and it's set in like it's like a
period piece in like 1914 or something yeah and those aliens come down and they're like a fun
design these like practical models yeah with the like key and whatnot that that was like a fun
opening but then when it goes to the future it like totally shifts and just starts getting really weird
and in a way that i don't find endearing it's like one of the most cringe movies ever because like
the humor that you're supposed to get out of this movie is milo jovovich acting like a baby and then
chris tucker acting like a little girl like that's the humor is like he's oh it did a high-pitched
scream i'm like wow this is humor from what i was like 12 that's so cool too bad i'm an adult
Now I can't appreciate it, but...
Big bad a boom.
Yeah, it's...
I didn't really find any of it intentionally funny.
No.
I was, yeah, I was more kind of, like, cringing.
That's why they had to play the staccato string instruments
so that you knew as an audience member that the scenes were funny.
I hate the soundtrack in this movie.
It's so garbage.
Oh, it's very odd.
This is silly music.
It's fucking, it's baby core.
I can't.
But it's like, yeah, it's so similar to Valerian
because Valerian does, like,
all this same stuff.
It's like these,
it's clearly what he wanted to do
is these like CG aliens
like running around doing all like weird noises.
Yeah.
Yeah, I just don't find it endearing or funny.
And it's very clearly trying to be funny.
No, it's trying very hard.
Cartoonish and bright and colorful.
But definitely.
I'm baby.
It's missing something.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
So a baby falls into his cab
and then he wants to fuck it
and goes on an adventure.
That's the whole movie.
movie.
Yeah.
This is his first science fiction forte, I believe, Luke Besson, right?
I believe so, right?
What else is done Lucy?
He's done Lucy for Larry.
Yeah.
Another, so he's done a few.
Another baby movie.
Arthur and the, that's, I guess that's not really science fiction.
Oh, yeah, he did do those.
Yeah, that, uh, author and the, yeah.
Yeah, I kept thinking that like, this would probably work better if it was like a
weird like baby kids cartoon thing maybe turn down some of the sexual stuff and then you'd just be
like a baby kids movie yeah there's like a lot of like sexual stuff like bill ojolovich's this
outfit or whatever yeah Bruce Willis kissing her when she's like passed out why is why he got to be
so rapy why is the character so rapey in well we don't need the director of this movie yeah
yeah why is he why does he make so many baby fucking stories
yeah well yeah yeah because i i guess the success of leon probably helped him move on to this
well i was gonna say like i just kept thinking of like other movies while watching it like leon which
she also directed i'm like yeah that's a much better film and like you know science fiction films like
brazil or other terry gilliam like i just kept thinking of other movies that i enjoyed more than
this even a i we were talking about we talked about a i before i enjoyed a i much more than this i thought
That was more unique, interesting.
It's trying to do like a style-less thing.
Like, by the end, it's like the whimsical group, like, on the mission to save the world.
Except, like, the ultimate threat is like this, this moon thing that's, like, can talk and communicate with Gary Oldman.
And that is just not, not that compelling of a major threat to me, you know?
It is.
It's so uninteresting.
And the way to defeat it is to take.
The perfect human who's engineered by the, like, human military, I guess, based off, like, a relic from that crash ship, from the, like, sarcophagus or whatever, because there's this, like, cycle, it's like, cycle, or something.
It's just, like, yeah, you've got to take, the fifth element is referencing, like, earth, like, earth fire, wind and air and water or whatever, and Mia Jovovich is the fifth element.
and love is what saves the world
the universe
yeah yeah it's like
the characters just really have nothing
like Bruce Willis like his whole thing is
he's on the phone to his friend
oh man the perfect girl doesn't exist
and then the perfect girl gets made
and then he instantly falls in love with her
and it's supposed to be I guess a love story
and then he fucking kisses her in her sleep
as if that's okay yeah creepy
he's more dangerous than the moon
Yeah, there's just, there's just no, like, meat to, like, you know, it's a churn.
There's, like, nothing going on.
It's like, it's like dangling, like, all these colors and crazy action scenes and
prosthetics in front of you, but it never, never goes anywhere or builds to anything.
Like, the whole, like, I was just, like waiting for, like, a bit more, like, commentary or something.
Well, I saw some quote saying that, like, he purposefully, like, didn't want it to be a theme
movie.
Just like, what?
There's one of the best things about science fiction is how you can take the themes and layer
themes and make it like,
include like commentary on our current lives or where things are headed.
And it's like, there's like little touches, I guess, but like, like with the McDonald's
thing, but is that like, is that a product placement?
Was that like a commentary more so?
It is, there's nothing really that thematic aside from, yeah, just little touches like
that seems way more focused on the like this is a silly space opera with the action and the crazy
aliens and it's like valerian it's like valerian it's like valerian there's nothing like to really
attach myself to in the film i just wasn't really i didn't really relate to any of the characters
but you didn't find it funny when milage over said by the boom not really and i can i can get why
people would like the universe of this film maybe maybe that's what they connect to they
like this futuristic world, but I think it's telling that they never made another film or like
never elaborated on this universe like we've seen with Star Wars with a Matrix where there
actually is more to explore there.
It kind of just feels random.
And this is just like, yeah, it's kind of random shit.
But just, yeah, just a consistent tone was like what I was after in some way.
Like if you want it to be a comedy, then you're going to need some like better jokes or
something.
It's not really funny.
Yeah, like Star Wars has a good story.
Like, it's a good movie.
And the music and the, like, the production and the design of everything.
It's like way more consistent.
Yeah.
And the universe is great too.
Like, you watch the sequels and read the books.
But, you know, that foundation was there.
And here it's like, yeah, I see, like, I don't hate it, but I don't, it's just hard to
connect myself to anything in it.
And it's like, Luke Besson trying to make like this big blockbuster, like this big,
it's like a French Hollywood movie.
Like that's what all of his movies are to me.
They're like a French guy trying to make like a big budget thing.
And it like never works.
Yeah.
Stay in your lane.
Make a more.
It is like stay in your lane.
Like make like art films or something.
Like Leon the professional.
Like that was fine.
Like something like that.
This is like let Hollywood make something like this.
They understand it better.
Yeah.
Go make expressionist art films.
do French new wave
make this more expressionist or more French
it's just like
it's like lacking a personality
it felt very bland
even the story it just like has all these like
you know it has the sad parts
and the swelling music or whatever
and I'm just like
I'm not feeling like what this movie wants me
to be feeling here
well yeah I felt no emotion
none
it's hard for me to even like remember
things that happened in it.
Yep.
This is like, this should be made for me, you know?
It's like a dorky science fiction thing.
You got these spaceships.
You got your aliens.
I normally love this kind of thing, but like I couldn't.
Even just basic stuff, like, the two of the main alien races, one is called the Mondosha ones and
the other ones are the Mangalores.
Just like, they sound so similar.
And I was like getting confused in the dialogue, getting lost in it.
like, it's just, it's just poorly constructed, in my opinion.
All right.
Yeah, it feels like no one but Luke Besson knew what it was supposed to be.
Like, even some of the act, like, like, the guy playing the president, it seemed like he
had no idea, like, what was going on.
Like, the delivery of his lines.
It's like, so strange.
That might be what people like about it, but that's odd to me.
And also, this film is too long.
Two hours, six minutes.
