Starting point is 00:00:00 The post pull at your heartstrings. Kristen Brock's 17-year-old daughter has been taken into custody. One after another appearing to show Georgia teen Sarah Grace Patrick crying. This is a really tight net place and suffice it to say. This is really rocking it to its court. Investigators say Sarah Grace Patrick is the one who killed James and Kristen Brock. Hey, true crime besties. Welcome back to an all-new episode of Serialistly.
Starting point is 00:00:28 And welcome back to an all-new episode of Serialesley. with me, your host, Annie Elise. Happy Thursday. Now, I know that it is Thursday and Thursday usually means headline highlights where we talk through everything happening this week in true crime. However, there is a case that I have been following for quite some time at this point. And I think many of you have as well. And it's a very bizarre case. Basically, this young girl's parents were brutally murdered. She was distraught, obviously heartbroken, highly emotional, took to TikTok to grieve and to ask people for help in solving her parents' murders and also was sliding into creators' DMs asking us to cover her case to help figure out what happened. Her five-year-old
Starting point is 00:01:37 younger sister is the one who unfortunately discovered the parents' bodies and just horrific all the way around. Come to find out, she ended up being arrested and charged with murdering her parents herself, which was so bizarre because she literally was taking to social media in all of these viral clips begging for help and seemingly wanting a lot of attention after this. And now she's about to go to trial to face the murder charges. There's been some weird things along the way, too, where some of her family has advocated for her saying that she could never have done this, some saying that she did do this and that she's a psychopath and cold-hearted. And anyway, like I said, I've been following this case for quite some time.
Starting point is 00:02:21 I think I actually, no, I know I have actually done a deep dive on here before talking about the case, but now that it's about to go to trial, I wanted to catch you all up on it so that now, right now, there's something in the water. I don't know what it is. I don't know if it's from the Karen Reed case or the Lindsay Clancy case, but there's this whole new wave of people who are watching trials. now. There always were some people who were fascinated and they'd watch court TV, law and crime, they'd watch the trials happen in real time. But this is now, as far as I'm seeing it,
Starting point is 00:02:52 way more people are invested in live trial coverage. So I thought, here's what I want to do. Since the trial is starting, I'm going to bring you back, take you through the whole case, everything that has happened since, all the weirdness, all the social media of it all, so that you are fully caught up in time for the trial. That way you're not having to backdate any research, figure out how to keep up, what's going on. You'll have the full story. And trust me, it is a doozy of a story.
Starting point is 00:03:22 I hate that word dozy. But this case truly is so wild just because of, again, not only like the audacity of it all, but how she really wanted the public's attention and their sympathy and how, like I said, she was reaching out to creators for them to cover the case. and still a lot of the family divided on whether or not she really did this, what the motivation was. So we've got a lot to get into.
Starting point is 00:03:47 We are going to be deep diving today on Thursday instead of headline highlights. Don't worry, next Thursday, we will be right back to regularly scheduled programming with me and Amy Hiller, giving you all the skinny of what's going on that week in true crime. But for today, we are going to dive in to the case of Sarah Grace Patrick. So let's jump right in. Now, let's start at the beginning, okay? I feel like most of us grow up believing that our parents are people that we can always turn to, people we can trust, people who have our best interest at hearts. And I know that's not for every situation, unfortunately, but I feel like, hopefully for most people, that is the case. The people who are supposed to keep us
Starting point is 00:04:29 safe, right? Comfort us, be there when everything else falls apart. So when a child kills a parent, it's almost impossible to wrap your head around it. And sometimes you hear that it's only one parent that they target because that parent either was too strict with them, wouldn't let them date, you know, made them clean their room, whatever the reason is. But when a child is accused of killing both parents, it is unfathomable.
Starting point is 00:04:54 It is like evil to the core and hard to just understand what could be going through this child's mind, right? And that's when everybody really starts asking the same question. Why? What could possibly make a child do something so horrific? Not once, but twice, to both parents. And guys, in this case, the question has been asked over and over again, but so far, we still do not have a concrete answer. So the case I'm talking about today is Kristen and James Brock. They were found shot dead inside their home back in 2025. And this case, it was horrifying from the very beginning, because we found out that their five-year-old daughter,
Starting point is 00:05:34 is the one who discovered them. Then their 16-year-old daughter, Sarah Grace, is the one who ultimately called 911. However, police then revealed the most terrifying part in all of this. The number one suspect in this horrific double murder was none other than their 16-year-old daughter who called 911. Sarah Grace Patrick. Now, Sarah's case grabbed the nation's attention almost immediately
Starting point is 00:06:00 because how does a 16-year-old girl go from being a daughter, a high school student, a friend, to then being accused of murdering her two parents. This case, as a matter of fact, it got so big that I actually jumped on the mic immediately when it broke and talked through it with you guys just kind of as the news was coming in, as we were figuring things out, because I wanted to just try to understand what the hell was happening here. So together we went through, of course, the tragic deaths of Kristen and James, but also all of the evidence that ultimately resulted in the investigators zeroing in on Sarah Grace. Like I said, though, at the top of this episode, so much has happened since then.
Starting point is 00:06:41 Members of Sarah Grace's own family have come forward. Some defending her, others speaking out against her. And there's also been just like hearing after hearing, court appearance after court appearance, all building towards one very huge moment, which is Sarah Grace's trial. So I thought, you know, before the trial officially kicks off, we need to go back, we need to take a fresh look at things, look at all of the new information, the new evidence, have a, you know, a set of fresh eyes on this, and figure out what the heck is going on here. So what I want to do today is first, I'm going to give you the full rundown from last year with some of the new thoughts layered in along the way, some of the new pieces of evidence that we've uncovered. Then I want to meet you back
Starting point is 00:07:23 here, present tense Annie, so we can break down all of the latest updates together. And like I said before, this is one of those cases where no doubt you are going to have way more questions than answers. So we're going to rely pretty heavily on some interviews and some court footage too to help fill in some of the missing parts. But if you can, I think this is a good episode to watch over on YouTube if you're an audio only listener because you will want to see these visuals, I think. That way, you'll be able to fully see, you know, what we're talking about, what I'm referencing as everything's unfolding. And you'll be basically getting like my whole back case file on this. case and then all of the upstates and freshness and news and revelations, you know, that we have today.
Starting point is 00:08:05 Now one last heads up before I jump in, one of the victims in this case, James, sometimes went by James and sometimes went by Jamie. So whichever name you hear, I am going to be talking about the same individual and the same victim. So I just wanted to clarify that here because I don't want anybody, you know, sitting here wondering if a new family member just entered the chat or if something else happen, James and Jamie are the same person. So with all of that being said, we have a lot to get into today. So let's go ahead and jump in to the case of Kristen Brock, James Brock, and Sarah Grace Patrick. So on the morning of February 20th, 2025, a 911 call came in to Carroll County Dispatch in Georgia. Now the voice on the other end, it was a young girl. She was panicked and she was saying that her
Starting point is 00:08:51 little sister had just discovered something unthinkable. Their mom. and their stepdad had been shot right there in their own bed. This collar was 16-year-old Sarah Grace Patrick. Her mom, Kristen Brock, was just 41 years old, and her stepdad, James Brock, was 45 years old. Together, the two of them were raising a beautiful blended family of seven children, all under one roof in what looked to be a very peaceful home about an hour west of Atlanta. And we talk about this all the time, right?
