Episode Date: July 10, 2026

A lonely night guard at a storm-battered anthropology museum hears stories whispered from the ancient artifacts—but one voice, buried inside a colossal Olmec head, is louder and darker than all the ...rest. As the “thunder” outside grows closer, Alberto realizes it isn’t a storm at all…it’s the body of an ancient stone god coming to reclaim its head. Starting point is 00:00:57 Here we go. Someone's already claiming this is our year. Someone else said that last year too. A round of Jameson, ginger, and lime arrives at the table. Smooth enough for kickoff, smooth enough for extra time. New friends pulling up a stool. Debates about whether that was a handball.
Starting point is 00:01:14 Cheers rising like a roar around the room. Because match days are about the shared moments. Added Jameson to your match day lineup. Jameson, it's what you bring. Please enjoy our products responsibly. What? Oh. Who the devil is calling at this hour, dear?
Starting point is 00:01:39 Go back to sleep. Reginald, is that you? Are you aware of the time? Yes, sir. What makes you think you can disturb me at home, eh? And you've gone and woken my wife as well. Yes, sir. I'm sorry, sir, but there's a problem at the museum.
Starting point is 00:02:10 What sort of problem? Colin, is something wrong? Just a museum business. Go back to sleep. Wait a moment, Reginald. Deep breaths, dear. You know how your temper gets when dealing with them. Bha.
Starting point is 00:02:32 Go on then, Reginald. What's happened? Some sort of plumbing emergency? Oh, no, sir. Actually, it's an episode. Since when has Ereus ever acted right? Ladies' room while I was working, shouting like I've never heard him.
Starting point is 00:03:07 Something about, about old powers of running out of time and about a bloody reckoning. So? Sounds like a bunch of bullocks. He asked me where we keep the biggest ladders. And now I think, I think he's taking some of the objects out of their display cases. He's got some mad plan he's doing. He's what? And he keeps shouting about that big stone head, you know? The one in the amazing, American wing. He says someone's coming to take the head away, I think.
Starting point is 00:03:45 Fat chance of that! The Olmec head weighs 25 tons, but I suppose... Hmm. Given his wobbly mind and his position at the museum, Reyes would be the perfect to recruit for those goddamn cultural terrorist groups, wouldn't he? The ones hell bent on returning so-called stolen artifacts to the third world shit-world where they came from. But if someone is planning on robbing the place and he's helping, I swear to God. I think it's anything like that, sir. He hears voices sometimes, see.
Starting point is 00:04:28 It's help, sir. Maybe you'd know who we can call Victor, maybe. I know his mama died a couple years back, but... Or should I just go ahead and call an ambulance? No need for all that. I'll deal with it myself. Just wait for it. me. I'm leaving now. And don't let that psycho out of your sight, Reginald, if you value your
Starting point is 00:05:01 job. Utter nonsense this. Do other museum directors have to rush out in the pouring rain at midnight no less? To deal with ranting good-for-nothings? Surely not. Just my damned luck. Hmm. One would think they could at least be trusted to watch a few monitors and mop the floors without causing mayhem, but no. Oh. Advise to say indoors, as the unexpected storm front has already caused reported flooding throughout the region. With ocean winds of up to 100 miles per hour converging along the eastern seaboard. And of course, we're not alone in having rough weather tonight.
Starting point is 00:05:45 The last 24 hours have had the world's meteorologists scratching their heads. Earthquakes in the Pacific, volcanic activity in the Canary Islands, hailstorms in the Sahara. Who knows what's coming next? In other news, they're now saying that a damaged undersea transatlantic cable is to blame for the rampant connection issues reported this past week and that... Bunch of Bullocks! Why are the at atrium lights on at this infernal hour? Do they think electricity is free?
Starting point is 00:06:17 Ideos. This ladder is heavy. Red should help. But he doesn't understand. He doesn't know what's coming. He doesn't know I have to hurry. That everything depends on it. You'd better have a damn good explanation for all of this. Huh? Mr. Izer? No, no, no. I don't like Mr. Izer, but I can't let him get in my way now.
Starting point is 00:06:47 I got to focus. I got to do this. Why have you brought that ladder in here? And why are the lights on? What is all this? Some half-assed robbery attempt? A protest of some kind? No, no.
Starting point is 00:07:01 We're not taking something out. We're inviting something in. Yes. The body has been crawling along the seafloor, trying to let the earth guide it where it needs to go. And it's close now. But it needs to know exactly where to find the head. And its only sense is touch.
Starting point is 00:07:18 That's why I'm going to signal it with vibration. That's my plan. A good plan. I'll just ring the bell. It'll feel the vibration of the bell, and it'll come inside. Ring the Ming Dynasty Temple bell? Certainly not.