Yep.
too long for a movie that doesn't really do anything or go anywhere yeah
mm-hmm yeah well i thought they were gonna i thought it was like building to this space
opera scene um like the literal space opera the scene is kind of like the diva dance
it's kind of supposed to be i guess that yeah but that that whole sequence is like just like
a great example of why this movie doesn't work for me like it's this this this this this
ridiculously cartoonish tone
with like Chris Tucker like screaming
he's like he's like
Twitch streaming live like just screaming
like describing all these like random
bit characters that are supposed to be like jokes
yeah and then this is like goofy as hell
fight scene as they're like
juxtaposing this like
crying opera like
the opera's supposed to be the most like beautiful
this blue alien comes out and starts singing in the opera
and people like cry and so this is the most beautiful thing
in the universe type thing
while you're showing the goofy fight scene
and then they switch the tone to the drama
of like the blue alien like dies
but reveals that the Mcuffins were inside her all along
it's like what the f
this is so confusing
there's nothing about this I can really attach myself to it's just so silly
let's be honest the costume design for her looked like plastic tubing
like like fucking it just
a lot of it didn't look convincing or real or cool
You know, you got to like, at least look cool if you're going to not look convincing.
I don't know.
It was just like kind of, it felt like the entirety of the movie was just trying to be like,
lull so random and then also having an identity crisis with trying to be a serious science fiction
movie at points for some reason.
Like, just trying to be both of those things simultaneously and not deciding.
And it's very frustrating because it doesn't do either of them particularly well.
Right.
When I think of Star Wars, I think of scenes that I love.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Darth Vader fighting Obi-Wan, and he dies.
Like, that's a great scene.
Like, were there any scenes in this movie that, like, were good?
Like, that stand out to me.
Well, like, the trench run.
They're, like, countless in that movie.
The intro.
That was about it.
In this movie, it's just, like, Chris Tucker, like, yelling.
Like, that's, like, the highlight of the movie in the scene.
Like, that's one of the scenes.
Chris Tucker channels 2012 PewDie Pie.
and yeah
and that's the movie
it's not that compelling to me
yeah because that was one of the things I knew
about the movie going in was that like
Chris Tucker was like one of the more controversial
elements in terms of like yeah
it was awesome aside from Chris Tucker
like one of those but
I was turned off way before
he comes in a bitch is like more annoying than Chris
Tucker's so I don't know
they're both like pretty annoying
in the movie and they take up a lot
of space together
combined.
Bruce,
I don't know how
they can simultaneously
want you to
that scene
where Bruce Willis
is like hiding
the characters
in like the most
cartoonish scene ever
like freezing
the military
people in,
in his fridge and stuff.
It's so like
animated and over the top
but not in a way
that it's like
endearing to me
because it
it's just like
be goofy
or try and like
have the dramatic stuff
land.
Like it doesn't balance
the tone.
well enough. It's just so like all over the place.
Yeah, I don't think Luke Besant is like a great writer or director.
I don't think that he's like had particularly great concepts or ideas that have been fleshed
out in like great ways. Like I saw I saw Leone the professional like a long time ago and I remember
enjoying it but couldn't speak for it today. And then like everything else he's made. I'm looking at
the list and just like.
There's a lot of bullshit.
Yeah. Well, I remember, I watched, I watched Leon when I was like, 18 or something.
Because all I'd ever heard was like, oh, it's amazing. You've got to see Leon.
And I was like, yeah, I guess it was fine.
I mean, I've never wanted to like revisit it or anything.
It's just, it's just fine.
He's built a whole career of it.
Yeah, basically.
But then the fact that Valerian exists as well, though, it's just so similar.
Why the fuck didn't he just make a movie called The Sixth?
element instead of Valerian.
That probably would have made like a bit more money.
Oh, that would have done better.
Yeah.
Because it has like a cult following.
Yeah, like we didn't like it, but people who like this movie would have went out to
see it.
Yeah, no one knew.
And it would have elaborated on that world.
Like I said, like, okay, maybe you do explore something here that's like that
flushes out this universe.
Because I do find world building in science fiction interesting.
That's like part of the appeal for me.
Yeah, absolutely.
And yeah, it's just like kind of reminded me.
Terrigillium.
Apparently, like, he had a plan for a trilogy that he condensed into this movie.
But I'm just so mad.
What?
Like, how?
What do you mean?
There's just not enough going on.
And especially, like, if you, how would you even make a, what is even, what threads are even left to expand on, really?
Mm-hmm.
Right.
Yeah.
Exactly.
Yeah, I think when I really showed its true colors to me was that, like, crossbow scene.
towards the beginning with this guy
he's got like
he's got like the background
attached to his head
for some reason
so they can do that shot where like
they trick you into like
he's not there
and it's just like
I don't know what that like
was even happening really
a guy who's like
he's trying to get something off
Bruce Willis
with this crossbow
and he pulls the whole
oh yeah the crossbow works
when you press the button
and this guy's like really overacting
and like
like dancing and jiggling around on the spot like a cartoon character super weird man yes I wish someone
liked it so we could have like a perspective I know I was really hoping what you guys were but
there's some there's some people in my audience that like I did like a watchalong thing on stream
to it because I had already seen it before and I was yeah okay well I don't remember particularly
enjoying this movie anyway.
One of my Twitch
viewers said that this is
their favorite movie. So maybe I'll
ask them about that later. But I think
from what I've gathered, after
people saw my rating and posted about
it in the subreddit, there's a lot of people
that will say things like,
you know what? I love this movie, but I
understand it's not for everyone because it's kind of stupid.
And this is the same
way I feel about a movie like
Kung Pow, where I'm like, I
love the humor in that film.
And I understand, like, there's parts of it that really don't work for me in there.
But I understand if the humor doesn't work for someone, it doesn't really have much to offer in the film for anyone else.
So if somebody says like, oh, this is the worst movie, it's cringe, soy, whatever.
I'll be like, yeah, you know what?
You know, not your thing?
That's totally fine.
I would watch Kung Pow over this.
Oh, yeah, I love Kung Pow.
Kung Pow has, like, really awful parts that are just, like, so unfun funny to me.
But then it has these scenes that are, like, hysterical.
Like, it makes up for it, right?
But it has like these big peaks and valleys, whereas this is like just kind of in the middle, all time.
Yeah, it never quite hits being funny or entertaining or compelling or anything.
Like, it's, yeah, it never quite gets there for the fifth element.
It's very nothing.
Yeah, what you said, Ralph, about the scenes.
That's like so true.
Like, what are the, like, great scenes?
The taxi chase?
That's the thing about, I can imagine if you were like five years old and like saw this in the early 2000s, I could imagine, you know, being like, yeah, that was like a fun movie for my childhood.
And it's really, it was really fun and creative for this time period.
And it like blew my mind in the movie theater or whatever.
But visiting it now, especially with the first time, especially with like how many other examples of like good science fiction there is.
And especially with Valerian existing, man.
It's just...
It's so similar.
Yeah, it's superior Valerian.
Yeah.
Yeah, it's...
Yeah.
And, you know, this is a film from 97.
I don't want to shit on it too much for the special effects.
The 97 movie.
There's some really bad visual effects in this movie.
It doesn't age well.
That's for sure.
No, it hasn't aged well.
And if it was a better movie, maybe I could forgive it or...
I don't know.
That's the thing.
It's just so inconsistent.
Like, I like some of the miniatures and some of the costumes, but then, yeah,
Gary Oldman's whole get-up.
Yeah, that was so weird.
Like the morphing alien guys.
Yeah, so much of it just doesn't work.
And it's just kind of more irritating than anything else.
It's a film that's desperately trying to have a personality is how it feels.
At the cost of no one knowing what's going on who's working on the movie.
Yeah, just being incompetent.
I think a lot of people like this movie because of the tone.
I think that there's a lot of people that just they like the silly kind of
of space element and there's a type there's a type for this movie and yeah I was being facetious
earlier about the comic con thing like who knows but um I don't know there I could imagine this feeling
like nostalgic for some people in a way you know I could imagine just like the music which I hate
I could imagine that feeling like nostalgic for some people or something yeah
Mm-hmm.
