Sheikh Uthman Hadi - Shaping Your Year Through Shawwal | Friday Khutbah
Episode Date: March 27, 2026Dear brothers and sisters, as we transition from the blessed month of Ramadan into the month of Shawwal, it is essential to reflect on how we can shape our year through the lessons and experiences gai...ned during Ramadan. Shawwal is not merely a month that follows Ramadan; it is an opportunity for us to continue the momentum of worship, self-improvement, and spiritual growth.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sheikh-uthman-hadi--6689369/support.https://sheikhuthmanhadi.beam.lyhttps://open.spotify.com/user/315hadqmwxllibu6ubi5us2cbn2y?si=572b4d8898284e9ehttps://open.spotify.com/show/3MQHfrpjj3XXcqoPbN5Dl8?si=v6YQ42kpSx-VONBFhT3CzA

Hamadilah, Herbalalamine
yesterday we spoke specifically
about fasting
and about Shawal and about
trying to gain extra rewards
during the month of Shawal
and to
continue on
to transition from
trying to gain your good deeds
to also shaping your year
through Ramadan or you know through showal through the rest of the year right is a very
interesting topic and honestly I want to speak a little bit more about it but when it comes to
the transitions from Ramadan to showal and from Shaoal to the rest of this year and I say
the rest of this year because I'm not going to say the rest of this year and next year
because technically we're about to end this year in shah Allah in two months do kada do
hijja and after that they'll be muharam and inshallah ta'allah will start again
But I do want to make it a point for us to realize that we want this habit that we have or these habits that we have and these habits that we built throughout the Matur Ramadan to last beyond.
We don't want it to be something where we only do things during the Matur Ramadan.
And it's very essential for us to reflect on how we can shape our year through just shallawal.
And it's not just about our fasting.
It's not just about our good deeds.
But it's actually about being continuous, right?
The Hadith of the Prophet of Allah-Hu-Sah, very well-known hadith, is,
that these are, you know, that Allah,
subramana loves those deeds that are done consistently,
even if they're small or even they're little, even they're few, right?
So even if you're only doing a little bit here and there,
doing those good deeds, period,
are the deeds that Allah suhpana-ho-ta-a-la loves.
So especially as we continue on through Sha'u-Wal,
today is the eighth day for us,
we continue on through our Sha'u-Wal,
I don't want you to put yourself in the framework of,
I'm trying to, you know, build such a strong,
let's just say such a strong frame for the rest of this year and for the next year.
But I want you to instead start to shape throughout the rest of this year.
Shape and reform how you are.
And ensure as well that every single day is a means of you trying to better yourself.
Because if you just shape yourself and show off and say after that, I'm molded, right?
I'm not changing anymore after that.
Then there are going to be things that break the mold.
And guess what happens when that mold is broken?
You can't fix it again, right?
So trying to also remember that they're going to be there are going to be various various times in which you're going to be broken.
You're going to be hurt.
You're going to fail.
You're going to fail.
You're going to falter.
You're going to make mistakes.
And sometimes even those sins and those mistakes that you make, sometimes can even break the mode itself.
So also remembering as well.
Trying your absolute hardest throughout these days and shawahle and throughout the rest of the year to continuously check upon yourself.
I'm giving an example of mold because it's more of our character.
not to just mold our character and say that's going to be it for the rest of the year.
So that's the reminder I want to give us here.
Now the reminder I want to give us as well is that the Prophet of Allahi who was suddenly
emphasized the importance of fasting when it comes to Sha'al, which he said, whoever fasted
during Ramadan and then follows it with six days of Sha'al is as if he is fasted for the
year, the entirety of that year.
So we mentioned this Hadith yesterday, and it highlights the immense importance and amidst significance
retaining, you know, maintaining our fasting practices even after Ramadan. This is something that I
want to mention here as well, right? And it's very beautiful how I want to mention this as well
in this regards. When it comes to the first thing is our continuous deeds. So the transition from
Ramadan this a while should not signify a decline in our acts of Ibada and decline in our acts of
goodness and a decline in our good deeds. But rather it should actually be a means of us continuing
to go.
I had to readjust this.
We should continue to try to better ourselves, and we should also do better good deeds,
especially throughout these days of Shawak.
And we're just entering the first 10.
We've already completed our first week.
Al-Haul-Lah, Raban Amin.
So we should try to also renew our intentions, right?
It's very important as Wadi, renew your intentions.
And in the Aya in the Quran in which Allah, Sufano, He mentions about your good deeds.
It's very beautiful.
He says, and do good deeds, perhaps you will be successful.
practice to will succeed. So when it comes to those good deeds that you perform during Ramadan,
don't just let it be during Ramadan. Let it be throughout every single moment of your life,
do it every single day and practice it. Like I said before, I gave the example of molds, right?
Don't just say this is going to be it and that's going to be it, right? I've mowed it myself into
one part and then after that, that's it. I'm not going to change anything. I'm not going to make any
alterations. I'm not going to do anything else. And then at this point, now it becomes a point in time
in which it's difficult for you to try and reshape yourself because it's like, okay, how do I approach this now?