Starting point is 00:09:25 from the outside, looking in, this house seemed like your typical family home, right? Cozy, lived in, full of love. But what the investigators found on the inside, it was anything but that. The scene that Sarah had described was worse than anybody could ever even imagine. And stepping foot into that bedroom made it crystal clear. This was not just a murder. This was a brutal double homicide. When the first responders finally arrived to the scene, it was unfortunately already too late. Both Kristen and James were dead. Each of them shot multiple times. Now one thing that the investigators were sure of was this did not look like a case where it was one person taking the life of another and then taking their own life as well. That theory was almost ruled out completely
Starting point is 00:10:15 like immediately. Although, as I'm sure you all know from the many episodes that we have covered on here, sadly, that scenario is way more common than most people realize. So it was definitely something that they needed to rule out right away one way or another. But now that it had been ruled out, the biggest questions remained of, okay, well, if it wasn't one of them, who did this? And more importantly, why? Because Kristen and James were not the type of people that you would expect to just end up at the center of a murder investigation.
Starting point is 00:10:46 They were well known, well liked. They were active in their church. By all accounts, they were just genuinely kind people. Friends, neighbors, even casual acquaintances. I mean, everyone had good things to say about them. So when the news of their deaths broke, it didn't just shake their family. It didn't just shake their daughter who called this 911 call in and said that her little sister had found them.
Starting point is 00:11:11 It rocked the entire community. These were good people. No drama. No known enemies. Nobody could think of anyone who disliked them. let alone someone who would want them dead. So from the jump, this case just did not make sense. Not at all.
Starting point is 00:11:27 So naturally, the investigators wanted to start looking into all of the possibilities, right? I mean, maybe it was a break-in gone wrong. Maybe it was targeted, even though they didn't have enemies. Maybe it was more of like a crime of opportunity. But even looking into all of the different theories and all of the different possibilities, especially the break-in theory, that really started to fall apart pretty quickly. I mean, for starters, there were no signs of forced entry at the house. There was also nothing broken, nothing pried open.
Starting point is 00:11:56 Although there was one strange detail. A door had been found slightly ajar, just ever so slightly cracked open. Now, was that odd? I mean, definitely. Why would a door just be ajar unless somebody had left their door unlocked that night and somebody had come in and just left it open, just a little bit cracked open? But was this enough to suggest a home invasion? I mean, not really.
Starting point is 00:12:21 Maybe they were the kind of people who left their doors unlocked at night. Who knows? I mean, I am definitely not that kind of person. I like triple check and make sure everything is locked. But a lot of people leave their doors unlocked at night, especially if they live in a safe neighborhood. And I'm not suggesting that you ever should definitely lock your doors, but it is more common than we think, especially in smaller towns.
Starting point is 00:12:41 But still, even thinking that maybe they left their door unlocked or maybe even left it ajar on their own by accident, things still just were not lining up. Nothing in the house looked ransacked. Nothing was missing. It didn't have that, you know, chaotic thrown together kind of vibe that you would usually see in a robbery or burglary. It just didn't feel like somebody had broken in, grabbed whatever they could, and then just
Starting point is 00:13:07 bailed and took off and booked it. And then you add in the most chilling part of this entire thing, which is the fact that Kristen and James weren't at the home by themselves. They weren't alone. Their daughter, which some reports say that she was five years old, some reports say that she was six, but still, very, very young, their young daughter was in the house that night. She's actually the one who found her parents dead from multiple gunshot wounds in their bed. And here's where things take another turn. Sarah Grace, the 16-year-old who called 911 after her little sister found their parents, she was also in the home that night. Now, neither one of the girls
Starting point is 00:13:47 saw or heard anyone come into the house that night. And that was really important, right? Because both of them were at the house. So you would think that any sort of information regarding that would be helpful. Whether they heard somebody, heard commotion, heard a door, saw something, saw a shadow, but they didn't see or hear anything. And here's where it also gets a little bit weird. Sarah Grace told the investigators that she did not hear any gunshots, not one.
Starting point is 00:14:14 And they were both shot multiple times. So that in and of itself, I mean, it was pretty suspicious, questionable, at the very least. Because like I mentioned earlier, Kristen and James had each been shot multiple times. And we're not talking about some like massive estate type of house with like a West Wing, a movie theater in the basement, you know, all sorts of different areas blocked off. No, this was a regular-sized home. It was a small family home. So if a gun went off, especially more than once, you would definitely hear it. absolutely no question. But then things got even stranger. Because according to one news outlet,
Starting point is 00:14:53 a close family friend named Kelly Brown said that Sarah did tell her that while she didn't hear any gunshots that night, she did hear something. She heard her stepdad James LVad machine stop working. Now, in case you're not familiar, an LVad machine is basically this assistance device that you can wear. It's kind of like a mechanical pump that helps the heart circulate blood when it's too weak to do it on its own. And it kind of just makes this constant humming sound, like a, hmm, just this, you know, machine that is constantly running. Now, when an LVAD pump stops or loses power,
Starting point is 00:15:28 it does automatically make a continuous loud beeping sound so that it can alert people nearby that, you know, hey, this person needs medical attention. So if it suddenly shuts off, you would probably notice, although it is not as loud as a gunshot. So detectives started digging deeper. And while they were digging deeper, Kristen and James family was left to grieve, not just the loss of two people that they loved, but also the fact that whoever did this, they were still out there. There was still a danger not only to the public, but to their family. Could this perpetrator have thought that Sarah Grace or her younger sister could be an eyewitness? Were they going to be next? What was going on? Who was responsible for this? So as everyone is grappling with this news and grieving, the funeral. comes. And for the investigators, this wasn't just a chance to quietly observe and see if anybody
Starting point is 00:16:22 was acting a certain way or if anybody showed up that maybe wasn't expected to show up. This funeral ended up being a major turning point, all because of what was supposed to be a very simple, very heartfelt, very loving eulogy by their daughter, Sarah Grace. For those who you do not know me, my name is Sarah, and I'm Christine Box's daughter, and James Block's stepdaughter. This isn't it used to me. I go, oh, well, thank you, and I hear you do this all the time. I'm here with me because I stutter a lot. I just wanted to say goodbye to my mom and James since we never got the chance to. I was so used to you guys, always made here to compete that I never once thought to imagine y'all not be here. And then I have a single clue with how much I needed John until now.
Starting point is 00:17:14 For James, thank you for all the life lessons you taught me for being the best fun as dad ever. Your heart will finally be healed in heaven and neither of y'all will be in any pain anymore. Although that gives me so much comfort, your fight was not supposed to end there. And for my mother, everything you went there does not define what kind of person or what kind of mother you were. You were a beautiful time soul with so much gratitude and so gosh James'am. and you taught me so many life lessons and someone who just recently taught me written a letter
Starting point is 00:17:47 you sent the james in 2018 when I first read it I saw a pillow and I cried and I got chill books and every single time I read it it puts me no on pace considering that gave you so much permission I got to remember them
Starting point is 00:18:02 through who they were and not what happened to them and be happy for the time we got to spend together and not that sad about the time that we don't I may always and will always be her son, but she will always be my star from up above.
