Starting point is 00:00:00 She's on the money. She's on the money. Hello and welcome to Friday Drinks, the podcast where we come together over a vino slash vodka cruiser or two to celebrate the She's on the Money community's achievements and reflect on that week that was. Ryan John is here. We've got Jessica D'Ariucci. And we've also got our favourite friend, Georgia King.
Starting point is 00:00:36 Hello. You're welcome. And I'd like to know, Ryan, what happened in our money diaries this week on Monday? So this one's about not conforming. I actually really liked these. Am I right in saying that 97% of the group, their big money goal is buying a house?
Starting point is 00:00:52 I mean, that's probably. Is that a fair assumption? So we obviously want to get these money diaries to be a little bit different. And even though she's like, I don't want to have a forever job I don't want a forever home I don't necessarily want a forever partner it doesn't mean that she's like just throwing money away she's still really keen to invest but just has very different goals and values so pretty interesting to check out I really liked
Starting point is 00:01:11 it and I felt like it was a little bit more relatable to some people in our community who'd been listening to money diaries for a while and maybe not resonating I know this because my personal dms blew up with like oh my gosh that was so cool like you know what else does she do so I've had of fun conversations this week we also did a deep dive on the very highly requested topic ethical investing with georgia king g what'd we cover so yeah as you said we had a big old chat about ethical investing and greenwashing and greenwashing and that was kind of the main takeaway from that episode um it was that ethical investing is not really created equal across the board and that we really need to be careful about greenwashing
Starting point is 00:01:54 and we need to check the marketing because a lot of people, Ryan John's got his hand up. What is greenwashing? So greenwashing is basically companies, brands, we see it in the supermarket all the time. So brands basically pretending to be more ethical than they are by clever marketing.
Starting point is 00:02:11 And we buy into that because we think we're doing the right thing when really we are not. So sometimes we think we're doing the right thing, maybe even paying a little bit extra to do the right thing and we're not. It's huge in the fashion industry, actually. It would be super interesting to potentially do another deep dive kind of on marketing
Starting point is 00:02:27 as a whole with greenwashing. I know that's a little bit different from what you guys spoke about this week. I like that. Yeah, but it all, yeah, it was really so sneaky. So sneaky. Marketing is sneaky. I think I said multiple times on the episode, like, why is the world evil? So that was kind of another takeaway.
Starting point is 00:02:43 I feel like so many people, when you see an investment company say, oh, it's our green portfolio or it's our emerald portfolio or it's our socially responsible portfolio you just automatically think oh that's their ethical version right no friends it is not like the organic sticker on the food in the supermarket there's no regulation at this there's no regulation yeah they can just do whatever they want yeah here's a fact i've been whipping out for 10 years the word fresh doesn't mean anything so if a supermarket says it's fresh like legally it's like yeah like it doesn't actually that's like free range as well on food i learned that from doco so like something can be free range but still really like when i think free range i'm
Starting point is 00:03:21 envisioning like in the paddocks yeah yeah running through the you know the trees with the wind in there but i believe they have feathers but okay well it could be a cow or free range cows like you get your cow legs the class third meter here you go thank you g um but no like apparently like they can be really limited in their square footage and still technically classified as free range which i thought was quite interesting we're all being played left right and center is it weird to give the company josh's rainbow eggs a shout out here because rainbow eggs yes because i've done a fair bit of research into eggs in my time being the crazy person that i am and josh's rainbow eggs are very impressive but also they're like truly free-range ethical eggs and i just know this but
Starting point is 00:04:10 all of the hens have like fresh pasture because they move their little sheds around so they always have fresh green grass and, like, they all have, I can't remember what the space is, but, like, far more space than any other chickens. So his chickens are very happy. So cute. And he's also young and has his own egg company. What a legend.
Starting point is 00:04:27 Anyway, that's my shout-out for the week. Oh, I've got another one later, so maybe we should actually move on from my segment of random shout-outs about eggs. Ryan, have you got... Oh, he was ready. He was ready. All right.
Starting point is 00:04:42 Money wins of the week, my favourite ones. Now, I don't know if it's you that first said this stat, Victoria, or maybe it was just a meme that was going around. It's probably stats gal Georgia King. Have you guys seen this meme that's been going around that says men who are confident in their ability at 60% will still apply for a job? Yep, yep, yep. Was that you guys?
