Starting point is 00:00:00 She's on the money. She's on the money. Hello and welcome to She's on the money, the podcast for millennials who want financial freedom. This is our Friday drinks episode where we celebrate the money wins from our She's on the money community. There are so many great money wins and confessions that are shared every single week in our Facebook group. And our team spend a very big portion of each day talking about you guys on our Slack chat
Starting point is 00:00:35 and how impressed we are with your money wins. So it only feels fair to share all of that info with you, even though we are still recording remotely. We are celebrating you and this episode is entirely for you. So sit back and hopefully enjoy it. Friday is about celebrating our community and having more positive and constructive conversations around money. So let's jump straight into it. Tony, you are here this week. What was this week's Money Diary about? This week, we chatted to a young woman who quite a few years ago took off overseas, like quit her day job, took off and started working in a monastery and fell in love with a boy. At a monastery?
Starting point is 00:01:17 At a monastery. He was not a monk. I was going to say, is that a straight lead? It doesn't sound like it's okay. He was also volunteering. It's okay. It all checks out. We did check it out. We did ask.
Starting point is 00:01:29 We asked a lot of questions, a lot of real pervy questions. We're like, hold up, you met at a monastery and we're expected to believe this? And, Ryan, you should know because don't you listen to all of our episodes? I do. Okay, so, Ryan, what was it about this week? Well, we met in a monastery. And then what happened?
Starting point is 00:01:46 What's her job now, Ryan? Her job is just to live her best life, and she continues to do so. It's true. I mean, you're almost correct. Almost correct, yeah. Apart from the thing, obviously. Apart from how she's about to become a priest. That being the thing.
Starting point is 00:02:02 So her mum took out a massive loan to get her home and fill out a partnership visa and all of that and went into a bit of debt over it. And, yeah, she paid off all the debt, and now she's about to become a priest. And it was really cool. It was so cool. So because this week, Armani Dyrus was a priest
Starting point is 00:02:21 and the week before that, we had a stripper. So it was amazing. What's next week? What can be possibly next? We literally, we can't predict it. I really loved that chat, Tony, because I felt like she was just so open and honest and kind and the fact that her and her partner both want to become priests
Starting point is 00:02:37 and feel like they have this wholesome, exciting lives. And I just, I honestly loved hearing her story. And we talked about the episode where we had our friend, the stripper on. And she was just like, yeah, I loved that she was, you know, living her best life and felt really confident in herself. And I just felt like it was an important story to share because we all come from such diverse backgrounds and have different experiences, but we all kind of relate and we all have something in common and we're all kind of working here at She's On The Money towards a very common goal, which is just feeling heard and feeling understood and,
Starting point is 00:03:10 you know, being on the same page when it comes to finances and, you know, being empowered. So I loved that money diary for that reason. She was also a mega investor. She's invested like so much money. She's got a crazy investment profile. Like she honestly, a really, really interesting person. So if you're interested whatsoever, which you definitely would be from hearing that, have a listen to this week's money diary because it was like a rollercoaster. It really was. It really was. And I didn't know anything about it before we did it. And I was just like wait what you're doing what so it was very exciting and it was kind of like oh i met my partner at a monastery and i was like hold up friend why were you at a monastery she's like okay
Starting point is 00:03:49 well and it just it didn't take the turns i expected but i'm just so grateful for that story i feel like we learn a lot from it georgia did we have just as interesting a deep dive wednesday maybe not as interesting v but i think it was still pretty good who's with me it's it was pretty good it was pretty good thanks guys for those who missed it what did we miss out on this week so this week we spoke about career changes which is something I think a lot of people in our community are really well it's it's a conversation that we have a lot because careers I guess is something that we have to pick when we're in year 12 and like we're 17 we don't know what's going on. So we kind of, we spoke about how to figure out where you want your career to go
Starting point is 00:04:35 if you do want to change it. I feel like it was another one of those episodes that was really impactful, but still a little bit fluffy, not in a bad way, just more around you need to be empowered. You need to be confident. You need to follow your dreams and what you want to do, not necessarily worry so much about what other people are doing, which I feel like so many of us need at this point especially coming up to mid-year when we're talking about into financial year just I feel like it's on everybody's minds if they're not that comfy in their career or their job they are thinking like oh it's been nearly six months oh my gosh I can't believe it's been six months because even me who adores my job I'm still like what it's been six months it's June
