Starting point is 00:00:00 Yes, sir, it's the Scott Horton show brought to you by expat money. That's expatmoney.com slash Scott. Ladies and gentlemen of the press have been less than honest reporting to the American people. What's going on in this country? It's the babies I'm anxious. We're dealing with Hitler revisited. This is the Scott Horton show. Libertarian foreign policy, mostly.
Starting point is 00:00:28 When the president visit, that means that it is not only... We're going to take out seven countries in five years. They don't know what the fuck they're doing. Negotiate now. End this war. And now, here's your host, Scott Horton. All right, you guys, introducing Rich Barris. He is the People's Pundit and Holster.
Starting point is 00:00:54 And let me see if I can ever get this straight. I never do it, right? But here it is. Here's his YouTube there, the People's Pundit. And from what I gather, Rich, first of all, welcome the show. They say you have a very good reputation for calling election results before they come in, which would make you very unique in the last few election cycles. Is that right?
Starting point is 00:01:20 That is. I'll take it. And thanks for having me, Scott. I appreciate it. Yeah, absolutely. And so your organization is called Big Data Poll. Data or Data? Which way do you prefer?
Starting point is 00:01:30 I usually say Big Data poll. Big data poll. Yeah. And then the author of Burn It Down, What the Polls Say Young Americans Really Want, co-authored with Joshua Lysak. Is that my saying that right? You are. That's perfect.
Starting point is 00:01:46 That's right. And it came out the other day, brand new. It did. It did. I had a chance to look at the table of contents. And not much more, but I did also get to hear an interview of you on the Newt Gingrich show. It was funny. The way YouTube displayed it to me, it was just, it was glitching out.
Starting point is 00:02:08 So it said the Duran. And I was like, but that sounds like Newt Gingrich. Could Newt Gingrich be guest hosting on the Duran? And then he's interviewing you and I'm going, what am I listening to? And then it was funny because that was just on my phone. And then when I looked on my computer, it said it was the New Gingrich show. So yeah. Love the guys at the Duran, though.
Starting point is 00:02:30 Love those guys. Yeah, yeah, exactly. And I was like, I can't see them loving Newt Gingrich, though. So I don't know what relationship they could possibly have. But yeah, no, clearly that was just a Google video glitching on me there. Anyway, so I thought that was funny. I'm going to ask you some funny things about Nick Gingrich in a minute. Well, funny to me.
Starting point is 00:02:49 But first of all, my main question to you as author of the new book, Burn It Down, is the kids. Are they all right? I'll tell you what, Scott, they're more than all right. We're the ones who are not all right. I mean, this is, it's completely the opposite of what conservatives thought when they did well with them in 2024. Then we heard the usual platitudes and, you know, they start, this is how conservative, you know, talk works.
Starting point is 00:03:17 They start mimicking and echoing each other and even if what they're saying is not correct. They're, I love to say this, but it's true. These kids claim they're moderates and everyone thinks they're conservative because Trump did so much better with them. but the truth is they say they're moderates because they don't like labels. They're just rejecting both labels. I'm not a liberal. I'm not a conservative.
Starting point is 00:03:39 So if a pollster makes me choose, I'm moderate, but they're not. There's nothing moderate about their views at all. And honestly, at first, it may scare some of us who are in older generations, but the more you learn and the more you talk with them. And it's hard, it's hard to say their views aren't justified at the very least. and those of us who have come before these kids, especially as Zoomers. I'm a millennial, but I'm on the oldest part of a millennial. It could be Gen X, you know, in another time.
Starting point is 00:04:10 They keep shifting it. But I understand, even from being an older millennial, I understand their, I use this word, grievance that the right always calls like a bad word. grievances in our founding documents. These kids have grievances for a reason. And if we don't, it doesn't matter. It's like captured the flag. Scott, if they'll, they're all. chasing to get these votes, whomever gets them soon is going to rain for a long time. Because
Starting point is 00:04:36 boomers and certainly the silent gen, they'll be phased out of our electorate, the U.S. electorate, quicker than people realize. And that's the math we go over in the book. But whoever grabs those votes and they are up for grabs, they're the ones that they're going to have the ball. They're going to run the ball down that field. Well, look, I mean, even going back to when I was very young, high school, whatever, junior college type era, it was always so frustrating me. I think we even studied polls in one class or another and how survey techniques and sample sizes and how goofy it is to have a multiple choice for your opinion anyway and trying to cram an opinion into a multiple choice sort of frame and all that. Neil Postman writes
Starting point is 00:05:21 about that. But point being, though, is you know, one of the most obvious things to me was there's never enough choices on the poll. You get like a really in-depth, nuancedy one, then it'll have agree or agree strongly, disagree or disagree strongly. But how about like hate all these for reasons that I want to fill in the blank on? You know what I mean? Like you're saying, the only choices are left, right or moderate. But they don't have a choice to say, well, look, I'm not a progressive, I'm a leftist or I'm not a conservative, I'm more of a populist right winger, or I'm a libertarian, or I'm a centrist, but not a moderate, I'm a centrist extremist. I want to nuke Russia with
Starting point is 00:06:05 an apple bomb or, you know what I mean? Like these aren't the choices. Yeah, right? I'm a centrist extremist. Nothing moderate about me. I'm John McCain. I want to take over the world. You know, all those should be choices on the, on the thing. Do you try to, in your polls, give more choices or, you know, because I think probably the average guy who maybe doesn't think too much about this stuff, if you even gave him those choices before he had to answer, he got to hear four or five different kind of things other than just left, right and center. Yeah, we do. And I think about that.
