Starting point is 00:00:00 This is a podcast from Rover. So I know you're a fan of veggie mite. So I've got the old, if we look to the plate with the toast cut in half. We've got a little veggie mite and a timetam. And then on the other one we've got a marmite and a cookie time. Have you ever had a cookie time? No, I think so. It's just like a cookie.
Starting point is 00:00:23 All right. Should we start with the Aussie? Wait, okay, tell me what about cookie time. Okay, so cookie time is like the New Zealand. go to snack, all right? It's just a cookie, right? It's just a cookie, yeah. What's it between like American cookie and like cookie time?
Starting point is 00:00:38 They're made in Dunedan. Right, okay. That is in New Zealand. That is New Zealand. Because what I'm just trying to say is that like the Tim Tam, like, where do you get that? That's a special thing. Probably not made in Australia, but still. I've long thought the Tim Tam was New Zealand.
Starting point is 00:00:58 It seems like it's a kind of New Zealand thing to me Especially the name like Tim Tam It's very scary Sounds like New Zealand It's very key we know Yeah We are splitting hairs here aren't we Yeah well they're both incredibly similar
Starting point is 00:01:10 It was an excuse for us to have a bit of food Alright Okay Alright Alright Yeah, which one are we doing New Zealand Let's go No let's go yeah
Starting point is 00:01:17 We can go New Zealand first Which is one you prefer It's got Ozzy It's got Ozzy Alright It's cold Yeah I've cold
Starting point is 00:01:27 Not enough butter I have made the toast a while. Too much vajamo. Okay, so that's more of a criticism of my ability to make toast. It's a three out of term. Less about the product itself. Let's try the timtam. All right, Tim Tam.
Starting point is 00:01:42 Delicious. Instantly redeems the whole meal. All right, New Zealand. I feel like the Tim Tam is decent. But with the Tim Tam, it's the kind of thing that... See, to me, Tim Tam is it just like a three out of five maybe kind of food. but if you pair it with the coffee like a really strong coffee
Starting point is 00:01:59 instantly takes it up to a 4.5 out of 5. Have you ever done the milk? The milk? Yeah, there we go. That takes it up a point or two. But just like that, it's good, but it's, yeah, yeah, it can be brought to life, you know? So you wouldn't peer it with a piece of stale
Starting point is 00:02:16 gluten-free toast? I was gluten-free as well. Yeah, man, I'm a gluten-free guy. I thought, you're on the side of caution. All right, well, you can have the smallest nebill of the moment. What do we got? Do you get around? You like Vigemite.
Starting point is 00:02:27 You're a Marmite guy as well? It's actually, you know, you kind of end up being one or the other. It's been a while. Let's try it out. Yeah, I prefer the Marmite. It's a little more subtle. Yeah. Pretty good.
Starting point is 00:02:44 Honestly, they're pretty similar. Yeah, they're very similar. Yeah. I didn't realize how similar they were. And I think there's a lesson in that, you know? Yeah. A lot of hostility about the Marmite, Vigemite thing. There is.
Starting point is 00:02:57 Ozzie's versus Kiwis. The end of the day, we're the same people. It's just yeast spread. Exactly. It's all it is. Let's try the cookie time. I am intrigued to see your thought on the cookie time. That goes harder.
Starting point is 00:03:11 That's good. Yeah, I like cook time. All right. You're performing in New Zealand tonight. Is the New Zealand crowd quite different to Australian? Or is it like what we're talking about before? When New Zealand and Australia is kind of like, it's quite similar. It's the same.
Starting point is 00:03:26 It's the same. It's like my favorite. place to play is Australia. But then I go to New Zealand, I'm like, oh, this is just like Australia. It's insane. The people are wild. There's another level of energy that happens here. It's the Anzac's. What's your favorite place in the world to tour to? Is it your home of Australia? Yeah, well, I mean, on this last tour, it's been definitely the Australian run so far. It must have changed, right? Because obviously you've been doing it for a long time. And when you were young, I bet it was like, you know, going Ibiza and doing all these things.
Starting point is 00:04:01 And then as you get a bit older, you're like, here, come and performing in Australia is pretty yeah. Yeah, I mean, like, there were, you know, I'd love Montreal. I love doing shows. There's, you know, there's always just random, good, great shows, but I think my, like, the music has been known for longer, you know, from day one in Australia. And the people just know the stuff better. Same in New Zealand. It's kind of one of the same. So I'm really looking forward to play in the show tonight.