Starting point is 00:05:01 It wasn't. It's not like coined by me. It's something that's actual. That's like common knowledge. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But women won't go for a job unless they meet 99% of the criteria. And guys will go for 60%. It's the whole imposter syndrome thing.
Starting point is 00:05:14 Just a confidence game, yeah. Sarah Pardee said she read the quote and was like, all right, if I think I'm 60%, I'm going in. We can now confirm she ticked off 60% and applied, got the job, she's ready to learn the other 40%, and wait for it, an extra $20,000. What? In that job.
Starting point is 00:05:33 I love that. Can we all take inspiration from that as well? Absolutely. And go, you know what, 60%, I'm applying. You miss 100% of the shots you don't shoot. Oh, she's inspirational. Get your head in the game. Yay!
Starting point is 00:05:48 Okay. Matilda says, Win, I found the exact Freedom Bedroom set I was eyeing off on their website. It was $500 cheaper on Facebook Marketplace. Basically brand new. Money, win. We love Marketplace. Yeah, and did we decide on next week?
Starting point is 00:06:03 Yeah, we've decided it's not sponsored. We don't even need it to be sponsored. Facebook, please sponsor us. Facebook, please sponsor us. Mark, get in touch. You've got heaps of money. Give it to us. No, we've decided Friday drinks, the Facebook Marketplace edition.
Starting point is 00:06:16 We're not sure where we're going with it, so slide into our DMs with your inspiration, but it's going to happen. I'm so excited. It's my time to shine. Is Sheridan the linen? Is that expensive? Yes, bougie. Yeah, so Vicky, now this one is pretty rare.
Starting point is 00:06:30 It's my name actually, Vicky, because I also got a Sheridan order this week. Well, Vicky said, money win. I purchased some pillowcases with our girls' names on them and her girls, in brackets, our fur babies. So basically she bought some really nice linen for her puppies and got the puppies' names embroidered into the sheets. I wonder how big her dog is, because I've got a spare dog rain jacket to give away.
Starting point is 00:06:52 Someone in our DMs actually asked for that. Okay, they can have it. So Vicky said one of the dog's names is Cassie with a Y, but they forgot to embroider the Y, so she emailed them and they got a full refund and got to keep the linen instead. Yes, girl. Well done.
Starting point is 00:07:08 Still spelt wrong. all right whoa do you think the dogs will be dogs can't read equality for dogs excuse me my name's not spelt right take it back jazz says i learned how to peel off my lash extensions without damaging them so now i've saved myself 25 is she's like she puts them back on Oh, that sounds terrifying. That makes me nervous. Is that terrifying? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:07:39 Well, because potentially you're taking your real ones with it, I think is why you would normally go for extensions. Hang on, do I need to read this again? I learned how to peel off my lash extensions without damaging my natural lashes, so I saved $25. No, so I can understand what she's trying to say there, and that's she's not paying to get them removed. Yeah, so you can pay to get them removed,
Starting point is 00:07:59 because they get really janky towards the end. you'll be you'll have like three individual lashes on one eye unless you get them refilled but like i don't know how anyone doesn't look like a bald bandicoot ask jess jess what did i look like when i got my lash extensions off for the first time a bold bandicoot it was actually quite funny i had next to no lashes but that's actually my money win later so ryan carry on so christina sorry i just thought i thought when she took them off she was implying that because she didn't wreck them she put them back on again that's what i thought that meant so i'm glad if anybody has ever taken their lash extensions off saved them and put them
Starting point is 00:08:38 back on we want to hear from you christina says my hubby found ten dollars lying in the bushes on the way to work on the side of the road money we stopped the car ran and grabbed it and then gave it to me his beloved one he said he is ten dollars love i love you would you guys stop your car and get out of it to pick up $10 off the side of the road? Oh, we're about to find out how rich everyone is in the road. Jess, would you? I'm too blind. I wouldn't see it.
Starting point is 00:09:01 I'd drive past it. That is true. Georgia King? I would if it was, like, slow and no one was around. But I think I'd be too embarrassed. Like, if you were in Melbourne City traffic, like, stop, there's $10 on the road in peak hour. Are you getting out of your car?
Starting point is 00:09:14 You're stopped anyway. How much would stop you? 50 bucks? Like, if you saw 50 bucks, you would stop in the middle of the road? I would, definitely. Victoria? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:09:24 She's rich. Yeah, you've done all right. Sylvia says, money win. I ordered through iPantry and I ordered one litre of oat milk, but they accidentally delivered one six-pack. Yes, money oat win. So she got six one-litre bottles for $4. That's pretty cheap anyway, right?
