Starting point is 00:00:00 This is a podcast from Rover. I am so, so excited about this. I am joined right now by Kathleen, aka Loser Fruit. How are you? Hey, what's up? I am doing great. Good, good, good, good, good.
Starting point is 00:00:17 Now, for a bit of background, if you don't know, Loser Fruit, almost 4 million subscribers on YouTube, over 700 million views on your main channel as well. Over a million followers on Instagram, a big deal in the gaming world. But would you like to introduce yourself? Tell us where you base, what you do from your point of view.
Starting point is 00:00:37 Yeah, I mean, it sounded cooler when you said it. I don't know my number. So I don't know. It sounded cool when you said it. But I do a lot of gaming content, particularly Fortnite. And yeah, I just play lots of games, make lots of great videos. Yeah, great. And I'm a massive fan of Fortnite, man.
Starting point is 00:00:56 I'm so obsessed with your channel as well. some great videos, but how do you think you became so big in the gaming world? And firstly, also, how long ago did you start making videos and uploading them to YouTube? So I started in like 2013. So there's like two things I think that have really helped. And one is just being there early for something. So I was before the big gaming boom of everyone or like influencer boom, I was there doing stuff, doing the same stuff they do now.
Starting point is 00:01:27 So that was one thing. thing is just I've just constantly been doing it. Just I love it so much so I consistently post and and yeah, apparently kind of rare to have that. So yeah, those are the things. Yeah, no, it's pretty cool. And so I guess for a lot of people, like you said, it has kind of become a very oversaturated market.
Starting point is 00:01:49 And obviously heaps of kids still want to try to get into it, you know, getting into streaming and all that kind of stuff. Any kind of tips that you would give them? Honestly, looking, I feel like even though it's oversaturated, there's so many things that I would do that I see gaps in the market for. So I'm just like, I'm like, it is. Like you can't just sit there and game.
Starting point is 00:02:13 There's a lot of people sitting there in gaming or sitting there just making videos. But if you really think about it, really like hone in on like some sort of a specific type of niche type thing, I think that's like the best place to start. And people have a lot of really cool interests and those ones seem to do the best, like people who upload their like, have you ever seen that guy that mows like the lawn?
Starting point is 00:02:33 Yes. And then he makes a big yeah, he was that guy. No one else of doing it. So that's, that's, there's heaps of those
Starting point is 00:02:42 in gaming. Yeah, then. Yeah. So, I get shocked that no one's. Find your niche and then stick to it
Starting point is 00:02:49 kind of thing. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. If you don't like it, you just chain. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:02:55 And now I guess, I feel like it's maybe not so much of a thing. these days. I feel like, you know, the world has changed a lot. But I guess when you're starting out, you know, you back in 2013, do you think there was a lot of stigma for women in the gaming world? In a little ways, like just certain comments you'll only get on more female channels. The only thing that really sucks about being a female is that in gaming is that people don't like to talk about it, like school and stuff as much. They don't like to be like, hey, I watch this person
Starting point is 00:03:30 because they might get made fun of for that reason. That's the only thing that I'm just like, it sucks that it's just not because they're funny type thing. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No, fair enough. And would you say there's been like any challenges through like that same kind of topic? Any challenges you found as being a female in their gaming world?
Starting point is 00:03:50 Not that doesn't apply to both. No. I think that would be the biggest thing is just the barrier. It seems to be a little bit less expected. Yeah. to do well. Yeah, no, definitely. And, of course, moving on from all of that,
Starting point is 00:04:05 what is your favorite thing about, obviously you do, like, so many incredible things, you have so many amazing opportunities, but what is the best thing to you, your most favorite thing to you that you do? Oh, that's too difficult. Just all of it. That's really too difficult.
Starting point is 00:04:21 Because I don't know, I think, that's a challenge. It's like, is it the streaming? just sitting down and playing games? No, I think I like it when it's, I've got a big idea. I invite people to become a part of it, like a Hunger Games, and then it's successful and it's a really good video to watch. And like pulling off the bigger projects is probably my favorite thing.
Starting point is 00:04:45 Not in the moment, it's stressful, but, you know, people cancel stuff like that. But when it's like a good product in the end, that's probably my favorite thing, a good final video. For like those kind of big projects that you do, what's like the longest amount of time that you've had to take to prep something like that? Well, what was like the biggest video that took the most amount of, I guess, prep or like work behind the scenes? That's a tough one because I think like my longest, like there's, I do like 24 hour streams and then turn them into videos of like how much I can rank up in that amount of time. So longest, those.
