Hey, this is Brad Wall.
This is Dr. Pierre-Core.
Hi, this is Frank Paredi.
This is Daniel Smith.
This is James Lindsay.
This is Vance Crowe, and you're listening to the Sean Newman podcast.
Welcome to the podcast, folks.
Happy Thursday.
How's everybody doing today?
Today is going to be pretty light.
I'm not going to lie.
Brothers in the studio, well, two of the three brothers, I should say.
Don't want to spoil it.
Regardless, with everything going on,
on in the world.
But, you know, let's have a little bit of fun today, shall we?
We've got the NHL playoffs starting here in just a couple weeks.
And if you're new to the show through the NHL playoffs, I'll explain this all over again.
But regardless, we talk to NHL playoffs once a week.
And it just becomes a bonus episode each week.
This week, it's going to be Thursdays.
Regardless, before we get there, when it comes to silver gold, precious metals,
yeah, look no further than Silver Gold Bowl.
They're the company.
I point number one to because when it comes to precious metals,
they can help you with their in-house solutions,
whether buying, selling, storing precious metals.
You can text or email, Graham, for details
with any questions you have around investing in precious metals
or for feature deals exclusively offered to you the SMP listener.
You can find them at silver, gold bowl.cate or dot com,
depending which side of the border you're on,
and if you just go down on the show notes,
you can find Graham's number there.
You can text them, you can call them.
You can get to all your questions answered.
Ignite distribution is a high service supply company based in
Raynwright, Alberta, specializing automotive parts and a wide range of additional products,
including safety equipment, welding supplies, fasteners, and janitorial items,
operating as a Napa Auto Parts retailer.
Well, look no further than Ignite Distribution to help you manage your inventory.
And that's Shane Stafford, 780842-3433.
You won't find many better than Mr. Stafford, and tell them I sent you.
We got Caleb Taves Renegade Acres.
When it comes to concrete, there are few that are as talented.
as Caleb. He's a solid, solid man, and what I mean by that is character-wise, folks.
And actually, you know what? Sorry, Caleb. Stature-wise, I wouldn't want to mess with him either.
And when it comes to Stamp Concrete, all those wonderful things, when I had Layton in studio,
he couldn't figure out what it was. And then I told him, he's like, oh, wow, that is, huh, that's something.
That's how good a renegade Acres work as, he fooled Mr. Leighton, Gray.
If you're listening or watching on Spotify, Apple, YouTube, Rumble, X, Facebook, Substack.
Make sure to subscribe.
Make sure to leave a review.
Make sure to share with a friend.
And if you're on Substack, my apologies.
We came off of the Cornerstone Forum.
I've been saying this a lot lately.
The week before Cornerstone Forum,
it was everything I could do to put on what I was hoping was a great show.
The week after, I was like, I was useless to everybody.
It was just nice not to have that stress.
And Substack has been the one that took the beating on that.
Obviously, you can go and find all the Cornerstone Forum there,
but we finally got all the Sustack.
episodes back up and running on there. So if you're falling on in Substack, my apologies, but
Substack, now back up there. You can find every episode up and rolling on there. So whether you're
watching there or elsewhere, make sure to subscribe, make sure to leave a review on Apple and Spotify. I'm
picking on you specifically. Those two platforms at the top, you can leave a review. You can be like
twos and think it's funny and leave it too. And maybe you feel like I'm a two. That's fine. Leave a two.
And if you're enjoying the show, leave a five. You know, if you're feeling.
and generous and rate the show. It just helps. All of it helps. And you are all wonderful. You're
all helping in your own way. It's a nice simple way to scroll up, leave a rating and bump that number
a little higher and see if we can't get those numbers just to touch up. Appreciate all of you.
Now, enjoy a brother's roundtable on a Thursday. Let's get onto that tale of the tape.
The Big Man, the Birdman, the Engineer, and the Golden Child.
Four brothers arguing about sports.
So buckle up.
Here we go.
All right.
Welcome.
Are you done?
Are you done?
Welcome back, folks.
Brothers Roundtable.
And wouldn't it be fitting if when everybody agreed the oldest didn't show up?