Starting point is 00:05:14 that's crazy so I think it's a good time to have that conversation but also from our Facebook group perspective, there's been a lot of career questions coming up and a lot of people wondering what they should be doing as next steps or, you know, how do they navigate this? So it just felt really well-timed. And I think you're a good person to have that combo with. Yeah. Well, we spoke about why it's so important not to just quit your day job right now, because it's really important that we stay on top of our finances, get those bills paid. But we spoke about strategies for how you can go about starting that little next venture if that is what you want um yeah so it's a good absolutely I think something that's really important to touch on if you did miss the
Starting point is 00:05:54 episode is just that piece around it's actually really entitled to think you can quit your job and just go from there like not many people are in the position where they can quit their job and just find their dream job and that being okay with your job at the moment is really cool and don't be worried if you're not where you want to be right now because that's the space where you get to dream about the person you want to become and you get to create that person and you know plan for that reality in the walls that you're surrounded with right now might not be the walls you want to be surrounded with forever but you actually get to plan that future from those walls and you can't actually make a plan unless you create that plan and those walls as much as
Starting point is 00:06:33 they're the walls that you feel kind of trapped by right now they're the ones that are going to support the ideas that your future becomes and I think that that was a really important point because you know you might be in a space that you're just not that comfy or happy and I think that a lot of people are going through that feeling right now but if you start planning and start creating you're going to feel super comfy later and you'll look back and be like wow I'm so grateful for these experiences and things I've gone through yeah beautifully put there V we also spoke about how FOMO can really play into making career decisions and how Instagram comes into it as well uh so if you guys did miss that episode i would definitely recommend going back and having
Starting point is 00:07:11 a listen i agree now jess we usually throw to you what are we drinking this week my friend uh well we're all in lockdown so i have a mandarin juice that i'm drinking but ryan i've never even heard of mandarin juice is not a thing where did you even buy that jess come on Jess you're joking I know I juiced a mandarin so that's on me who does that what kind of savage are you you are bored at home in lockdown I'm feeling real attacked right now um but Brian you were chatting us up about a little something that you had going on drinks wise it sounds a little more interesting than my mandarin juice what do you mean I've got a drink bottle is that not good Tony and I have matching drink bottles so our glorious leader
Starting point is 00:07:58 Victoria Devine bought a lot of us on the team a Provador fancy dinner thing last week which was awesome oh yeah just so you know I am a really good person like I bought you guys vouchers for food does it get better than that it does because you can add to it I want to send a shout out to the Everly Bottling Co and I'm showing you guys on our screens as we're chatting um I got an old-fashioned but there's heaps of these little pre-made cocktail little bottles and they're just like a bunch of guys and girls in collingwood and because everyone's in lockdown they're making these like fun little takeaway packs and they come in as you guys can see these fun little bottles they had all these different sorts so the everly bottling co and like i said just a little melbourne
Starting point is 00:08:36 business with a whole bunch of bar staff that are out of work so that it's good that they can keep busy and keep working and doing stuff um so we're all in lockdown and separated from each other but that's that's our little fun drink for the week let's put their info in the show notes so you guys can support them as well because one those bottles are really cute two cocktails are really important and really important for our mental health during lockdown but three i think jess and i are actually eyeing those bottles off because they would actually be perfect to propagate plants with so for anybody who read my mind yeah anybody who's just been looking for the perfect bottle to stick your cuttings in so that they can propagate i feel like that would be the piece
Starting point is 00:09:13 de resistance kind of bottle you know well that's why it's empty but still in the house because And it's the same in our house with jars. Anytime there's a good jar, Bridget's like, don't throw that out. Don't throw it away. Bridget is my spirit animal. Perfect for all your liberated cuttings. I get liberated, not stolen, liberated.
