[♪ INTRO MUSIC PLAYING [♪ Hey, hey, hey! What's up guys? Welcome to another episode of Sex, Love, and What else Matters! Hey, honey.
Starting point is 00:01:05 Hello. Um, you guys, this is going to be so fun. Luke and I are going to do the best of. If you saw the title of this podcast, it's called The Best of. So we're going to run everybody back, basically we're firing up the time machine to look at some of our best episodes, as well as reflecting on our earlier days, where Chris and I weren't claiming to be together and our early days where maybe I stuttered a lot.
Starting point is 00:01:33 And I talked to other people. And I repeated myself too much. Anyway, we're looking at where we've come from, highlighting some of our best times and bringing it all to you now. Yeah, over the last year, we've only had this podcast for a year, which feels pretty crazy, and I'm really proud of what we've accomplished in the last year. We've both noticed our improvement from earlier episodes, now that we've been listening back, courage, bit like we said,
Starting point is 00:02:01 oh my god, for me, it was just holy shit, Did I talk over people? I think it was just very excited. You were definitely excited. Got all amped up. You're like, all right, it's go time, it's go time. Everything in my brain has to go into words. Yes, that is how this ADHD brain works. But what I loved of our in our first episode was how I referred to you as my better half.
Starting point is 00:02:23 And then I went, my better half in podcasting. And you said, well, I don't know if I'm your better half yet. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge. I did say that. And, you know, maybe I am now. That was such a flex. It was like a really cute flex. And then I said, like, oh my god, your voice is so sexy.
Starting point is 00:02:41 Back when you were still hitting on me. Do you know a movie this is from? It looks so sexy when you push your hair back like that. I wish I was quoting it correctly. It's from Mean Girls. That's failing miserably. That would have been in my top three gases. No, it wouldn't have.
Starting point is 00:02:54 You had no idea. Whatever you say. October 3rd. Mean Girls Day, whatever. You don't know that. You just said it because I said Mean Girls. No, I know that. Anyway, we're failing again
Starting point is 00:03:13 But what I loved about our first episode was that we said what I said was why I started the podcast and then why I really wanted to have Not only like a co-host a partner, but also why I chose you But I just kind of reflected on why I prefer to work in partnerships and I think that we've killed that. We've done well. We've obviously improved, I hope. For sure. I just mean overall. Oh yeah, yeah. Overall improvement, I believe we're there.
Starting point is 00:03:32 We're better at interviewing. Better at just bouncing off each other. Not interrupting, etc. I don't know. I'm sure plenty of reviews and comments will let us know where we have improved and haven't. Yes. reviews and comments will let us know where we have improved and haven't. Yes, so one of the things you guys have complained about and message us or written reviews about was my mouth smacking and telling me that I'm dehydrated, I have to drink more water, and what I had to learn as a podcast host is that I was holding the mic two damn close to my mouth.
Starting point is 00:04:03 So my apologies, you dicks, but I love you, and I appreciate you. So let's get started. All right, let's get after it. Okay, so we're gonna count down like 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 of our top five podcasts. Per you guys, per our listeners, the ones you love the most,
Starting point is 00:04:21 the ones that we're listening to the most. And number five, we have Holy Shit, it's Josh Pack. Josh Pack, what a good guy. I truly love Josh, he's awesome. This is one of my favorite podcasts we've ever done. Because I love Josh, I've been friends with him for, I can't even think how many years, like 16 years now at this point I've known him. We've become a lot closer. I'm like, I consider his wife one of my sisters from another
Starting point is 00:04:48 Mr. as well as her family. And I'm just so grateful for our friendship. And I'm grateful to have Josh as a guest for being so candid, so vulnerable. And just so fucking cool. He's a cool, upper-rated, Josh we love you. I'm grateful for his in-laws as well. Josh, your in-laws are awesome,
Starting point is 00:05:06 Kelly, Will, everyone's really cool. Yeah, I mean, Luke has become, we've become so close obviously with our family, but Luke is as well because when Paige, Josh's wife, her sister Blake got engaged, Luke flew in just to go to the engagement party. Just go to the engagement party. It's a see me. And a see, Kristen, of course. So I want to play a couple of clips from Josh's podcast episode with us because there were multiple things that jumped out of both of us that we loved about this episode. So I'm going to pick my clip and you can pick yours.
Starting point is 00:05:38 How about that? That sounds good for me. OK, so this was my favorite clip. First and foremost, I don't cheat because of me. Okay, so this was my favorite clip. First and foremost, I don't cheat because of me. Yeah. Because I'm not willing to sacrifice my peace of mind. Yeah. Like we are all witnesses to our own bad behavior. And it depends on how loud that voice is for you. Now I'm a sober guy for years. I was messing around and acting a fool and being a total cliche. And during that time, that voice was always there. And in the back of my mind, that voice that tells you to like, call your mom back. And like, your grandparents
Starting point is 00:06:17 would be ashamed of you for doing that. And all those, you know, that little voice that's there. Did you read my diary? You get it. Like your ancestors were ashamed of you. But like that voice for many years was very low, because I was in the grips of... Well, it's easy to shut it up. Yeah. Just to go.
Starting point is 00:06:36 And then, then, then, then, then, ignore, ignore. Yeah. When you're not mature enough, emotionally intelligent enough to want to be better, to, to, like you just said, like live a more peaceful life. Well, you know, at the end of the day, you have to, the one person you have to live with through your whole life is yourself.