I now don't want to completely crumble because I've molded myself so difficult and I cannot reshape this, shall I say.
I cannot reshape it. So this is exactly why my derbyas and sisters is very important as well that we try our absolute hardest to perform the good deeds during Ramadan, especially in Shalawal and throughout that time as well.
And I mentioned something about intentions and Nia. And what is the promise of Allah, He was Sala and say about Nia? He says that,
Actions are judged by intentions and every person will have that of what he has intended.
So when it comes to your intentions, ensure that your intentions are leading your actions,
not your actions leading your intentions.
And it's very important as well that you are increasing in acts of charity.
You're increasing in those same things that you did during the month of Ramadan with the right intention.
Not the intention of pleasing anyone.
Not the intention of hitting a number.
Oh, I want to give $3,000 of charity this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this,
month or I want to give $3,000 of charity in these two months. No, do it only for Allah and forget the
numbers. The same as, you know, sometimes our prayers and sometimes our soonness and sometimes our
dicker. Some people actually have these dicker devices and they only use them. I mean, I've seen
before myself, they only use them actually just for numbers. And sometimes it actually is very
daunting and it takes you down into a different level. Now it's like, okay, I'm not really performing
vicar to actually gain closest to a law. I'm just doing it so I can hit a number. Oh,
100 that hit 8,000 today. Wow, great. I did great, right? But what did you actually perform with that?
So also trying to ensure my brother and sisters that your Ibadna is set by your intentions, right?
And making sure that every single part of this year is set through that intention and trying your absolute hardest to ensure that you are upon those intentions.
And the other thing I want to mention as well as the personal growth. I want to keep this one a little shorter as well today.
We are kind of out of time here as well a little bit. But when it comes to your,
personal growth reflect upon it ask yourself the essential questions and take time to ask
those ask yourself ask yourself those questions how how can i how have i changed during ramadan what are
the lessons that i have learned what areas do i need improvement in and finally what is my goal for the
rest of this year and don't make it something that's super unrealistic some of us say i'm going to finish
the quran 15 times okay that's not going to happen okay that's not going to happen why are we why are we
we're putting ourselves in this in this type of predicament make a realistic goal i want to finish the
quran once in the whole year but i want to finish it with understanding i want to finish it with
meaning i want to finish it in a way that it actually helps me reflect upon my life it actually
helps me transform it actually helps me become a transformative person right so if you're trying
your absolute hardest to set these goals but they're nowhere near realistic then you're not
going to be able to be able to actually set them so when it comes here my brother's and
This is very important that you look at the areas of what you need to improve in as well.
Don't make it that Ramadan is just a time in which you say, oh, I mean, hey, it was a time for improvement.
And after that, if I didn't, if I'm not improved, if I haven't gotten all the way there, you mold yourself during Ramadan.
If you feel as though after Ramadan, you're like, oh, man, I still struggle with this problem and that problem.
We all struggle with, including myself, we all have problems that we struggle with.
If you feel that way, then it means that you might have, it could have molded yourself during Ramadan to a way.
You could have said, hey, this, during Ramadan, I'm trying to hit this goal and this goal and this goal.
And I'm not trying to carry it outside of Ramadan.
I want to be a completely different person afterwards.
But it's not about a month worth of changing.
It's about a journey's worth of changing, right?
Which is why we did our series of journey to the divine.
It's a journey to a law.
And it's also a journey to a more divine what?
A more divide change, more divine life.
And of course, nothing can compare to a loss of honor Huitana when we will use the words divine.
But of course, when you think about it, you want a better life and you want a closer relationship with Allah Safanahua.
So, my brothers and sisters, during this month of Shawa, it's a very pure month for us as we can shape our entire year just through this one month.
So don't look at it as if Ramadan is going to just shape it.
Don't look at it as this Shal is just going to shape it.
But instead, use every single month.
And this is the final reminder I give.
and use every single month.
I know that you're going to be thinking,
okay, you just said use Sha'al.
I'm saying use Sha'al as the continuation ground.
Ramadan was what?
What was Ramadan?
We start off.
We say what?
We say, Rajab was the very beginning.
Shaban was the, okay, here we're going.
We're going into it.
Ramadan was the actual month.
It was the training.
And then afterwards, we continue on our training, right?
And it continues on.
And then we ask Allah, Sufana,
to bless us with that. And also, my dear brothers and sisters, ensure that you're using
the things that you did during the month of Ramadan and you're establishing them in your daily
life, day to day, every single day, every single moment you have. We ask Allah, suhpano,
who at all right us to grant us a strength to continue our ibada and our good deeds beyond the month
of Ramadan. We ask Allah, suhpana, our prayers, from us, our duas, from us, our prayers,
from us, accept our charity from us, except all of our acts that are pleasing to him and
allow for our attentions to only be for his sake. And we ask for our prayers to only be for his sake. And we
ask Allah supranahu at all to ensure that our journey we ask Allah to find out to make us
among those who are stepfast in our journey back to him and stepfast in our faith and we ask
Allah saffa to allow for us to return to him in a time that's most pleasing to him and we ask
Allah to grant us goodness not only in this life but mainly in the next I mean wakur d'awain and