It's annoying.
Yeah, I just, I can't be doing with it.
It's made for a very specific type.
When you do have your Starship Troopers, when you do have your total recalls and whatnot, they're just, they're able to balance that humorous tone in a way more entertaining way for what I'm after, at least, for this type of space fairing, like space opera movie.
Like, there's just so, there's so many way better examples to me.
I don't see where this sits in the, like, pantheon of, you know.
science fantasy
the space opera type movies
that it does better than a Star Wars
that it does better than any of those movies
I just listed it
I just don't see it
it's like a French Star Wars
to me
we
it's just like your French guy like
I can do that
and I guess he did his best
Luke
I'm your son pair
yeah
because this is it
for 97
it had a, well, like a $90 million dollar budget.
Huge.
How much?
Yeah.
90 million.
That's a lot.
That's pretty good.
Even Valerian cost a lot.
I don't know how he gets like this funding.
It's just a big studio, you know?
It's just, I just don't understand it.
I don't understand, like, how these movies get me.
It probably has connections to Epstein or something.
What?
What?
Fucking Chris Tugger was on the flight line.
Honestly.
Luke Besson makes movies.
about fucking babies and Chris Tucker was on the flight logs so why not?
Chris Tucker was on the flight logs really?
Oh my God.
Yeah, he was on the Epstein flight.
He was on the black book.
Yeah, that's like one of the confirmed ones.
He's too young.
Chris Tucker in and get her a glass of warm milk.
Chris Tucker in and read her bedtime story Tucker.
Jesus Christ.
So if he's, yeah, he stars in the movie.
Luke Bisson keeps making movies about fucking babies.
you know so and you know
Leon the professional has that element in there too
yeah he loves making movies where
the the main character
falls in love with a baby character
he likes doing that a lot
yeah yeah because like Bruce Willis was like
in his 40s I think when they did this
Milo Jovovich did Gougu Gaga talk the entire
fucking movie if it was like one movie
then oh right but yeah it's like five of his movies
yeah I just I don't understand the fun name
And nail in the coffin, he's French.
We got him.
The Hollywood studio system to me makes sense.
Like, the guy who directed Top Gun Maverick.
Like, he made Tron Legacy.
It's like, okay, it's not great, but it's like a good start to your career, right?
Because it's like a big budget property and make a lot of money.
And it'll like put him on the map as like a director.
And then he gets like a bigger budget to make something else like oblivion, which is like an original science fiction movie.
Yeah, was this successful even?
This, I don't know.
But then like, then he makes Maverick, which is like, it does really well.
Like, that's the studio system.
It just makes sense to me.
And this is like...
It was successful.
$263 million.
Like, how does he get $200 million to make this fucking thing?
They're like, no one knows if it's going to do well or not.
And then it's like, it's this weird movie that doesn't make any money.
And then it continues to get money to make other movies because he made Leon the professional, basically.
Like, it's insane to me.
It's Epstein money.
It has to be.
That's just a theory.
It has to me
You got 170 million for Valerian
That's wacky
Where does it come from
Is it the French government
Give them money?
I guess we solved that mystery
Yeah
That's the most plausible explanation
Yeah I was like
I wanted to
In my heart
I wanted to give this a 5 out of 10
Before I started watching it for the second time
because I was like, I couldn't remember anything about it from my first watch other than, like, I just wasn't into it.
And it has the number five in the title.
And I was like, it's calling me to give it a five of the ten.
But it was so bad that I couldn't.
I have to give it a three.
That's my rating.
The music sucked.
It was really awful.
Everything about it is just really, it's a bad movie.
Yeah, it was, the music was all over the place.
It was like, kind of had like 90 sounds, but also it had like reggae.
And then it had like the main theme.
that was trying to be it's like yeah when the main theme plays this is when it's it's
being serious and this there's something happening and building up yeah it's it's like a
big studio like trying to plug in all these elements to like appeal to certain demos
except it's just Luke Bissan like trying to do it itself like it's just like I'll throw
in reggae because people like that and like it's like what the fuck is this movie doing
oh man crazy French guy like guys I did get a good laugh when um Gary Oberman had
that like weird elephant thing like right around his neck.
Yeah, that was the best scene, the choking scene where,
yeah, Ian Holm is in it as well.
He's being like a kind of like an Obi-1 type figure,
a wise, like, you know, mystic type character.
I really like Ian Holm.
He's got such a theater kind of presence.
But man, again, just they just don't really do anything with him.
This is like so much of like the scene.
the dialogue are like oh me of jovovich is taking a shirt off in the background turn away isn't this
kind of funny and quirky google go yeah it's like it is like it is really doing that kind of thing
like just like the backward cigarette thing was annoying me as well yeah the fact it was like
all filter what does a cigarette look like in the future it's it's backwards yeah that was
pretty lame how did we feel about a bruce wallace in the movie um um um um
Because he's like the most normal.
I like the one shot where he, the gif of where he looks like he's just nodding his head,
yes, sarcastically kind of, like for a brief moment.
The one you see on Reddit, that was good.
Yeah.
That was good.
He wasn't bad in the movie.
Like he, you know, compared to, yeah, he was fine.
Recently, I guess he's done doing movies.
He has like a brain problem.
Compared to reprisal.
Yeah, yeah, he has some kind of mental problem.
With what he was given, like, I thought he was fine.
I mean, I just kept thinking of like 12 monkeys or, you know.
A better science fiction movie from only like two years later.
I mean, there's so many to choose from.
Yeah.
We can get every individual element of what is good about this movie, I guess, just elsewhere.
In a consistent package.
It doesn't stand out as one of his best performances.
To me, it doesn't stand out as one of his best anyway in terms of just as acting.
There wasn't a lot to the character.
He just, he was fine.
Right.
Yeah.
Well, yeah, he's just, he falls in love.
with the perfect girl.
Apparently.
The perfect girl acts like a baby.
Yeah.
And he kisses her while she sleeps.
Yeah.
Yeah, kisses her in her sleep.
She has the, um,
she has the like,
ultron moment where,
because she's, like,
built and has no idea,
like,
what humanity's done since the,
I guess the Egyptian times.
She, like, finds out about, like,
nukes and stuff and wants to give up.
It doesn't want to save the world.
But then that's when love comes in.
Yeah.
And saves everything.
It's really lame.
Love.
Love will save the day.
It always does.
Yeah.
What was that about?
I can't be doing this movie.
I was really hoping for more with how it like kind of sits in pop culture and the way people talk about it.
I was really expecting a bit a bit more.
Yeah.
Me too.
I liked some of the look of like the sets and stuff.
I do like practical sets.
Yeah, and like the vibrant colors and whatnot.
But even that was so, it's so like out there.
Like, there's so much variety to it that it lacked like consistency to me.
Like it's just random.
Like, so much shit.
Like, and yeah, some of the special effects.
Like she's like jumping out of the out of the window or whatever, like the fucking CGI cars.
Like so, like so bad.
Like, it reminded me of like the prequels, like the Star Wars prequels.
more so than like the old trilogy.
Yeah, of course.
Just those bad special effects and like the bad kind of dialogue in certain scenes.
It reminded me of what they both have like taxi chases and it's yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, it was like it was like attack of the clones like that level which is like that's probably the worst one.
Like attack of the clones.
Yeah.
That's probably the most boring Star Wars film.
Actually episode nine is worse but yeah.
Yeah, episode nine.
Um, but yeah, that's, that's, that's.
that's not a good comparison to be making for a science fiction movie.
But yeah, I do want to stress it's not,
it's not like inherently not enjoying a goofiness or a strangeness.
In fact,
that's one of the more appealing things about it,
but it's like,
what are you trying to say with it,
you know?