Starting point is 00:06:42 Like, huh? You think you're, even in your question, you're defining left as to the left of progressive and progressive as to the left of liberal, I guess, or what, like, that can all be in the poll. You know what I mean? Yeah, that's a, it's been, I totally agree with what you're saying because we all got pigeonholed by we, you know, pollsters, survey researchers. We all got pigeonholed. And I'm not saying, I'm not like blaming Gallup for it. I love Gallup. I love George Gallup's vision and what he did. It's why why I do this. But it is true that a lot of us kind of follow the standards that Gallup and early, early survey researchers laid out for us. And even to this very day, when we look at exopoles for elections, they all have the same age. buckets. They have the same, you know, ideology questions. And over time, we all want to adapt to
Starting point is 00:07:31 that because we want to remain consistent and we want to be able to track those trends over time. But unfortunately, when, especially during periods of realignment, those are just not enough. So what we've done in the past, you know, a top issue question is a perfect example of this. What's your number one issue you're voting on? When a voter could clearly be going to the polls to vote on three issues, they're not going to not, voters aren't single issue voters. Now, one is typically more important, but it doesn't give you the full landscape of why people are making a rational policy choice that they are by asking them a single, multiple response, single choice question format. That's just not good enough. And we've done away.
Starting point is 00:08:07 We'll still show people that if we want to have an exercise, a fun little exercise. But ranked distributions we'll do now over that because it gives us a much better idea of what people are prioritizing. What's the overall environment? We call it like the mood of the electorate. And then we have, and I think this is important. A lot of pollsters, especially those who go on shows to talk like I do, they don't do this work anymore themselves, Scott, at all, at all. They hire a call center or they'll get a, maybe it's just done completely online.
Starting point is 00:08:39 Now if we text people, what we can do text to online or we can do peer to peer where we answer back and forth, these pollsters aren't doing that. They have agent after agent, some of it's AI now. and they're not interacting with voters the way that, for instance, George Gallup and his people did. I mean, these guys used to walk streets, people, with cards and queue interviewers, and it was really, really much more personal.
Starting point is 00:09:04 So we have not gotten rid of what we just call elaborated response. And at a certain point during the interview, we will ask people to further explain various question responses that they give. And I think I may be the only pollster who still does it. And I have a way, we always have this set up. I mean, we know what we're asking in a survey. Certain people say certain things.
Starting point is 00:09:26 And now when AI does this for us, to be honest, it's got to be perfectly honest. It alerts me and says, hey, you may want to talk to this person. So I still get on myself, even though sometimes it can be problematic because sometimes people recognize who you are, which is not good, but it happens.
Starting point is 00:09:41 But I'll jump on and I'll say, hey, you know, it's rich. I got passed over to you because you mentioned this. I want to dig a little bit more into this. And then we take all of that transcribed text and we analyze it. And I think that's what a lot of pollsters are missing. You know, the war was a great example of this. Yeah, I was going to say, if the polls say, do you approve or disapprove of the war,
Starting point is 00:10:06 people could say, I disapprove of it. But they're not saying there why they disapprove it. Maybe they're just men that Trump hasn't conscripted 16 million men in a World War II level effort to completely destroy Iranian civilization. forever yet. Or maybe they wish he hadn't had done this at all, you know? Yeah, I mean, that's exactly right. And also, you could mislead a president with a question that says, hey, would you support if Donald Trump took out Iran's nuclear sites, right? Would you support it if Donald Trump prevented Iran from getting a nuclear weapon? Would you support it if we attacked
Starting point is 00:10:41 the Iranian regime to defend Israel or something like that? You know, and the way the word, the wording of these questions is just ludicrous. But if you get, down into it and you ask people, would you support Donald Trump striking Iran's nuclear sites if it meant six months down the road, we're in a full out kinetic war that's going to spike your gas prices? I mean, it's just so much more than that. And that's what they missed. And I mean, the truth is a lot of times, this is totally intentional. And they're trying to mislead policymakers. They want them to do what they want to do. So the pollster crafts a question exactly designed to elicit the response that their think tank or their super PAC or their billionaire donor wants
Starting point is 00:11:23 to present to the president. And we did actually see quite a lot of that. And what the president was never told was they were never going to prioritize preventing Iran from getting a nuclear weapon that they're not even sure Iran even had since he told them he destroyed it six months ago if it meant rising gas prices. if it meant completely derailing the administration's domestic agenda and then just being completely consumed by foreign policy. That was never going to happen.