Starting point is 00:09:31 All right, let's move away from stealing plants again, Jess, and go straight into Ryan's community money wins. What have you got for us this week, Ryan? All right, now there's a lady named Georgie, and I don't know if you guys have seen this post. I assume she works at like an appliance store or something like that, because she said a customer brought in a broken 500 coffee machine like they brought it back into
Starting point is 00:09:54 the store and said i think this is broken right um the supplier said destroy the machine give him a new one it's done and dusted but our mate george yeah so our mate george and apparently that must be common in you know retail yep it's broken just replace it get rid of it but destroy it can't we donate it well this is where georgie comes into her own she says to the boss hey i know that's kind of been written off but can i just take it home and see if i can't get it working so georgie takes it home she says a few screws and a bit of you know elbow grease not only is the coffee machine working she now has a beautiful coffee machine in her own house that she's allowed to keep which she got for free and double money win says georgie she now does not
Starting point is 00:10:33 spend four dollars fifty a day at the cafe getting a flat white because she's making her own coffees double money win for georgie that is a money win if ever i heard one especially you know i'm a bit partial to a good coffee i hope she's using i'm sure she is um so i don't know if any other people have had this but i know a lot of the she's on the money community are students and young and have concession cards or health care cards and stuff right so nicole said money win i was chatting to my gas and electricity provider just to check everything was on you know going to plan and it was all in and it turns out they hadn't ticked the box that said she's in fact a concession card holder so she got a 586 dollar refund because they backdated it since the time that they thought
Starting point is 00:11:20 they'd put in the little tick but they hadn't ticked the box money win oh my god yeah so if you are one of those people that you know it's for a lot of things electricity gas even your my key card train tickets it's cheaper if you're a student double check yeah 580 and if you're not sure just call up and say excuse me i was just wondering and if you're a melbournian i know you've got the time for it at the moment you have literally no excuse my friends um absolutely so victoria yes this is like a two-parter um first because it's about shoes so i want to get your thoughts on this uh callie says i saw a pair of shoes on instagram that i really loved so what i do is when i'm sitting on the couch late at night and i find something
Starting point is 00:12:03 i put it in the cart but i just leave it in the cart overnight and then if i still want to buy them the next day that's my strategy how do we feel about this strategy i mean i'm glad yes oh okay jess all right no the question was for me but okay oh sorry no no i'm kidding i'm kidding a marketing tactic to get people to purchase product is more often than not if you leave something in your cart for 24 hours there's an auto email that kicks in with a discount code to prompt you to make the purchase so you can do it if you're going to buy it anyway you just wait to day and you get the discount yeah yeah more often than not it's like a like you know you get those hey did you leave something in your cart like almost like a lot of companies will have
Starting point is 00:12:44 that and it's a marketing tactic to encourage people who forgot about purchases or elected not to make them uh so if you're planning on buying something do it wait 24 hours and just see if you get one all right that is not kelly's money win but that is a great money win nonetheless sucked into every company that's now going to have everyone just loitering in the car so anyway callie had put the thing in put the shoes into the cart and was like okay i'll see what happens see if i still really want to pay for it see if i get a discount then because the cookies and stuff knew that she was looking at the website she gets this sponsored post from the same company saying we're having a competition you could win a free pair of shoes so she said i got
Starting point is 00:13:23 the pair of shoes i wanted for free and i got a pair for my friend as well that's a 390 dollar money in for the two of us without spending a cent okay that's not that's wait she won that never happens i didn't know that people ever actually win those things i enter competitions all the time oh my gosh i actually to chime in with my own self-centered story guys i actually won when i was at uni two pairs of tony bianco shoes that's good yeah money win i won them on instagram way back when literally the only thing apart from that time i won a year's ice cream that was pretty good too yeah but I won these shoes and I remember really ruminating over the purchase because you know how expensive Tony Bianco shoes can be like they're not like $80
Starting point is 00:14:09 shoes they're upwards of like $150 a pair so that's Spenno so anyway I had two vouchers for two pairs of shoes and I was so excited and I picked what I thought would be kind of like timeless and I'd use them all the time and I'd wear them out right no sir no that looking back on that victoria a pair of platformed closed toe red suede shoes with bows on the side and a pair of platform black heels with leopard print they're not timeless they're not even classy what are you doing that sounds like the footwear edition of your kitchen v it's really bad it's it's oh my god yes i don't even have them anymore because i genuinely don't even wear platformed shoes anymore but i just don't know what i was thinking i remember just being like i'm gonna get so much