So no Jay here today.
It seems fitting that we do this in preparation for the NHL playoffs.
If you're new to this, I'm sure I've got some folks going, what the heck is going on?
The brothers, when it comes to the NHL playoffs,
playoffs we do a podcast once a week it's in addition to everything else this week it is actually
thursday's episode but normally in a in a week it'll come out wednesday afternoons roughly
and we discuss the nchl playoffs and we'll see if the eminenton oilers give another run this year
before we get to that i want to get to this uh an episode sponsor how's that guardian plumbing and
heating these guys been keeping homes farms and businesses running smoothly since 2010 and gentlemen i
talked to blame before i came in and he's like well i'm not really a hockey guy i'm like
I know Blaine, but I like supporting local.
These guys have supported me.
And when it comes to expert service cutting edge power solutions or advice you can trust,
the boys over at Cardium Plumbing and Heating has your back.
And you can visit them at Cardiumplumbing.com.
How's that to start it out?
All I was going to say is kind of actually fitting that Black Team lost,
even though I was on Black Team this time.
And No J.A. with Black Team.
So White clinches the series there.
There was six skaters on our team by the end of the game
If anybody's wondering what us
Yeah, who's they're talking about
We're talking about noon hour hockey
We just came from it
And Dust lost
Jay is also on that team
Also fitting Jay is not here because
No I think Jay is on Team White
Is it?
Yeah I think he always switches over
Because we're short players
Or I should say Team Blacks short players
Regardless once a week
We come in here
We discuss NHL playoffs
That is what this is
If you are not a fan of hockey, well, buckle up because you're in for some expert, not so expert opinions on what the heck's happening.
And before we get into anything hockey, can we just talk quickly about the fact the liberals got another person to floor cross a long-term conservative?
I mean, Jay's not here.
So, you know, the politics can just seep in just for 10 seconds.
We're going to have a liberal majority next week, aren't we?
Yes.
Yes.
They got three by-elections happening.
I think it's Monday.
I mean, me and two's have been talking about this for a while.
So either way, nothing surprising at this point.
Thanks for hopping back in, gentlemen.
Now, Harley goes, what are we going to talk about?
What are we going to talk about?
Tell you what we're going to talk about.
We're going to talk about the Emmett & & & others to start with.
Okay?
We're just going to say, well, that's a given.
Well, I know it's a given.
Sorry, Nick and any flame fan out there, too's.
Okay.
Are they in the playoffs this year?
I don't, I don't know.
Maybe we should check the standings as far as Flam.
They're in the running for first overall.
All they need is a lottery to go through for them.
Calgary?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Sorry about your luck.
Okay.
Let's start with the others.
Before we get into wild card standings, okay?
There's a couple of question marks.
Hyman's supposed to be back.
Is he actually healthy when he comes back?
See, this is not the other's biggest problem.
What is the other's biggest problem?
The same thing it's been for the last three seasons.
Goaltending.
I don't know.
Their defense last night looked horrific.
Yeah, but okay.
Their defense is fine.
It's the same that went to the Stanley Cup final for the last three years.
Well, their goaltending is the same and they went to the Stanley Cup finals for two years.
I know. But why didn't they win?
Their goaltending is not been good for how many years?
How many years?
Will the Oilers Brass just listen to the fans, for the love of Pete, and go, what do we need to address in the offseason?
Goaltender.
It has been like this since Mike Smith, has it not?
Mm-hmm.
Let's just get a goaltender.
Can we get a goaltender?
No, we're not going to get a goal tenor.
Then we're going to trade Stuart Skinner for Tristan Jari, who has been,
worse than Stuart Skinner.
Yes. And now you got Connor
Ingram in there. As your starting guy.
Yeah. Like that's what we're going into playoffs
with. Correct. You got a good team.
And you've got
a couple years left with McDavid.
You've got the worst goaltending
and maybe the league?
It's got to be close.
Awfully close. I tell you what, though. Utah was all
freaking over them.
And their D, I was just like,
come on boys, just move the puck.
Move puck. Move puck.