Like,
when it is just in service of an incredibly generic,
like,
incredibly cliche plot about love saving the universe,
like,
but it's also got the kind of sexual stuff going on.
It doesn't seem like,
Who is the audience?
Like, I guess teenagers?
Weird French people.
Just Luke.
Then you could watch like Fantastic Planet or something even if you want like, that's like a really cool, like weird, you know?
There's just so many other places you can get this kind of story that is actually consistent.
That movie conveyed so much more to me in like an hour and 10 minutes than anything in this movie.
Yeah, yeah.
Better music.
So many more themes.
We have music and like the animation's great.
But yeah, just like the themes of that.
film and the message of it
so much better communicated to me.
And this movie is twice as long.
Not nearly as try hard.
And it's more original.
There's no other movie like Fantastic Planet except like
one scene in the Green Night.
That's it.
Yeah.
So.
Yeah, big miss for me.
Three out of ten.
I wish I liked it more.
I have no idea.
What would you rate it, Alex?
Yeah, I'm really torn, actually
because it was my first viewing,
but I honestly never, like, why would I ever watch this again?
Uh-huh.
Like, I've already missed as so many other...
So by the way I'm talking about it,
this honestly sounds like a,
like a one or two star.
Damn.
Damn.
Yeah, I really did not enjoy it.
Like, Valerian was interesting to me
because of how weird and bad it looked.
And I wasn't expecting this
to also just kind of be weird and bad
in like a nearly identical way to that movie.
Yeah, weird French guy tries to make Star Wars and I would give it a five out of ten,
which I know that sounds generous, but I don't like it really.
If I liked it, I'd give it a six.
It's just like, it's not like the worst thing I've ever seen.
It's like really in the middle.
It's disposable.
I more appreciate why people like it.
I can see the appeal, but this is not my thing.
And I saw like other people I know gave it like a five.
I'm like, yeah, I'm probably more there than like I don't loathe it, but it's not,
it's not something I would watch again.
And I don't want to like piss anyone off who loves it.
Like it's for a very specific audience, I feel, who might like it.
Well, which is not me.
The tides have turned.
We have liberated people now who have felt.
If you want to watch Milozovic, I have like a little baby.
Yeah.
No, yeah, when I was seeing some of the posts in my,
in our subredits of like,
because my rating was on IMDB,
and there were,
there were a good amount of people being like,
yes,
thank you,
finally.
I don't know why the fuck people like this movie.
I'm like,
liberating.
I'm liberating people.
You are free.
I'm more interested in hearing from people who are like really into it.
So I'm going to get a different perspective.
Make a video response.
I can't see it.
What are the good scenes that people love from this movie?
Is it like the scene of Chris Tucker, like, acting crazy or like Milozovich escaping?
Like, what was the...
It's when she said multi-passed the second time.
That's when the movie was really good.
It's when Chris Tucker went on the island.
It's when the diva dance went when he screamed.
Yeah.
Like, don't show up me for making these jokes because Chris Tucker, he's in the movie.
He's in the flight logs
Yeah, exactly
In Valerian they had the whole like blue alien dancing as well
It's like the same thing
Like Viana is like turning into a goo alien
It's so strange
Just like all the stuff I remember this movie's like just visuals and like the action stuff
But Star Wars I remember you know not the action
Like the best parts of that movie is not the action
It's like the when Luke walks into the can'tina
And it's all the creatures or whatever
talks.
When I'm like gazing into the binary sunset.
I remember like six shots from the fifth element.
Yeah, there's a small amount of action like Obi or Obi-Wan cutting the guy's arm off
for like Hans Solo shooting in Trin.
But yeah, that's, that's good.
It's at the end.
Yeah.
It's like good buildup to it.
Like you give a shit about what's happening.
They set up really well.
So you're like, oh, yeah.
And the weirdness kind of complements the story more.
They like use it to make a like scarier environment.
It's like a desert at the beginning or the canteener stuff.
It's just, I don't know.
It's just so many other examples.
Yeah.
All right.
Question time.
That was a, thanks for the recommendation, Alex.
You're welcome.
I always wanted to see that.
And especially thanks to Luke Besant.
Thank you, Mr. Bezant.
Besson.
Okay, let's do some questions then from the Sodorant community.
If you want to leave your own questions, head over to the suggestion.
suggestion thread on the subreddit, just like Bonky Schlong June Ho did.
Nice.
Since we have a panel with plenty of experience, what is the gayest film?
Or your favorite queer film, happy pride.
Also for the Jean Delman lovers out there, do yourself a favor and watch, and I'm going
to butcher this.
J.
T.
Ill.
L.
Is that right?
Yeah.
Jette Il L.
Yeah.
I think that's another Chantelle Ackerman.
Yeah
I think I've seen it
So there's two questions in the gayest film and your favorite queer film
Top Gun
Yeah top gun
Yeah original Top Guns up there
Nightmare and Elm Street 2
Death Race 2
Are we talking like
So we're not talking about like
Call me by your name
We're talking about like movies that are like
Have like gay themes
You could say that as like your favorite
Even gayer than call me by your name
Yeah
Yeah.
I think it's too fast,
too furious.
The movie Too Fast Too Furious has a lot of gay undertones.
Yeah, that's a good one.
Like the opening credits are like pink neon.
Like there's like this really weird like wrestling scene with Tyrese and Paul Walker.
It's like so weird.
Some weird dialogue.
Weird as in you're just not expecting it in that kind of movie.
You're just like I wasn't expecting gay undertones of this film.
I thought it was going to be a movie about like car racing.
Yeah.
Yeah.
In terms of actual gay movies, call me by your name is up there for sure.
I need to give it a second watch at some point.
I've kind of just been letting it sit.
I'm excited to get back to it.
I really like that movie.
Portrait of a lady on fire.
Yeah, yeah.
The favorite.
Favorite's awesome.
Yeah.
Moonlight.
Weekend by Andrew Haig is a good romance movie.
Yeah.
It's a really basic, just straightforward, like,
It's almost like if you just it's almost like
Like before trilogy just like two people
Talking and sharing a connection sort of thing
You know
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah not there's a lot of there's there's
There's a lot that I haven't seen that I would like to see
I haven't seen headwig in the egg three inch
That's supposed to be good
Oh yeah
Fucking John Waters movies
I've never even seen Brokeback Mountain.
Never seen Brokeback? Okay.
No.
Yeah, Brokeback Mountain.
I'd love to see that soon.
Have you seen it?
Eng Lee.
I really like Ang Lee.
No, I haven't seen it.
I like Angley now.
Okay, cool.
I'm going to know that down.
Yeah.
Except for Hulk.
His best movie, obviously.
Yeah, Hulk.
Dog Day Afternoon, is that?
Is it?
I guess kind of.
Kind of.
I don't, I've seen that.
I don't remember that aspect of it.
I've only seen it once.
Yeah, I'm just looking at a list here and that's on there.
Well, there was that part of the movie where, like, the people outside thought one of the robbers was gay.
Oh, yeah.
Did he say he's like gay or something?
That's a weird one to include.
Yeah, I don't remember if he said it.
What is, are you looking at like a Google made list or like an article made?
No, I'm looking at like a letterbox list.
I'm looking at movies I watched.
Yeah.
Well, Holland Drive.
That's true.
That's a good one.
That's a true.
Mm-hmm.
Scott Pilgrim versus the world.
Lots of, um, that's true.