Starting point is 00:18:17 And I know at night time, if you go and look at Mom and Jamie in the sky, they gladly they will save me to see it in heaven like they say to me in heaven, like they saved to see for me in the scary church. Although there's nothing we can do to prove with that, we still have control over how we treat people with us today. Therefore, when someone tries to tell you anything, no matter how long it's going to be, just listen, because you never know what if somebody's time to go. You can say good night and wake up a few hours just to find out they aren't there, despite your joy and their love. So just listen and never take a hug or anyone or anything for granted in love with all they have any like they did.
Starting point is 00:19:03 And lastly, my take by not taking people for granted. I want to thank my family, also known as my cat. My friend, my son, my siblings, Jeeley, Johnny, Jaden, Jojo, Tristan, Ashley, and Jessie for helping me get in my worst night man. And last but not least, I want to thank Tasha, three, Nate, Lake, Kimberly Hayes, Kim Bowling, Katie, and most of all my father, Angie and Ben, for making such a big difference. Jamie and Mama would have thanked y'all, too. I love you guys, and so do it. And so you do that I'm sorry. Now, I've seen a lot of back and forth about that eulogy.
Starting point is 00:19:41 Some people see it as a touching tribute from a young girl to her murdered parents. But others, well, it left them feeling a little bit skeptical, especially that ending when Sarah's final words were, I'm sorry. Was she just apologizing and tearing up and stumbling over her words saying, I'm so sorry, this happened to you, possibly? But some people couldn't help but wonder whether that I'm sorry was actually a sign of guilt. Now, no matter how you interpret it, one thing is for sure here. Between that speech, the lack of gunshots that she claimed to hear and everything else that
Starting point is 00:20:16 wasn't adding up, the investigators were officially starting to like lock in on Sarah Grace, not necessarily that she was the one responsible for this. But did she know more? Could she know more? Was she somehow involved? And right then, Sarah Grace did what a lot of young teenagers do. she took to social media and she started posting a lot on TikTok, not only posting about her parents' deaths,
Starting point is 00:20:45 but pleading with the public if they knew any information, had any information, just absolutely devastated. And it seemed in a heartbreaking way as though the TikTok community were her friends, her closest friends, and that she was confiding in them and looking for some sort of comfort in them. In those TikTok videos, Sarah Grace did show share some photos and some clips of her family. However, a lot of the posts actually just focused on Sarah herself. Like photo after photo of her, she's crying, she hissed tears streaming down her
Starting point is 00:21:18 cheeks, caption saying, Ben Through Hell, I just want my mama just sad fishing in a way and looking for attention in my personal opinion. It was as though she was hyper-focused on herself rather than highlighting her parents who had been murdered or family struggles or anything like that. She also hinted at having panic attacks and harming herself and at one point, needing to call a self-harm hotline. Now, if you didn't know much about the case, you would probably be scrolling on your For You page on TikTok, scroll past Sarah Grace's TikToks and see this very grieving teenager just trying to process this horrific tragedy that just happened in her life. maybe, like I said, even looking for connection or some kind of strange comfort in strangers online.
Starting point is 00:22:06 However, to the investigators who were very locked in on this case, they were already eyeing Sarah Grace pretty closely. So now these videos, these TikTok videos, they weren't screaming heartbreak. To them, they were screaming guilt. And here's where it gets even wilder, okay? Sarah Grace wasn't just posting her own TikTok videos. She was actually reaching out to big TikTok creators, people with massive followings, asking them to get involved, asking them to please cover her mom and her stepdad's case, pleading with them. Y'all, this is Sarah Grace, and she messaged me back on June 3rd and just said, search up Brock case. So I said Brock Turner, Brock who?
Starting point is 00:22:50 She said Kristen and James Brock. Hold on. They're my parents. And out of nowhere, a random Thursday night in February, someone came in my house with me and my five-year-old sister. and my parents left them for me and my little sister to wake up to. Technically, it was a Wednesday night because I found them Thursday morning. I am so sorry, I cannot imagine. I will absolutely research and cover their case.
Starting point is 00:23:08 Please take care of you always. So yeah, at this point, this case was starting to pick up a lot of traction online. People were stunned. How could two people be murdered in their own home with two young children inside and no one saw and no one heard a single thing? Also, there was no forced entry, no solid, evidence left behind. No clear motive. It just did not make any sense. And then, just right when it felt like this case might actually go cold, there was a huge break in the case. On July 8th, everything
Starting point is 00:23:43 changed because Sarah Grace was arrested. And get this, she actually turned herself in with her dad right there by her side, her biological father, that is. Shortly after, the county sheriff's office held a press conference, and there they announced that Sarah Grace had been charged with two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault. Now, this was also the first opportunity for the public to start asking questions about what was at the time very quickly becoming a huge case. Has she been charged as an adult? She has. Any idea what the motive was, we are still working with her diligently. Our investigators have been speaking with her. It is correct that she was one thing without one call, correct? Yes.
Starting point is 00:24:27 At what point did investigators begin to focus on her as the suspect? So I believe in the beginning of any case, everyone's a suspect. I think I told many of you that when we were on scene that day. However, as an investigation continues and everything ebbs and flows, like I said in my press release, mountains of evidence has gotten us through here today. Lots of processing, lots of working with our law enforcement partners to get us to where we are today that honed in on her as a suspect. Do you believe that she tried to cover this up in any way over the course of these months?
Starting point is 00:25:00 You know, we've seen videos on social media. Somebody saying, you know, I'm making this message on behalf of the daughter. And you believe she tried to get people like to cover them on anything. Considering that she didn't just immediately tell us what happened, yes. But who knows what's going on in a young person's mind like that. But she has been arrested in charge now and we feel confident that she is responsible for their murders. but like I said, it is an open, ongoing investigation. It's very possible. Others are involved as well.
Starting point is 00:25:28 What does a key break in the case? Just evidence. Being able to go through evidence, being able to use private laboratories, being able to use GBI crime lab. You know, when you're processing stuff, like I said, it doesn't come back in an hour. So we've been filtering through, and there's still evidence left to process.
Starting point is 00:25:43 You notice there's visual evidence. I assume that text mentions emails. Was there some type of betrayal that led you that way? There's always a lot of evidence. I won't go into exactly what it is because it is an open, ongoing investigation, but we have mountains of methods. What about the social media and the TikTok that has somebody that can be used? That will be up to the prosecuting attorney and they'll work diligently with our investigators to make, you know, to make the case go forward towards trial or whatever they decide to do. Is that the younger daughter, the youngest child that found them?
Starting point is 00:26:15 I believe that, and you speak to this, Kim, the smallest daughter found them that morning, correct? morning correct and then she came and told Sarah and then Sarah made the 911 call where was Sarah Sarah was in the home no I mean in the interim where she said what would she living with she's 17 she's kind of been out on her own was she out on her own at the time no she lived at home with her mother and stepfather at that time but since then she's lived with different family members and kind of moved all over the place she turned herself in yes she did turn herself in this morning you believe that any of other family members knew about this? Hard to tell. We're still, I can say this, that everybody that
Starting point is 00:27:00 we have talked to through the course of the investigation, that our family members have been nothing but cooperative. Anything else? Did you do anything after the murder during the investigation that he hasn't used in your, like I said, we're still kind of putting all the pieces of the puzzle together, but I can tell you what led us here today, and that's the evidence that Sarah killed her parents. Did she say why she turned herself in? She turned herself in because we notified her, she had warrants for arrest. Did she be previous charges that he produced also that house regarding? Not that I'm aware of, not not regarding her, not that I'm aware of.
