Starting point is 00:00:00 Greetings and hello, Find Us Alive listeners. It's me, Anna, writer and director, and podcast finisher. This is the second to last episode of Find Us Alive. And we are sending off the finale with a big live streamed event on August 7th at 4 p.m. Mountain Standard Time on our YouTube channel, Hodgepodge Audio. We will all be watching the live premiere of the final episode altogether with the main cast and as many of the side characters as we can get. There will be discussion, Q&A, and some extra surprises to thank you all for coming on this amazing journey with us. Also, we have some new patrons to thank.
Starting point is 00:00:38 A big special thanks to Zazez, The Curation Collective, Blue Eye, Daryl Schnell, Knox Ender, Elise, Arthur Kornack, Toll, Delta, and NHBHBH. Thank you all for listening and supporting the show. We couldn't do what we do without you. If you want to hear your name at the start of a Hodgepodge episode or get other cool things like merch, free episodes and more, consider supporting us on patreon.com slash hodgepodge audio. That's patreon.com slash hodgepodge audio. Thank you so much and enjoy the episode. Good evening, Overwatch Command. I'm sure at this point I need not introduce myself. I believe it is in both our best interest for us to have a good long chat. Anyone who's listening, and I know someone is. I will say,
Starting point is 00:01:39 Only that the staff of former Site 107 are alive, and we are, perhaps, most importantly, sane, and we want to talk. To be more specific, I, Dr. Harley, on behalf of all of us, wish to meet with representatives of Site01 in person. We wish to discuss the terms of our survival. We wish to discuss the terms of our establishment's continued existence. We wish to discuss what we have to offer in keeping the world intact. I await your response. Should I fail to receive one, I will continue trying until I do. You've played this game before.
Starting point is 00:02:24 I don't need to tell you how it works. Until then, Overwatch Command! I'll be listening. I'm done. It's in their hands now. I am going to wait for a response, And when my shift is over, I'll switch out with Evans from security. I'm gonna wait in a way that certain kinds of doctors would approve of? Yes.
Starting point is 00:03:25 Doctors? No. What are you doing down the hall? I would hate to pull you away if you're needed elsewhere. From one large plastic container to several much smaller plastic containers. Is there any possibility you could bring some of that work over here? I mean, let me see if I can get a rolling card to move there. Give us a day.
Starting point is 00:03:58 Cordell! Oh, oh my God! Are you all right? I want 24 hours before they decide if they're going to call off the termination order. Tell me if you're okay. Well was transferred and I don't know where he is. If I'm being honest, I didn't expect it to be you. I thought they would have confiscated your equipment and given it to someone else.
Starting point is 00:04:28 I have rapport with you. Ah, and trust certainly is a valuable commodity. They want 24 hours to gather some data and prepare. Prepare for the meeting? Prepare to give you an answer about if they'll do it at all. Okay, 24 hours. Uh, will you be our point of contact? Cordell?
Starting point is 00:05:01 24 hours it is. I mean, are they trying to psych us out? There's no way. I mean, there's no way it would really take them an entire day. take them an entire day. I don't know. It's not like we have anything to do with it. All we gotta do is wait.
Starting point is 00:05:15 We really do that a lot, don't we? Can you hurry up? Yeah, yeah. I'm right behind you. I didn't spend a billion months tottering around in a walker just to get told to slow down. Does, is this even gonna be worth coming all the way up here? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:29 You know how Harley is going to the outside to talk to Side O-1 in real life? I'm getting nervous. Let me finish. Okay. Harley has to go in person. They're definitely going to have guards out in the tunnels now that they know that we're alive. So Harley's going to need bodyguards. Sure.
Starting point is 00:05:49 I mean, it's kind of a moot point because we can only send one person out at a time. Is that right? Dr. Lancaster, I'd like you to meet lump truck, bump truck, jump truck, clump truck, clump truck, grump truck. And Ingrid, too. Oh my God. This way, we won't have to sacrifice someone, maybe. We can send out a whole armed team all it wants. How long have you had all these?
Starting point is 00:06:16 Made him over the last couple days. Nobody was watching the potatoes very hard. We're still going to have to send one person out first, though. What? Why? Oh, because we have to set up the dump truck machine. Yeah. Fuck. It'll be good, though, for the next part.