Because when I first saw that movie, I didn't,
realize the amount of inclusion in it there's a lot of like gay characters lesbian characters in it
which is cool what about light year the gayest movie so bad that you have to stop kids from seeing it
because it's too gay yeah it's political the drama i saw the clip like being shared on twitter of
that controversial scene it's like really this is what it's got people what's so bizarre about it is just
like this is it's not this isn't like even a new thing Disney's been doing this shit for a while
like just having like oh let's have representation by having like what two characters in the
background kiss for like half a second like this is this isn't the first one why is this one
it's everything's so fucking weirdly charged right now against against queer people in the states
right now yeah so I saw light year yeah it was it was weird so the controversies yeah I did
So the controversy is like what the there's like two characters that kiss in it that are lesbians I saw the movie
You can't show children that yeah any gay people exist ever that that scene's not in the movie
They must have cut it out wow your theater wait really no no I did not see that scene
For real because I saw the clip on on Twitter someone must have like
Maybe you've blinked it in theater I don't know what happened when I saw the movie I swear I did not see them
There's lesbians in it they like look at each other and then it cuts
No
Maybe you're seeing or cut it out
That would be weird
You know I don't know
I don't know what the fuck happened
Yeah the clip I saw was like an extremely brief kiss
Like they're just like they're just saying
Okay bye
There's been theaters in the States that have been doing that
Like unironically
Really?
Yeah
Yeah it's fucking crazy
Like why now
It's so strange
Yeah like finding Dory had
I think like a gay kiss in the background
Why wasn't that as controversial?
No
wasn't a gay kiss. That was a really dumb one, finding story.
Like two women pushing a stroller or something.
Were they like holding hands or something?
It's like two lesbians, yeah, but they don't even necessarily have to be like lesbians.
It's just like two women and a baby stroller.
Like it's like the most vague thing.
Like that's not really inclusion.
That's like you just threw that in there for fucking marketing.
Here it's like there were lesbians in the movie.
Like definitely they're a lesbian couple, but you don't see them kiss.
Well, what if one of them is a male to female trans lesbian?
and then for conservatives, they can say that that was a straight kiss.
So everybody wins.
Now, that would blow their minds.
That's what I was thinking the new James Bond should be a trans woman
because then people who don't want a woman to be James Bond will say it's a man,
and everybody wins.
That's true.
I never thought about it like that.
Five head, big brain time.
Yeah, I bet that would do great.
That's blur in my mind.
So what?
You think they edited it out for your showing.
I've seen, there's, there's been images circulating.
I have no idea.
Like, of, of, of printouts from theaters in America, depending on where you are, I don't know,
depending on who owns the theater or who's managing whichever location, there's been
printouts of people being like, oh, sorry, we're trying, we're, we're going to try our best
to fast forward through this scene or like, like, something like that.
Like, I don't know.
Yeah.
So who knows the legitimacy to this?
You know, I live in New York.
I live in New York, which is like a pretty, like, liberal state.
Yeah, that's what some, yeah.
If I lived in, like, Tennessee or something, I guess.
But it's like, yeah, it's a pretty liberal place.
Like, there's a lot of, like, obviously, gay people.
Was it a big theater chain that you went to or was it like a...
It's AMC.
Okay, I saw an AMC.
Yeah, I have no idea what happened, honestly, because I was waiting for it.
What if you just, blink?
What if it was just that short?
I don't think I, no, no, I don't think I missed it.
No, because it is from the clip I saw.
it's just like so like what I actually can't believe that this is what it's got people
wrote up over these past few months I've been made to feel like I'm crazy or something
like between the it's morbin time thing which is not in the movie and now this and now this
kiss that like people are saying it's in the movie I saw the movie it's not in there
I'm like or people like do people even watch these fucking movies anymore like they just
make shit up about it I don't even know there's some controversy for some reason
yeah I still don't know if there's a kiss in this movie or not that's funny
So odd. So insignificant.
Okay, now I'm like questioning if I even saw like it.
Yeah.
Well, what?
It's like that's all the conversation becomes about.
Like, no one even talks about the movie.
They're just talking about like this one second in it.
Well, yeah.
So I didn't want to go see it like at a protest because it's just like such a dumb,
annoying idea to me.
Oh, yeah.
I just like to see it because it doesn't look interesting.
I don't even have to protest.
Right.
Yeah, exactly.
But, but now I'm kind of.
kind of curious. It had a huge, it didn't do well. The Lightyear movie didn't do well. It had like a huge
drop off the second weekend. It was like a 79% drop off, which is really bad. Like,
Top Gun has been doing well like consistently. Like that's why it's made over a billion.
Okay, there's a short kiss. I watched the kiss. There's a short kiss. Oh, you found it. Yeah.
You want me to send it to you? They cut it out. Yeah, put it in the Discord. They caught out of the
movie. I want to see if it's the scene that I think it is. It's very short. I don't know. I miss stuff all
I want to see if it's...
I'm...
Oh, yeah.
Wait.
It's a very short kiss.
I miss...
I watch movies without blinking and miss things, too.
It's something that short I could just imagine I missed.
Yeah, this is what I saw on Twitter.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Like, who gives a shit?
Yeah, that's not...
Oh, this is just nothing.
Yeah, maybe I missed it.
Maybe I missed it.
Maybe I missed it.
It's so weird, because it's like, it's one of those things where it's like, okay.
I understand that Disney is not doing this because they actually care about anyone's rights or representation.
They're doing it because it's a financial decision for them.
That much is very clear.
However, if every single instance of two people of the same gender kissing is like trying to groom or brainwash children, then it's like, should you not show straight people?
kissing? Like, what the fuck?
Yeah, exactly.
What do you mean? Like, what do you mean? You can't... It's like a staple of like Disney
animated movies. At what point can you just have like two characters that are gay that exist
in any movie without, you know, certain people thinking like, that's political.
It's like, well, yes and no, you know?
It's a, what's the point of getting upset about it? Like, who cares?
It's so silly. Yeah. I think it's a good thing.
Like this big popular studio. Yeah, they're just doing it for money, obviously, because it's
the popular thing to do.
but that should show you like how far we've come
like as a culture that this big movie
that makes billions of dollars like
no one gives a shit about gay kissing
or whatever like if you let children
know that gay is option
then they'll all be gay
like
it makes that sense
if like literally like
one percent of their day
they saw
not even
if like a fraction of a percent of their day
they saw two of the same gender
kissing. That's going to ruin their entire life. Like, what? Okay. Calm down, grandma. That was so
quick in the movie. I might have missed it. Actually insane. It's insignificant. It's insignificant.
Yeah, it is insignificant, right? And people made such a big fucking deal about it. And yeah,
the movie idea was just stupid, like, to make a, like a, a live action kind of movie that
Andy watched before buying the toy. So technically the movie takes place in the 90s, because that's
like when Andy would have bought the toys
because that's like when the first toy story takes place.
So it's technically like a movie made in the 90s.
It's so weird.
It's live action in the toy story universe.
That's what I'm really confused.
So it's a movie that Andy watched.
It's a movie that Andy watched.
It's what the toys based off of or something.
In theaters, in 1990, whenever the first toy story came out, the 90s.
So it's not like a real event that happened within the toy story universe.
No, it's just a movie that Andy's watching.
Oh.
So in the toy story universe, gay rights were like 30 years before the real universe.
Right.
Right.
It's so odd.
It's like such an odd idea for a fucking movie.
They were more progressive in the toy story universe.
Yes, an awful idea.
I saw on Twitter like one of the toys based on Lightyear, but it's not like the Buzz Lightyear toy.
It's like a weird, like, cool, realistic Buzz Lightyear toy.
It's like, what?
This is this weird.
It's a circular thing where I'm like so confused and I don't even understand like what is happening anymore.
It's like eating itself.
We should talk about it at some point.
Yeah, this movie Lightyear.
Maybe I'll recommend it so you guys can see it when it's out on like Disney Plus or whatever.
But yeah, like I just feel like another huge part of Buzz Lightyear's character in the Toy Story movies is that he is a toy.
