Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey there, everybody. Anna here, writer and director of Find Us Alive. We have some new patrons to thank. A special thank you to L, emotive remembrancer, Robert Stewart, that one art nerd, and sloth. Thank you so much for your support, you guys. We appreciate you enormously. Today's the day that we detonate the rift.
Starting point is 00:00:43 Today is the day that maybe, just maybe, we finally get out of here. We've collected whatever flammable substances we have, alcohol, chemicals, flares. The engineers have created a device to set it off. Containment and research have positioned it against the anomaly. in a couple of hours we'll see what happens I know I shouldn't be talking this way I'm getting ahead of myself
Starting point is 00:01:19 it's just an experiment and we don't know what's going to happen we don't know if it'll work but I can't stop thinking about seeing the sun again I wonder how much has changed since the shift what does the sight even look like now I'm picturing a big crater in the ground under our mine. They probably evacuated the town. Man, I can't wait to see the looks on their faces.
Starting point is 00:01:50 I don't know who I'm talking about. Overwatch command, I guess. The rest of the Ethics Committee, everybody at Sight-01. I don't want to sound petty, but part of me hopes they didn't believe in us. I was never a terribly ambitious person. It's been a long time since I've had. goals. I suppose I wanted to write a real code, to use my knowledge for something real. But working here, it takes something out of you. It takes something away from you. What would I do on the outside now? I'm officially acknowledged as a department head. I wrote a functional code that gets plenty of use. I finally received the recognition I've craved for so long. And yet, you know, Yet, here I sit.
Starting point is 00:02:49 Wondering why none of that worked. Most likely, I'll wind up wasting away in my office like everyone else does. I don't know the statistics for how many people in the foundation die every year. It's a pretty grisly amount, though. Enough to change people's career goals from succeed to survive. The lucky ones can even make it through without losing their minds. But there are multiple ways to lose your mind. Maybe you stare too deeply and too long into the yawning abyss.
Starting point is 00:03:28 Or maybe you stare too long at a computer screen. Completing a never-ending string of purposeless tasks in a series of days indistinguishable from one another. Attention fixed on a panel of blue light that you knows bad for your eyes, knowing you have no plans to see a doctor about it. At least we have monsters here to make things interesting. Hmm? What happens if this works?
Starting point is 00:04:07 If it works, we escape. Cool, cool, cool, cool. But what happens to us? They'll probably decommission the site, transfer us to other places. Right. Yeah, yeah. And like, I'm gonna be away anyway, field agent stuff.
Starting point is 00:04:35 They move us around. all over. Oh. Yeah, it'll be cool. Get to travel all over the world. See all kinds of crazy anomaly stuff. Cool. Maybe I'll fake my own death.
Starting point is 00:05:00 What? Yeah, the foundation sucks. And they don't know I'm alive. I could just fake it. Be one of the poor fucks who died in the shift. You could just quit, too. What? No, I can't.
Starting point is 00:05:12 Why not? Because I can't. I've always. It's, it. It's always been an uphill fight for me. And maybe that's why the foundation was so appealing to me, because I can work with things that are impossible to understand. And people, people who get left out in the cold.
Starting point is 00:05:39 Because I've been left out in the cold before. T-minus two hours. Before the shift, I was head of research. I was the most qualified rock scientist ever to grace this backwards mind shaft. and I did a great job. I was the best of the best when it came to making random objects disappear into the extra-dimensional hole in the wall.
Starting point is 00:06:03 I'm not sure what I'll do after. I don't know if I'll stay site director. I don't feel like I'm the prime choice, if I'm honest. Kind of hacking my way through this one. And I haven't done the worst job with it, but better quit while I'm ahead. you know? Smarter in the long run if I let it go to someone who knows what they're doing. Don't know if I'll be staying at 107 though. Don't know if there's even going to be a 107 to stay at.
Starting point is 00:06:41 We might be a crater after all once we get out. No, you can't. Yes, you can. They don't just let people quit. Everybody knows death is the only way out. Have you ever asked anyone about it? No. So nobody actually told you you're not allowed to quit. Well, when you're a field agent... What about when you're a field agent?