Starting point is 00:06:43 Sending a group out? They should send me as the first one. There are a few. volunteers already, I think. He'll be the most likely to take me out the fastest. We all know he likes me best. Do you really want to do it? The bodyguard field agent thing?
Starting point is 00:07:00 Not after this. Once we get to do our own thing, I'm never doing this shit again. Then what? Do you have a plan for after? I was stuck on the idea of being a field agent for a long time. I'd say it's the only thing I'm good at, but I don't even think that's true. I don't know. know if I'm good at anything? You're good with animals.
Starting point is 00:07:31 Yeah, maybe he'll be a dog walker. An anomalies dog walker. But I might as well do it this one last time, the agent thing. I could be a good meat shield. Let's hope it doesn't come to that. You want to hold Lump truck? Yeah. I like that he's real little.
Starting point is 00:07:52 So they have 24 hours to send people back to Nevada and see if we're bullshitting, and we have 24 hours to figure out what they might want from us? Assuming that preventing the destruction of the planet isn't enough. Yeah. All right, what do we got? The same as before, I suppose. Is any of that going to work? Information, threats to work with other organizations?
Starting point is 00:08:18 I don't know. Maybe. I'm not sure what else we could give them. I don't trust this. Neither do I, but we'll think of something. Cordell, do you copy? 24 hours certainly is a long time to wait for something like this, isn't it? What shall become of this nervous habit of mine, once all of this is over?
Starting point is 00:08:56 If it's ever really over. Shall I continue to ramble into the void until someone of a different faction pierces the veil to me, like Cordell? like Cordell did. I suppose all this assumes I will survive in the first place. Perhaps Saito one will lure me out of my foxhole with the promise of a meeting, a level playing field. And once they can see the whites of my eyes, wouldn't that be poetic? The radio man, forever suited only to be a disembodied voice,
Starting point is 00:09:34 given the ultimate punishment for the sin of crossing into the corporeal. I imagine you can tell that I've spent more time contemplating our failure than our success. But enough talk about everything going wrong. What if everything goes right? What if Sight-01 hears our complaints? What if you hear from me, days or weeks from now, home victorious after several rounds of spirited negotiation and argument? What do I say to you then? Friends and enemies!
Starting point is 00:10:06 Site 107 has saved the world! And now it's... Back to business as usual? Research and containment. Mitigation. The foundation. But a little different. It can't be that.
Starting point is 00:10:28 We're not the foundation. I don't know what we are. I don't know what we have to give the world that it's not being given already. I suppose it's a good thing we have the rest of the day to find the answer to that question. Until then, I shall do my best to keep the weight from driving me into a state of anxious turmoil. Oh, greetings and salutations. Outside world and inside world, it is I, Dr. Turmoyle. It is 15 minutes past the 24-hour mark. I have prepared a small handful of talking points. For when Dr. Cordell finally responds.
Starting point is 00:11:11 Cordell, are you there? You're late, which is totally fine. I've been awake for 29 hours or something close to it, which is okay. Take your time. After all, you might be busy. Being dead or any number of horrible things. I certainly hope you had clearance to talk to me yesterday, but maybe you weren't supposed to address me at all. And now they've killed you. Who knows? Get off the microphone. Salutation, my good friend Radiger. I'm surprised to find you listening, considering, You're usually. You're broadcasting and you're freaking everybody out. Hmm. I, uh, she's late. Then find someone else to sit in there.
Starting point is 00:11:54 I can't. I prepared talking points. You need sleep. You're not exactly the person to scold others for not sleeping. You'll do a bad job if you're tired. Yeah, maybe. You know, I don't even know if they'll listen to any of this. I feel like I've lost my touch.
Starting point is 00:12:13 my touch. I don't know what that means. I don't know if I can speak the language anymore. The Foundation's language, the upper-upper-management's language. I'm ironic considering my skill set. I never thought I would say this, but I wish Alves was here. She always had it right till the end. I'm sure she could have written me better notes.
Starting point is 00:12:38 She's gone. Yeah, she's gone. forever in a temper of spatial anomaly. Fate has a cruel sense of humor. What have you got? You're late. Saito-1 wants to know what you have or they won't agree to meet. Oh, one moment.