Starting point is 00:04:34 I know it's going to be a lot of fun and yeah, it's just, it's going to be a good vibe. Can't wait, man. I'm going to play a quick game of fast facts with Flum. People don't know you. I'm going to run through some things. You let me know are these real facts or are these falsities that I've found on the end whips. First one, the first time you performed a gig as Flum, you had your arm in a sling. False. I mean that was like that was like fifth time or something what happened you just like at your arm or something I crowd surfed at my friend's show
Starting point is 00:05:07 my friend you know totally enormous 16th dinosaur anyway my friend was playing a show at this venue and I was in the crowd at the back and my friends were like you should do a crowd surf and then like push me up and then I got pushed to the front the stage and then I went to get off the stage and then security guard tackled me into a metal pole and I got a concussion and marked my arm up and then I had park life like two days later and then I played park life with a sling so that's the story that's a rock star story man yeah what happened to the security guard I mean technically I was like not supposed to
Starting point is 00:05:48 be there but um hey you know you live in your life fact number two I had to get my visa actually for America the next day And I have a visa photo My ears just like purple and like out to the side And I didn't realize I had a concussion I kept falling asleep while I was sitting there And a consulate Anyways
Starting point is 00:06:09 There's the Australian equivalent of like the day of Grohl Playing with a broken leg It's a loom playing with like an arm and a sling Um Okay is it true that you prefer dogs over people Um I mean Dogs are the pure
Starting point is 00:06:23 It's true. Is it true that you plan to one day score a movie? True. What kind of movie? Creepy sci-fi one. Yeah, I'm here for it. Like an interstellar kind of thing? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:38 Maybe it's really gone for like the, uh... Maybe not that spacey. The top tier of like scored movies there. Something a little creepier. Yeah. I'll know when it comes along. Okay. Just waiting for the ride up.
Starting point is 00:06:53 As a true, used to play sex in a high school band. Yeah. Yeah, I used to play... I mean, I still play sax. I've actually been playing it a bunch lately for new music. Yeah, it was in the same... Do you know they band Gang of Youths? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:09 Yeah, well, me and Davo were in the same class. Stop it, really. So I used to play, like, saxophone. He would sing. Like, we've got old concert video footage somewhere. But yeah, we were friends in school. It's funny. You released a mixtape of a bunch of old songs.
Starting point is 00:07:22 Where's the mixtape of you and our Oh yeah Gang of Hughes The high school tapes man That's even further The back of 10 years Yeah That's like
Starting point is 00:07:32 God Yeah It's like a correlation between People who play Sax And are great producers I think I know a lot of DJs who play Who play sax
Starting point is 00:07:41 You know bank? No Bank B-A-Y-N-K Oh you should look I might be like him He's a Kiwi guy Yeah she just
Starting point is 00:07:49 Got nominated for a Grammy For his Oh Yeah, but it's like a kind of dance music with the sax. Oh, nice. Is it true? You used to, I know this one's true because you've talked about it a lot. You used to make music on a piece of software you found in a neutrgram box.
Starting point is 00:08:09 Yep. That's classic. Very true. Man, what happened to that? They used to put like Tony Hawk Pro Skater and stuff in them as well. Yeah, well, it was Andrew G's music maker. You haven't used it in a while? I haven't used it in a while.
Starting point is 00:08:22 Is it true that you got the name Flume from your favourite Bonneverse song? Yes. That's actually really cool because they're my favourite band. I've got a Bonnever tattoo. Nice. Yeah. I don't have a Flume one yet. Yeah, where's the Flume?
Starting point is 00:08:38 What the fuck, man? Bring out the tattoo gun. All right, so let's talk about your new mixtape. It's cool. Things don't always go the way you plan. This is like a bit of a compilation of music that's been around for the longest time, right? Yeah, I mean, when I do a record or EPs and stuff, there's often stuff that just kind of falls through the cracks that I think's really strong. It just doesn't fit on the release.
Starting point is 00:09:03 And I figured it would be fun to kind of put these things out. It would be quite cathartic for me to kind of put out all this music that I think is really strong, but it didn't really find a place. So, yeah, we've been putting out, put out 10 tracks, kind of just like dusted them off and tied. them up a little bit and just kind of put them out and yeah it's been really nice was that a cool experience going back through the archives and like being like I forgot about this one I forgot about this or do you have ones that live in your mind rent free that I want to release that yeah there was a couple that live in the mind but most of it was a bit of discovery but a lot of it was also just a massive pan the ass because I'm opening laptops at 10 years old and like they don't work right take like 30 minutes
Starting point is 00:09:48 40 minutes to open a project and then you know you can't charge it past one but anyway You're like, where's the Nutragoin box, man? Yeah, yeah, it was a lot of patience, but I'm glad we got there. Any, like, unfinished vocals, you had to head up an artist from 10 years ago. You're like, hey, can you just... No, I just had... I used what I had. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:05 Yes, one of the tracks, I couldn't even get the vocals, because they'd lost the vocals, and I'm just like, well, just put the thing out. Yeah, pre-Ecloud, man. But we're just... That's the whole thing about it. It's just, um... It's chill. You're going to do more of these, because I feel like you must have enough that you could...
Starting point is 00:10:20 You could probably do one here, man. Well, we're planning on doing another one. Oh, exciting. Yeah. Hey, well, good luck for your show tonight in New Zealand, man. Thanks so much for joining me. Appreciate it. Thanks for having me.
Starting point is 00:10:29 Happy stuff to stay all my mom. Thanks for the food. Can we get a doggie bag? Yeah, I really want to eat this later. Appreciate it. Thanks.