Starting point is 00:11:53 And unfortunately, the president was never told that. Or that's not true. He just wasn't told enough by enough people. And those voices who tried to got drowned out. Well, and he was getting conflicting signals too. I mean, I think the most egregious example was where CNN said, well, we pulled MAGA Republicans. Yes.
Starting point is 00:12:12 and they say 100% they still support Trump. But then that was just circular reasoning. Anyone who still says they support Trump says they support Trump. And then he came out the next thing. It goes, even CNN admits that 100% of the American people support me and my great decision to do this. And it's like, man, somebody really should be in terrible trouble for that. They knew what they were doing there, clearly.
Starting point is 00:12:38 And it's an audience of one. He was the schmuck they were lying to. we're all just a collateral damage out here. I remember that. I still remember exactly what I was doing when I saw that post go out. And my, you know, my jaw drops because, number one, you're right. I mean, obviously how you phrase it, you're making it out. You're asking people who identify as MAGA, which means these are Trump's strongest supporters,
Starting point is 00:13:02 whether or not they still stick with him. And that's not exactly an honest way to deliver that. number two, anytime I see a subgroup as big as MAGA in a poll, report 100% of anything, I'm highly suspect. I don't know a single question in my entire career, Scott, where I ever got a hundred percent return on a subgroup that large. It's they fudged it. I mean, I'm just going to openly say they had to have fudged it.
Starting point is 00:13:30 You can, it's just not how statistics works, guys. There's always one person who deviates. There's, oh, come on, or at least. The way they define it is someone who's a MAGA Republican is someone who says yes to the question, do you still support him? Maybe. Otherwise, you're not a MAGA Republican anymore. As long as you do that, you just define it in a circle and then you've got to, there's your number, you know.
Starting point is 00:13:51 But, yes, again, that's the same as lying. It is the same thing. No, right, exactly. And they know that. I mean, these guys who are hired by media, but, you know, by politicians, they've all been doing this long enough. They know exactly what they're doing. So now, tell us about your polls and what they say about the number. and especially what the young people say about the war and how they're reacting to all of this.
Starting point is 00:14:12 Well, unfortunately, for Republicans, as a few of us tried to warn, this was Trump's cut, because I think it's important to say first, preface this answer with the simple fact that Trump's coalition was not a regular Republican coalition. So they went in there governing and, you know, thinking about the views and all those polls we were just talking about, constantly focusing on what they are usually accustomed to being a coalition. that votes for them. And they basically ignored everybody else. And those people, we call all the winning parts
Starting point is 00:14:44 because the Republican coalition cannot win without all of those younger voters. And new MAGA, true new MAGA, we called in 24. Look, they were never going to be for this war. And the amount of gas lighting, nothing you were going to throw at them, was ever going to get them to change their mind and believe that Trump never made the promise
Starting point is 00:15:04 of not starting a new war in the Middle East. but even if you could do that, it didn't matter anyway. Because these voters voted for Trump precisely because he wasn't a typical Republican. And he ran on a totally different platform of a less obviously bullish or less hawkish. That's a more fair way to put it. Foreign policy. I mean, the slogan was America first. Otherwise, he wouldn't have gotten these votes.
Starting point is 00:15:26 And unfortunately, going into 24, if we asked people who did identify as MAGA, we would have seen that Zoomers who were voting for Trump were 55, 60 percent of them would say on MAGA, I'm America first. Millennials were even more. It was like two-thirds of them. Gen X, their majority, they just weren't as much. The only group who wasn't MAGA was a boomer, like a Fox boomer cop. They called themselves traditional Republicans.
Starting point is 00:15:54 Now, Scott, because of this war, the only group that still calls themselves MAGA is precisely the group who did him before, old white boomers who watch. Fox News and everybody else has, they're gone. They're gone. They, they, the war has forced what we call like a purification through subtraction. So sure, you're going to get more united views with the people who still support Trump because there are so few of them now. I mean, I'm just being real.