Don't have to hold on to a tool.
Just move puck.
Nope, it's in the net.
All right.
Utah is sneakly better than what you think they are.
They remind me of the Seattle Crackin, the year they upset the Colorado Avalanche.
Just work hard.
They work hard.
And if you overhandle the puck, they're on you so hard, they just cause turnovers.
And they got a couple of guys that can fire the biscuit.
I mean, I think, you know, I haven't watched a ton of the weather this year, right?
I'm full stop.
I mean, like, my world, like, I'm watching.
way too much of Pierre Poliev and Mark Carney and Donald Trump and everything else, right?
So I click on the game and I'm watching it and I'm just going, you just got to move the puck up.
It's as simple as that. Utah is going to press you because that's what they have. They are all energy.
How many games of the Oilers lost like five, four this year? They score four or five goals and lose.
the one
the one thing I always think of
when we were growing up
is as defensemen
Sean and I
the one thing
I was always told anyways
was you get one pass across
and then you're moving it forward
we are not doing
four passes back and forth
between the D we're not doing any of that
stuff because what does that it wind up doing
that slows down all the forwards
and allow them to attack, right?
You get one pass across, move it up the ice,
allow the fours to go attack, right?
And last night, there was, I think,
the one play that I watched,
there was three passes between the D
rates rounding the goaltender, right?
And it's like, all you're asking for
is for somebody to step in front of one of those passes
to deflects at home,
or you don't make a perfect pass,
one of the other defenseman,
bibles the puck,
you got all your forwards,
all hanging out,
waiting for the puck.
They're constantly circling,
circling,
and it's like...
Circling?
But it's...
As a forward,
just give me the puck.
Well, and that's what the fours want.
Just give me the puck.
If you're all these top end players,
what do they want?
They want the puck.
So quit pissing around
with the puck as a defenseman
and just get it up there.
I don't disagree with Sean.
Now, in fairness,
I feel like I was in the same mindset last year
until, what, game six against L.A.,
and then something clicked,
and off they were to the races.
Doesn't it feel almost mirror image?
I mean, as long as Hyman comes back,
as long as Drysail comes back,
they'll be back.
You think both of them will be healthy, though?
Heimon will be.
They already said he can play right now
if it was playoffs.
They're in a playoff spot.
So does Drysale come back game one,
or does he come back, like, game three?
Oh, he's back game one.
Don't you remember the year
that he had a busted ankle?
Yeah, exactly.
25 points in 14 games or something dumb.
He was the best player in the playoffs, even though he had a bad ankle.
As bad as they've been, and as hard as we are.
The Emmington owners currently are tied.
Well, they sit in first place because they have the tiebreaker against Vegas.
Anaheim's lost, I think it's, yeah, six in a row.
Like they have just tanked.
But, okay, Eminton, Vegas at 88 points, Anaheim at 87.
The teams out of their division that could count.
catch them, the Los Angeles, Kings, San Jose Sharks, all which have games in hand on them.
But L.A. 5 points back of the Oilers, four of Anaheim, and San Jose is seven points back.
They're not getting caught by either of those teams.
Either of those teams? So that's going to be...
The only thing I hope for the Oilers is they play Anaheim in the first round.
That would be a perfect first round matchup for them.
So you go, they fall, Vegas gets first, they get second, Anaheim gets third.
Yeah. That would be a perfect.
scenario. Have you seen the goal differential for Anaheim? They're awful. They're not a good team.
They're young team. They're young. It's the perfect first round matchup. They've scored 257 goals for
and had 276 against their minus 19. The only, here, let me just. Actually, it's funny about
this year, there's a bunch of teams that have negative goal differential and that are going to make
the playoffs. No, right now as it sits in the east, nobody that's currently in. There's a bunch of teams
that have like plus one and plus four
differential battling.
So like not good teams.
If you actually look at like
pull up like the Los Angeles Kings
if you add they've got like 19 overtime losses.
If you add those on to their win loss record
like they're not a good team.
They're minus 25.
I know.
Minus 25.
That's interesting how good LA has been
and they've ran into the Oilers every year.
They're not so good anymore.