Starting point is 00:09:41 That is super cheap. That's actually, if we compare this to the person who made homemade oat milk in our community a couple of weeks ago, it's a better deal than the homemade oat milk. She's winning. She's winning. All right, so they're my favorite money wins from the group this week. Did anyone else see anything in there that took their fancy?
Starting point is 00:09:58 Oh, I did actually. I wanted to ask you guys a question. There was a really interesting post about how many bank accounts do you have? And I hadn't really thought about it. But as you guys know, I'm a bit of an upstand. And I realized I have 15. What? 15 bank accounts, Jessica.
Starting point is 00:10:15 15 savers. So not like separate accounts with different banks. Oh, that's okay. yeah you can have the savers and you can if you don't know you can allocate money to different goals like i have my house deposit and i break down like my bills and my rent so i kind of do my budget within my bank account if that makes sense um but i have 15 and i was like is that a lot that feels like a lot it feels like a lot but it's not actual account so i feel like that's just a good way of saving a little bit different um how many accounts does everyone else have am i
Starting point is 00:10:42 like really overshooting it yeah you have five times what i have oh no i have three but i don't really get money how many accounts do you have right we do pay her one two three i probably six or seven including some shared ones with bridge yeah nice yeah but that's probably less than how many of you got victoria if we include business accounts oh my gosh business accounts are a lot but business doesn't count in my banking because that's that's fair yeah yeah i have six six i still I feel like that's all like I was thinking about that and I don't know when I was young it was like you have your one account and like that was it and I think now with like interest rates and like things like savers and all those things people are using them in a different way now
Starting point is 00:11:22 which I thought was kind of interesting there were people on the thread who had like just as many as me some people had more I was gonna say was there a record did we get you don't have that bank account I think that's so different because if you've got multiple bank accounts with multiple banks and like you're here there and everywhere that's different to Jess having 15 savers on up so that she can track her goals right yeah well there's no like that's different fees on the savers i think it's probably like the big thing yeah that's a money win but i also just think i've got six because that's how i run my budget and cash flow and you know if you've done my course you'll be like i know the six that she has because i've showed you guys jess you've done the
Starting point is 00:11:56 budget and cash flow masterclass how have you still got 15 yeah what are the other nine what happened will we like a breakdown that's probably oh my gosh yeah no no what are you saving for People are going to want to hear this. So the top one, the Chunky Boy is the house deposit. Oh, did you hear that? Lil Flex, she called her house deposit savings. Chunky Boy. I feel like I kind of have these actually ordered in like priorities.
Starting point is 00:12:19 Yeah. So then it's rent, groceries, takeout, because I consider that different to grocery and I allocate. Yep. Oh, that's good. Petrol, might cover a bit of flack for this one, but then I have beauty and clothes. Are they separate?
Starting point is 00:12:33 Separate. yeah our values we don't care respect if that's what you're spending your money on you've got to allocate it yeah i like i budgeted in like i put the same amount in every month then i've got miscellaneous for just like random stuff that pops up my emergency fund actually you know what this isn't in order now that i'm looking but it was nice to think it might be um emergency fund bills parking gifts insurance and rego yeah because parking is it is expensive every day no she drives on pod days today and then the last couple you really don't care about but I mean I feel like that kind of makes sense to me because I like I have it in my budget like I have the course I use
Starting point is 00:13:11 the actual budget template and it's very helpful might I say but like day to day I'm not looking at that I'm not necessarily accessing it on my computer so like having those accounts it makes it easy for me to be able to look at it and go okay like I have 30 bucks left for the month in my you know takeout account like am i gonna drop 20 bucks on pizza tonight maybe like but then i have 10 to stretch it just makes it easier for me but then i was like am i crazy maybe so here's a sentence or question i never thought i'd ask how big is the chunky boy that is for her to know and for you not to find out yeah i agree okay just give me a nod though sorry okay we're gonna have our own personal money wins and confessions in just a moment
Starting point is 00:13:52 all right and we are back and obviously you guys have been yearning to hear about what we are drinking this week jessica um arguably the most aesthetic can i've ever picked up not gonna lie it is very pretty it's pink it has a cute little caricature on it um we'll put a photo on our instagram story it's called pals pals it's really fun it feels very millennial um but it's vodka watermelon mint and soda and this isn't sponsored this is actually something that jess and i went and picked up earlier at our very close bottle low and jess what happened at the uh bottle low uh if you're a long time listener you'll remember our pal will from dan murphy's richmond correct dreamboat i hear i don't want to tell this story because it's mean it is not mean what's saying
Starting point is 00:14:48 He's cuter than we thought he was. What's changed, though? Has his hair grown out? That's what I was like. What's different about it? I don't remember. I didn't remember his face when he was serving us. But you sure remembered him tonight.