Starting point is 00:07:32 It's hundreds of years old, and it's for display only. And what is all this about a body outside? I know, I know. I'm trying, okay? I'm trying to get you a signal. Okay, then I'll be. It's ready. Just climb, just climb. Oh, I don't like heights. Oh, no, you don't. Get down, you idiot. Don't shake it. Get down. Now I gotta get back on.
Starting point is 00:08:05 I have to signal the body. Hurricon must be made whole again. He must be out there when the others arise. He can guide them. Don't you see that? Otherwise, some other crust walker will lead the charge, and they'll destroy everything. Don't you ever shut up.
Starting point is 00:08:21 Get off me. You empty-headed animal. You useless, petulant, stupid, stupid man. Get a hold of yourself. Hey, Mr. Eiser, sir. What do you? Let go of him, sir. There's no need for all that.
Starting point is 00:08:41 He doesn't want things to change, Reg. He's part of it, Reg. The Dark Forces, he's a villain. He's trying to stop me from doing my job. I gotta work. I got to work. Oh, I'm so good at my work. C.C.
Starting point is 00:08:57 Because I can hold a flashlight and walk around in fucking circles. Stop it, Mr. Izer, please. Quiet, Reginald. Let go of Alby. Get your filthy hands off me. How dare you, Reginald? Have you no respect?
Starting point is 00:09:18 Oh, not good, not good. This can't happen. I can't let it. My name ain't even Reginald. Almost midnight. The summer solstice. That's when the reckoning begins. It'll be too late.
Starting point is 00:09:30 My name is Reg, just Reg. Oh, wait, where'd I put that dagger? And Alby's right. You, Mr. Iser, can go to hell. Aha! Got it! Reyes! Stay back, Mr. Iser.
Starting point is 00:09:47 Or I'll, I'll stab you. I will. I'll kill you. Albi, no. What are you doing, man? Why you got a knife? I took it from the Japan display to cut the rope up there, see?
Starting point is 00:10:00 So that hanging ram there swings and strikes the bell. That's how it works. And I also might need the dagger for, for protection against the dark forces that want me to stop. Protection? More like aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Tell him, Reginald. Tell him to put it down before someone gets hurt.
Starting point is 00:10:22 I said stand back. I have to do this. The giants, the old powers, the old ways. They've been called back. They're coming back soon. Now, it's happening. See? Don't you hear that?
Starting point is 00:10:38 It's him. He needs my help. Him who? The thunder? What's he blabbering about? It's not thunder. It's the headless body of an ancient giant, pounding its fists,
Starting point is 00:10:51 sending out a signal, and waiting for a signal back. Tell him, Reg. Tell him what I told you. Uh, well, Albi says that. Uh, that big stonehead has asked him to help. Uh, help save the world. That right, Alby?
Starting point is 00:11:08 You want to help. Help, not hurt. You don't want to hurt anybody. You don't want to hurt Reg, right? I, I don't want to hurt Reg. I like Reg. Even if Reg doesn't believe me. But the bell must be rung.
Starting point is 00:11:23 It must. I know! I'm trying! A few years ago, we decided. to launch no sleep coffee. Starting point is 00:12:57 for the Cadillac definition of luxury. Alme, it's okay. Breathe, man. Whatever the voices are telling you, you know that. That nothing good is gonna happen while you're holding a knife. Please, man.
Starting point is 00:13:13 Just hand it over. You help, though, right, Reg? Yeah, man. I'll help ya. Oh, okay, then. Here. There. Phew.
Starting point is 00:13:29 Thank you, Alby. You see, Mr. Izer, we all good now. No harm done. All good now? Ha ha ha. You're as dumb as he is, Reginald, if you believe that. Theft and damage of museum property. Threatening my life.
Starting point is 00:13:50 And it's all on the security cameras. Don't forget. And don't think I've forgotten your... forgotten your insubordination either Reginald. You want to fire me, fire me? But right now, I'm going to do what I said. I'm going to get Albi the help he needs. We need to ring the bell. What that bastard needs is to be locked away from civilized people. And give me that dagger before you break it. Reg, climb the ladder. Hurry. Just hang on a minute. Did you not hear me?
Starting point is 00:14:27 I gave you an order. The dagger, now! Calm down, man! Reg, ring the bell! The body's waiting. It's restless, angry! It's out of time! It's sir, not man. For God's sake.
Starting point is 00:14:43 This is what I get for hiring people like you two. It's so close. It's on the beach out there. It needs us. The old world needs us. Oh, can't you ever shut your mouth, you defective fucking moron! You both belong in one of these display cases. That's what I say. With the shitty little arrowheads and the ugly animal masks and the rest of the primitives garbage.
Starting point is 00:15:13 That's what it is, you know? The shit Alby here guards each night? Garbage! And beyond bringing in tickets, it serves only one purpose. to remind a civilized man of how far we've advanced, beyond the savagery of lesser fucking peoples. You know what? Fuck it.