And it's like he takes himself very seriously.
But he has no self-awareness.
So he's actually like this toy that can't really do anything.
And that's like funny because he lacks self-awareness.
And here, he's just like a space ranger.
So it's like, okay, that's not...
That was like, that was part of what made Toy Story cool
was like, it's like a little bit of commentary in there
with the cowboy stuff being overtaken by the sci-fi stuff, you know?
It's like, the modern thing of it.
And now, but it's like, what?
So that's so fucking confusing.
Like, the movie that he watched and then that...
It's so dumb.
I hate that idea.
It's a real synecdochie in New York.
Yeah.
Right.
It's like a Charlie Coughman made a Pixar movie.
The actors are acting.
So weird.
Yeah.
And it's Chris Evans, not Tim Allen,
because Tim Allen got canceled because he's a Trump supporter.
Also, he sounds really old.
Or something else.
Yeah, he's just an old.
I shouldn't say, say, just because of that.
He's just an old guy.
They'll probably have Tim Allen back in another Toy Story.
If they make Toy Story 5, they'll have Tim Allen back.
He's not fully canceled.
Yeah.
Yeah.
He's fine.
I don't mind him.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's just this lightier movie was.
like such a just a misfire definitely a miscalculation just leave toy story line please yeah
they haven't been for a while what do you mean this is already done oh no toy story four was
pushing it toy story three was pushing i was upset like i remember saying i was never going to say
i was never going to see toy story four and then i saw it i'm like okay that was fine like they made
something good out of it it didn't feel like a complete waste of time and then they made light ear it's
like okay now they're pushing it now they're really like fucking what's that
the fans.
I thought the trilogy was fine.
That was it.
Like, just put a rhythm on it's done.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Four was like,
come on.
Mm-hmm.
And now white ear.
This is a zombie thing I was saying earlier.
Just like,
it's coming out of the grave.
You can't let it die.
Mm-hmm.
Another question?
Yeah, that was a good one.
Codex.
Ask this.
Do you feel that watching films back-to-back takes away from the experience?
For example,
watching Martyrs and then watching the Lego movie,
immediately after would not give you time to process what you've seen in the first film the
change in tone can be jarring does watching seven films in a day at a festival affect the way you
think about each individual film um it can i've never really suffered from that particularly
because i love like bulk watching movies i i i it's easy if it's a great film
nothing's going to stop me from being into that film like the previous movie isn't going to stop me
from being into the great film.
Worst case scenario,
going straight from a great film
into a really bad film
can make the bad film seem much worse.
It can make it be like, oh boy,
I remember when movies were fun 30 minutes ago.
It can make you feel like that.
But, you know, the opposite is also true
where if you watch like a horrendous, boring movie
and then immediately go into a good movie,
it's like, holy shit.
You know, it feels so much better.
better just emotionally, but
yeah, that's true.
Yeah.
But with those examples, like,
they're so tonally different.
That's not one.
It would be more of an issue
if it was like all these movies
that were trying to do a similar thing,
perhaps.
Maybe that would affect the experience a bit more for me.
But if it's like the Lego movie after martyrs,
like they're just such different audiences,
such different tones and styles.
Like, that's really never been an issue for me.
Yeah.
Hmm.
Yeah.
I mean, if you need time to process a movie, then fucking...
Also, it's not at film festivals, unless you're doing like an online one and your schedule's packed like me.
At normal in-person film festivals, you have time in between movies because you're lining up for the next one after, you know?
Like, you do have time to process in between.
So, yeah.
Okay.
woe says why do you think so many artists sign the petition to defend roman bolanski and what do you
think about it because it was a different time and i think it's difficult for people to
i i think that people are more willing to give credit to people that they know and have met
personally um and they're willing to tell themselves things like oh they just didn't know what
they were doing and it was like you know people are willing to like make up stories in their heads
for the sake of other people uh that they've shared like personal connections with in their life
and it's a lot easier to uh discount somebody and toss somebody away if you've never met them
and if you've never worked with them um and that's just like a real human bias that we have and
it's only up until recently where like people have been more expected to
toss away friendships over misconduct and you know let's be honest rape is what it was
yeah it's a pretty bad one not gonna pretend it wasn't bad but um yeah and i mean also like he's
you know he's one of the greatest artists of all time based on his art alone and not him as a you know
yeah that was the only angle i could really think of like
His films were very successful, critically and financially.
He's made some of the greatest Rosemary's babies.
You could watch that movie today and still enjoy it.
Yeah, this isn't just, oh, he's a good director.
This is like, oh, he's one of the most important directors of all time based on his work.
Yeah, yeah.
It's nuts.
Yeah, like you can't.
That's why it's so difficult for people, especially also.
So the petition was September 2009.
I'm just looking at some of the people who signed it.
Woody Allen.
That's funny.
Wes Anderson.
Pretty much everybody that signed it, regrets it.
Right?
Didn't Scorsese sign it?
Paranoffsky, Adrian Brody, Alfonso Coran, Guillermo, D'Otero, Harrison Ford, Terry Gilliam, Jeremy Arons, John Landis, David Lynch, Sam Mendes, Natalie Portman, Brett Ratner.
Brett Ratner, sorry.
Yeah, Scorsesey's there, Tilda Swinton, Emma Thompson, Harvey Weinstein.
right
yeah
yeah I think you're right
it's just kind of a different time
yeah
yeah it's uh
not only like is it
like by the time that
that petition got signed
a lot of time had already passed
um and I like
I don't know the full story
but like there was
I think part of the narrative was like
the victim had already said like
oh, he's, you know, he, you know, I forgive him.
I don't want him to be charged sort of thing.
Like, that's what I think that the narrative is from the people that were defending Polanski.
I, you know, I could be wrong on that.
But so there's a lot of little things that go into this where it's like, okay, yeah,
I can see how someone can, in their own head, forgive or make excuses for that person,
especially if they have a personal connection with him, you know, but that's,
the same time, it's like, okay, well, you should probably go to jail for doing that.
Yeah, he's like literally on the run and can't travel to where he wants.
Yeah.
Because of what he did.
It's like, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, he's a monster.
And then he won a Caesar award.
Yeah.
Actually, he won an Oscar first, and then he won more Caesars.
Which is kind of funny.
So it's really confusing.
Lots of very evil.
people get awards.
Uh-huh.
Still,
like,
uh,
Louis C.K.
Mm.
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah,
well,
yeah,
that's a whole other discussion that I'm not going to do.
Yeah.
There's a reason that the whole art from artists thing is just,
are so regularly on the question threads and whatnot.
It's kind of like,
it's one of the core philosophical debates when it comes like,
ah,
and it's like,
you can't deny,
as you're saying,
his,
contributions to cinema.
So, yeah, I can from that perspective be like, I guess.
I don't know, man, it's so fucking weird.
Yeah.
There is no answer for it, which is, you know.
Everyone's a pedophile in Hollywood.
So if you buy a Hollywood movie or buying a pedophile movie, that's the end of it.
Or maybe a cannibal.
There's a 40% chance.
The ones who aren't pedophiles are cannibals.
Except Tom Cruz, he's okay.
Scientologist.
He's got his own.
He's got his own demons.
Scientologist.
He's got his own zinous.
Yeah.
Yeah, we've had this conversation before.
I buy Nestle products.
Fuck, so.
Mm-hmm.
Oops.
Child labor.
Uh-oh.
Yeah, if you use like an iPhone, like,
yeah.
Or wear like the micies.
Like everybody.
Yeah.
Yeah.
There's always some amount of like,
I don't know, complacency is the word, but like,
yeah, like what the fuck are you supposed to do?
Like, not use an iPhone, not go to the movies?