Starting point is 00:15:03 But he served us and he was like, hey, I remember you guys. And we left and we both looked at each other and Victoria goes, was he that good looking last time? I was like, I don't think he was. Now he's on this side of the show, isn't he, Will? Will from Dan Murphy's New Richmond. You have two fangirls. Kind of creepy.
Starting point is 00:15:22 Can you get rid of the music? No, solid bloke. If he needs a date, I'm sure we could organise it for him. This is probably overstepping a massive line. All right, well, let's leave him alone for a bit. Victoria, what is your money, win or confession for the week? All right, that segued really nicely. I thought, Ryan, you'd mention the guy in the wine bar, Jess, to be honest.
Starting point is 00:15:42 But we'll get to that story another time. So would he, big fan of Jess. She was. I mean, you can't not be a big fan of Jez, can you? What's not to love? Exactly. They obviously saw the picture on the She's On The Money group thing. Exactly, the big shout out.
Starting point is 00:15:54 Instagram this week, yeah. They all saw it. Feeling the love. Yeah, exactly. All right, so, Ryan, you're not going to resonate with this at all, so maybe just, like, do something else for the next 30 seconds. Yeah, I related a bit harder with the reusable lashes. So it is lash.
Starting point is 00:16:08 Also lash related. Yeah, it is also lash related. um recently i had my eyelash extensions removed because i genuinely just didn't have time to get them done as often as i was looked like a bald bandicoot ask jess and probably everybody else who saw me my partner actually mentioned the other day i was saying haha remember that time i literally looked like a bald bandicoot and he was like oh yeah i wasn't ever gonna make funny for you then though what he was still in the trying to impress you stage yeah like i mean we've been together long enough that he wasn't trying to this was like in february oh yeah like
Starting point is 00:16:42 he's like i won't make fun of you while you're going through it but later on we're gonna remember this anyway i've been trying out different mascaras it has been a very significant period of time that i haven't used them so i've come into some duds us jessica like a panda a number of days at work because we've tried smudgy ones ones that flake it's been awful anyway this is not sponsored i have seen a lot of influencer posts about this brand recently though this isn't one of them i was just influenced by instagram and that is the mco or mco beauty extend lash and you just get it woolly so i got it 50 off making it ten dollars ten dollar mascara that is chef's kiss is that really because you can pay like infinite money yeah yeah yeah so some of
Starting point is 00:17:28 them and i bought a more popular branded one recently it was like 70 dollars oh and i didn't like it i didn't like it and then i tried one that just recommended but turns out i bought the wrong one i bought like a different like what was it it's not the same brand magnetic version yeah like a magnet whatever anyway that one didn't work for me but the emco beauty extend lash ten dollar ruse it was the other week at woolworths and now i've tried it out can recommend even if you pay full price at 20 bucks that is the money win my friends 100 georgia king what do you got okay wow i don't know why i breathed in so heavily there so everyone just needed to experience that they did asmr that's very in at the moment you welcome everyone um everyone around this table
Starting point is 00:18:12 knows that i've moved house recently uh which you know that is a taxing experience but money win we've done it all ourselves with the help of our parents so couldn't be happier here's the confession though guys oh no first night in the house last night cute do you love it key in the door oh my gosh it snapped in how are you gonna get it out so well it was stuck in that harps got it out somehow but we had to go around around the back harps had to jump fortunately the door was unlocked it is now always locked though please don't rob me so we like snuck in that way and then i had to get it cut again and it was an eight dollar money loss um but like inconvenience right now like i don't know how it helps you meet it out
Starting point is 00:19:00 somehow but i'm impressed not ideal that's a serious snap yeah was that literally the first time you it was the second so we'd like we'd been moving we've been moving over the series of a couple of days it's a series of um and last night like it was the big move we did all the big stuff the bed the fridge the washing machine and we'd been at kmart you know buying storage stuff long day ready to go i've got my hands full so i'm like really tweaking it yeah and then it just snaps oh that's not life loss honestly and at that point i guarantee you probably a little bit hangry probably a little bit frustrated hungry that was probably the last thing you needed it was but hey we're here we got into the house in the end um and everything's okay i'm sorry to
Starting point is 00:19:44 hear that but congrats on the move thank you i'll have you all over it's warming we'll take her up on that jessica really jess yeah beside being really popular in many um establishments what's your win um i have a really good win i recently borrowed a pair of shoes from victoria uh did you drill do you know what those are brian absolutely this throws me under the bus at the same time i don't know what they are so espadrilles are like the little boat shoes with the um yeah They're on her feet right now, actually, the ones that I borrowed. Oh, cute, cute, cute. I love those little Gucci slippers.