Starting point is 00:05:22 But that's definitely not the most effort. It was just a long effort. Yeah. Yeah, definitely. I think just preparing tournaments because you're, you got to organize a full Fortnite lobby, which is you'll at least have 60 people and you try to make them contact grade it. Yeah, so that's probably the least challenge. I couldn't even imagine how specifically that might be, eh?
Starting point is 00:05:39 And like, who in the gaming world do you look up to the most? Or I guess another way to word that, who in the gaming world would you love to do a collab with that you haven't? Oh, okay, that's even better because I'm just like, who I look up to is who I share like an office with, like, Loplin and Laser Beam. But who I haven't done a collab with, honestly, Honestly, like, I actually have done. Oh, I haven't done. I don't know. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:06:09 I feel maybe like some of the Minecraft group. They seem cool, you know, like getting on one of the Minecraft servers. That seems like a fun thing, but it's not something I want to do fully. But yeah, seems fun. Is you like good kids? Yeah. Have you said, have you said, I just thought of this. I've seen heaps of TikToks recently.
Starting point is 00:06:33 I assume they're completely fake because there's absolutely no way. But I've seen so many TikToks recently about how Fortnite's ending in 2024, again, it's got to be fake. But what would happen if that happened? Do you think you'd move on to, like, is there another game that you would focus more on? Yeah, I mean, it would be really sad. Right. If Fortnite just, like, disappeared, I guess, yeah, I'd move on.
Starting point is 00:07:02 But like, oh, no, that's really sad, actually. No, I can't talk. I'd be so pissed off, eh? I've spent so much money on skins. It's ridiculous. And if that all went to waste. Exactly. The luck is too full to just go.
Starting point is 00:07:15 One of my flatmates, because, like, I in the flat, like, I'm just terrible with money in general, and I love spending money on skins. One of my flatmates said that, I guess when it was back in, like, when NFTs became, like, a big thing. He thought that maybe in the future you'd be able to, like, sell your fort. night account so people could have the skins and stuff. Do you reckon you would ever do that? No, people do do it, but I think it's not approved. Oh, is that a thing that people actually do? Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:50 Well, not allowed to do, but they do anyway. Oh, that's crazy. Yeah. That is so crazy. Okay, so back into, you know, more gaming stuff, of course. What's your pet peeve about gamers? maybe pick games that you play online with or the biggest pet peeve? Our biggest pet peeve is complainers.
Starting point is 00:08:10 They complain about every single thing, particularly Fortnite, who gives like the most updates. Don't get me wrong. I'm not like a suck up to Fortnite. I could criticize them too, but it's just every single thing. I'm just like,
Starting point is 00:08:22 relax, guys, just a game. Listen, they went on holiday for like July the 4th in America. I don't like it. Listen, they're chilling for some weeks.
Starting point is 00:08:31 Give them time. Just the human toe, let them relax. That's the thing I don't get. Fair enough. Is there a game that you think is completely overrated? The most overrated game, I think, is because, probably because I'm not good at it, is a counterstrike. And, you know, CS2 has just come out. And it's just, I'm just really bad at it.
Starting point is 00:08:54 I think it's overrated because of that. I'm the same way. And all the gunskins and the pace openings. When there's a game that I play. and I'm like, if I'm not good at something the first time I try, I'm like, that's it. This game sucks. Not a fan of it. It does.
Starting point is 00:09:12 Okay, so let's just, I guess, get to know a bit about, a bit more about you, somewhat behind the scenes. What's something that people would be surprised to know about you? I think people would be surprised to know, I guess, the amount of work that goes behind some of the videos and preparing things. behind the scenes. I think that might be a surprise to some, might not be surprised to others. And I don't know. I don't really think I'm too surprising of a person,
Starting point is 00:09:44 so I don't know. Or I guess maybe what's something that you, well, I guess you kind of just answered if you had another answer for it. What's something that you wish all of your viewers knew about you? Or maybe a misconception that you want to squash. See, I'm pretty okay with how they know me, you know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:10:05 Yeah, fair enough. I didn't keep in a distance. Yeah, you know. Hey, well, Loser Fruit, Kathleen, thank you so much for your time today. Really, really appreciate it. Absolutely love your videos and all of your content. And excited to see what's next.
Starting point is 00:10:18 Hey, man, thanks for having me.