Yeah.
But we're even a even
as we're sitting here, right?
Like, you take Vegas and the Oilers being tied at 88 points.
They're not even making the playoffs if they're on the East, right?
Like, that's so big of a difference there is.
What's funny about that division, though, is like a couple years ago was the best division in hockey.
Vegas, the Oilers in L.A., and right now L.A. is no good anymore.
Anaheim's young and is not good yet.
And the Oilers in Vegas.
Oilers just kind of doing their thing where they get through the regular season.
It feels like a senior hockey team, right?
They're going to roll in the playoffs, and if they can get the thing rolling,
watch out.
They played so much hockey in the last two years.
Like, Florida didn't even make the playoffs this year.
Yeah.
Probably because they were tired out and injured and banged up and all the rest of the things.
Somehow the Oilers are going to make it again.
They've had a pile of guys getting surgeries done this year.
Florida, 37, 37, and 4.
Minus 33 goal differential.
But they've had, like, guys out for injuries all season long, right?
But it takes a toll on the body when you're out playing that many games.
that many extra games.
Yes.
Season after season.
I look at the Oilers as just kind of like,
just going along this year,
they're going to make the playoffs.
Do I think they turn up in the playoffs?
Yeah.
Can their goal-tending hold?
Can they make another run?
Yeah.
I, well, they're goal-tending.
What?
Wait.
I keep saying this.
Is our goal-tending better or worse
than the last two years
that we made the Sound like a finals?
Is Ingram better than Stuart Skinner?
I don't know about that.
I don't know about that.
I don't.
Did you watch Stuart Skinner in the playoffs last year?
No, I did.
He was brutal.
I was begging for him to bring in Pickard, who's an A.H.L. goalie.
Is Connor Engram an A.H.L. goalie?
Well, I'm just saying.
So at the end of the day, are we almost like the same?
The same, baby?
And then, okay.
Okay, and then you go, is there defense better or worse than last two years?
About the same.
About the same.
Yeah.
And then you go on their forwards.
Are they better or the same?
As long as everybody's in?
The one thing that has helped, I think, is bringing Paul Coffey back as a de-coach.
I didn't look like it last night.
Well, no, I get it, but he's only been there for a little bit here again.
I think Paul Coffey helps Bouchard.
I think that's the biggest difference.
Was that him tow dragging on the blue line last night?
No, probably.
That's what Bouchard does.
Holy mackenaw.
Just, ugh.
I mean, the guys got, they were talking about it last night.
88 points of a defenseman, a highest point total for a defenseman, I think, in Eminton's history for 40 years.
you got to go back to 86.
I was just talking about it with somebody.
Since Paul Coffey.
Yeah.
So, like, fair.
He's an offensive defenseman.
Fair enough.
But, like, the group of six of them,
if they can get going what they had in playoffs last year,
because they did it against all the best teams,
and you're like, holy crap, I didn't think we were going to beat Dallas.
And then you're watching me, like, what is going on?
You're asking if they can go on and run.
Like, can they beat Vegas?
Can they beat Anaheim?
Can they beat Colorado?
No, no, no.
Okay.
So you can get out of your division.
Can they?
Yes.
And then you've got Colorado.
Minnesota, Dallas, which one of those three
you have to beat. That's a lot tougher
task. Can they do it? Sure. I mean,
they did it last year and we didn't think they gave by Dallas
and then they handed it to them. I mean,
really. Yes. So it is possible.
I just look at the teams and I go, is our forwards
that much worse than the last two years? We're about the same.
We've got all those big stars as long as they're healthy.
Actually, no, the only thing about Colorado is
they got cadre back, so
the year they won.
And Landiscaug. Don't forget
about him. That's right.
they've got a good freaking team.
They're sitting on top at 112 points.
The only thing with any of that is how many President's Cup trophy winners actually win?
There's that to be said as well.
So, you know, it's the same thing we were talking about with the bandits, right?
Where is what's the prize?
And I know they think that they're, you know, the Stanley Cup playoffs.
But Colorado's not.
Colorado's been sniffing, well, they won it,
and then they've been sniffing around for the last couple of years.