Starting point is 00:07:05 I don't know. Just forget it. We can talk to Shao about you quitting. No, it's whatever. Forget it. But you don't want to... Why do you want me to quit so bad, anyway? I don't want you to quit. I thought you wanted to quit. I don't want you to quit.
Starting point is 00:07:22 I don't know. I don't know if I want to quit or not. It's not so bad having you here. Okay, okay, okay. If you could do anything you wanted when we got out, what would it be? What would you do? Go back to work? I'm, I, I mean, I'm not going to pretend like I knew about anomalous stuff before the foundation, but I did feel it, I, I just always felt like the world wasn't telling me something.
Starting point is 00:08:02 And maybe part of that came from, you know, you know, getting kicked out as a kid, or maybe I saw something once or a few times and got amnesthetized. Or maybe I'm just making stuff up, because I want to feel special. Or, I am on the right track, and I was always meant to be right here. We haven't even been here that long. Feels like forever, but it's only been a few months. A fact which seriously impacts the likelihood. that the foundation has not yet gotten around
Starting point is 00:08:41 to selling all the stuff in my apartment. It also means I'll probably have to get a new fridge. It'll be easier than trying to clean out whatever's in there right now. And whatever it has become. But imagine we'd get to go out, look up with the sky, taste the fresh air, have our eyes damaged by the sun in all likelihood. I, for one, would welcome it.
Starting point is 00:09:09 I would happily trade it. I had a prescription adjustment for a few minutes in the sun right now. And to feel the wind, not just the air conditioning, and smell the dirt. And hear the birds in traffic outside your window in the morning. It's terrible. And I never thought that I'd miss it. So maybe Site 107 will get decommissioned. Maybe I won't get my old job back and they'll transfer me to another research position somewhere else.
Starting point is 00:09:37 Back to the grind, new scenery, same gig. But man, I would give an arm and a leg for any scenery at all at this point. Hell, I'd even go all the way to 19. I hear Siberia is nice this time of year. Whatever time that is. If we get out today, I'm going to buy my neighbor's crusty dog, a whole cheeseburger, and I'm going to wait until the rest of the day shifters go home, and I'm going to do donuts in the parking lot until they kick me out.
Starting point is 00:10:18 That's it? You'd just come back to work? What else would I do? You can't think of anything else you'd rather do with your life. I haven't done other things. You never gone on a vacation? Would you want to go out on a boat again? I've never been on a boat before. Fine, or gone to the beach, whatever.
Starting point is 00:10:40 Have you never been to the ocean? Radiger! You've got to be shitting me! You're obsessed with the ocean! What do you mean you've never been? I've never left Nevada. You've- Oh my god, that's what we're gonna do! Hmm? Yeah, when we get out! We'll get a shitty car and we'll drive until we hit the West Coast, someplace in California. No, wait, Washington or Oregon!
Starting point is 00:11:06 Why Washington or Oregon? I don't know, because it's not so bright. It rains a lot more, you wouldn't have to wear your sunglasses all the time. And the air's cleaner after it rains, so maybe it wouldn't need a mask either. Oh. There's foundation sites up there. There's one in Portland, I think. Maybe you could transfer there, and we could drive to the coast on the weekends when nobody's at the beach because it's raining.
Starting point is 00:11:27 We could get a sailboat. Yeah, on days when there's too many people around, we could just take a boat out into the middle of the ocean, where nobody could bother us. We could take dump truck. Yeah, because he floats! Maybe we could have a little beach jack to keep our boat stuff in. Like a catch fish, we could eat it for dinner. on the boat? I could get a big dog and run him around on the beach and tie a little bandana around his neck.
Starting point is 00:11:49 You could see whales. Or seals? Or navigate with the stars? Yeah. I can't believe I'm planning all this with you before I've even learned your first name. Ingrid. Ingrid? Yeah. That's so dorky. Oh.