Starting point is 00:14:54 wear out of these no absolutely not i'll post a picture on my instagram today so you guys can see exactly what they looked like because obviously i was very proud of that win and so i did take a lot of photos of those shoes hey sophie marshall she said i did a proper clean of my bedroom which actually her definition of a proper clean is i didn't just vacuum around the bed i actually vacuumed under it as well and are you guys all ready for a really big gasp and uh she said look out team i found a two dollar coin under my bed money win two bucks that's great we'll take them when it comes to coins that is the premium coin to find yeah what are you gonna get with that like a sausage sizzle from bunnings or something like that's pretty good yeah almost two mcdonald's
Starting point is 00:15:46 off serves yes there you go you can get two 30 cent cones for less than two dollars these days apparently they're not 30 cents they're a dollar 20 now ryan we have had this argument on this podcast how old am i how old am i i don't know but they definitely used to be 30 cents and now it's called inflation ryan look it up i'm sorry that was mean nope that's leave that's staying in the podcast ryan what is your next money win uh i've got two more to go this uh second last one uh not as fun but i just think it's really important to share um someone has said that they really needed to see a psychologist but they've put it off because last time they had a bad experience and it ended up being really
Starting point is 00:16:29 expensive and they felt like they didn't get much out of it uh but she says i randomly came across this lady that works about five minutes down the road and it's fully bulk build so medicare takes care of all of it it doesn't cost her a cent she said i'm currently not working at the moment which is you know adding to the the you know need to see someone and speak to someone um so she's like that's just really helped me out and considering a lot of us are in lockdown or just coming out of lockdown um just know that there are actually a lot of options i know like i've seen someone and sometimes it takes the second or third professional to kind of click and go yeah they get me yeah um so the fact that this person wasn't put off by a bad experience
Starting point is 00:17:07 and then eventually found their person i just i don't know i think that's really important to yeah so thank you very much to the lady that shared i won't say her name because you know just for the privacy of the story but i do really appreciate you sharing it because i think it's really important um now finally people might have seen this picture in the group and i actually love going through before this segment and looking at all the money means it's actually really fun to read through but this one just has really got me all worked up and excited her name is alan and first of all alan congratulations she just purchased her first home it's her own property so well done what a legend um now because property is really expensive because of jess
Starting point is 00:17:46 inflation alan got a house that needed a bit of renovations i feel like most people our age we can't get the fully finished version we get what we can and we go yeah i've watched the block enough i'll figure it out so ellen managed to find and i this has blown my mind a entire complete second-hand kitchen from facebook marketplace she manifested it she did it she did it six hundred dollars for an entire kitchen and he even threw in the kitchen sink um she said a coat of paint some second-hand appliances i did the tiling myself a whole new gorgeous brand new looking kitchen for less than three thousand dollars and as someone who loves looking at houses and pictures i can confirm it looks unbelievable it looks so great pixar it didn't happen guys
Starting point is 00:18:37 well there's a picture alan britain go and look in the thing but it's unbelievable to find a secondhand kitchen on facebook marketplace i am done cancel the segment we can't beat that i can't beat that i feel like that is an epic money win like that's so much money that she would have saved and as someone who's literally looking into kitchens and right now cannot afford a new one we're talking marketplace why haven't i looked there i could do this maybe like probably not but like i'm hopeful i'm hopeful and it's just important to be positive no you won't get it because you don't believe in manifesting like jess i do too it's ryan that doesn't believe in manifesting well i'm not the one with the 600 kitchen so jokes on me really
Starting point is 00:19:21 all right so we are back and tony you've got something that you want to share with us but you've actually been gatekeeping this particular piece of content all week and haven't let georgia ryan or jess see it or understand it so tell us what are you going to share with the community I hope it was worth the gatekeeping that you have done well it's definitely not that good and now you've really built this up so maybe if you're not interested maybe just skip forward a few minutes um but after all the chat this week about changing careers after um you and gee chatted about it in the deep dive and we've had heaps of questions lately um about people talking about hold on hold on are you gonna quit yes what's going on here you're like I have come to the realization that
Starting point is 00:20:15 and I just wanted to share with you guys. Now I know I can change careers. This is how she quit her last job, guys. It is how I quit my last job, actually. She literally told them on a podcast that she was quitting. How many podcasts can you quit on in one year, Tony? That's enough. That's enough.