Starting point is 00:06:52 Right. You know, so it's like, like layer, so right. So, like, you know, you're on your pillow at night, being like, even if you had a bad day, it's like, but I was a good person today and look at yourself in the fucking mirror every morning. It is wild.
Starting point is 00:07:03 Yeah, I just think we're all, we are witnesses to our own bad behavior. So it's not about karma or all these things. I mean, I'm sure that plays a part in it. But more so, I'm just not willing to sacrifice my own piece of mind with actions and things that I know are out of character for me. And so I don't want to look over my shoulder and I don't want to be worried about keeping
Starting point is 00:07:29 lies together and all of the things that come with that level of dishonesty. So in addition to like never wanting to let down or hurt like my wife, my family, my kids, and my in-laws who like I respect to the highest degree, but like, I just am not willing to walk around with that. I am literally too neurotic and paranoid and anxious to deal with that level of dishonesty. That's such an interesting fucking perspective because I feel that, like, in my fucking soul. Okay, damn, that was so good. So insightful. And Josh is an amazing father, an amazing husband,
Starting point is 00:08:09 an amazing friend. And I have known him since he was much younger. And to hear the emotional intelligence out of someone, well, look here younger than me. I just look at Josh as like this little brother at times. But what really stuck out for me was when he said, we are witnesses to our own bad behavior. It's so simple. It's simple, but it's true because we all have bad behavior behind closed doors where no one else is going to see it.
Starting point is 00:08:34 You know, you live with yourself at the end of the day. Josh said it great. He really did a fantastic job of illustrating it for us that at the end of the day, that should be your guiding light, in my opinion. It should lead you to what's gonna make you happier, what's going to bring you more joy in life. Totally, and to add on to that, not only is it about looking yourself in the mirror and everything you just said that Josh said, but also he added on his wife, his in-laws,
Starting point is 00:09:02 his children, his family, the people, the circle that is so small, that is so close to him, that he owes that to, because they, in my opinion, when you have that tight circle, you all owe it to each other, to be the kindest, most honest, most, sort of upright citizen, I guess, to that small circle. I couldn't agree more, and that's why that circle has to stay small, or you'll get lost in it.
Starting point is 00:09:25 Mm, hey. But yeah, so I just really, amongst other things, I mean, I love when Josh talked about, like, talking to his mom about the ring and proposing to page was another great part, but this one, his stance on cheating really stuck out to me in, like, the most mature fashion I've ever heard a man speak about it.
Starting point is 00:09:43 I couldn't agree more. And for any new listeners we have, I definitely recommend going back and listening to that episode. That was a very good one, very insightful. And I remember another part of that episode that really stands out to me more because it was a way I put my foot in my mouth and I didn't think it was going to happen. I asked him, well can I say, I don't think you put your foot in your mouth, but what I think is so interesting was that, but it was before we were recording,
Starting point is 00:10:10 Josh came over to my old apartment, and the three of us are just sitting there, shooting the shit and chatting up, and you had said, so what's going on and you're staying busy? You were just shooting the shit with our friend, right? Right, exactly, that's what I ask any of my old friends I haven't seen and why are you doing you keeping busy? Like keeping busy is like, yeah, you got stuff to do. I didn't realize in the
Starting point is 00:10:33 acting world that projects come and go, you've got to get it while it's there. And that's a question that can be very triggering to a lot of actors. So what I had said on the podcast, referencing when Luke had asked Josh, are you busy? I referenced in Josh's book, Happy People Are Annoying, that one of my favorite things that he said is that, quote unquote, like, what have you been up to is kryptonite for an actor. And that was so interesting because, yeah, I work in television, so I understood it,
Starting point is 00:11:04 but I think the way Josh explains it is phenomenal. I think you did a great job. Yeah, and in listening back, it definitely hit me a little different than it did at the moment because I have experienced the exact same thing. Green and I'm not an actor, but as an entrepreneur, as a person who kind of bounces between jobs and projects, you know, year after year, it seems like all the few years with one thing and then it can tail off all those interests. You know, that's something I need to work on myself with.
Starting point is 00:11:31 But anyway, when I get asked what I'm up to or you know how things are going and I'm saying busy, sometimes I'm not. Sometimes I've been on like a down month or two, you know, and I haven't had much going on. So someone asking me that does kind of put me on my heels. So I see where that comes from, especially with more time that I've spent in Los Angeles, there's a lot of pressure
Starting point is 00:11:51 out here. There's a lot more pressure. There's a lot more anxiety that just grows in the social world in Los Angeles that I can see it affecting somebody a lot more out here than necessarily. Then let's say it did me in rural Colorado or Indiana. Right. Within the entertainment industry. Exactly. Yeah. Okay, well let's play the clip because it's really it's dope. And the truth is most people probably aren't, you know, 99 to 10 people, especially if they care about you, they're not doing that thing where they're, you know, the fear was always, oh no, I hope they're not thinking of me.