So it's not like them winning the President's Cup is something big thing.
To their main guys, they've been there, done it.
All I'm saying is you go through the regular season
and you've had an easy time and you're the President's Cup trophy winner
and then all of a sudden people ramp up going into playoffs
and you're not used to that kind of competitiveness.
And so you can sometimes the Eminton Detroit,
that you're the Detroit one.
And Eminton came in out of nowhere and beat them, right?
Sure.
Things like that do happen because you're not expecting it to happen
and guys ramp up going into the playoffs.
That year, Eminton was a sneaky good team
who picked up a wick, a good goaltender at the deadline.
And had the best defenseman in the H.L.
That's correct.
Right now, Colorado will face Nashville Predators
is who they'd face today.
Is Nashville knocking them off?
No.
Is L.A. King's knocking them off?
No.
Is San Jose?
No.
But no.
But then you're going, okay, so then...
The second round.
Second round, Dallas, Minnesota.
Sure.
Absolutely.
Whoever comes out of that is going to be a really good freaking team.
And then you've got an absolute battle between those two.
Right.
Yeah.
Yes.
If you're putting your money on one team, though, from the West right now, isn't it the Colorado
Avalanche?
They've been the best team in the NHL all season long.
It'd be hard to bet a game.
How about the East, okay?
The Buffalo Sabres.
Slow clap.
Brian's a wallow if you're out there.
You finally get off 14 years, 2011 was the last time they were in.
April 26, 2011, and then a 14-year drope.
I'm cheering for the Sabres.
Honestly, that's a long time.
And as oily fans, we know all about that.
So my dark horse comes out of the east if they make the playoffs.
Okay.
If they make the playoffs.
If they make the playoffs.
Which is?
So do you guys got a dark horse that you like?
My dark coaster is the Buffalo Sabres because they might still win their
freaking division.
I realize you've been out that long.
I'm like, have Adder Sabers fans.
The team that I think that I like is a dark horse.
The Washington Capitals or the New York Islanders?
No, neither.
The team is in a wild card spot right now.
Ottawa Senators?
The Ottawa Senators.
That's my Dark Horse team this year.
The Ottawa Senators remind me of the Ottawa Senators.
of the 90s when they had kind of Wade play in there
and just the overall style of the team early 2000s was it it was early
2000s yeah maybe yeah yeah you're probably when they were when they were but it just
the way that they play yeah the heater the heater they just remind me of them like
it's I watch him and I don't want a senator's hockey
they're sitting in the second wild card right now 92 points same amount of games left as
Columbus who's two points back Detroit three points back and the New York Islanders three
points back I actually I want to see them make it and play hurricanes in the first round I
think they'd have a shot at coming out of that division how about how about Pete
DeBoer Islanders yeah can Patrick Waugh with a coach with two years
years left. And with four games remaining in the season, right? Like, they're, you know, is it a push to go all
in this year? Is it there's a coach that you've wanted for a while? And so he comes available and you
just jump on it. But like, I couldn't believe it. Four games left go into playoffs and you're
three points out. And you're changing coach, right? I assume they want it. I don't, I don't know.
Well, you got Tortorilla now in Vegas. In Vegas.
Yeah.
Torts will do good things.
I think everybody always talks about, right?
He's a guy that's a good head coach, but not for a long time.
Yeah, he comes in and he, same with Mike.
He stirs the pot.
He gets everybody riled up, but it's hard to keep them all riled up for years on end, right?
And Detroit, like Detroit was 12 points up in their division around Christmas time,
and now they're fighting, they're outside of a wild card spot right now.
They're three points back.
Yeah.
Like, I don't know.
I was just looking for, where are they had?
Who do you guys like coming out of the east?
Vegas is one four straight.
They're getting on at the right time.
Coming out of the east?
Everybody's talking about Tampa and Carolina, right?
My favorite player, still playing, Pittsburgh Penguins,
they're having a season where you're like
they got a lot of know-how in that locker room.
Can they get by if they play Philly first round?
Yes.
Right?
They should beat Philly.