Starting point is 00:20:32 But I think in the last year, lots of people have had time with lockdowns and with COVID have had time to reflect on their careers and thought, actually, you know what, this doesn't spark joy and it doesn't make me happy. but someone posted in our group this week chatting about redundancies so Jacqueline posted would love to hear from people who have come out the other side of a redundancy and never looked back I can apply for a redundancy and the payout is significant would probably cover close to two
Starting point is 00:21:00 years of my current after-tax salary which is huge whoa but I'm one of those risk-averse people that has been at the same organization for well over 10 years the same role for six years which i enjoy and i love my team and i've never been unemployed so jumping off this cliff seems really scary but also it's a once in a lifetime opportunity um but i wanted to ask v if this is something you deal with a lot do you see financial advice clients that have gone through redundancies yes and i actually have family and friends who have gone through them and sometimes redundancies aren't a choice and you just get told one day hey you've been made redundant and the choice has been taken out of your hands and there is a redundancy payout there's actually a redundancy
Starting point is 00:21:45 tax level so to make sure that you're in the best possible position but it's a fickle position to be in when someone says hey you've got the opportunity to apply for a voluntary redundancy because it means that the business needs to decrease their headcount but they're giving you the opportunity to exit and yeah it can be up to two years worth of pay like if you've been working for that company for upwards of 10 years like the example you just gave that could be a six-figure payout and it could be you know preferentially taxed in a way that you kind of go well that's actually an opportunity to get ahead if you know that you're employable and you're able to actually you know find another role relatively easy I think it's one of those opportunities that are a bit of a
Starting point is 00:22:31 once-in-a-lifetime thing like someone's essentially saying hey do you want this payout I'm going to give you an entire house deposit i'm going to give you you know an investment portfolio if you quit your job but i think the thing to really take into consideration there is one she says she loves her job so maybe it's not worth it but two how re-employable are you just on that v are you able to have a look around on seek and linkedin and get it before you even decide totally and it's not illegal to do your resume and start applying for jobs the second you've got some kind of inkling that that might even be offered to you i'm very much a put your fishing rod out there and see if you catch a whale kind of girl but i think that you know if it's something that you
Starting point is 00:23:14 could be re-employed relatively easily then absolutely consider it but i don't think that there's a right or wrong or a right way to go about this like if it works for you fantastic if you see the benefit of doing it then great can i throw a random thought at you v yeah of course with the example we've just heard from Tony I don't know why but in my mind it's one of those if you're wanting to leave anyway or maybe needing a push or some encouragement because you wanted to go maybe but the fact that she actually said I actually quite like it here and I'll get along with everyone for me that I don't know why that just stuck out in my mind and made me feel a bit a bit uncomfortable considering like you said it's so competitive
Starting point is 00:23:53 out there that if you're on a good thing whereas if you're kind of wanting to leave anyway hey what a great opportunity but if you don't want to leave I'm quite conservative so I'd probably say oh no thank you like I love my job I don't want to leave if I was employed but also I know people who have been erring on the side of oh should I leave I don't know this is such a good job but I haven't experienced anything outside of this business and I'm not sure if I take the next step or not I've got really great career progression here I think like I'm just not you know nothing's really come to me and then when voluntary redundancy was on the table they were like all right that's the push I need like I want my payout I'm gonna go find a new role even if
Starting point is 00:24:30 it's really similar to what I'm doing right now and it's not necessarily a step up I got that payout to make that everybody ideally wants a stable level of employment and that's why you're loving the job that you've got because of the stability it forwards you and maybe the team that surrounds you so it would be a really big change and I just I don't know what would you guys do Jess if I offered you a heap of money to leave she's on the money is that where you're off two it would depend how much money to be honest like i really haven't worked here long enough what is staying with victoria really worth to you jess it's worth a lot i hope but also like if i offered you a voluntary redundancy you could go work for like my millennial money or something