Starting point is 00:12:55 Let me find a good place to start. I have notes. I only have a few minutes. Okay. Uh... You're going to want to hurry. Just let me, uh... We can get Alves. What?
Starting point is 00:13:08 Dr. Alves. She's in 7218, right? We can get her out. I think we can do it. What happened to your preparations? You had notes, Harley, like hundreds of them. We spent all day talking about it. Cordell sounded like she only had a few seconds before they cut her off.
Starting point is 00:13:30 I didn't have time to... I told you that you should have shortened them down. They were never going to listen to all that. They wouldn't have listened to the short version either. We didn't have anything new. Rhetorical tricks aren't going to work. Jesus Christ, you can't just throw out something that major without asking anybody else first. What would you have done in my position?
Starting point is 00:13:48 If you had 10 seconds to give them something, they would actually agree to. Well, first, I'd bring a note card worth of points, not a whole fucking textbook. But then what? What would you say? Look, it's a good bluff. All we need to do is get them to agree to the meeting. We don't even need to actually be able to rescue Alves. But I still think we can do it. Harley, we can't.
Starting point is 00:14:14 Lancaster got out. Hell, we got in. Lancaster went from one part of the pocket dimension to a different part. of the same pocket dimension. Besides, what do they care about one lost staff member? It's not like they're itching to get Dr. Gloria Aves back. It's not about her. It's about the fact that we could do it at all.
Starting point is 00:14:34 It won't work. But why wouldn't it work? If it did, she would be here, Harley. Did you read the file? Right, of course you did. Sorry. You saying you saw something I missed? It's possible.
Starting point is 00:14:49 Time dilation, right? Yes, the subject inside the anomaly, receives time passing at a much faster rate than it passes in baseline reality. So Alves has perceived hundreds of years passing at this point. Yeah, she's probably insane by now. But she wouldn't be. It's only perception. It's not real time.
Starting point is 00:15:08 That's why previous tests have observed people still cognitively intact, even if they've perceived 200 years going by. What's your point? It's a temporal spatial anomaly. If she couldn't get out, why would we be able to? Then we're presented with two options. Either she didn't return because she's dead. Or she didn't return because the conflicting temporal effects caused changes in the way the cyclical dash 3 effect operates.
Starting point is 00:15:31 Maybe she didn't refer to a dash 3 at all. Or maybe she did. And she's been carving dash ones all over that planetarium for weeks. Centuries by her standard. Maybe it doesn't work, Harley. But if she went dash 3 in there, wouldn't we know? Previous subjects retained outgoing communication connections. They couldn't hear us, but we could hear them.
Starting point is 00:15:52 I doubt they sent her in without any... They didn't send her in. What? They didn't send her in. She went in herself behind her superior's backs. Why would she... Why would she do that? And why do you know that?
Starting point is 00:16:07 Because I was the first person they interviewed for the investigation. I don't understand. They internally ruled it as a suicide. That doesn't make sense. Why would she blast herself into an anomalous time space instead of... Instead of eating... a bullet like everyone else? I wasn't going to phrase it like that.
Starting point is 00:16:29 I don't know. She never struck me as the type. But I guess that's how these things go. No. That's dumb. That's life. No, Klein. I don't think she would have done that without a reason.
Starting point is 00:16:47 I don't think she would have done that at all. You think Gloria Alves violated hundreds of protocols to jump into a dangerous anomaly just because... The people investigate in the incident. Did they tell you anything about why she might have done it? Allegedly she was unhappy with her new position. Desk work, research, underling shit. You know better than anyone that she's stubborn as all hell. She wouldn't just give up.
Starting point is 00:17:11 And I know better than anyone that she sticks to foundation doctrine like it's the damn Bible. Except when she doesn't? Remember when she locked herself in BH9 during the split? I think that qualifies as an extenuating circumstance. You don't think that whatever she went through after we got shipped out might be extenuating in its own way? I don't think she went crazy early, if that's what you're implying. Klein, she must have been onto something. Like what?