They should beat Philly.
And then you've got to play the winner of Carolina and whoever.
Ottawa Senators.
Wouldn't that be something?
I'm cheering.
Honestly, I'm cheering for the Sabres.
And I hope Montreal does well,
but they're going to play each other right now first round.
I just, you know, when it's been that big of a drought,
it'd be cool to see Buffalo go on a run.
See, what's funny is, I think the team out of the east is the lightning.
But what's funny about that is I thought their window had passed a couple years ago.
I thought that they're, you know, and slowly fade.
And somehow this season, everything's clicked and away they go.
Yeah.
They got a great coach.
I love Cooper.
I think he's a phenomenal coach.
Probably my favorite coach in the NHL.
Oh, it gives you the Detroit vibes, right?
where they just somehow keep managing to stick around,
keep getting in the playoffs year after year,
and it's almost like, do you guys ever not make playoffs, right?
But I don't disagree with you.
Cooper's a good coach.
The East is a different year this year.
You look at the bottom teams, New York Rangers, bottom in the east.
They've been there for how many years.
Shasturking in that whole group, Florida Panthers,
three times the Stanley Cup finals,
two-time Stanley Cup champs,
to back there are Toronto Maple Leafs.
Right?
Like, I mean, how many years
has the Maple Leafs been on the cusp,
not been able to just find a way?
What are they going to do?
I have no idea.
I was laughing.
Mason had, I think,
Kipro was talking on the TV
the one day.
And, well, maybe Marner wasn't the problem.
And I'm like, oh, not, right?
Like, you know, like, it just,
I don't, I don't,
what do you do in Toronto?
I don't know.
And like, is their window done?
Is Matt, like, what are they going to do?
They built the team around Matthews and Nylander and.
Tavares.
And then.
And Tavares is close to the end, though.
Like, he's not that far away.
And then never mind the fact that you got the media shitting on Matthews for winning in the Olympics, right?
And how well do you feel about playing in that town now when the media is a lot?
The senator's giving it to Brady Kachuk.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But if you're going to have someone who's going to quit on their team and leave, it'd be a kachuk.
Really?
Because the father did it and his brother did it.
I know.
You just look, even the New Jersey Devils, all of these, those four, New York Rangers, Florida, Toronto, New Jersey.
All four of those teams eliminated this year already.
Three of those four have been in the playoffs for like however long, a long time now.
New Jersey's been that young up-uncoming team that's made the playoffs, been bouncing in
and out, they're out.
Washington Capitals have been in it for a ton, but they're looking to be out.
You know, so you've got a whole bunch in the east minus Carolina and Tampa who are all
relatively new to the back in.
I mean, if Boston makes it, yeah, they've been there.
Pittsburgh's been in and O, but Pittsburgh's missed what, the last two seasons I want to say?
It's been a couple years.
Like Philly being in back in there?
It honestly surprises.
Boston didn't make it last.
year, right? Didn't Boston miss last year?
Oh, Boston can't miss last year. It's funny. I just look at them and I don't go there
first time in the long time. But it's just a whole bunch of new teams. So you look and you go,
well, who's the team? And you go, well, you look at the top of the list and you go, well,
obviously Tampa's there. But would you be shocked if all of a sudden coming out of that
division was Buffalo and Montreal? Yeah, but then Harley's thing about the bandits makes
sense. For someone like Buffalo, just to make the playoffs is a big deal. Right.
Yes, because it's been so long. So long. Yep. That's right.
And Carolina is a team that's made it to the Eastern Conference Finals,
how many times and can't find a way back to the finals.
It could be their year, right?
They seem like the perennial Eastern Conference Finals team,
but I can never get to the dance.
So I don't know.
My money that I don't really cheer for any team out of the East.
I like Pittsburgh because of Crosby.
I'd love to see them have one more crack at it.
But I love Buffalo.
I'm happy for them.
Buffalo would be a cool story.
I kind of have the idea, though, can they make out of the first round?
I don't know.
They have to play the Canadians.
I think they can because I think Canadians are a paper tiger.
Interesting.
I think they're all flash and dash, which works well in the regular season.