Starting point is 00:25:11 oh glenn james please take me i love your jess we could you could have two you could have two jesses just squared um no but like as someone who's been made redundant like on the flip side of that i was made redundant twice in 18 months from the same company sorry yeah from the same company i didn't know that so i worked in real estate and as you know real estate is really up and down and so uh the person i worked for the first time restructured her team she ended up getting pregnant which is very exciting um and there was just a shift in the dynamic and in the workload and obviously i wasn't needed so i was made redundant and i ended up uh like within four days of being made redundant another agent who worked for the same company at a
Starting point is 00:25:56 different office um who i had met previously heard what had happened and was like if you want a job it's yours like i know that you're great like whatever come work for me which i did and then the market bottomed out uh within eight months and they laid off probably four or five people in my office um and they ended up sending a lot of the work overseas so yeah so victoria divine one and that's how we got Jess um but it's just one of those things like it's hard I think this situation is really great because she has the opportunity to make a decision and I think as you were saying it sounds like she's leaning towards staying and I think that there's nothing wrong with that if you are happy and you like your job there's no reason that you should feel
Starting point is 00:26:42 like a certain amount of money will buy you out essentially would be my perspective I mean everything's got a price though no i mean 10 years that would be a really nice really nice redundancy package enough to make me think about it that's for sure i am hurt georgia what do you think would you take the cash it is a really hard one and it probably depends on her financial position right now as well but what i would say is that you really can't undervalue uh the power of a good team and people that you love coming to work and seeing every day like for me I would rather earn peanuts and come to a team that I love every day rather than go to a workplace that I hate um but I'm making bank you know so that's something to consider as well not that the new
Starting point is 00:27:30 workplace would be like that but it's something to kind of think about Georgia doesn't work for us guys no I do work here no you don't are we the peanuts people or are we the rude people which camp are we your peanuts too guys oh that's not true Tony what do you reckon well so I'm a super cautious person um so when I saw the post I was like oh my god don't do it stay at the job um but there is like 200 comments on here saying do it do it do it do it you won't regret it uh I took a redundancy um and it was the best thing that ever happened to me obviously i think that a lot of these people saying this have taken it um by choice it hasn't been forced upon them which obviously we can't comment on because only jess has been made redundant and i mean it led her here
Starting point is 00:28:21 so she's fine um but yeah there's so many people i was really surprised like older people um that have taken uh voluntary redundancies and never looked back and it was the best decision that they ever made and a comment here that i know that ryan you will love because it sounds just like an anecdote that you would spout that says take the plunge ships are safe in the harbor but that's not what ships are built for what i mean i love the quote but why am i penciled in as the guy that loves inspirational quotes because you always say quotes about ships i was gonna say you love quotes about you always say have you got a different ship quote for us yeah well my mom always said i was full of ship so you know oh nice very good very good i quit all right with
Starting point is 00:29:08 that rap ryan i think we move on to our team money wins and confessions and then wrap the show and head off so who is going to volunteer his tribute to go first i'll go first i'll go first oh good oh i want to nominate someone but we've got g king jumping in what does she want to get it out of the way oh no i'm gonna double down on my newsletter recommendation if anyone read it from last week um did you get gastro from the shrimp no because it is great shrimp so for those of you who don't know here's the story what did you recommend this gorgeous brand of frozen prawns uh you can get about a kilo for maybe 18 i can't quite remember the price tony's vomiting something's happening sorry no tony obviously didn't read our newsletter
Starting point is 00:29:56 girl highly recommend sign up on our website g king writes an impeccable newsletter with many many harry styles gifts oh yeah i cannot tell you how many snorty laughs i let out when i have to pre-free that stuff honestly sometimes i'm like georgia what have you done she's like no no no trust me the people will love the prawns i don't know if they did but honestly the people who love the prawns they are delicious if you're looking for a special treat for your friday night guys head down to your local pick up a bag of prawns pretty sure in the newsletter she referred to it as a bag of peas like just the letter p i'm so sorry um no but if you are in the market couldn't recommend them highly enough i can't remember the brand but we might
Starting point is 00:30:42 link in the show notes maybe so keep an eye out no we won't we will not be linking that in the I have standards and we are not linking to frozen prawns in our show notes Georgia King you'll regret it you'll regret it there's just no way all right well we might put it on our Instagram stories as a reminder for those of you who missed out on their newsletter recommendations with a little swipey up link so you can join and never miss out again all right moving on from Georgia's hot deal Jessica Ricci what have you got to share can it compare honestly nothing could um but if you follow us on socials you might have heard i got a kitten you did yay you guys like yeah you told us like 50 times this week stop putting it on zoom we're still love it um but my money win