Starting point is 00:27:33 Did she see a worseful? I have not been personally with her or interviewed her, so I could not answer that question. Are you going to shock to her family as well? Did you get any kind of a shock? Like I said, her family's been very cooperative. I can't imagine as a parent making, you know, Her father brought her up here this morning. She turned herself in.
Starting point is 00:27:57 I can't imagine what he's going through. So my heart goes out to him as well. You talked about the family. I know they've been trying to best to keep this in the court. Yes. You both are working behind us. Yes. I guess it makes,
Starting point is 00:28:08 especially for people have taken to ensure the eyes of God and keys are crossed. Yes. And we speak to that. But it's just seeing like on social media that they were frustrated. But it seems like to. Yeah. And we understand. I mean, if you,
Starting point is 00:28:18 if you don't work in the law enforcement field, like I said, CSI's kind of tainted us where, hey, something happens. It's done in an hour. This is not the. the case. I mean, and not only that, don't you want the right person arrested? So that's why it takes so long. These diligent investigators took their time. We've got the person that we believe orchestrated this and committed this horrific crime. And that was played through the part of evidence.
Starting point is 00:28:40 And that's not something that's processed overnight. Do you know where the weapon was a pain from? I can't speak to that right now. Now this shocked everyone. I mean, not only family and friends and the community, but it shocked everyone on social media. Because here, Sarah Grace had already created a pretty big following for herself. And she was constantly sharing her journey of losing her mother and her stepfather and the grief and how her little sister, her five-year-old or six-year-old little sister is the one who found their bodies. And social media and the social media community had been following along with this story,
Starting point is 00:29:16 just their hearts breaking for her, watching it all unfold. And again, she had reached out to so many creators. too, asking them to cover this case. So now seeing that she had been arrested and looking at all of those TikTok videos in hindsight, everyone was floored. Nobody could make sense of it. And everybody's thinking like, okay, there's got to be more to the story here. Surely this isn't what we're seeing at face value.
Starting point is 00:29:42 Like on the surface, there has got to be more. But was there? What was the motive? Where was the murder weapon? Who else was involved? and why would Sarah Grace have done this? There were still a lot of questions that needed to be answered. But what's also been really telling through all of this
Starting point is 00:30:02 is how people who actually knew Sarah in real life, kids who went to school with her, people who were friends with her, how they've now started sharing their own reactions on TikTok. And across the board, it's kind of the same sentiment, just total shock. Nobody was expecting this. Nobody saw anything like this coming.
Starting point is 00:30:22 There were no warning signs, no red flags, no stories of her being a bully or even ever remotely aggressive. I mean, certainly nothing that could ever make you think that this girl could be capable of anything like this, let alone a double homicide. Here's a few things about Sarah that would shock you for her to even do this, and this is why we didn't suspect anything about it. Going to school with her and being her friend, she was super sweet. She always wanted to be friends with people. as someone else said when they were telling you like telling us about like them being friends she would always give notes to people that were crying she'd always come up to you she'd always give you food she just wanted to be liked and that's why it was so surprising to us that she would even do this
Starting point is 00:31:05 some of her family members have even come forward in the media and they've expressed their just complete and utter shock at her arrest some of them even expressing their doubts that she's guilty Sarah Grace's grandfather, Dennis, ended up coming forward on law and crime, saying that the evidence against her just was not adding up. He also touched on a lot of the points that all of us who were watching this unfold in real time were wondering about. Do you believe she's the one who did this? No. No, I think to sum up, really, the detectives, the best they could tell me was the evidence says that she's the only one who could possibly. have done it. That says to me that there's no real evidence that says she did do it.
Starting point is 00:31:53 We hear that there's a mountain of evidence, but they haven't really said, but their term was mountain of evidence. What did they tell you beyond just she's the only one who possibly could have done it? What did they share with you about why they believe she's the one who is responsible for this? Well, they never did share anything that said she was responsible. other than the fact that she's the only one the evidence says she's the only one who could possibly have done it. Of course, they haven't revealed any of the evidence because it's an ongoing investigation, and I understand that. But I know they were pressured to make an arrest, and I think this might have been premature.
Starting point is 00:32:40 I don't think they needed to wait until the investigation was over. Sarah certainly wasn't going anywhere, but, you know, she's taking it very hard. She swears by her innocence. Have you spoken with her since her a rep? Yes. She called me from the jail the day after, of course, pleading for me to help her get out. And she was just very upset and saying, please help me. there's not much I can do at this point.
Starting point is 00:33:20 I don't know what else to say. She's always been a good kid. I've always liked Sarah. She was always very friendly and she never really asked for anything. She was a very, you know, to me she was just an ideal child. She just graduated from high school. She was very proud of that. She was working two jobs.
Starting point is 00:33:44 she was doing very well. And I just don't, I don't understand what could have ever, if she did do this, what triggered it? If you, during that phone call, asked her if she had done it, what did she say? I didn't ask her because it was just assumed she didn't do it. I didn't, I wasn't going to accuse her of doing it. I just advised her to cooperate with the authority. and we, you know, wait and see and hopefully get her through this. And she maintained her innocence on that phone call.
Starting point is 00:34:27 She said she's not the person. She said, I didn't do it. Why are they doing this to me? And I'm sorry to go back to February 20th, because I know you lost your daughter and your son-in-law. But what did Sarah tell you about that night in conversations that you had? Just that, you know, that Jaley, her daughter, went in to wake them up. She came back and Jaley said she couldn't wake them up.
Starting point is 00:34:54 And she, Sarah went in and found them, you know, deceased. And she made, she called 911. And that's all she said. She's never gone beyond that. I know this is kind of a difficult question, but law enforcement said that they found it suspicious that. Sarah would not have heard gunshots in that home. And that was something that in the beginning started, I guess, it was a red flag for them.
Starting point is 00:35:24 And that a five-year-old would go in and potentially hear gunshots. And I know James had a heart machine, but then Sarah would not. And that they found suspicious. What do you say to that? Well, I don't know. The house was very unusual. And her bedroom wasn't next to theirs, but, um,
Starting point is 00:35:44 Sarah claimed that the TVs were on. I know they were on in both rooms. I don't know. It did seem unusual to me that she didn't say she didn't hear the gunshots. But at 1.30 in the morning, she was asleep. I know I'm such a solid sleeper. You know, it's possible. could have happened to me and not heard it.
Starting point is 00:36:17 What was her relationship with James and Kristen? It was good. It was very good. She was here Thanksgiving with them and we had a good time. Everybody was happy and it was good conversation. It was no trouble and my conversations with Kristen right up, you know, right up to that. that night she never mentioned anything about problems of the Sarah, which she would have done. Kristen and I were very close. She was the daddy's girl. Did Sarah know how to fire a gun? I'm sure she did. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:06 You know, and this is Georgia. I mean, many people grow up handling firearms. Did she grow up around guns? Did James had, were there guns in the house? You know, there were times they were here. You know, I live out in the county. and we've taken some of my guns and fired them off my deck and so forth. And I believe Sarah took some of that at times. Her brothers were more interested in it. But yeah, no, I wouldn't say she got grew up with guns. No.