You need to buy a cabin in the woods and disconnect from everything,
hunt everything yourself and build everything yourself.
You basically have to be Amish, like, to live this, like, perfect lifestyle
where you never watch any movie that's, like, made by a bad person,
like a stand-up special made by a bad person.
Yeah, and he's not the only person that makes the movie.
Exactly.
But yeah, it's, I, yeah, the, a lot of the people that signed the Roman Polanski petition, they all regret it now.
Like, ask every, almost every single one of them has been interviewed and just been like, okay, yeah, I regret putting my name on that.
That makes me look really bad.
But there's one person that didn't sign the petition, Roman Polanski.
He's one of the good ones.
All right.
I don't.
Cool.
Very funny.
You can.
All right.
All right.
Lex I, 420 has one for us.
What are your thoughts on the new season of Stranger Things if you've even watched it?
I'm not sure how I feel about Volume 1, but everyone I know seems to like it a whole lot, but I'm kind of on the fence.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.
Thanks for the quality content you guys are really fun to listen to.
Oh, man.
I'm done with Stranger Things.
I couldn't even watch it
Have you seen any of it?
I couldn't even watch it
I'm like this is not
This is not even the same show anymore for me
Like it's all high schoolers
And I just couldn't stand it honestly
It is interesting that it's gone on for so long
And they put so much money into it
It's Netflix's biggest show
Yeah like isn't every episode
It's got like a $12 million budget or something
It's like bigger than Game of Thrones
It's like level kind of budgets
It doesn't feel it
Definitely doesn't feel that way.
I don't know.
I've seen what is out there for this, like, season.
30 million per episode, according to the Wall Street Journal.
That's fucking crazy.
That's like, that's so unnecessary.
That's insane.
That must be something to do with, honestly, one of my biggest problems with it is,
it's like, speaking of Game of Thrones, it's like trying to be this, like, ensemble cast.
There's, like, there are so many characters.
It's so bloated.
Every episode's like over an hour long, pretty much.
Right.
It just doesn't seem, yeah, that necessary.
But in saying that, I still think it's better than season two and three,
those to me were like totally throw away.
Really?
Okay.
I'll give it another chance.
Yeah, you were right.
It's just like all these characters they're focused on.
Even in the first episode there, I'm like, what the fuck is going on?
Like, I don't even know half these people.
Yeah, with like certain story threads just feel like so throwaway, like the whole, like,
the whole hopper and Russia thing.
It's just like, every time they go to that storyline, it's like, man, it just feels like
so unnecessary and like, waste of my time.
But then, like, the villain I way prefer over the previous seasons.
Like, that was, for the show that's supposed to be, like, channeling, like, the campy
A.T's, like, thing type horror.
I was really disappointed by how they always, like, implemented, like, their creatures.
Like, it's always, like, a CG thing.
Like, especially in season two, it was, like, these, these.
dog things that were like, it reminded me tremors too or some like goofy ass.
It's like, it's just not enough to like to be the driving force for the show.
But four, four has more going on in terms of that.
But man, is it bloated?
I just feel like that first season, there was like a huge drop off after that.
Oh, yeah, definitely.
Well, it's just the same thing.
I couldn't get into it after that.
Yeah, you're right.
Yeah.
Maybe that's why the, uh, budgets are so inflated.
It's just paying all the cast members at this point because they've got to, like,
renegotiate a contract each season and get like a bigger chunk for every episode.
Like how much do you think like Millie Bobby Brown is getting per an episode of
strange to things now? It must be obscene.
Right.
Yeah.
Yeah. Crazy.
Another one.
Big C-baller has this to say.
Back in 2015, 2016, there was a huge backlash against channels that did reaction videos.
I know Alex has made videos on the topic in the past.
Now, nearly four years later, reaction videos.
seem to be more common and not nearly as hated as it once was.
My question is, how do you feel about the evolution of reaction videos
compared to a couple of years back?
What?
Depends on how it's down, I guess.
Hmm?
Yeah, there's a, I guess, reaction content.
Remember back in the day of, like, jinx?
That was, like, a whole, like, controversy on YouTube.
Yeah.
And it's kind of resurfaced, I think, it was a few months ago.
There was, like, a Hassan clip that was going around where he leaves.
left the room and just lets the video play.
That kind of stuff is a bit silly to me.
It's kind of bending the...
I mean, there's a lot of...
Twitch streamers don't get hit as hard with, like, DMCA and copyright claim shit.
Like, they don't have the content ID system as hard.
Like, it's a different system and it gets utilized differently.
And so a lot of Twitch streamers, a lot of popular ones, are kind of doing shitty things where
they're like just testing the limits.
They're like, I'm going to watch full episodes of Naruto.
Like, and just spend the whole day.
Like Jim Can't Swim videos and stuff like that.
I mean, at least with YouTube content creators like JCS, at least that's other internet content
where you can be like, oh, contact them on Twitter.
Hey, do you care if people watch content like this?
And they go, no, I like it when people share my stuff.
I like it when, you know, me personally, if you want to watch any,
one of my YMS reviews or anything on your stream, go for it. I don't mind the publicity. I don't
I don't feel like I'm being stolen from. However, when you're doing that with like anime, where you know
you know that they're not going to be okay with it. And like if they do want to crack down on it,
that's how you get more strict rule enforcement is by pushing it like that. Like, come on,
Pocomane. Fuck, why are you doing that? And then Hassan like...
She was watching Naruto or another anime? Like, she was watching like full episodes of a
like television. Really? Yeah. What, like showing it on screen and everything?
There's like a bunch of Twitch streamers that were doing that shit. Yeah, it was like a part of the
meta. It was just like watching anime or something. Yeah, that's bad. It was ridiculous. And then
yeah, Hassan, I just don't respect intellectually. So I just
yeah
yeah it seems to be like the rise of twitch type thing
I don't know
when you are watching like the entirety of a gym can't swim
it depends on your engagement too
like what are you commenting on it you
pausing it to talk about your feelings on it
you turning it into something else
live streaming content is definitely
different and requires like a different
thought process in terms of like
how much content you use because if you're reacting to something live,
you don't necessarily know how much of the original content you're going to be reacting to,
right?
And so I'm fine with watching stuff on stream and reacting to it.
What I've been doing, shout out to my new channel called YMS watchalongs.
What I've been doing is I've been watching films,
the types of films that it wouldn't matter if I was watching with an audience.
but I don't show it on the screen.
I just have like a countdown timer and I have it, you know, you can sync it up on your end.
You can watch it on Netflix or whatever.
And it doesn't matter how much I react to it because all I'm broadcasting is my reaction.
It doesn't matter how.
Yeah, it's more like a live commentary track.
Yeah, something like that.
Yeah.
That's a commentary.
That's pretty guilt-free for me and I don't feel like, yeah.
But then there's other stuff I do where like I'll react to like a Dar Man or Generation Hope video.
And I'm essentially, I'm showing like the whole.
thing, but I'm pausing every like 30 seconds because there's so much to talk about that it inevitably,
you know, like it is inherently a different product that I'm offering because it's impossible
to experience the original in the way that it was originally intended with me constantly
making criticisms to everything, you know. Yeah. Yeah, it really depends. If the YouTube
creator or whoever makes the content, if they're cool with it, you just like watching through the
whole thing and eating a bag of chips, then great. If you want to do with that with my content,
please do. Just proper credit, you know. Yeah, I guess it's the credit thing that's important.