Starting point is 00:12:27 It's just like yet another out of work actor, right? Which for most journeyman actors, this business is a reality. It's make hay when the sun shining. I forget what it's called. But like, it's seasonal almost, right? You'll have a moment and friends and I've talked about it where it's like, wow, like three or six months
Starting point is 00:12:48 or even a year where you're like, this is, if only every year was like this. And then it's like, oh no, now like get ready for the winter because it could be six months, it could be a year. And it could have nothing more to do with that. It's just not, right? You're not right in that moment. So yeah, luckily I've much more,
Starting point is 00:13:06 you know, I went over two years without working and I remember getting that question and it would elicit so much feelings where people like you were probably just asking that because people ask everyone that. Yeah, exactly. I was gonna say that's like a casual see a friend from the Midwest, I'm like,
Starting point is 00:13:21 Hey man, how you doing? You staying busy? Totally. Like that's just what you say. Yeah. But I mean, nothing behind it, you man, how you doing? You staying busy? Totally. That's just what you said. Yeah. But I mean, nothing behind it, you know, it's just like, don't do it on the due. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:13:30 It's the things that we connect to that question. And so luckily now I like can point to things that I'm working on and I feel like much more secure in that way, but surely I went through times where like, I felt totally leveled by that question. Because again, like you said, you don't know, you don't know what to bring up. Right. So, a couple of things, because I do love that clip a lot, listening to it back.
Starting point is 00:13:54 And a couple of things that struck me is when Josh used winter as an analogy for like the slow months, the kind of like you expect it, but it's like kind of a bummer. That brings me back to like the Midwest and Josh is from New York's from the East Coast, but it really is kind of like that you're like, oh winter, less daylight, like less time to do things kind of a, wait for the spring, you know? Yeah, just everything. Straight analogy. Josh also says it's the things we connect to the question, because you said it's so just sort of off the cuff like, oh, have you been busy?
Starting point is 00:14:28 And Josh as an actor who says in his book, this is Kryptonite, takes that in and like it means something different to him. Where me, just even like you said earlier, Luke, like living in LA, if people are like, oh, have you been busy? How are things? I'm like, oh, God.
Starting point is 00:14:42 What do I have to like? Oh, well, James may be doing great. The podcast is so great. God, what do I have to like, oh well James, face doing great, the podcast is so great, like, like what am I supposed to say? Like do I feel like lists all of my credits or it can be taken as a very loaded question even though it was said so innocently? Right and I was totally unaware of the level of anxiety that goes with just being here, like location related, anxiety is the thing, and Los Angeles.
Starting point is 00:15:10 So anyway, Josh is great, love that podcast. I'm sure there are a lot more clips we could pull from it, but I think we should move on to number four. What do you think? Yeah. Support for today's episode comes from one skin. Now that the holiday buzz is behind us, it's a great time to focus on self-care. Yeah, and also let's just say congratulations to Giannina and Blake because they are pregnant, they're expecting the spring. Luke and I found out we were pregnant right after they announced their pregnancy, so I did share it with Blake
Starting point is 00:19:29 because he's been a buddy for a little bit. And at the time, I was like, really excited. I'm like, holy shit, this is so cool. I've, you know, knowing someone who is. So Annie who, huge congratulations to Giannina and Blake because when we had them on their podcast, it was kind of about talking about them getting together and what their relationship was like and another pregnant.
Starting point is 00:19:51 Things move fast sometimes. It's so exciting. It is exciting. Yeah, it congrats to you both. Giannina, you look fantastic. I've seen this. Yes, oh my god. Gorgeous.
Starting point is 00:19:59 Baby shower was amazing. I saw all the photos. You guys, we love you. All right, let's play the clip. On, you know, the Basher, Basher at VIP and all those, you have probably like two to three interviews a day. I had five interviews the whole time I was down there. So it was just so different. It was very more just confessionals,
Starting point is 00:20:17 right? We just talked into the camera. There wasn't like so many leading questions. So it was amazing. It was an awesome experience. And the whole team over there, well, with Paramount Plus and MTV were fantastic. So I loved it, but I was scared different. And what about you? So it was amazing. It was an awesome experience and the whole team over there, with Paramount Plus and MTV were fantastic. So I loved it, but I was scared it for it.
Starting point is 00:20:29 And what about you, Janina? Like, were you reluctant? Were you excited? First off to your point, like, you're right. Like, people that have been on other shows. I think there's just like an underlying, like, understanding. First of all, like, who you are as a person, and what you've been through,
Starting point is 00:20:46 and, you know, kind of like how we can both, like, just relate with the fact that, I don't know, a lot of people will think that. And not judge, not judge the character you see on TV, because at the end of the day, this, you know, love is blind was not a show about you, and when you were on Bachelor at RBIP, it was not a show about you. There was a story
Starting point is 00:21:05 to tell. Like the showrunners, the producers, they make you a one-dimensional person. Yeah. So what were your feelings going into the All Star? Yeah, I mean, I'd gone through so much like turmoil, like emotional turmoil that I really wanted this to be something that I could just have fun at and like show people again like what he said like a different side to my personality and when I got the call for it I wasn't like necessarily nervous. I was actually in Columbia and I couldn't hear half of what it was. And I get the call.
Starting point is 00:21:52 This is the way. Yeah. So you just want the universe is again, like that's kind of sounds like the way you sort of lead your life, which I think is so beautiful. And so great. And what I really want, like in talking about this with you guys and all three of us being from different reality universes, we don't do these shows for our mental health, okay? And in fact, it's quite the opposite. You do these shows because it affords a subplatform to create businesses and to do other things, you know, with our life.
Starting point is 00:22:23 And obviously, we all love to entertain. And it's been proven that we're good at entertaining, right? And that's the fun thing. But it is really difficult. And I just think it's really cool that you guys fell in love so quickly. And I don't just adorable. Did you say I love you on the show? So I did, but behind his back.