Starting point is 00:37:39 At the funeral, another, and the spokesperson for the Carroll County Sheriff said that this was something that started. out to her that in Sarah's speech at the funeral, she said sorry at the end of her speech. And I guess investigators, that was another red flag for them. What do you make of that, that being a red flag to the people now accusing her of murder? I'm sorry. She wrote that speech, and I can't speak for her for that. It didn't even occur.
Starting point is 00:38:14 That never occurred to me. you know, I'm sure she was sorry it all happened. I am sorry it happened. Using the word sorry, I don't think there's any admission of guilt. I think that's a little exaggerating. Then, shortly after Dennis's interview came out, two more of Sarah's family members also came forward. And this was interesting because one was completely defending her,
Starting point is 00:38:43 while the other thought that Sarah Grace was completely guilty. The first was Sarah's biological father. He said that the so-called mountain of evidence that the sheriff claimed to have wasn't actually much evidence at all. Because I know police have said law enforcement that their words were like, we have a mountain of evidence against Sarah Patrick. Do you have any indication of what that mountain is, of what they think that they have on your daughter? I can't really speak too much to the evidence. I don't want to talk too much, but if they say they have a mountain of evidence, that folder was pretty thin. That's all I will say.
Starting point is 00:39:23 So they showed us a little bit of stuff. But without attorneys around, I don't really want to speak of that evidence. But the evidence that they did show us did not add up at all. He also gave more information about the relationship between the Patrick's and the Brock. and according to him, Sarah Grace didn't really have any sort of issues with her parents at all. What was the relationship, I guess, between Sarah and the Brocks? She loved them. She loved them with all her heart. You know, me and Kristen, we got divorced.
Starting point is 00:40:05 2019, she got with James in 2018. My kids lived with her for about a year. And then Kristen got in a little bit of trouble. And I went back to the court during COVID and fought for custody and I won full custody of both of my kids and they came home with me. I went through a divorce. And after my divorce, I wasn't, I wouldn't say, I wasn't stable. I was working and everything like that. but Kristen and James had more to provide as far as at home school systems and stuff like that.
Starting point is 00:40:52 And it was my daughter's choice to go back and live with them. And I allowed it because I thought that things were getting better and we went from there. And so Sarah's been with them, I think, since 2023. Did she have, and I know you said that she loved them, there's been a lot of, lot of talk about her social media and we can talk about that in a moment. But was there any sort of issue she had with them at all that would have, you know, for people looking at this and hearing what the sheriffs are saying, like any sort of problem in the house that could have led to something? I wouldn't say there was any kind of problem in the house. I think that she was just a normal
Starting point is 00:41:34 teenager growing up. And when she didn't get her way, she called me, you know. And when she didn't get her way with me, she called them. You know, it's just typical teenager. There wasn't many problems in the house. Her biological dad also fired back at the people who were questioning Sarah's eulogy, saying that Sarah Grace absolutely, genuinely was grieving her parents' death. What's your perspective of the eulogy she gave at the Brock's funeral? That eulogy was not scripted. My daughter came with that eulogy through her heart for her. her mom and Jane's because she thought she was doing the right thing speaking and for people to hold that against her. I mean, come on. None of that was scrutiny. That was all real emotions.
Starting point is 00:42:24 Real emotions. You know, she asked me permission to do it. And I gave her permission. And she's a very talented girl, you know, when it comes to being able to speak. I mean, we can sit at a table and she can say a blessing 10 times faster than most people. As far as that I'm sorry goes, you can sneeze on my daughter and she'll tell you I'm sorry. You know, she says I'm sorry to everything. Not just to the eulogy, you know. Really, I mean, you can step on her toe and she'll tell you she's sorry she was in the way.
Starting point is 00:43:06 That's just the type of girl she is. For you, I know she had lived with you since the deaths of the Brock's. Were there any red flags for you over that period of time? Like for people who have just kind of heard this and you have this, the sheriff's office saying that she's responsible for this. And then she's living with you for this period of time. Was there anything that stood out to you that at any point you were thinking or maybe even suspecting your daughter of being accused of this?
Starting point is 00:43:34 Not at all. Not one bid. you know of course when it all happened there was a lot of crying a lot of tears a lot of morning you know a few weeks after we started you know applying to jobs and stuff like that she graduated high school you know we had a couple different holidays that were pretty difficult because you know mother's day her mother's birthday her own birthday and you know nothing indicates me at all that she could have done this. Me and my daughter have 100% an open relationship.
Starting point is 00:44:12 You know, I know about her boyfriends. I know about anything that she's done. You know, I've told her always, you know, if you're ever in trouble, if you ever need me, if you're going to do something that's behind my back, you can always call me, you know, and we lived a typical life, you know, just, but there was no red flags at all. She expressed her feelings about her mom a lot, you know? So that all left one very big question. If her biological father was sure that Sarah Grace did not commit these murders, then who did?
Starting point is 00:44:47 Well, according to him, those earlier statements about how Kristen and James had never been in any trouble before and never had any sort of enemies, well, he said that wasn't entirely true. And he also said that he suspected that their past with drugs may have gotten them killed. what theories when you were, you know, you, I don't know how often you would talk about that night with your daughter, but I guess when you'd get to that point where you'd speculate about what may have happened, what did Sarah think happen that night? I don't like to talk bad about them and their deaths and stuff like that because I know that families are hurting and stuff like that, but Sarah knows more than most people knows.
Starting point is 00:45:33 and the only thing that she could think of was there was drug deals go wrong. You know, they ripped somebody off a couple months before that, and Sarah thought that it could be that person. You know, and I'm not, when I say drugs, I'm not talking about, like, you know, the hardcore drugs or anything like that. From what I understand it was over weed or something like that, but a substantial amount. And that's what she was.
Starting point is 00:46:03 That's, you know, and she was telling the investigators that the whole time. And when we talked to the investigators, they said that they had already, you know, talked to them and said that they counted them out. So, I mean, there was a incident that happened right before Valentine's. My son told me about because when the detective came to my mom's house where I was staying, he started asking about certain people and there was a friend of theirs that actually pulled a gun on them right before Valentine's Day and my son witnessed it. Now, as shocking as that new theory was, the same week as his interview came out, James's niece also went public.
Starting point is 00:46:52 And her story, it could not have been any further away from Sarah's biological father's story. She said that she was suspicious of Sarah from the very beginning. What was your reaction when Sarah Grace was arrested? I can't say I was totally shocked. We had suspicions of her. But I guess overall, I felt relieved that hopefully, you know, we're going to get justice in this case. You know, the investigators have done so much work over these five months. I'm confident that they've gone through everything and to get this arrest, you know.
Starting point is 00:47:30 I don't think it's to get forewarrants to being for murder makes me feel like they have enough, you know, to have made this arrest for a judge to have signed off on it. So I'm confident we'll get justice in this case now. And you believe that she is the person responsible for the murders of Jamie and Kristen? I do. Was there a moment over the past several months where you kind of reached a point in your head where you felt like she would be the person responsible? You know, it's pretty much from the beginning, you know, the gunshots, of course, you know, that's the big one that left something in everyone's head, you know?