Starting point is 00:16:23 Hey guys, me here for crowd health at join crowdhealth. Dot com slash Horton. And what it is is, is it's a replacement for insurance. It's not insurance. It's crowdsourcing instead. And who could possibly afford insurance at these prices in this day and age? It makes no sense. But what this is is it's crowdsourcing.
Starting point is 00:16:42 You help pay for other people's medical bills and they help pay for yours. And it really works. You pay the first 500 of whatever you're doing up front in cash. And anything over that, you bill it to the group and they help you pay. And then when it's somebody else's turn, you chip in a fair amount to pay for them. and it's all for a low monthly subscription fee, and it's totally a great deal. And I highly encourage you to check it out
Starting point is 00:17:07 at join crowdhealth.com slash Horton. Mmm, Moondos artisan coffees. Explicitly, Scott Horton Show flavored coffee. From Moondos Artisan coffees, get it, they hate Starbucks because Starbucks supports the war party. But Moondos Artisan coffees, they support peace. And so here you go. Scott Horton's,
Starting point is 00:17:33 show flavored coffee. It's part Sumatran and part Ethiopian, all mixed together and tastes so good in the morning and also in the mid-afternoon if you start getting sleepy. Scott Horton.org slash coffee. Get you some.
Starting point is 00:17:50 Hey look guys, Scott Horton's show and Scott Horton Academy swag. Just look at the YouTube channel there and under every video there's links to all the stuff. Break it down for us like, you know, ballpark. If you break down like the the age groups, and he's gone from what percent to what percent?
Starting point is 00:18:08 So in the spring of 2025, let's say right before the Doge, you know, went off the rails, and it basically got replaced by lobbying for Operation Midnight Hammer. His approval rating among people under 40 was still about 60 percent. And that's insane for a Republican president. Today, if we look at 18 to 29-year-olds, he's about at 30 percent. Other polls are worse than us, but he's about at 30. Even among millennials who have held on much longer than Zoomers, he's still in the 30s. Ironically, Gen X is his strongest as far as generational goes, and that is over 45 to 62,
Starting point is 00:18:49 because Boomer starts at 62. He's still the strongest with them, but even he's underwater with them now, too. He's about at 40%. And all of the older voters that they focused on, and I mean, I'm telling you, I spoke to them. I know they cared about them because they were. were worried it was a midterm coming up and older voters vote. So they really did address everything that they looked at and, you know, policy decisions that they made. They did look through a lens like that. And even they aren't, aren't with Donald Trump anymore. Even they disapprove of him by
Starting point is 00:19:21 15, 16 points on any given poll. And overall, I mean, he's underwater 20 points. And I know other polls have it worse. But right now, we're reaching the point where it's almost on recovery. I mean, that's unfortunately where we got. Before the war, it was still recoverable. He was having some problems, but it's, I believe if you would have pivoted back to the domestic front and actually cared about what people were saying they cared about, optics matter. You don't even have to achieve everything you're trying you're set out to achieve. But as long as people think you're focused on their needs and you're trying to be their champion, they'll stick with you. But they abandoned that. And they just get consumed by foreign policy, which the voters are screaming at the top of their lungs not to do. And he, you he's underwater with everybody. I mean, the biggest net negative swing, I'll just say this, was Zoomers, a negative 35 point swing from when he was elected, which is what I wrote about in the op-ed in Real Clear Politics.
Starting point is 00:20:16 Like, look, here are the numbers. Negative 35 with 18 to 29, negative 33 with 30 to 45. I mean, what else do you need? He's negative everywhere. It's not because it's popular or this was smart. It was a foolish mistake. All right.
Starting point is 00:20:30 Now, I mean, definitely in a, four-year presidential election season, this kind of thing is going to have a lot of down-ballot type effects and that kind of deal. But in an off-year election where it's a congressional election, you know, for the House and a third of the Senate, or turnout is much lower anyway. The obvious thing, right, it's not a bunch of Republicans switching and voting Democrat, but just staying home. and then there's the question of how energized the Democrats are
Starting point is 00:21:03 and also how willing a swing voter is to vote for a Democrat. I'm a very bad bellwethered this because I'm a libertarian. I don't vote at all, but I've never been more angry at Donald Trump and his party and they deserve to be punished, no different than if he's W. Bush right now in the worst way. On the other hand, the idea of Democrats coming to power in Texas and or America, I don't know, ever again, it's just a nightmare beyond belief to me right now.