Starting point is 00:17:34 We've learned a hell of a lot about extra-dimensional anomalies. Maybe she set her sights on 72.18. Maybe she had ideas, and they wouldn't let her go for it. Did they say if she took anything with her? Equipment or anything. I mean, she has to have equipment. If she was investigating something, she wouldn't have gone in without it. Then why?
Starting point is 00:17:52 Maybe... Maybe she was catching on to the way we're sticky. What if she had the same idea that we're having now? That she might have a better chance of getting out since she's been touched by something else. Seems like an awfully large risk. Gambling, spending eternity hurtling through space. Could be a big reward, though. Escaping something like that all in your own.
Starting point is 00:18:18 Let's not pretend that we haven't all been thinking at Site 107. We may all be on the same page about leaving the foundation. But what then? What will we become? Another research organization? A smaller, more poorly resourced shadow of the foundation. I don't imagine any of us want that. But Dr. Lancaster's recent actions have opened a window for us.
Starting point is 00:18:47 I believe one impromptu discovery warrants another. Dr. Klein, research, containment, and I have devised plans for a pivotal experiment to be conducted alongside my meeting with the overseer's delegates. We are going to attempt to use SCP 6320's recall properties to recover our head of containment, Gloria Alves, from inside a different anomaly. Should we succeed, our little group will be open to a world of possibility in the untapped realm of extra-dimensional search and rescue. Good morning, Site 107, and welcome to the last week of our lives as we know them. In four hours, Team One will be leaving the building to check safety outside, using the dump trucks as transport to move the entire armed team at once.
Starting point is 00:19:39 Team One and Blue Squad. Remember to keep a firm hold on your dump trucks. Like so. Failure to do so may result in your dump truck feeling insufficiently cherished. An uncherished dump truck may not decide to teleport you at all because it doesn't like you or something. I don't know. Hug them. Or else.
Starting point is 00:20:01 Team one will send operative glump truck back with the encoded note that will confirm that we are safe to move the asset to the outside. The asset is me, as I am very important and special to this mission. Well, I am away. We will need someone trustworthy and well spoken to man my post. And what does this do? I am not to touch that ever. Correct. Which buttons do you use?
Starting point is 00:20:23 This one, this one. This knob is for the volume. Whose volume? Hers. Mine is this slider. You are ready? I don't feel. Well, figure that out because you don't have a choice now.
Starting point is 00:20:33 What am I supposed to say? Officially, you're supposed to stay in constant contact with Cordell until we all get back. She's supposed to give us moment-by-moment updates about what's happening at Cytto-1 and what's happening in Ohio with Alva's team. And unofficially? Just talk to Cordell. About what? Her life, her worries. Noah.
Starting point is 00:20:54 Maybe anyone else who's listening in will be able to help us find him in case we have to bust him out by force. Am I supposed to be... Am I trying to get other information? No, all you have to do is stay in touch. Just do what you do best. It's going to be a hell of a few days. Keep the morale up. I'm not...
Starting point is 00:21:13 This isn't the kind of thing I've had an audience for. You're going to be great. It's only until I get back. Assuming they don't shoot you. Oh, if they shoot me, you have my full permission to tell the foundation to go fuck themselves. As loudly and with as little professionalism as possible. Sounds great. Second thoughts?
Starting point is 00:21:32 No, I'm just scared. We're so small. We have friends on the outside, too. Don't forget that. Maybe none of them have figured out how to talk to us, but they're there. And they want to help. They have before. No, it's...
Starting point is 00:21:49 I'm so small. Good thing it isn't up to you then. We can't change anything alone. We can only do it together. I'm going to be really... mad if you die. Then trust me not to die. Dr. Lancaster from psychology will be on the radio, keeping temperatures low and communicating with the outside through Dr. Cordell at Site 64. I have arranged with the foundation to have a helicopter waiting to take Team One to Reno,
Starting point is 00:22:16 where they will transfer to a private flight that will take off from Reno's airport and land at Site01's airstrip. Likewise, Blue Squad, consisting of three-armed security personnel and Officer Radiger will exit site 107 and travel to Reno the same way, but will transfer from Reno to a civilian flight to Hilliard, Ohio, where a covert foundation vehicle will be waiting to transport them to the Planetarium Housing SCP-72118. Hey, Harley, I'm gonna need you to amend something for me. Really? Are you sure? We need someone here to pull everything together.