Starting point is 00:20:15 They're Chanel. Whatever. Whatever's too fancy for me. They're Chanel espadrilles, if you know, you know. And I loved them. They're so cute. They go with everything. They were so comfy.
Starting point is 00:20:24 Cost per wear for me, by the way, very, very low. Yeah, you wear them a lot, which I think is why I like them so much. And have done for years. Because I see you wear them with different things. They look really cute. And I borrowed yours. I was like, I need a pair. And I told you you're not getting a pair because they were a dumb decision from me, weren't they?
Starting point is 00:20:40 they are spenno um so i'm sitting here contemplating away how do i fit this into my budget and then two days later who slides into my dms with victoria divine with a link to very similar shoes on the outnet by i think it was sam edelman yeah and not only were they like a tenth of the price to begin with so less than a thousand men i feel attacked by your money win i think for price they were like 140 maybe but they were 60 off on sale so under 100 bucks for a nice new pair of shoes that i really wanted chanel shoes money well i mean they weren't inspired oh they weren't no same style that is a money win but that shows you how guilty i felt for influencing her i was like oh my god she cannot buy this like
Starting point is 00:21:28 this was the worst decision for me as well like so i did the research you get your good probably not a good decision for me right now while i'm saving for a house yeah true but i did my research i looked up all of the things that i probably should have done when i was looking for these shoes and made the bad decision and sent her i think i sent you three options and said here's three options but these ones are my favorite and you also i agree anyway would you like me to find you some shoes online as well ryan yeah sure not like not like gucci boat i'll find you something the gucci the furry gucci slides really yeah like do you like the gucci i thought you were saying really i love them
Starting point is 00:22:10 could you imagine me wearing i think i think genuinely they'd suit you but you could get them so they're like they've got fur lines and when you wear them at the moment on the laptop yeah when you wear them the first it's at the back when would i ever wear something like that i don't know but you can get 100% fur ones so you look like you're standing on a dead animal
Starting point is 00:22:35 while you walk around. Yeah, or you're meant to be on Star Wars. Either or. I hate it. If they're 100% fur they just look like the old Crosby's.
Starting point is 00:22:43 What? You know those old slippers that look like a dog? Crosby? Oh yeah, that's what I was going to say. What did I say? Crosby.
Starting point is 00:22:49 Yeah, same, same. Double or not the same. What's your money win? I had a money win. So I bought a couch off Facebook Marketplace in November. See, you should have
Starting point is 00:22:58 been saving that for next week's episode what are you doing well that's why i got the idea from because i was like oh there's a lot of facebook the worst so well i'm also moving house so there'll be lots of wins and losses from facebook marketplace but this one i bought a couch in november now i'm selling the same couch now in april for the exact same price oh that is an epic money win she retained her value she did quite well even though bj the dog has slept on it like a hundred times oh no did you try at least what it why would i say that they've already bought it by the way bridge is sitting in the corner of the
Starting point is 00:23:33 studio eating some dinner having a good time you at the gym bridge came over to hang out with us to do the pod while we drink and drive me home yeah sweet i like that so i reckon with that it's our time for bridge to drive ryan home and before that happens we'd like to acknowledge and pay respect to australia's aboriginal and torres strait islander peoples the traditional custodians of the land the waterways and the skies all across australia we thank you for sharing and caring for the land on which we are able to learn we pay our respects to elders past and present and we share our friendship and our kindness she's on the money is general in nature and does not consider your individual circumstances she's on the money exists purely for educational purposes and should not be