Starting point is 00:21:36 You know what I mean? These people might as well just burn Waco yesterday. I just hate them so much. And so I wonder whether they, the Democrats are even in any position to benefit from the horror show that is the Trump administration and the greater Republican Party right now. Yeah, what I worry about is that, you know,
Starting point is 00:21:57 they do go on to win. and more because of the reasons you just laid out, and they take it as an affirmation of their views. Like we watched Republicans do in the midterms with Barack Obama. And then Barack Obama, of course, he would win re-election still kind of easily. But in those midterms, Republicans took those victories as affirmations when what really happened
Starting point is 00:22:19 was that Democrats, maybe some of them were disappointed, but they were also, it was a different era, and the coalitions, it was a completely different aligned coalition. and he couldn't get some of his voters to vote in a midterm elections. It was just a matter of people staying home. This is different where, and it's different for a reason. I mean, so many of Obama's working class voters, white and non-white, are now Trump voters from 24. They were always, Republicans, they didn't understand this.
Starting point is 00:22:46 They just couldn't get it through their heads. They started from a handicapped position the night Donald Trump won the election. And I mean that by Democrats have more high reliability. voters. So they're a higher propensity and they're more reliable. They're more educated. They'll go mountain vote in a midterm cycle, whereas your average working class Trump voter comes out in a presidential cycle for Donald Trump and is very difficult to get out any other time. And by the way, that's why, you know, we look and we see did better with women in 24. Well, he really didn't. He just got other women who don't traditionally vote to vote and it changed the margin. That's what really
Starting point is 00:23:23 happened there. Most mind changers, people actually change their mind, were millennial men, people who were born in the 80s. But again, for Republicans, they needed to understand on election night that you have to now, your number one priority, is to go turn them into reliable voters. By the way, a great way to do that would not be starting a stupid unpopular war that they do not like. I mean, they absolutely loathe the war machine because they feel like that is what has been taking away from their government addressing their needs for as long as they have been alive, Scott. I mean, literally, that's because it's true. Again, I mean, they think that and they believe that because it is true.
Starting point is 00:24:01 And they didn't do that. So here we are now and they face two real problems. One is their voters don't want to vote. Even some who still, like you said, they're not prepared to vote for Democrats. They're not, you know, that that's not really happening in huge numbers, but they just can't get them out. And they are even having a problem with reliable Republicans. They don't want to tell you that publicly, but it is true.
Starting point is 00:24:22 About one in five, reliable Republicans are telling pollsters that they don't want to vote. And the problem with that is that's a totally separate group than the people I was just talking about. So you could be looking up to like a third of what Republicans would need or would try to target to get out. You're looking at like a third of them, Scott, not showing up. I mean, that's a disaster. And we've seen that happen to parties before. It happened to Barack Obama in 2010. But there is some.
Starting point is 00:24:48 There are some. It's really better. You know, in Georgia we just put the poll out yesterday. It's not happening across the board. But John Alsoff is winning 15% of Trump's 24. vote. I mean, that's a bit of a disaster for them. I'm not asking, but also, I mean, I know that how do you break it down? There's 435 house seats. How many of those are just safe, locked up, I mean, or, you know, on the, not even the average year, but just whatever. I don't know exactly how you,
Starting point is 00:25:14 how to categorize it, where it's just virtually always safe. And then there's only this many that are swing. And then what percentage of those swing you think are going to go Democrat? That's a great question, because that is the, you know, the argument. people have been having is that normal year. There's just so many safe seats, you know, incumbents don't get thrown out. And of course, they're drawn in a deeply red or deeply blue districts. On the Democratic side, oh, and then the reason why it's becoming an issue, let me just obviously gerrymandering and redistricting. The Republicans tried to build a bigger firewall this year. And they did. I think they probably saved themselves if they were to lose the popular vote,
Starting point is 00:25:51 the House popular vote by about four points. They could still keep the House. But that is not going to happen. I'm just telling, I mean, of course, there's a possibility for everything, but they're in a lot of trouble. And just to give it solid numbers, right now, there's about 186 on the Democratic side, I'd say, that are safe. They just wouldn't flip. On the Republican side, it used to be about 183, but this environment is getting so bad. Everybody has been forced to readjust what is a safe Republican seat. So I would put that number now, probably 175, which leaves the rest, either what we call likely to lean in an environment like this, though, Scott, the problem Republicans are going to have, they know they have this problem, is that all these cute
Starting point is 00:26:39 little ratings that election modelers like me slap on different races in waves just fall away, you know, and things just start to go that you didn't realize we're going to go. Maybe you rated a district Trump won by 15 points. as a likely or safe seat, and there's a 17-point swing in that district. It happens. And we sometimes forget going into these elections that every single time, a wave or,
Starting point is 00:27:04 I don't want to say, you know, we'll see if it's a wave or a tsunami or just a pro year for one or the other. It is looking more like a blue tsunami at this point. But every year that we have these, we always look back on Wednesday morning and say, oh my God, look who was defeated. Nobody saw that coming.