But in the playoffs, you remember who they played last year?
First round?
They played the Washington Capitals.
And Washington Capitals just grinded them into the ice, and they couldn't do anything.
Buffalo's got some big boys.
and Montreal's a smaller skilled team
which sometimes works in the regular season
but you get into the playoffs
and everybody just ramps it up a little bit more
and grinds it out and they have troubles
and it might work for a round
but to make it to the end
just got to have a little bit of grit in the locker room gentlemen
you were mentioning the Olympics
what did you think of everybody had their say on it
well I think the Canadians played well enough
and that's hockey
to me it looked like they deserve to win but it's one of those cases where you stick in the fight long enough
and anything can happen right and you got to bury on some of the chances right and you can't let it
you can't let it get to that point because all you're looking for then is a bad break and a puck goes in
and, you know, if you're allowing it to get to overtime, it's...
Especially in the Olympics, because then you, the format, we know this from Nagano.
Yeah.
Well, and here's the thing, too, is you're playing one game.
They'll play them.
Which surprised me, because if we go back to when they played the U.S. in the Four Nations Cup,
the U.S. looked like absolute world beaters.
And all it takes is one game by a goalie.
Hella Bucks pretty damn good.
Like, that's all it takes sometimes.
And you're talking about one game.
So, you know, they played well.
Yeah.
What more do you want?
You can't, that's the way it goes.
I think we've all been on teams where you're the better team and you still lose.
Yeah.
Don't allow yourself to be in that position at the end of the game.
If things happened this year with Alberta,
Team Alberta.
And you go, I wonder what would that look like.
Croc, what would that look like?
You know, whether or not they would choose to play for Alberta, I have no idea.
Can't put any words in anyone's mouth.
Our number one player would be Cal McCar.
It's a good start.
Mm-hmm.
I find this funny.
The number two player that Grok came up with is William Neelander, though.
And you're like, William Nant?
That can't be right.
So I did a bunch of searching on it.
He was born in Calgary.
So you could extend an offer to him.
Say, you want to come play for Team Alberta?
Chances are that's going to fall flat.
Obviously, he plays for Sweden.
Then, after that, probably the big names,
Braden Point, Taylor Hall,
Jake Debrusk, Dylan Holloway,
Bobby Man
you know
Sam Steele
You guys have been watching
Holloway at all
Logan Thompson
Logan Thompson
Have you
Have you followed
What Holloway's been doing
The last little bit here
No
It's been absolutely tearing it up
Yeah
And we go
You know
Remember when we chose
Not to sign him
And he left
Yeah but I mean
You go back to listening
To the fan base
We should have had
Broberg and Holloway
Yes
Yeah
When they traded
Broberg went to the Olympics this year.
When they traded...
It was C-C., right?
Traded C-C2, San Jose.
Am I right on that?
Yep.
Right?
Everyone went, oh, they're opening up Capspace.
We're going to keep both these guys.
And then they didn't.
And you're like, what are we doing?
Could have Holloway on your lineup?
Could have Broberg on your back end.
Doesn't that fix a lot of problems?
Sure does.
Sure does.
Yeah.
Like, Broberg looked good in the Olympics, too.
Yeah.
Yeah, like.
He'd be a easy top four on the Oilers.
And an upgrade to some of those guys back there for sure.
Here's the active NHL goalies for, you were mentioning Logan Thompson for Team Alberta,
Logan Thompson, Stuart Skinner, Eric Comering from Winnipeg and Carter Hart in Vegas.
There'd be your four.
Literally, that's as good as the Canada's goaltending.
Just saying.
and yet they still won't play Logan Thompson
and you know well they they did
no I know and I'm sure that it was all kind of pre-determined
after the four nations
Bennington played well in the Olympics
no I don't disagree but at the same time too
you've got at that time
Logan Thompson was the best goalie in the NHL
but isn't this problem with anything to do with teen Canada
and you can't see me folks putting them in parentheses
is especially at that level, there's a little bit of a, you have to earn it mentality.
So Bittington's been there. He's won for us, so he's going to be the guy.