Starting point is 00:48:21 How did you not hear the gunshots? It's record now that it was more than four shots. It's on record now that the five-year-old in the house heard them. I mean, I know you go back to it because you're, you know, this is your family, but just the fact that she found her parents just really, I think anybody watching the story, it's something that's just so difficult. In going back, I mean, the house, let's go there. And I know you've been in the home.
Starting point is 00:48:55 What is the makeup of it? So the house was very small and all of the bedrooms are located in the same area. It's not, you know, to my best guess, maybe eight feet from Jamie and Kristen's room to Sarah's room. Like I said, we know for a fact there is a minimum of four shots that were fired. He was on an Elvad machine and if you never heard one, it is so loud. You can hear it from outside. You know, it's it's that way for a reason. It's meant to tell you that something is very wrong.
Starting point is 00:49:26 with your heart. And like I said, the five-year-old in the home heard the shots. And so that's a lot of noise for a small space and for the rooms to be so close. I don't think the TV being on is that relevant. And there's been a lot, and I know you were there, the funeral for your uncle and Kristen,
Starting point is 00:49:51 and the speech that Sarah gave, this eulogy. What was going through your mind? not only because I know you're, you know, there mourning the loss of your uncle and his wife, but what was going through your mind as you watch that speech? It was one of the weirdest things I've ever seen. I had my best friend with me and we were just staring at each other the entire time. You know, what is this voice that she's doing that it sounds like crying? Sure, if you heard of an audio of it, sure, she's crying.
Starting point is 00:50:25 But being front row at that funeral, she never shed a tear. She didn't stop. She didn't think about what she was saying. It was a scripted speech. I wouldn't call it a eulogy like people are calling it. It was a speech where she did shoutouts at the end of it. At the time, and I know it's been brought up now, but she said sorry. At the time, did that send off a red flag for you?
Starting point is 00:50:50 It did. But what was even worse was. afterwards when she went person to person in our family and said sorry. You know, what's worse than that is that for five months straight, she contacted my mom several times a week and said that she was sorry. And her exact words, sorry that Mr. James is dead. Sorry that you don't have Mr. James. Sorry that your brother died. I mean, it went on and on and on. The niece also said that Sarah, yeah, seemed sweet on the outside, but she had a different, darker side that she only showed to James and Kristen. Is there anything that was a red flag to you that
Starting point is 00:51:29 in talking to your, to your uncle about, about Sarah Grace that that sticks out now? What sticks out now? Yeah. He said repeatedly that she's not the Sarah that you guys know. You don't see the real Sarah. And so now looking back, that haunts us, you know, should we have asked more questions, but we would always tell him, you know, she's, you've never raised a teenage girl. You know, this is normal teenage behavior, you know, if she's acting out or, you know, she was sneaking out of the house to meet boys and stuff. And it didn't really seem like a red flag at the time. Did she ever share with your mom or say anything about what she thought happened that night? Yeah, she, you know, said that it could be some friends of theirs or it could be someone that they knew or she has said that it had to have been somebody they knew because they knew the layout of the house.
Starting point is 00:52:32 They knew what door to come in, you know. She hasn't ever been really specific, but she has thrown out a few theories. Yeah. In those communications, I know there's only so much you can share, and there's clearly a criminal case that's playing out here and there's a lot of unknowns, but from her story and what she told your mom, how consistent was the story that she told your mom about what she experienced that night? The story was never consistent. It changed in a million different ways. She never told the story the same way twice. She would take things out. She would add things in. You know, my mom was keeping a mental record of things that, you know, could help the case as far as what she said and not blaming her, but, you know, just trying to get answers. And then she would change the answer, you know, she would change what happened. You know, it was a revolving door of what happened. And then James's niece was asked the one question that a lot of us are still wondering. Why? Why would a seemingly normal, happy 16-year-old little girl
Starting point is 00:53:40 execute her parents in cold blood. According to the niece, this was not a case of child abuse gone too far or a mental health breakdown and her retaliating against them or even trying to protect herself. This was just a bratty teenager who wanted her way. If she did this, why? Why? Is there anything in your mind? I mean, why she would be motivated to do something like this? You know, I have theories and I know most of the people on the internet do. A lot of them are the same, but what I keep saying is, you know, everybody has been mad at their parents. Everybody didn't like what their parents said to them. You know, when you're at that age, you think that
Starting point is 00:54:23 you're right and everybody else is wrong. And, you know, but what everybody else doesn't do is kill their parents. So as you can imagine, those two interviews really reignited the media firestorm that was around this case. And everybody was debating who to believe, what to believe. Meanwhile, though, Sarah's case was making its way through the court system. And there was a major question about to be answered. Should Sarah Grace be held in jail until her trial? Or should she be released and waited out with her family? At Sarah's bond hearing in late August 2025, a ton of witnesses came forward for both sides. Sarah's pastor said that she was such an important part of their church community. The mother of Sarah's best friend also had great things to say about her.
Starting point is 00:55:06 Yet interestingly, she had some pretty bad things to say about Kristen and James. As our relationship grew, she began to open up to me about her past and experiences with Kristen and James. One thing she said that has always stayed with me was, no matter what they've done, I will always forgive them and love them, because deep down, I know that's not who they truly are. The statement showed the depth of Sarah's heart. She truly believes in forgiveness and has always extended the same grace to others. She once told me the holding grudges isn't what God wants for us, and I've carried that wisdom with me ever since. While staying at our house, Sarah was full of life, happy, upbeat, and in many ways a typical
Starting point is 00:55:50 teenager. But there were also signs of trauma she endured. She would often apologize for things she never had to, like she would ask, asking for food, taking a shower, or using the bathroom. It was heartbreaking. Despite that, she remained. incredibly kind, respectful, and especially patient with my son who is on the autism spectrum. That witness implied pretty heavily that Sarah Grace was being abused by Kristen and James,
Starting point is 00:56:18 which that perked my ears up right away. It had me wondering if that would end up ultimately being part of her defense strategy. But James' family, I mean, they painted a completely different picture of Sarah Grace in court. James' sister Kim sobbed completely, pleaded for the judge to keep Sarah behind bars. She was a special. worried that Sarah Grace could target her younger sister. Remember, the little five-year-old Jaley. I mean, if she was given bail, her younger sister could be a key witness for the prosecution. Who's to say she wouldn't try to silence her or harm her? I am deeply concerned about Jaley's safety should the defendant be released on bond.
Starting point is 00:57:02 Jamie and Kristen had turned their lives around. They were actively involved in church, had found happiness, and were living a great life. They did not deserve what happened to them. I ask you please, please consider the following factors when deciding whether to grant a bond. My first concern is flight risk. The dependent has financial resources provided by the immediate family, which would enable her to flee. Her family maintains that she is innocent and given her manipulative, behavior, I believe she may attempt to flee.
Starting point is 00:57:51 Second concern is witness intimidation. The defendant has shown a pattern of intimidation towards family members and others with knowledge of the crime. I fear that if she's released, she will continue this behavior, behavior to silence anyone who could testify against her. The third concern is evidence. The brutality of these murders. is not in dispute. My family and I have seen the death certificates and although we are not aware of exactly how many shots were fired, we do know that there were multiple gunshots to both Jamie and Kristen. Personal safety if the defendant can kill her own parents in such a violent, own safety and the safety of my family and friends. The possibility that she could harm us is terrifying.