Starting point is 00:27:20 So I just, I always just chuckle at the, level of certainty that so many of these guys in my business put on their commentary when they know full well that a lot of these areas that they think are safe right now are not safe. Yeah. Well, and yeah, I mean, the wars. In the war first years, they were able to sell like, look, this war's going to be free. The oil's going to pay for it. You're going to get a dividend refund check from the IRS going to pay an extra $300 bonus
Starting point is 00:27:48 as your share of the profit of the war, which is, of course, a complete hoax and money printed out of nothing everything. But that was how they sold it. But right now, this is just obviously at everyone's in America's expense. And on behalf of these foreign countries, Ukraine and Israel now, and it could be whoever else you're going to be backing for a while and then turning on al-Qaeda in Syria and, you know, other, who knows what. And so it's just the most obvious thing in the world to be sacrificed. Or you're saying, what, we're going to have to have a big austerity program and all the poorest and oldest ladies in the hospital get their aid cut first so that we can keep helping Israel kill Palestinians
Starting point is 00:28:30 and stealing their property. I mean, I don't know how anywhere on the political spectrum is supposed to buy into that when it's a $40 trillion debt and all of this stuff, people reacting so hard. And this is underlying, you know, I've watched a few of your different interviews on YouTube and whatever I've been following you on Twitter for a while. And I just see this in the political discussion,
Starting point is 00:28:51 everywhere is they call it affordability. But what they're talking about is price inflation. Yep. And what that means is the devaluing of the money. Now, we have an increased price of diesel because of constriction in supply there because of the stupid war, which just makes prices higher. That's not exactly inflation. But we have monetary inflation and then therefore a massive price inflation.
Starting point is 00:29:18 And that's what everybody's screaming about. That was why everybody was. why everybody was mad at Trump before and helped to get him thrown out back in 2020 is the same thing that happened to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris four years later. It's the same reason people are mad at Trump now. Only, of course, Trump's policy is to threaten every Fed chair that you better print more money or I'm going to put somebody else in there who will. And it's funny because they just went ahead and raised the federal funds rate of quarter point anyway,
Starting point is 00:29:46 but like over his dead body, right? And so that's the thing that no one will talk about because that's the engine of the entire national government and the world empire is the national government's ability to go into debt and then print money to buy up their own debt. And so that's not getting solved, which means people can't afford a house, people can't afford to eat. There was the famous thing from the agriculture lady
Starting point is 00:30:13 in an interview with what's his name, the Republican influencer Benny Johnson saying, if you can't afford beef, just eat chicken. That was outrageous. We're just all supposed to lower our standard of living for Israel. I'm stunned by the discipline of Democrats who were losing their minds every day. It was something new every day in the first Trump administration. And then, of course, even when you could tell it looked like Donald Trump wanted to make a comeback.
Starting point is 00:30:41 And they changed after they lost in 24. And now we're watching the right. That's a great example of this. just commit suicide. Democrats aren't inflicting these wounds. These are all self-inflicted wounds. They're captured by a lobby. Let's just be real.
Starting point is 00:30:59 They're captured by a lobby. They're incapable of making decisions that every single one of their pollsters and analysts tells them is going to be an unpopular decision. If you followed me on Twitter, you've seen over a year now. I spent last Christmas,
Starting point is 00:31:12 it's going to, I'm hoping I don't have to spend this Christmas Eve or this Christmas doing the same thing, but I spent last Christmas Eve defending myself against Mark Levin because I was one of the first people to explain to the right, though you have an Israel problem. They have too much money in this party, and guess what? Your voters don't even like Israel anymore, right? This is not the Republican Party of Mitt Romney in 2012. This is not the Republican Party of Bush. It's over. That's over. The people that have
Starting point is 00:31:38 voted for you. You didn't at first, honestly, Scott, it's not like a lot of these people sit around I'm thinking about Israel. They were forced to think about it because for the younger generation, a genocide was thrown in their face on TikTok every day. And by the way, we pulled that question, which a lot of people didn't like. And we did it because we wanted to show people
Starting point is 00:31:59 how younger, even right-wingers, view Israel. And by 18 to 29-year-old MAGA was like genocide plus 11 in Gaza. I mean, when you're losing your own vote like that on what is supposed to be your key ally that you have to give unconditional support to and they come along in the spring of the president's first year. I mean, they interrupted his honeymoon period.
Starting point is 00:32:24 While he's doing all of the domestic policy, the lobby waltzes in the town, demands that he does everything they want him to do. And voters, you've got to suck it up. If you don't, you're anti-Semitic, that was never going to fly. And by the way, you know, how many months later, after that night,
Starting point is 00:32:40 how many months later did we see Gallup and Pew and all the rest of them come out with the same data. And it was showing for the first time that people actually sympathize more with the Palestinians than they do with Israel. Israel is a political pariah in this country now. I don't know. They're never going to forgive them for what they've done. Let me make this as clear as I can because I really think I don't do this enough.