Starting point is 00:22:41 Yeah, I didn't know she said it. Yeah. You said it to someone. He didn't know. You said it to someone else, like another person on the slide. I read it about him. To the camera. To the camera. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:52 Yeah, I was like, I love him. Oh, so exciting. It's adorable. This is where, like, in our first episode of Sex Level Nostalgia, as I said, I love love. I love fairy tale, like bullshit romance. I love it all. I'm obsessed with it.
Starting point is 00:23:09 I love being in love. And this episode with Jeanne and Nat and Blake made me so happy because it was just like, wow, look at two people who didn't know each other ended up on this reality show together. Not the first one they've done. And they ended up falling in love. And she said, I love you. Like, to camera before she even told him, another pregnant.
Starting point is 00:23:31 Like, oh, can you guys hear my heart bursting? I can see it in your face. You're so happy over there. And I love it. I love love. I love how much you love love. Thank you. And this is such a great story.
Starting point is 00:23:45 I mean, I wish them both, you know, everything. Yeah. Well, Luke, I want to ask you, how did you feel about our conversations, my conversations with Giannina and Blake about reality TV? Like does that resonate with you now? I mean, I know you don't know a lot of people on other reality shows other than Vannapump Rules, but now knowing what you know and what you've been through as of late,
Starting point is 00:24:08 what you've gone through as of late. Do you get why we gravitate toward each other? Because it's like, no one really knows what you go through when filming a reality show, except for other people that film a reality show. It's almost like a trauma bond. I get it. I get it now way more than I used to. I'll say that it is a very significant
Starting point is 00:24:27 life event or lifestyle and just something to experience that you have in common with someone else that is a pretty small group of people in general. I mean, it kind of also relates to working in the service industry, right? Because I feel like people that know the lingo, that have bartender, that have dealt with all the bullshit that you deal with as a bartender, as a server, as anything in the service industry, you kind of relate or gravitate toward other people in the industry because you have the same experiences. It's similar, but on a much more significant level as far as what you experience and a much smaller group of people. Yeah. I call, I'm referring to it as trauma bonding.
Starting point is 00:25:06 I say that because that's what I wrote just for you listeners out there. I refer to trauma bonding in reality TV to my cast members because they know exactly what I went through what they went through within our own television show. So maybe trauma bonding with someone else on reality TV isn't quite the way that I mean it, but in a way it is. It's like, we know the producer thing.
Starting point is 00:25:27 We know what's real and what's not. We know what to expect or the editing or the ins and outs of the filming part. And that's other than like they're adorable love for each other. It's something I found really interesting, not only for myself, but for the listeners, hearing the two of them talk about two totally separate shows that they were on before doing the show they did
Starting point is 00:25:51 together. Right, yeah, I get it. Now, I have an experience and I don't know very much about the whole Finding Love realm of reality TV, and I don't believe I ever will, babe. But they were on shows that were about finding love, and they didn't find love. Right, that's not where they found it, which is what is so cool.
Starting point is 00:26:08 I think it's really cool. Yeah, I agree. Yeah, you guys should listen to that episode if you haven't already, but I'm sure you have, because it's in our top five. One of the top five, it's number four of our most listened to episodes. So let's go on to number three.
Starting point is 00:26:24 And number three, we have screaming in fidelity with Dana Kathan. Oh, Dana, Dana shout out to Dana and Katie Maloney for their brand new podcast that's out right now called Disrespectfully. I've been waiting for Katie and Dana's podcast since Katie's episode on sex level, what else matters where she announced her departure from her previous podcast and it's finally coming out now. I've watched like clips from their show and I'm just like could not be more excited about their new podcast. But back to me and Dana. Dana was, if you guys don't know, she's a former cast member of Vanderpum Rules. We both ended our time on Vanderpum brules
Starting point is 00:27:06 at the exact same time. What I loved about our podcast Dana is that she talked a lot about body shaming and how grossed out she was about it. And she also discussed so much vulnerability. And I think that's my favorite thing about Dana. My little Leo is that she is so vulnerable, so fucking honest, to a T. I almost said to
Starting point is 00:27:27 a fault, and it's not a fault, and that's what I love about Dana. She's like, be upfront, be straight with me, and I respect you. I loved our podcast with Dana. She's very well spoken. She is very to the point. She knows herself very well, which is not something that you find. I feel like you don't find that much anywhere. People, everyone's questioning themselves who they really are trying to find out, figure
Starting point is 00:27:51 out what motivates them. Dana knows exactly who she is, she knows exactly what she's looking for, very well spoken, very good guests, and also one of the things that stuck out to me that I remember specifically was her commenting on bisexual versus bi-romantic. Do you remember that? Absolutely. Yeah, so bi-romantic means you can date men and women. Bisexual means you are open to sexual experiences with men and women.
Starting point is 00:28:16 And yeah, and I think it's just so fucking eye-opening. Like, be curious. Ask questions. She's here to answer those questions, you know what I mean. But let's play a clip from one of my favorite parts about Dana. I've made it my business over the last few years to be very selective of who I surround myself with, and it has been the recipe for success and happiness and fulfillment. I'm very careful about who is in my circle, and it's not like I wouldn't be kind to people I met, but I'm also,
Starting point is 00:28:45 I am very intuitive and I do take note of who people are. I very quickly can clock who someone is. When I meet them, what their vibe is, whether they have good intentions or not. What did you clock me as? I thought you were very eccentric and I thought that you were a nice way to say K out of. No, I think I mean, K out of goes without I think that what I clocked of you is that you are very sincere and a very true friend. And I still say this about you all the time. Like you're someone who will go to the ends of the earth for not even people you deeply love, but people that you even have any type of connection with.