Starting point is 00:22:54 Lancaster is gonna need someone answering his questions. his questions. The crew down here will need somebody to keep our shit in order, especially if things go tits up, God forbid. You're not going to be out there for all this? I'm going to be in here for all of us. When she comes back in, I'll be here making sure it all goes smoothly. Are you sure? No, Harley, I'm not. What do you want me to say? We have no idea what the fuck we're doing. I'm fairly confident in what we've worked out. We're smart people. Klein, it's going to work. Maybe I don't want to be there in case it doesn't. In case. we pull out another corpse.
Starting point is 00:23:30 Understandable. Are you actually that confident? Do you really think this is going to work? Honestly, I'm not sure. I have a good feeling about it, and I'm operating on that. I trust what research and containment came up with. I worry that if I think too hard about any of it, I go into cardiac arrest and die.
Starting point is 00:23:51 I guess sometimes you just have to shut your eyes and jump, huh? Exactly. Who are you entrusting with going? into the anomaly. Right is first on the volunteer list. Let me go. When did you get there? I want to go into the planetarium.
Starting point is 00:24:05 You don't have field experience. I can handle it better. And if it doesn't work, if you can't get back and you're lost in space forever? Oh, that's what you mean, isn't it? Yes. Not that it isn't going to work. It's going to work. Yeah. All right.
Starting point is 00:24:25 Guess if anybody can stomach thousands of years of monotonous solitude. monotonous solitude, it's you. Dr. Klein, by the Will of All Site 107 staff will assume the role of director during the operation. Armed personnel will accompany Officer Radiger to SCP 7218
Starting point is 00:24:42 to assist in the mission to rescue Dr. Alves. You're gonna make it out, right? Yes. Good. Me too. But I made you this just in case.
Starting point is 00:25:01 I recorded something for you to listen to while you're in there. Harley gave me the recorder thingy. Are you mad? At you? For volunteering? No. I'm really anxious, though. But I think I know why you had to.
Starting point is 00:25:25 Just come back, okay? I will. I think I'm more worried about it. about you and Harley getting through town, okay? I did everything I could, making a whole bunch more dump trucks. But, you know, even if you have a posse, it's not like they probably won't overpower us and just take you out.
Starting point is 00:25:46 They won't. Not worth it. Harley's right. If they kill a couple of us, then they forfeit killing the rest. Yeah, I hope. And if you can't get back out, I'll just get the boys and we'll hitchhike to Ohio and meet you in there.
Starting point is 00:26:05 We can look at space forever together. But this is all tomorrow's plan. For now, there is popcorn and a movie called Tokyo Godfathers on the AB floor. You can't save seats. Oh, sorry, officer. Sorry, I didn't realize the seat police were here. Well, they are because you're trying to coat the abs on a whole bench.
Starting point is 00:26:24 We want to lay down. Tonight we will all retire early and get as much rest as we can manage. Is anybody still up? Go to sleep. Oh, oh, but you had that walkie home. On and sitting right next to you, look at the speed you answered. I'm just going over my speech a couple more times. Nervous?
Starting point is 00:26:41 No, just preparing. That's a bit surprising. Maybe, but I know things are going to work out in our favor. How? I'm not sure. I just have a feeling and I'm choosing to trust it. I kind of wish we'd five of us together before we split up tomorrow. We'll just have to do it once we all get back.
Starting point is 00:27:05 But so should you distract me. Okay. We will save the world. Grump truck has the all clear. Harley's good to go. We will save our friends. And we will save ourselves. Are you nervous?
Starting point is 00:27:41 Nah. We're going to be fine. We made it this far. Signing off for what might be the last time, Site 107. For the next time you hear my voice. We may not be Site 107 at all. Good evening, Overwatch Command. Episode 70 was written and produced by Anna Maguire.
Starting point is 00:28:38 The voice of Harley is Logan Laidlaw. The voice of Klein is Tosh Ritter. The voice of Lancaster is Jackson McMurray. The voice of Agent Love is Tappy Bardol. The voice of Radiger is Anna McGuire. The voice of Cordell is Ashley Quills. Original music by Jackson McMurray. If you like our show and want to support us,