Starting point is 00:33:04 Young MAGA and the people who are under 50 who voted for Donald Trump will never ever forgive Israel for what they have done. They view Donald Trump and J.D. Vance is their last chance. And you took that last chance from them. They're going to, they didn't care one way about you at all. All right? That's what I would tell the Israel lobby. You made yourself an issue to that. And they're not anti-Semitic for it. You're selfish. And they're going to punish you for the rest of your natural life for it. So good luck. And by the way, I've even read internal government studies from the state of Israel. They know this is true. And they made the decision to do this anyway, because they made the decision to just push forward while we have Trump and get as much as we can and to hell with everybody else in America, who has
Starting point is 00:33:51 been very good to us and treated us incredibly generous. So now you're on your own. When Trump is gone, you're on your own in a really hostile part of the world. Good luck, because the Democrats, the DSA is going to win and they're going to throw all of the APEC supporters out. You're going to have maybe 20% of the Republican Party. Good luck. luck with that. I hope you're proud of yourselves. And thanks for inflicting communists who are good on one thing is from Palestine on the rest of us over this issue because it is that dire of an emergency that people are willing to make that compromise. Starting point is 00:35:42 at Scott Horton's show.com, then you get all the shows a day early and without ads. Pretty good, right? Scott Horton Show.com. But then, so let me ask you, though, because that's final question here. I mean, what you say is indicative
Starting point is 00:35:58 of a great crackup coming because, as we see in the Democratic Party as well and to a greater extent, it's simply the owners of the party versus the voters of it. Yeah. And, you know, especially as you're saying in a generational sense on the right, the right-wing baby boomers are still on board for the, you know, Dick Cheney policy here, but the rest of the right is over it.
Starting point is 00:36:22 And the, like virtually every Democratic voter in America is over it. But the owners of the Democratic Party, the people who fund it to, and Republicans too, to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars. absolutely indispensable dollars. Well, they're Zionists. And so how's that going to play out? You think just the commie's going to keep winning and just drive them out and there's nothing they can do about it?
Starting point is 00:36:48 I do. On the left, I expected it now to, I expect that'll happen first. I thought the right was basically taking ownership of their own, you know, their own path that they were going to carve and others would just have to play nice and just accept it and be happy they have a seat at the table. unfortunately they tore that down so the left they're going to beat the right to the punch on this
Starting point is 00:37:10 because ultimately the voters when you don't meet their needs they have a way of forcing change and that's the second part of the the second part of the book Scott burn it down it's like in America we have this like false sense of security or something that what has happened in another country
Starting point is 00:37:26 countries when you don't meet your own people's needs can't happen here somehow the constitution is magically going to save us when the younger generation demands that they finally get their share. It's just not, it's folly, it's eubris. Of course that can happen here. I think it's going to, I think it is going to happen with Democrats first and the right has really our only chance to save it because Democrats will weaken, their establishment will give, they're not as strong as they used to be. And the DSA, the truth is, when we look at the polling, the DSA is the majority of the
Starting point is 00:38:03 party now. I mean, this just dawned on Republicans in the last six months. We have a tracker up where we ask people whether they identify with Democratic socialism or with socialism. It's been the majority of their party for years now, and it's increasing more and more. And that reason is because time, it forces change. Old people die. I mean, I'm not trying to be crude about it. It's just the reality. Even the older Democrats who are still okay with Zionism, they're not going to be around much longer. You know, yes, you'll have powerful families and wealthy money. they're going to lose. Because otherwise, they're going to be the kings of nothing.
Starting point is 00:38:38 They won't have a voting coalition. You need a voting coalition. And ultimately, if you don't meet people's needs, they take it from you. And that's what's going to happen if we don't square this up soon. It's funny. And a lot of people are like, I'm reading the book. I'm in chapter four. I'm terrified.
Starting point is 00:38:54 Well, good. You should be terrified. I mean, that's it. This was supposed to be the chance to turn it around. We blew it. So now the hour's late. what are we going to do? Yep.
Starting point is 00:39:05 Well, and I really couldn't agree with you more about the way you characterize, you know, I'm not even sure if you're exactly speaking for yourself, but just speaking for the results of the polls here that people feel like Israel has used and abused the good will of the American people. I mean, they lied us into Iraq War II. They're the same ones, and their lobby were the ones who pushed Obama to back al-Qaeda in Syria until it blew up into the Islamic State and then Iraq War III. That was the lobby again.
Starting point is 00:39:33 And here they forced Trump to cancel the Iran deal and then to pretend that there's an emergency over the civilian nuclear program there and dragged us into war on the heels of the massive genocide, killing children in front of our eyes and lying to us day and night for two and a half years, and then drag us into through lies again into another massive Middle Eastern war like this.