Like, it shouldn't be the assumption to not do that or to only address it like when you
upset someone. The standard, I guess, you'd be more so to try and contact first, especially if it is
like watching a entire gym can't swims or something. Yeah, and preferably if you do that, maybe
don't do the YouTube upload in its
entirety because that's where it gets
really dicey where it's like
okay well people are searching
but at least edit out all of the like
dead bits you know
get your free editors that you had to get bullied
into paying Hassan get your free editors
to cut out the parts where you're
eating where you leave the room yeah
you socialists that had to get
bullied into paying your editors like what the
fuck is oh Jesus Christ
apparently I'm more socialist than
a person that calls himself a socialist
Yeah, that's just embarrassing.
Yeah, I don't care about your house.
I care that you had to get bullied into paying your editors.
That's funny.
Yeah, I just remember the time when reaction videos were so oversaturated.
It was just like all over YouTube to where that's like all that was on the front page or whatever.
And I felt like there was other content out there that was better or deserved more of a spotlight than that.
and now I think that problem's kind of fixed,
so I don't really have an issue with it.
You know, react whatever the fuck you want.
Really, I feel like it's just kind of accepted now.
Like, once...
Yeah, it used to be a little more obnoxious, I feel...
Once, like, PewDie Pied started doing, like, meme reactions
and, like, meme compilation video, you know,
like, just, like, basically scrolling through, like,
TikTok pretty much, like, Instagram reels or whatever.
That's like a huge...
Like, I hated those reaction videos.
And what even happened at them?
Are they here?
Everything.
on the internet is so fucking derivative.
You know, everybody's just making
content about content, about content, about content.
And it's fine. Like, whatever.
Just try to make sure that
the people creating things aren't getting
cucked out of...
Lots of great movies are derived of other great movies.
Everything all at once has references to 2001.
Joker.
Joker rips off Taxi Driver and King of Comedy
and other Morton Scorsese movies.
Yeah.
Yeah, whatever happened to the fine bros, are they, like, still around?
I'm sure they're still doing this.
They got embarrassed too hard and are still making content, but are not.
Oh, they are.
It's called React.
I just remember that whole Ellen thing.
Ellen thing?
Well, them trying to copyright the term React.
Yeah, that was the big one.
Really lame.
Yeah, because Ellen was making reaction videos and they were trying to, like, copyright it.
Yeah.
That was really lame.
name yeah and now Ellen got canceled but so who cares but yeah there's a bunch of uh there's a bunch
of crazy people that exists that don't know different time like the reaction video era was like that's
gone i feel like that kind of shit there's still reaction videos but they're different you think so i feel
like it's bigger than ever it's just like changed how it's delivered yeah they're different to me it's
depends on it for streamers it's not controlled by the fine bros it's it's like yeah it's more just
like people get to watch things and react to them
like normally, which I think is fine.
They were just like this oversaturated,
annoying culture of it, like,
at that time. Yeah, you don't pay a bunch
of annoying college kids to pretend
the Lion King is live action.
And then, like, people would make videos, and they were, like,
React girls and all that shit.
Oh, my God. Reply girls?
Reply girls. That's what they were called.
Oh, yeah, those.
Reply videos.
It's just like, yeah, stuff like that.
Yeah, I feel like, oh, that's,
it's, like, better to react.
the things now. The videos are not obnoxious. But although what you're describing sounds kind of
annoying, like people uploading whole episodes of anime or whatever. That's crazy. Yeah. Like,
when you're leaving, when you're leaving the room, that's, that's, you can get away with it on
Twitch. Yeah. It's crazy. Yeah, Twitch, you can seem to get away with that kind of stuff. Yeah.
That's just nuts. I would just not want to do that. You know?
Someone reviewed Lover and he like, the, his review was basically,
he he he screen recorded him watching it on vimeo and he paused it to like make commentary and like
and it's like a two hour long video I'm like oh fuck you go fuck yourself and now so he took the video
down and uploaded it in three parts so it's the same video it's just three parts that guy's a
fucking asshole loophole yeah like that's not okay fuck you yeah yeah you wouldn't you wouldn't be doing
with like a paramount pictures, Viacom feature, you know?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Big lawyers.
Yeah.
That's not a review.
That's you watching the movie and then pausing it to say stupid shit.
Like, that's not a review.
It's put, it takes, it takes no thought or effort to do that or editing.
Yeah.
Not too transformative, it sounds.
At all.
No.
Well, do we want to do one more or leave it at that?
Yeah, sure.
Should we do a final?
Let's do one more.
From past confusion 3234.
This question is more aimed at Ralph and Alex since Adam uses IMDB, but do you think Letterbox
should add TV shows?
This has caused a big debate in the feedback channel of some people loving the idea.
idea of this feature and others wanting letterbox to stay strictly to just films and if you
think if tv shows should be added to letterbox how do you think it should be implemented
fucking add porn who gives a shit here's my answer yes yes add tv shows because they're already on
there yeah there's a ready series that are on there there's just selective people just they find like
the breaking bad documentary and then they just rate that at five and it's just boosted in place of
the show anyway exactly there's countless there's countless
examples of that other series that are series are on yeah like why do you need to keep shows off the
website is my question what makes the website better by keeping television off its television is just film
segmented it's still film yeah especially with how like streaming services are just blurring the
line even more like who cares like genuinely who cares and it would probably just increase
engagement all around like there are certain shows everyone talks about is bo burnham's inside on
letterbox? Yeah. Because that was
nominated for fucking Emmys and
not, like that was considered a TV
That's what I mean. Like, Wanda Vision is on it.
They have, they have series on there.
Wanda Visions on there. Big little lies and
Obi Wuan. If it's a mini series, it's good? Or like,
is that the logic? If it's a popular
series or if it's a mini series, they seem
to put it on there. No Simpson. So just fucking put
it all on. It makes no sense.
Yeah. Like, I'm trying to figure it out.
It's just frustrating. And if they did do it,
I'd want to see, um, I like on
IMDB how each episode has its own rating.
I like that.
It'd have to do that.
Yeah, I like that too.
Like Love, Death and Robots, each episode is on letterboxed individually.
Yeah, there's no consistency.
It's just like what?
So why isn't like the wire on that?
Well, the wire actually might be on that.
No, it isn't.
There's like a documentary of the wire on there.
Oh, yeah.
The wire is great.
It's just no high ratings.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, it just doesn't seem to make any sense.
Like, why are there?
That's no sense to me.
Why not?
Yeah.
yeah there's no good reason for it at all
why would their web would the website do that
add video games
have they have the creators of letterboxed
explained why
they're doing that no no
it makes no sense to me
like yeah you can rate video games on imdb
who gives a shit
yeah i think right yeah yeah
who cares
Yeah, there doesn't need to be another app just for TV shows.
Yeah, is that what we're going to have to do?
Like, a separate app for video games and TV.
Well, yeah, there already is a video game one.
I can't remember what it's called, but...
Oh.
Yeah, like, that's lame.
It's called, like, backlog or something.
All right, um, I guess that's it.
That was the questions.
That's it.
We did it.
Nice.
There's a film recommendation maybe, but not really kind of, I guess.
Alex, why don't you explain what the hell is happening here?
So, yeah, we got a guest coming on next episode.
James, the right opinion will be joining us.
When we started recording, I hadn't got his recommendation,
but about an hour really texted me.
Oh, shit, we haven't.
Thank Christ.
So we got it, we got it.
And it is 1995's Nobody's Fool.
Okay.
Robert Benton.
I haven't seen this, but
cool.
Okay.
I have,
it's,
IMDB says 1994,
actually.
Ooh,
I'm going to have to have a go in for the.
That's an error.
Going to have to
bring that,
we're going to have to start some drama over this one.
If you don't want to be spoiled for
Nobody's Fool,
directed by Robert Benton,
uh,
starring Paul Newman and Bruce.
Willis is in it. Look at that.
Jessica Tandy from 1994.
Watch it before the next episode.
These episodes come out every two weeks, but since this episode came late, the next