Starting point is 00:12:14 I like it. It suits you. Ingrid. Can I take your memory? masking stuff off. Why? I want to see you. Nothing. You just look different than I expected.
Starting point is 00:12:48 Ten more minutes. Maybe I'll finally get a pet. Wait, wait. I have to I have to go to the bathroom for a second. Okay. Whatever weirdo. Ingrid. Nothing. Hurry back.
Starting point is 00:13:05 Yeah. Something weird. Like a lizard or a fairy. I shouldn't be getting my hopes up. We're almost there. Maybe I could... Hey, I have to tell you something. I have you telling you something.
Starting point is 00:13:19 Whoa, slow down. It's got you so excitable. Love? Why does your voice sound so clear? T-minus two minutes. I'll see you all on the other side. I can fix it. I can fix it.
Starting point is 00:13:36 I can fix it. Hurry up! You're gonna miss it! I won't miss it. You'd better run. They pushed the button. Hurry! I'm fine.
Starting point is 00:14:17 What happened? What happened? What happened? Most of the cameras shut off. Harley? Klein! What happened? Come in.
Starting point is 00:14:27 Are we sideways? Did we flip on? Harley, please respond. One of the cameras in BH9 is on. There's Klein. She's all right. Do we have the comm office? We've got Lancaster's office. Is he all right?
Starting point is 00:14:46 He's not there. Sightcom is down. Is anybody's walking making it through? No. No, everybody stays here. If we flip over again, I don't want any more people in the halls than necessary. If I can make it to the communications office, I can see if Harley's psychcom is still intact. The rest of you, listen to Masterson and stay in here.
Starting point is 00:15:13 I'm going to need some help, climbing all the way up to the door. Lancaster might have already gone to check on Harley. I'm going to. What's all that? Ropes. Nice! You remember the Bowlin knot? Sure do.
Starting point is 00:15:25 Are we tying? ourselves together? Yes. What about dump truck? Will we safer in here? Probably, yeah. Jesus, that's a long fall. Up or down? Down. Come in, Harley. Damn it! Someone hurry. Are you in there? Happened in here. Landcaster, what were you doing? Fucking shit. Fuck. I'm stuck. Hello? Help. Jammed.
Starting point is 00:17:19 Lank, thank God. I think I can... Can't move it. It's too heavy. Could you help get it off? I'm really not joking here. Okay, hang on, just a second. I want to try something.
Starting point is 00:17:42 All right? I can fix it. Yeah. You move the filing cabinet. No, the memetic effect. What? Lank? Also.
Starting point is 00:17:57 Lankester, was that a knife? It's a scalpel. Okay, wait, wait. What are you, what are you doing with you? I just have to try something out. It's gonna confirm my theory. No, listen. Whatever your theory is, you don't have to. No, no, you don't understand. It worked for me. Look at this.
Starting point is 00:18:16 Is that? It's a dash one. How long has that been there? Since the night game, it formed after one of those ants bit. We should talk to someone else first. A third part. No, it works. Everybody just needs to get one. What?
Starting point is 00:18:27 No, no, no, don't! It doesn't hurt. Stop! Okay, see, you're making you works. Just hold still. Lancaster. Orion. Listen to me.
Starting point is 00:18:39 Please don't do this. I'm kind of in the middle of something in here. Help! Help me! Put the knife down, Lancaster. What the fuck! No, I'm almost done. I'll be just a few minutes.
Starting point is 00:18:56 I found the animorphic dash one in your office link. The what? It was on the wall behind the door. Out of view of the camera. I knew it. Of course. Of course. But I figured it.
Starting point is 00:19:08 out how to fix everybody. I knew it was you. You need to drop the fucking scalpel before you say another word. Can someone get him off of me? No, it's fine. I know what I'm doing. What the fuck is on your leg? Nothing we can't remove. Come again? Love, get the knife. You're pleading. Yeah, I know. I just let me try it. Just let me try it. I promise. I promise it'll work. I've got my own theory to test first. Hold him down. Get his feet. Got it. We have to get that off your leg. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. 27 was written and produced by Anna McGuire.