Starting point is 00:39:57 I mean, holy crap, it couldn't be worse. I mean... Well, we're going... Well, we're going broke and our people are, I can't afford to make ends meet. It's outrageous. And just to answer that, I mean, both. I mean, at this point, I'm speaking for both as a pollster. I always do try to just, you know, put my own, you try to park my own views and then, you know, convey public opinion.
Starting point is 00:40:18 But the truth is, if you're, I think, if you're a good pollster, they can have, Americans can change your views. Because it's very hard to interact with them and listen, again, to all these, they're just, grievances and we dismiss them. It's very hard to listen to people's struggling and disappointment. And that is really what it has come down to. It's like, yes, there are people who are angry at Donald Trump. There are a lot more who are disappointed. I mean, I was talking to another pollster friend about this. When was the last time any other public pollster could say they've heard suicidal ideations in interviews with voters? That's what we hear now. I've never heard a level of disappointment in the collective voice of America like I have now.
Starting point is 00:41:00 And again, when it comes down to the issue of Israel, I even did a video probably about six, eight months now. You know, I used to defend a lot of this stuff with Israel. Like, look, guys, I understand how you feel, but, you know, let's look at it from their point of view. I had to do a video, apologize. Because the American people made it very clear to me. I was wrong.
Starting point is 00:41:20 And I was wrong to defend them. They are that selfish. And they don't care about you at all. Sorry. I was, you know, Mio Copa, sister soldier, moving on. You know, I mean, sometimes you have to admit to people you were wrong. And I definitely was. Man, I hate to do this.
Starting point is 00:41:37 Can you elaborate a little bit on what you mean about the suicidal ideation there? I mean, the first thing I thought of when you said that was the aftermath of the crash of 08 and through 09 and into 10, you know, I did nothing about read the news all day. And I don't know if anybody was keeping track of the stats very well, but I could just see anecdotally, where dudes were killing their families and then themselves a lot. And it was because they were fired. And there was nowhere to go and no one to help them, as far as they knew anyway, they could get on at least some of the welfare the immigrants get, maybe.
Starting point is 00:42:12 But like, they don't even try. They just give up, blame themselves because they don't know that Mises explained that the business cycle is actually the national government's fault for printing money all day. And so people get, you know, to the depths of despair. I hate to point out that like, this is a boom time right now, you know. We have all this price inflation is part of the giant inflationary bubble. Just wait until the crash comes. Yeah, I know, which is what I sit here literally losing sleep over this.
Starting point is 00:42:47 Because what I mean by that is that we have young men in this country. and by young, I still mean working age in the middle of their life. You know, life expectancy is, you know, as risen from, you know, where it was a 100 years ago, maybe a 40-year-old man wasn't considered young back then, but comparatively it is now. We have young men 45 below in this country who feel like Donald Trump was it, their only hope that because the system just doesn't work anymore. And if Donald Trump can't do it, nobody can. and they're in a level of despair that I am deadly serious when I say suicidal ideations. There are people we interview who say, well, this is all worth it.
Starting point is 00:43:29 I'm just going to crash my car into a poll. I mean, this happens in polling. I've never seen this before, ever. So even during, well, I mean, I guess the financial crisis, I wonder, I could go back and look at that. But no, I mean, as far as modern polling in my career, which is 12 years in public now, never, I've never heard a level of desperation. Like I, and I think there's kind of a gross lack of appreciation
Starting point is 00:43:56 among people who are in the elected office, even the White House itself, on what these, what you meant to these people. And how this let down, this betrayal, because it is a betrayal. Let's give, let's just call it what it is. This betrayal, you can sit there with your slop and, you know, throw your bot attacks at everybody all day long. It's not going to fix it because you know you did this to them. And there's just no,
Starting point is 00:44:18 willingness or empathy at all, Scott, for these people. And it pisses me off, to be honest. You know, they just mock them or this one's a doomer, this one's a panicking. Everyone who has some kind of social following who is talking like that is trying to give a voice to very real people. And there are millions of them. And you're going to find out on November. I hate to tell you, but Wednesday morning, you're going to wake up and like, maybe
Starting point is 00:44:42 I should have listened. Yeah, God. We're so screwed either way, but worse than one. One way. Thanks very much for coming on the show, man. Everybody check out, Rich Beres. He is the People's Pundit. There is his YouTube channel where you can watch all of his YouTube's. And right now, go in support, man. Buy this guy's book. It's available on Kindle and Hardcover and Paperback right now on the Amazon. Burn it down. What the polls say, young Americans really want. Thanks very much again. Hey, thanks for having me. All the best.