Starting point is 00:29:21 And I think that's a very special thing that is kind of rare. Did you think that about me the one time that we've ever, you were ever mad at me. I wouldn't even call it we were in a fight because that was, okay, first of all, that was a fucking weird time. And of course I didn't. I thought you were snatched at the time. But I was, but I would have snatched me.
Starting point is 00:29:39 Wait, I thought that was a good thing. Snatched like, snatched is like, I'm pretty sure a way of saying, pussy. But it's like, I don't know, it's another word of, like, I don't know, bitch or something, but I know I just know fucking slang, y'all. So it's yours. I'm very old, okay.
Starting point is 00:29:55 I just got choked up. I just got choked up because listening to Dana compliment me in a way that like resonated with my heart more than I think I've ever been complimented. I love that she said chaotic goes without saying, but it was with so much love not making fun of me or not like toying with me even the Christen you talk too fast or too much or you're erratic or you're this. She's like, yeah, chaotic goes without saying, but the amount of love that I have in my heart
Starting point is 00:30:30 toward people that are my friends, let alone people that I don't even know very well, just seriously choked me up. That was very nice and hit the nail in the head. You're definitely the person that, you know, you see something good in somebody and if they're in crisis, you're willing to drop what you're doing to come to the rescue, come to their need, you know, be see something good in somebody and if they're in crisis, you're willing to drop what you're doing to come to the rescue Come to their need, you know, be there for them. My favorite thing about this clip specifically with Dana is When she explains who she is and what she stands for and I realized over the course of time After having this moment with her. I learned to start paying attention to myself
Starting point is 00:31:06 and to my gut and going, mm-hmm, that doesn't look right. She listens to her intuition, right? She knows, this isn't right. Nope, that's not my small circle. I don't need to fuck with that. And I started learning to do that. And I really value my friendship with Dana and look up to her in that way.
Starting point is 00:31:24 Because she is so kind and so loving and so giving, do that. And I really value my friendship with Dana and look up to her in that way. Because she is so kind and so loving and so giving. But she also loves herself so much that she won't sacrifice that for someone else's bullshit. I love that. And that's all great. I only wish that I would have asked her her first impression of me because this was very early on in our relationship and I think people had plenty of thoughts about me and I didn't ask very often. Well then we have Dana back on again, duh.
Starting point is 00:31:52 Okay, perfect. She was a pod swap. 100% let's do it. Katie lives like the good band, three doors down, bad dad joke, here we go. But you guys, I highly recommend listening to that episode as with all of these, but screaming in fatalities with Dana Kathan, and you'll get to hear the rest of it
Starting point is 00:32:09 because if you watch Vanderpump rules on our last season at the reunions which we shot remotely because it was during COVID, we discuss our hair dying jobs and mostly the fight, the one fight, the Dana and I got it about Max. And what I liked about that, I'll just throw it out there super quickly. What I loved about that is that Dana and I got to share it with everyone else, but we also got to talk about it one on one, which we really hadn't done yet, and that in reality
Starting point is 00:32:42 TV, I was told to save that news until then. But I knew in my heart of hearts I should have just gone to Dana regardless because it did paint Dana in a certain light that was not accurate at all. It made her look like some crazy girl who was obsessed over Max, our friend, when really that wasn't it. All Dana wanted was for me to be up front with her. And I had that opportunity and I didn't take it. So that's a huge lesson that I learned,
Starting point is 00:33:11 and I'm very grateful that I still have a friendship with her and that we were able to communicate about that. On to number two. Number two, I'm getting excited. Number two is spilling the tea with Peter Madrigal. I like Peter. I don't care what anyone says. I fucking love Peter.
Starting point is 00:33:30 Peter's great. He says he's Switzerland at the same time. He's got a lot of opinions. He totally does say he's Switzerland, but he's not. He isn't because he has a moral code, a moral guiding light that tries to direct people. At the same time, I think him saying he's Switzerland is, he doesn't want to take sides when he doesn't know all the facts.
Starting point is 00:33:52 He wants to know that he's right and that he's gathered all the data he's going to, that he knows that this is the way he is interpreted it and this is 100% how he feels. He doesn't want to put something out there and join to have someone's back with a bunch of information out there. He might not know.
Starting point is 00:34:08 That's the way I see it. No, I love that. Okay, let's listen to the clip. I want to just go off on a little bit of attention here. When I first started working at Sir, this will be a fun little tidbit. I was so greedy. Yeah, Luke doesn't know.
Starting point is 00:34:23 Well, I was directly so Luke I was directly out of college. I just graduated USC when I started working at Sir Okay, and I was hired by Guillermo Zapata himself Guillermo? Yeah, one of the first people I met it was Christina Loha and Kristen Dody and Kristen Dody taught me how to fold napkins at the time. Wow, okay. She's like, she sat there, she's like, you know, she just got done smoking a cigarette and she was all like, okay, Peter, so this is the way, this is the way we fold the napkins here.