Starting point is 00:58:54 And I urge you to consider this in your decision. James's oldest son Tristan testified that just the thought of Sarah Grace being out on bail was terrifying for his family. The gruesome and violent details of this case have shown me that the defendant has a disturbing lack of regard for human life. If someone is capable of what happened here, then I can not ignore the real possibility that she could pose a threat to the those of us left behind, especially sheep were released on bond. This case has already caused immense pain and trauma to my family. The thought of the defendant walking free, even temporarily, only adds to our fear, anxiety, and inability to begin healing. And then a family friend read a truly heartbreaking statement on behalf of James' youngest son, Jaden. My name is Jaden Brock,
Starting point is 00:59:43 and I am 12 years old. I wanted to talk today because my dad and stepmom was shut. I was and killed. I miss him every day. My dad was my hero and the person I looked up to the most. We did everything together. He helped me with school and he always made me laugh and we joked around a lot. Since he died, everything has changed. I feel sad and confused. It's hard to sleep. It's hard to focus and it's even hard to smile sometimes. I still wait to hear his voice or see him walk through the door, but I know that will never happen again. What makes me more sad is I trusted Sarah and I loved her like a sister. Why would she do this to me and why would she hurt everyone like this? I don't understand why someone would do this, but I know it is not right. My dad and Kristen
Starting point is 01:00:49 didn't deserve this. No one does. And I don't think someone who could do something like this should be allowed to go free right now. I wouldn't feel safe and I would be so scared. Please think about what my family is going through. I hope you make a decision that protects us and remembers who my dad was. A good man, a loving dad who didn't deserve to die. Thank you for listening to me. After listening to both sides, the judge made his decision. If I weigh these witnesses' testimonies and I weigh what I hear today, I believe those closest, and I say closest in family relationship, expressed that they had vast concerns that she would have the ability to flee,
Starting point is 01:01:40 that she would be a danger to the community, that she would be a danger to them, that she would be posed a significant risk of intimidating, or actually I think the state steered away from intimidating or influencing and manipulating witnesses. By finding
Starting point is 01:02:00 that, I find the state has met their burden today by preponderance of the evidence. And Ms. Patrick, because of that, I'm bound by the law and I do not believe that you would be a proper candidate for bond.
Starting point is 01:02:18 So with that, it seemed pretty clear. Sarah Grace would be held in jail until her trial, which was set to start originally January 5th, 2026. But then January rolled around, and there was no trial. Instead, the defense said that they were still waiting on a report from a forensic neuropsychologist who had interviewed Sarah Grace. And the way that the defense talked about it, this report sounded like it could be a pretty major part of their case.
Starting point is 01:02:44 So naturally, that got people wondering whether Sarah might try some version of a an insanity defense, or whether or not her attorneys were planning to make her mental health part of their strategy. But that was also just speculation. No one actually knew what the defense strategy was going to be. Not yet anyway. What we did know was that the judge believed that the neuropsychologist report was important enough to delay the trial by seven whole months. So her new trial date was originally set then for August 26. But that delay? Well, that created a whole new problem, because seven more months before trial also meant seven more months with Sarah Grace sitting in jail. And not just jail, she was being held in solitary confinement.
Starting point is 01:03:27 So the defense argued that keeping a 17-year-old girl in solitary for another seven months, that could seriously damage her mental health, which fair argument. It absolutely could. So the judge held yet another bond hearing to decide whether Sarah should be released while she waited for trial. And at her first bond hearing, the defense did have people there to support her, However, they were people like her pastor, her friend's mother, not an actual family member who would be there to testify on her behalf. Meanwhile, it felt like practically James' entire family showed up so that they could speak against Sarah Grace. So this time, the defense really wanted to know whether or not any of Sarah's direct family members would be willing to stand up and vouch for her.
Starting point is 01:04:09 And it turns out, two of them were. Sarah's maternal grandparents ended up traveling to court so they could testify in her defense. In other words, Kristen's own mother and father were willing to stand behind their granddaughter who was accused of killing their daughter. And for a lot of people, that decision, it carries a lot of weight. Sarah's grandfather, Dennis, argued that Sarah Grace didn't have any resources to take off and disappear if she was released. She didn't have a driver's license, a passport, or any money.
Starting point is 01:04:39 So according to him, realistically, where would she go if she was released? Do you believe that Sarah is a danger to you or anybody else in this community? Not of all, no. Okay. Do you believe that she is a threat to intimidate any witnesses that may be a part of this case? No, absolutely not. Have you ever witnessed her threatening anybody or do any harm to somebody that you know of? No, not of all.
Starting point is 01:05:07 Okay. Do you know if she has a driver's license? She does not. Does she have a learners permit? Not that I know. Okay. Does she have a passport? No.
Starting point is 01:05:19 Okay. Are you aware of how she became arrested in this case? Yes, pretty much. Okay. Was she, did she turn herself in or did the police have to go get her? No, she turned herself in. Okay. And was that with you or with her father?
Starting point is 01:05:37 Her father. And is her father, um, Let me ask you this. Were you ever living, was Sarah ever living with you? No. Okay. Do you know of Sarah to have any access to any money that would allow her to leave this jurisdiction? No. No, no. If she is released on bond, would you be a part of the village to make sure she gets back here to court? Oh, yes, absolutely.
Starting point is 01:06:23 Okay. And the testimony from Sarah's grandmother, that was even. more impactful because she actually has custody of little Jaley, the witness that James's family was worried about Sarah potentially targeting. But according to the grandmother, Sarah Grace wasn't a threat to her at all. Do you have at this point custody of Jaley? Okay. And that is Sarah's little sister. Okay. Are you afraid for the safety of J. Lee as it relates to Sarah? Not in the news. Okay. Is there any of, Has Sarah ever made any threats to you or to Jaley at any point in time, but especially in relation to this case?
Starting point is 01:07:04 No. Okay. Has she tried to Talk to Jaley or change her testimony or anything like that that you're aware of? I'm not always I talk to Sarah every day and Jaley talks to her when she's here. They're just loving sisters talking to each other. Okay. Have you any reason to believe that she would flee the jurisdiction and not come back to court? Not at all.
Starting point is 01:07:36 Okay. Would you be a part of the community and village that would be responsible for making sure she shows up for court dates in the future? Okay. Now, I'm not going to lie. When I watched Kristen's own family stand by Sarah Grace and address the prosecution's original objections to the bond being set, my opinion did start to shift a little bit. I remember thinking like, okay, wait, maybe Sarah actually should be released. Maybe she's not a threat to her.
Starting point is 01:08:03 Maybe I'm not like looking at this entirely accurately. However, then that was short-winded because the court camera panned over to Sarah Grace while the prosecution was reading a letter from James's family and her expression said it all. She had the audacity to sit there, start rolling her eyes, even kind of smirking. So just like that, I mean my opinion, it shifted right back to where it was. Because to me, she didn't look like somebody who was terrified of solitary confinement or worried about her family or remorseful in the least. She looked like someone who was annoyed, annoyed that she wasn't getting her way.