Instead of, you know, like, Celebrini being there was like, all the fans were pumped for it,
and he was unreal in the tournament.
But he's a young guy, and you weren't sure if they were going to add him,
because there was a bunch of guys that got added.
Cindy Crosby.
Right? He's still there?
No, no. First Olympics. He never got taken.
He never got taken. I see what you're saying.
Yep, even though I think he was leading the league or second in
scoring.
So when it comes to the goaltending or in general,
so like, why wouldn't you just put the best team on ice?
Yeah.
And like the line of McDavid Celebrini and Tom Wilson was unreal.
That was the funnest line to watch, all Olympics.
It was just super cool.
Don't disagree with you.
But there's the old boys club.
Okay.
When it comes to the format of this,
we're doing biggest loser this year?
Sure, sure.
So for the audience, we normally take bets on games who's going to win, who's going to win series.
We'd love to have Jay's.
Jay's is going to be wearing the...
Well, he was the biggest loser last year, wasn't he?
By far was.
And the fact that he isn't here today tells me the first one we do, which I think will be roughly the...
If it starts on the 18th, 23rd, April 23rd will be the first Second Brothers roundtable this year, I guess.
and Jay will have to
dawn whatever we find.
I'm sure we can come up with something.
And I'm sure the audience can throw in some
thoughts as well on what maybe
has to be put on for that.
We could,
you've got to pick
out of teams that currently aren't in the playoffs
who would make playoffs
between now and then.
And the lowest point total
is your biggest loser.
Can't pick the same team.
Oh, so you want to go to the wild card standings.
Right now you would have Columbus, Detroit, Islanders.
Washington.
Washington on the other side.
L.A. San Jose.
You could maybe throw Winnipeg in there to real stretch.
Dustin's looking.
I really don't like my options.
I'm going to go.
I'll go first.
I'm going to take the San Jose Sharks.
Ah, damn it.
I was going to say San Jose Squeaks in passes Nashville.
All right.
That's what I'm going with.
I'm going to go with the Detroit Red Wings.
They've got to make it here one of these years.
And if they don't make it this year, how many years they've been knocking at the door?
Three points back four games to go.
They got to go on a tear.
I'll go with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Not because I like them.
but because they're the closest.
Oh,
it's the number of the L.A. Kings.
Oh, God.
Yeah. I'll go L.A.
I'll go Columbus Blue Jackets
because I have no faith in the Flyers either.
That leaves Harles.
Columbus, San Jose,
and you're going Detroit.
Never mind.
You're going Detroit.
I don't have Jay here.
Any final thoughts before I let you guys out?
Jay, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, I'm going to take the L.A. Kings just to make it harder on Jay to try and get...
No, no, no, Jay gets Calgary.
Jay gets Calgary. He gets Calgary. He gets Calgary Flames.
Jay is the biggest loser of the first one.
He gets Calgary Flames. You don't show up to the first roundtable. You're getting whoever we choose.
Sean, give them the Calgary Flames.
Jay, guys, we just got a text in and says Jay's taking the Calgary Flames. That's tough.
That's fantastic, Jay. Good choice.
Yeah, great choice.
Yeah, they got a shot there.
Gentlemen, thanks for hopping in and doing this.
Folks, I know there's been, you know, it's funny, Jay, I go back to the first conversation we ever did like this.
And Jay, if you go back to episode four, Jay's sitting there and he's like, how the hell is going to listen to us?
Yahoo's.
It's funny.
As we get closer at NHL playoffs, I get texted more and more.
When's the Brothers Roundtable coming back?
Come on, we've got a couple of fans at least scattered across the country.
Is that mom and dad texting you?
That is not mom and dad.
It's not mom and dad.
Hey, shout out to mom and dad.
They're celebrating 50 years of marriage this year, so that's pretty cool.
And who knows?
Maybe Dad just had shoulder surgery.
Maybe when he's healthy.
Maybe he can make a round table and impart his thoughts when Jay can't seem to show up.
This is Dad going to get his pink up?
It's possible.
It's possible.
Gentlemen, until the playoffs are running, until then,
until then