Starting point is 00:34:53 She taught me the entire way to fold the certain napkins. We probably had like 12 employees at that time. Yeah, it was a very small crew. We had no liquor license. No, we didn't. We, we, we, no lounge. We could, yeah, it was, it was just the, Sir Restaurant, the original from 1998.
Starting point is 00:35:12 Yeah, that, that, that, little, little Argentine cafe, if you know. Exactly, yes. We could only serve Sangria and beer, and that was it. Yeah. And she taught me how to fold all the napkins. You think it'd be good at origami,
Starting point is 00:35:24 but I don't read for you in information. You know what's funny is that she talked about origami. She's like, Peter, this is about, and then another thing that she taught me was like, she's like, how are you gonna carry glasses, Peter? I was a buster at the time. Now I'm Peter surmanager. Well, you're one of two that has actually worked
Starting point is 00:35:41 every single shift you could imagine in that restaurant. Yeah. Especially this one a year. Exactly. I feel like you're basically a co-owner and they need to give you equity hands down. I'm down for that. But so... Just gift it to you.
Starting point is 00:35:53 Like for your fucking birthday, they should be like, you know a Peter, we're giving you some equity. I like that. That's a good idea. Just so we know, it still stands. I think Peter just deserves gifted equity at Sir Restaurant. It's been there a while, he's been managing a while. As far as equity goes, as no one are, they're not going to hand it out.
Starting point is 00:36:12 I think they should gift it to him for Christmas, so I'm just throwing it out there. Or his birthday, it's in June, June 13th. Fair enough. But you got a lot of Peter up. This is really catching me up. This is a huge episode for me to understand Kristen's relationship with Sir, I knew that she was one of the first ones there, really the first one there of the main cast of Anupalm.
Starting point is 00:36:30 Kristen is the original Sir OG and hearing this stuff from Peter just solidified everything and brought into perspective his relationship with Kristen because I didn't know much about it. Yeah, and I don't think a lot of people do because number one, I still stand Peter, as the kids say. I stand him for Vanderpump rules or for another show moving forward.
Starting point is 00:36:51 I don't think he got enough airtime as he should have. I think Peter's so interesting. I love Peter's zest for life. And I love how many endeavors that he loves to pursue as an entrepreneur. And I think he's just such an interesting fucking person, such a good friend. He's like part of my LA family, to me. He's family, as I like to call it, friends and family.
Starting point is 00:37:15 And what I loved about this episode, obviously this was hysterical in talking about our very early, early days of 2007, 2008. But I feel like, if you guys haven't heard this episode, you need to, because you really will get to know him on a much more personal level than just being, ha ha ha, hashtag PeterSurfManager. That's fair. I think after this episode, I felt like Peter was my friend. Well, he is your friend. Well, he is, I'm saying, it was the first,
Starting point is 00:37:42 I don't know if it was the first time we met, but the first time we ever really talked. I feel like anyone listening to this will feel like Peter's their friend, though, to a saying, it was the first, I don't know if it was the first time we met, but the first time we ever really talked. I feel like anyone listening to this will feel like Peter's their friend though, to a chest and what you just said. That's probably true. I don't know, he's just a blast and his enthusiasm makes me excited about doing things.
Starting point is 00:37:56 He is excited, he's a go-getter, he is a workaholic, he is always going after the next thing while holding down his sur manager job. So, you know, Kudos to him for that and all of his endeavors. I agree with you, I wish he would have had more time on VaynerPump, more air time. But who knows, maybe there'll be a Peter show in the future.
Starting point is 00:38:17 Yeah, all right, Peter, we love you so much. And now we're at number one. The one, the best. And I believe everyone can guess what this is going to be about. Dun dun dun dun dun dun. So at number one, we have the hashtag scandival with SE Cup. Not gonna lie, I love everyone, but I was probably the most excited about having SE on our podcast. Before we got into this, I didn't know who SE Cup was.
Starting point is 00:38:50 I realized the gravity or just how significant it was to have her on for this get as the guest for this episode. Like the breaking of Scanival. Maybe unexpected guests to a lot of our listeners. I don't know. I'm not sure. Like did they think I was going to have on a Vanderpump cast member? Was it just going to be us? Or was I going to have the one the only Sarah Elizabeth Cup author, political commentator, like CNN host, Bravo lover of all kind, and my Bravo Bestie is what I say
Starting point is 00:39:22 that on the podcast on this episode. But she really is my Bravo Bestie. what I say that on the podcast, on this episode. But she really is my Bravo Bestie. And I was lucky enough to do two episodes of Watch What Happens Live with Essie. And the first time I was absolutely terrified, I make she so smart, she has it all together. Also, on top of just all of her accolades and like everything she has credited toward her, she is a Bravo Hollic and knows everything about everything. And I don't know a damn thing outside of the world I was living in. Yeah, that's so crazy to me. And I'm guessing she was kind of the bridge to CNN picking up
Starting point is 00:39:54 Scandival, you know, hearing about Scandival. Oh, I wonder. Yeah, right. CNN picking up the Scandival stuff just kind of blew my mind that it got to that level that Tom's and of all cheating on Ariana on Vanderpump rules made it to this national level where people have never heard of Vanderpump rules now have and they've heard of Scandival and SE Cup to me was the bridge for that. That's so interesting and it's not nothing I've really thought of before but like good POV. Yeah I think it's part of Scandal all blowing up. I think you should pat yourself on the back
Starting point is 00:40:27 a little bit, Kristen. I mean, no. No. I think it was like TMZ, then everyone picked it up, and it just became a damn thing. I don't know. I still to this day to be very honest, don't know how it reached the platform
Starting point is 00:40:43 and the amount of people that it did over a cheating scandal. But just having SE on this was I couldn't think of a better person. Like in all of my wildest dreams, I was so lucky and so fortunate to have a friend relationship with her to have her phone number that I could just shoot her a text and say, you're the one I want to break this on my podcast. And I couldn't have asked for more. So that's amazing. I don't know that we'll have any scan of all level news, but I do think we should have SE back on here a couple months.