Starting point is 00:15:35 Alby, hold that ladder steady, will you? I ain't afraid of heights. You wanted to ring the big-ass bell? Let's wake up the motherfucking city. Yes, yes, yes, yes! Fine! Ha! Ring the bell!
Starting point is 00:15:53 Break the bell! Smash every damn display in here! Insurance will cover the damages! Careful, careful. Good! Yes, cut the rope. This one? Yeah, yeah, yeah! Hurry! And you two idiots can share a cell together, like monkeys, in a cage.
Starting point is 00:16:13 Almost! There, and... Where you belong! Yes! Yes, damn that's loud. Eek, I feel it in my bones and my whole body. Awful, awful, and perfect. It'll sense that too, definitely.
Starting point is 00:16:34 Even the cars outside can feel it. Ha, we did it. Here it comes. Any second now. Where is it? I can't see out these windows. I can't see anything in the storm. Congrats you, too.
Starting point is 00:16:49 You gave us all tinnitus. And no doubt the neighbors will have. alerted the police already. Where is it? Hey, hey! All right, Alby, fun's over now. Don't hurt yourself hitting the glass. Come hold the ladder steady while I come down. Ring it again. What? Pull the rope, swing the ram. Reg has to strike the bell again. Do it. Alby, man, my ears can't take another one of them. Please, just one more time. It'll work. I, I, I, I, I, I, I promise. Okay, then.
Starting point is 00:17:28 Man, what you doing, Reg? Ah, shit. Now you're talking to yourself. Great. That's just great. Well, this'll be a hell of a story to tell to the guys. How'd you lose that museum job, Reg? Oh, you know.
Starting point is 00:17:46 Tried to summon an ancient giant with the Chinese bell as one does. Cover your ears! It worked! It worked! It worked! What? That? That's a bit of... It's thunder, surely. No, it isn't. I think... I think Albi might be right.
Starting point is 00:18:23 There's no lightning. Can't have thunder without lightning. There hasn't been no lightning. Well then, it's gotta be something else, fireworks or, or, or... It's the body of a Corborn, a crosswalker, a warden of the ancient earth. It's Hurricon! Look! Out there!
Starting point is 00:18:46 It's coming nearer! Holy shit! What is... A great shadow? What is this? What's the trick, eh? What's happening? We're in here!
Starting point is 00:19:02 Your head is in here! Hurry! Hurry! My God! Whatever that is, it looks over 50 feet tall. What could it possibly? Almi, get away from the windows, man! It's charging right at us! Get away from the fucking glass before...
Starting point is 00:19:26 ...museum! Whoa shit! It's gonna tear this place down. Heavens! That was, but it stopped moving. It's just standing there. I can't, I can't see. Reg, it's all red, I can't see.
Starting point is 00:20:01 Albi? Oh my God, Alby, your face, your eyes, they're all flashed up by the glass. You hear bleeding bad man and, oh, I think I broke my ankle. Eiser, can you move? Can you help Alby? This, this thing, it looks pretty fucking real to me. Damn, I'm sorry, Albie man. I thought, I thought, I was sure, but damn.
Starting point is 00:20:33 Why is it just standing there? What does it want? It's, it's head, I told you. We have to, uh, guide it to its head. In the America's wing, I have to get up. Nah, man, you ain't going nowhere unless it's in an ambulance. Do I call the military? Or, I mean, it clearly must be some sort of forgotten technology, an automation perhaps.
Starting point is 00:21:06 But the military would probably just destroy it, so I wonder, a better way? We have to guide it. Before it's too late, once the head is back on, it can leave. and meet with the others and begin. But then, why give it a head? If it's truly blind, it will be easier to manage this way, surely, much less dangerous. What?
Starting point is 00:21:34 No, no, that's all wrong. It can't be controlled and it can't be destroyed. It has to be made whole. It needs our help. I keep telling everyone that. They don't listen. He's... Oh, he's right, sir.
Starting point is 00:21:49 whatever this thing is, wherever or whenever it came from, we can't mess with it. Hell, look what it did did to the place already. Hmm, indeed. The museum is fucked, though perhaps this is an opportunity. If I can play my cards right. This episode is brought to you by L'Oreal Group. Beauty is a powerful force that moves us. Stumble around blindly?
Starting point is 00:23:29 Whatever sticky little connection your psychosis gave you with this thing. If that's how it worked, it doesn't matter anymore. That's all in the past. I'm focused on the future. But I won't let you either. It ain't right, Eiser. You ain't thinking straight. All this, it's messing with your head, with all our heads.
Starting point is 00:23:53 Mr. Eiser, you got a haunted look in your eyes. Is that right? Well, I think I can handle a crippled drunk and a blind idiot. And seeing as this thing seems to have conveniently knocked out all the cameras in here, I'd say it's as convenient a time as any to. End your employment here permanently. Now then, where did I see? Ah yes.