Starting point is 01:08:38 Now, that of course is just my interpretation. You might read her reaction completely differently. So I want you to watch this clip and tell me what you think. We fear for our own safety. The loss that our family has suffered, has traumatized. us and left us vulnerable. The thought of the person accused of killing them being released into the community causes us constant anxiety and fear.
Starting point is 01:09:01 Bond would not only endanger witnesses, it would also place our family under continued emotional distress and fear for our physical safety. The accused is being charged with two malice murder counts. These are horrific and violent crimes in which she is being accused. The defendant's second bond request, this is the defendant's second bond request and nothing has changed that would justify reconsideration. The risks remain the same, if not greater, as the case moves forward and the consequences become more real. Our family would not be able to sleep in peace knowing that she is not in protective custody.
Starting point is 01:09:36 Judge is the state's position that on August 19th of 2025, she was a poor candidate for bond, and that as I stand here before you today, she remains a poor candidate for bond, and bond should be denied as such. So before the judge made his decision about bond, there was one more pretty important piece of the puzzle they needed to discuss. It came out that Kristen's parents, the same two grandparents who were now vouching for Sarah Grace, they had signed a six-figure media deal that was connected to the case, which that raised a lot of eyebrows, obviously. Apparently, they weren't actually supposed to receive any money until after Sarah's trial ended, yet still, the prosecution said that they could have had something to gain from Sarah Grace being released.
Starting point is 01:10:16 I mean, a six-figure deal, hello, that is not just like pennies, right? If she were out of jail, they could potentially have more access to her. more conversations with her, and ultimately more material for this future documentary. So that's when the judge finally gave his decision. It was clear that the media deal, that had raised quite a few concerns for him as well. So in preparing for this hearing today, I was prepared to listen for and hear anything that showed that there was a material change. As of right now, I don't see that there has been a material change.
Starting point is 01:10:52 The only real change that has happened, one, is the court date change. And then two, I don't believe I had the information in front of me that family members had signed contracts with different media companies at the prior hearing. So that's new material. When I look at this, when I ask the state and defense to come up when the witnesses were testifying when defense objected to the line of questioning that state had, my concern was I wanted someone to ask or bring up the question of drastic these statements because I, well, I know, and I hope the family hears this, I'm not doubting your love for your granddaughter or your
Starting point is 01:11:40 daughter. Is Mr. DJ here this morning? That's not in question. Okay, and I think I said this last So whatever ruling I make today, do not think that it is me determining your love and care for your daughter, right, or your granddaughter. With that said, I do have to consider some of the things that have changed and with these type contracts. If she were to be released, y'all could benefit from your, Ms. Williams actually used the term media frenzy. the more that's brought about, potentially the higher or more you as individuals would receive potentially. And so while that's not an Iola factor
Starting point is 01:12:29 that I have to evaluate, that is some of the change that in consideration of where she's going, who'd she be with and they play into the factors of what could happen. Based on doing that, I am going to stand with the original order that I gave, Vommel continued to be denied.
Starting point is 01:12:46 I do not find a significant material change in circumstances or facts that would, um, that would allow or require me to make a change in that prior ruling. So the prior ruling will still stand. So with that, Sarah Grace was once again sent back to jail to wait for trial. But then as that August 3rd date started to get closer and closer, the same damn thing happened all over again. The defense went back in front of the judge and said they still were not ready to try the case.
Starting point is 01:13:17 Part of the problem was that during that seven-month delay, Sarah's original attorney had left the public defender's office altogether. So that meant she had to be assigned a new attorney. And with that new attorney came a new legal team, a new group of experts, you know, the whole shebang. But apparently, this also went even deeper. The defense said that it had only recently learned about brand new evidence, evidence that could potentially blow the entire case wide open. And that evidence, it had to do with one of the
Starting point is 01:13:45 biggest pieces of this case, the murder weapon. On Friday, when I met with the state to go over the physical evidence, they sent a supplemental report from an officer with local law enforcement. The issue is this officer is in other reports. This officer is on the witness list. But from the The information we received, the information this Williams had, this officer literally didn't really do anything in the reports. He was just there. Now we find out that this officer did not write a report. However, he went to the DA's office literally last week and said, you know what? Well, and I'm sure they can correct me from wrong.
Starting point is 01:14:30 Mind it, Danny, this officer had a hunch that the gun that was possibly used for the shooey was pawned by a certain person. a certain person we never knew the name of from discovery sent over it yet. And that officer's hunch turned into it with to another person that had the gun, and the officer tested the gun, and they gave it back to the other first. We had no idea these two people existed. We had no idea this test existed. We had no idea there was a possible another gun. We had no idea there was a possible hunch.
Starting point is 01:15:03 We have no idea how the officer came to that conclusion. And again, Ms. Williams of the state announced ready for trial for January. The state didn't know about this. We are now in a position to where I honestly don't know. Was this one road officer that just did literally whatever he wanted to? We never reported to anyone else. Or is there more involved in this? I need to now follow up on the hunches.
Starting point is 01:15:31 I need to now follow up on how he even got to this conclusion. I need to now follow up on the two people. It is more than two people at this point. I can know about until Friday, literally Friday afternoon, that I need to now follow up, or find them, follow up on them. I need to go to the pawn shop to see what happened there.
Starting point is 01:15:51 I mean, there's so much more information that we have uncovered since I've taken over the case and I brought my team on that we can't fully be prepared to go forward with defending this. Now I'll be honest. He kind of lost me there between the chain of custody and who supposedly did what. So if you understood exactly what he was getting at, please drop it in the comments and let me know. Let help the rest of us out here a little bit. But regardless, it was apparently a big enough issue that the judge agreed to delay this trial once again. So now, for the third time,
Starting point is 01:16:25 we are basically right back where we started. The trial has been pushed back and Sarah Grace is sitting in jail waiting for it to start. Until then, we are left with the same. questions that we had at the very beginning. Is Sarah Grace actually the right person? I mean, yes, we know about the strange TikToks and her claims that she didn't hear the gunshots and all of that, but as suspicious as those things are, they don't automatically make her a murderer either. So what other evidence is out there? I mean, personally, I'm really interested to see whether Sarah's phone records and her digital history come into play in all of this. I'm sure that they will to some extent. But like, did investigators find any evidence that she planned this? Did she search for anything
Starting point is 01:17:04 suspicious or tell someone what she was going to do? I mean, you always know what I say, right? Google, it'll get you every time. And if Sarah Grace really is guilty, then we are left with another huge question that we asked at the beginning of this episode. Why? What was the motive? Why would a 16-year-old girl kill her mother and her stepfather and then leave her five-year-old baby sister to discover their bodies? We heard testimony that hinted at possible abuse inside the home, yes, Sarah's biological father also made some comments suggesting that there may have been drug problems, but are either of those things true? And if they are, could they have contributed to a motive? Or is there something more to the defense's whole mental health evaluation? I don't know.
Starting point is 01:17:49 Curious to know what you guys think. Let me know in the comment section below. I'm going to keep my eyes on this trial. Let me know if you want us to follow the trial closely because we absolutely can. And we'll see where it goes from here. All right. Until the next one, you know it. Say it with me, be nice, don't kill people, don't join any cults, and don't kill your parents. All right, bye.