Starting point is 00:41:17 Oh, yeah. Because in a couple of months, because we're going to have some things to talk about that are going to be pretty epic and explosive. Exactly. Things are going to change a little bit on this podcast in the next couple of months. So yeah, I've got that. Maybe like around March. Guys, but let's listen to this. Let's listen to April, May.
Starting point is 00:41:34 Let's listen to this clip with AC. You know, Tom Isch. Yeah, Ben A'Rome for it. In the surface, I've had many conversations with him, but just to me, it blows my mind how anybody can keep something like that going. Like how they can convince themselves that things are okay. Like what they're doing is not going to make their whole world blow up. He couldn't probably still hasn't wrapped his whole head around everything.
Starting point is 00:41:58 No, because he's living in Tomworld. It's not just you break up. You're in the public eye. Like he said, he's the most hated man in America at the moment. I don't think he's all that coming around. He just went on and played a show the other night. And I don't know. What do you think?
Starting point is 00:42:14 There has to be some level of either delusion or arrogance when you're living a lie like that for so long to not think. This is really, as Luke just said, this is gonna blow up my life at some point. How do you not anticipate that and mitigate against it and try to limit the collateral damage? I mean, none of that happened. None of that happened. Instead, you just let it blow up.
Starting point is 00:42:37 And I'll say as someone who is previously one of the most hated people in the Bravo universe, for sure. I've always loved you, but go ahead. I love you too. But like, let me backtrack for a minute. Let me tell you, the thing that broke my heart almost the most was the day when I went over Ariana's Friday, two days after.
Starting point is 00:42:55 I went over her house and she had just done, she was just done filming interview bites for the show because they have obviously now picked up cameras, again, the recording, all of everything that's going on. And I walked in, she hugged me. We both started crying. She said, thank you. And then she said to me, oh God, I'm going to cry. She goes, I'm so sorry. I was like, are you out of your damn mind? Oh my God, I have chills. This is not the same thing. Tom and I, for the record, everybody like we should have broken up after year two. We stayed together for three, almost four more years.
Starting point is 00:43:30 We cheated on each other. We were very toxic, we were broke, we were young, we just, we were idiots. They have been in a decade-long partnership. As adults. Like essentially a marriage without certificate. They brought a house together, like how crazy. Like, just, yeah. Like that's a commitment. That's a true commitment. And for her to apologize to me,
Starting point is 00:43:52 I can't believe it. Because she didn't listen to me or because of the way that their relationship started, like no. And that was why I took to social media almost immediately when I heard about it because I was so tired of everyone saying, oh my God, this is Ariana's karma. And the way you got him is the way you lose him and is like, what the fuck is wrong with you people? Like this is a human being who is in so much pain. A human being who is not a confrontational person,
Starting point is 00:44:21 someone who, she's a bite or not a barker. Yeah. Like Ariana doesn't talk shit, she doesn't run her mouth, personal person, someone who she's a bite or not a barker. Yeah. Like Ariana doesn't talk shit, she doesn't run her mouth, she stays quiet until she's gonna strike. And there's no karma about any of this except what's coming to Santa Valle and Rakell at the end of all of it. Not to mention, I mean, this is why you're such a good friend too, because you like see
Starting point is 00:44:41 above all of that. But, I mean, this is a reality, except it's also people's lives. And this shit's real. I mean, you know, Gen Chog going to prison, Trees going to prison, this 10 year relationship ending, that's real, that's real stuff that I know you all have to live with when the cameras are off. And so who cares about the karma storyline?
Starting point is 00:45:01 This really is devastating. And I can't believe she said that to you. I mean, yeah. Wow. Wow, wow, wow. Wow. Does that take you back or what? That was so fresh. Like in the moment of Scandival when we recorded that episode. Holy shit. Yeah. It takes me literally I can close my eyes and see myself sitting next to Ariana eating sliders at Tom Tom the night that happened. Listening to that, it takes me right back to that moment, not knowing at the time that
Starting point is 00:45:32 it was as significant as it was. But then she left her stuff and we're looking for Ariana to give her a coat and everything and she and Tom have left to talk about this. We had no idea. We had no idea, no one had any idea. Yeah. At this point, it's just, it's crazy. Yeah, I go, the words are hard. It was wild. And I want to give a quick shout out to Ariana,
Starting point is 00:45:53 as I always do, but it's still wild to me that people like question our friendship, but they're like, oh my god, they see these clips of us that were rarely aired on Banner Pump Rules and whatnot. And I'm like, oh my god, this is the friendship that I love. And I want to say when Luke and I went through, what we went through in the last few months, as busy as Ariana was, I always got a text
Starting point is 00:46:15 that was either like thinking of you. How are you? Or if I hadn't heard from her and I texted her for like the third time per me the way that I work, she would be like, you've been on my mind so much. Just those tiny little things that make me feel so loved and so seen and heard, it's all it took. And she's so fucking busy.