Starting point is 00:24:25 What was... Is that the dagger? The loco guard finally snapped. That's what I'll say. And stabbed the old janitor before slashing his own neck. Alby, he's walking toward you. Stop it, Eiser. I...
Starting point is 00:24:41 God damn ankle. It's like Albie said. There's dark forces at play. Stop it, Eiser. I don't like this. I can't see anything. I hear the squeaky shoes. Diosmio.
Starting point is 00:24:54 Albi? Where is... Uh, Reg, Huracon, someone, help me. Maybe I can
Starting point is 00:25:04 open your throat, then you'll finally shut the hell up. Ah! Bastard! Get off me! Run, Alby. I'll hold him down.
Starting point is 00:25:21 But, but I can't see. Find a way. And fast. I gave your job, you ungrateful. Get that thing to its head. I, I, I, okay, okay, got to run, got to move. Ah, feel along the wall. I know this place. Yes, I know the museum. I know the sounds. I have to listen. The Africa wing, the coward's drum. Yeah, yeah. Just got to follow the whispers. Get to the drum. Use its vibration. Ritch will be a
Starting point is 00:25:57 Okay, you'll be okay. Hurricon will save him once I save Hurricon. Okay, feel around, feel around. Where's the drum? Where is it? Dog, that is the rhythm of warning. I should have played. Gotcha!
Starting point is 00:26:17 Over here! Follow me here! It's working. It's working. Oh shit, it's working. Run, run, run. Next wing, next wing. Europe.
Starting point is 00:26:30 It's... This way I... I think, oh me, oh my, oh blue gooseberry pie, dost thou hear my bibles a jingling? For I was the hat of the king's own fool till the bored monarch sliced off his dingling. Oh, me, oh my. Shut the fuck up!
Starting point is 00:26:48 This way, hurry. I can do this. I can do this, I can do this. We're so close now, just a little further. Got a job to do. Got a good job. Important. Where is the last door?
Starting point is 00:27:08 Dios. There, yes. Yes, yes, yes. Huracon! Your body is here. But you have to be fast. Reg. He's...
Starting point is 00:27:19 Alberto? Oh, little one. Your eyes. Never mind my eyes. Just to hurry. I feel myself. Again. Yes.
Starting point is 00:27:32 Stand aside, little one. Make room for my colossal self. Yes. Now come, great hands. Seize our helmeted head once more. Lift. Yes. Set it upon our severed neck.
Starting point is 00:27:51 That at last, that was cleaved, may be rejoined. Stop struggling, Reginald. Fuck you, man! When I'm through with you, we'll need ten janitors to clean up the mess. That doesn't even make any sense. What is that? They're coming back, so I think that's what you call a reckoning. Ah, on my face again.
Starting point is 00:28:39 Ah, it talks now? Can you see them? Is Reg okay? I see them. Two little ones wrestling on the floor. Grab Eiser, no! The ugly one that smells bad. Put me down.
Starting point is 00:29:05 Sweet mercy! And hey up there, Alby! Cozy seat found you on that giant's shoulder. No, it's not cozy. It's rock. My butt hurts. But Reg is okay. Is Reg okay? Reg is still alive if that's what you mean. Reyes, Reyes, tell this thing to let me go. I pay your salary, Reyes. What shall we do with this one, hey, Almi? Break him. I, I, uh, oh.
Starting point is 00:29:42 Bollocks. Iser's bloody bits all over me. This shit's nasty, man. Aye, Dios, it's almost midnight. Will you? Will you be in time, Huracan, to round up the others and lead the charge? Hmm, yes, I think so. The others are finding their own heads, even now.
Starting point is 00:30:07 And already great hands have begun the dismantlement of industry in key places. Many little ones will die, yes. night in the war to come, crushed, starved, frozen, and drowned. It cannot be helped, but not all. I will make sure of that. Come. Wait? Albi, are you just going with him then? What about your injuries, man? Your eyes. I will be Alberto's eyes, and he will be my ears, for Alberto has a gift. He can hear the echo of the ancestor. our first allies through the haunted tales of their cherished objects. He will be important, yes, and so in you tomorrow, with some of yesterday's wisdom.
Starting point is 00:30:59 But is that what you want, Alby? I think, yes, yes it is. Maybe it's crazy. Maybe I'm crazy, but... But it's the kind of crazy the world needs. Gotta get a job, they say. Well, I got a job. I work for the stone giant.
Starting point is 00:31:19 I work for the earth. And I'm good at my job. Thanks for tuning in. If you enjoyed the story, be sure to follow or subscribe and share the show with a fellow horror fan. I'll see you in the next one. Hey, y'all. It's Kelly Clarkson with Wayfair.