Starting point is 00:46:34 And it just really meant a lot to me. She's busy, but Ariana, I have to give Ariana props, which I have plenty of times before. But she is so real, the same person always, no matter, at least in my experience, I can only speak from Ryan or I. Absolutely right. I can only speak from Ryan or I.
Starting point is 00:46:51 Absolutely right. Doesn't matter what crowd she's in, doesn't matter where we are for in San Francisco. If we are, I guess at a bar, where we are, Ariana is always the same person. She's amazing. We were at Dancing With The Stars, right? Same person. She's still very humble, at Dancing with the Stars, right? Same person.
Starting point is 00:47:05 She's still very humble, considering how everything's blown up and how everything's changed for her. It's incredible. I'm a big fan. Ariana, you're amazing. Yeah. And just having SE on this episode to talk about the scandal in a way as a bravo viewer, but also as a wife, as a mother, as a lover, as a fighter.
Starting point is 00:47:27 And to get a sees perspective on it was just phenomenal. I feel like that's a life to say. You guys, I'm sure you've all heard that episode. But if you're new to our podcast and you haven't, you have to go back to the hashtag scandival with a seeub because she's brilliant, so well spoken, especially when I'm like, ah, words are hard, I don't even know what to say. She's like, here, let me do it for you, girl. I got you.
Starting point is 00:47:53 She's a pro. She's a real pro. Yeah. Ooh, what do you think, babe? I don't know. I'm one year. We're just over a year now. I'm so proud of us.
Starting point is 00:48:03 Listeners, we love you., followers, all of you guys that comment, subscribe, we see you, we love you, we hear you. We really wanted to get into another segment tonight of our unprofessional relationship advice. But I think we're going to just leave the best of as the best of, and we're going to continue that next week. So please keep sending your emails.
Starting point is 00:48:24 We've gotten a bunch. We're really excited. We have some good, we definitely have some good ones. I have one in particular. I cannot wait to talk about it. And I was really hoping we'd have time today. But I guess we'll wait for next week. And you know, you guys can flood our email or DMs or whatever with these stories.
Starting point is 00:48:41 We could have a whole second episode about this. I would love that. So send them our way. Yeah, and they're all anonymous, don't worry. Just because we see your email address, nobody else knows your name. They're anonymous unless you specifically would like us to mention your name or the title
Starting point is 00:48:58 or anything that can, I guess, draw attention so your friends can hear something about that. Oh yeah, and if you wanna shout out, like, give me, like, let me know your yeah, if you want to shout out, like, give me, like, let me know your shout out. Kristen loves the shout outs, so. I love shout outs. I love them.
Starting point is 00:49:11 And if you guys want to give me less than five stars because I say the word shout out, I'm sorry, I'm a millennial, it's what I do. Hey baby. What's up? I would do anything for love. But I won't drive to LAX during rush hour on a Friday. But you will buy an Uber.
Starting point is 00:49:29 I will buy an Uber. We will send the Uber. I did it to my own mother. That's so fun. Mom, I love you. I'm really sorry I left you hanging that one time, but I drove halfway to LAX and went, this isn't happening. It's not worth three hours.
Starting point is 00:49:41 I will call you a black car. It is worth $150 rather than three hours of my time. I think at the end of the day, it's worth your sanity. Sandy, just being happy, the traffic is going to ruin your mood, guaranteed. There are people who are going to cut you off. Are you taking mine as well? Or I would do anything for love, but I won't do what? I would do anything for love, but I won't do what? I would do anything for love but I won't do.
Starting point is 00:50:06 Won't call a new word for $150 bucks. No, you know what, that's fine. Money is the most replaceable thing on the planet. They keep printing more so there's always more to be had. I wish they would just print enough for everybody to be like, just fine. Then milk is $20 a gallon. I don't know, I'll never get the inflation thing.
Starting point is 00:50:26 Now we're getting boring. I'll do anything for love but I won't give up my dog. Oh well goes without saying so that's a great one. Well hasn't been said yet so. Okay fair. There it is. All right good one good job. Well you guys we love you so much. Thank you for listening to the best of if If you haven't heard these past five episodes, please go back, listen, enjoy it. Rate us five stars. Subscribe, all the stuff. We're going to have so many amazing new guests for 2024. We're really going to step up our game and we are working on the video aspect because
Starting point is 00:51:01 what the fuck? The video and we don't want to surprise anyone, but we are considering a new title to the podcast. So we are also open to random submissions. If you want to send us ideas for new titles for our podcast, for Kristen's podcast that I assist on, however you want to look at it, send us your ideas because we are coming up with ideas but aren't in love with any of them.
Starting point is 00:51:21 Happy to hear what you have to say. Yeah, we love sex, we love love, and we love everything else that matters. But I feel like, when Luke and I started this, we were super stoked, and now I feel like we maybe pigeon-hold ourselves a little bit, it's a little niche. And I wanted to just be able to talk about whatever the fuck, you know, just everything.
Starting point is 00:51:39 Right, and we have, but at the same time, I don't know, new title might be fun. Might be fun, why not? New year, new me, new start. Eh, just kidding. All right, we love you guys so much and we'll talk to you next week. Thanks for listening everyone.