Starting point is 00:31:30 she's a beautiful sweet little thing i adopted her from the lost dogs home um but she's a little bit older so she's over 12 weeks and they were telling me that apparently most people want a really little tiny baby um obviously she's still small she's still really playful but because she was over 12 weeks instead of her adoption fee being 300 it was only 120 that's a money win yeah and you can't put a price on the extra money for prom absolutely all right so my money win this week i actually went through all my subscriptions and tried to figure out what i need and don't need and for work stuff i have subscriptions to like audio production sounds adobe audition and photoshop all these video stuff and i actually
Starting point is 00:32:16 found one that i could pay a little bit more for and get access to like the one big one replaced five smaller ones that i had if that makes sense so just paying for a one gold standard thing where i can get all these sound effects music beds and stuff like that i paid heaps more for that and then i actually saved about two hundred dollars a month because i got to cancel four other subscriptions so if anyone else wants good music beds hit up ryan for a link well maybe not that specific one relatable but checking your subscriptions and actually thinking what you actually use and then see if you can bundle them um there's heaps of money to be saved and that's a money win every month because it's you know on and on and on so that was a huge win for me
Starting point is 00:32:56 that's a good one all right v what do you got okay i think that this is a very relatable money lots and you would have thought that being forced to stay inside our houses would mean that I would indeed eat the food I have at home and that is not true that is not how this week has worked out incorrect incorrect really really bad spending this week on food I feel like Uber Eats and I have become even closer friends I have been treating myself I've had in the last two weeks and this is not a flex I'm actually a little bit like oh I can't believe we've done that we've had two provador dinners and that that stuff adds up and well i feel like we definitely deserved it because it's been really hard this time especially last week when they told us that they were
Starting point is 00:33:39 extending it again i've ordered a sneaky dinner that day to just like give us something to look forward to in iso but i just feel like it has felt a bit harder this time like i feel like we're all going a bit crazy a little bit sooner so you know i'm not mad that i'm doing that but for my health I am trying to be better this coming week and for the poor vegetables that are you know slowly becoming really soft in the bottom of my fridge withering away yeah they're withering away I feel like I need to do the best by them as well so I'll definitely be prioritizing that in the week to come but I have been eating not so well and it's been a little bit spino like watching it add up oh like when uber eats reminds you that you've like upgraded I'm like oh please calm down you don't
Starting point is 00:34:22 well i saw a meme that sums up your situation victoria and it's actually describing what you're describing so it's like a quote meme and it says i might treat myself tonight and the quotes by me the person who treats themselves daily yeah that's that's me this week i'm usually really good and you know prior to lockdown jess and i had committed to taking lunch to work and we were just being so good in the office and everybody was starting to do it And Tony's shaking her head. I don't think we were. Where was I?
Starting point is 00:34:55 Was that before I started? No, it wasn't. Was that many months ago? Okay. Literally the week we went into lockdown. I was internally rolling my eyes going, this does not sound familiar. No, Jess and I did start. She's been making guacamole and we've been having guac and chips.
Starting point is 00:35:11 And then we've been eating rice cakes and peanut butter. No one said it was balanced, but we are eating food that we brought from home. Good job. We're going to stop treating ourselves by making guacamole and chips to have on a weekday lunch. Hey, stop it. That's vegetables, right? That's vegetables.
Starting point is 00:35:26 And sometimes we would dip carrot sticks and that is balanced. Anyway, Tony, have you got a money win or confession to round out this episode? Mine's kind of similar to yours, V, because obviously being in lockdown, it's been a long couple of weeks and I am not someone who likes to hyperbole but it has been rough and last week i talked about how i'd been buying things online to try and make myself feel better um so mine this week is kind of a win because something that i ordered online uh they oversold it so i got the money back and instead of tucking
Starting point is 00:36:07 the money back into my account i put it into my raise so instead of just like enjoying the money that i got back i was like you know what that money's already gone so i'm gonna tuck it away and it's gonna work for me instead of some new pants i'm gonna have more money she's a genius i love that all right with that tony i think that that is all we have time for today so just before we head off we'd like to acknowledge and pay respect to australia's aboriginal and torres strait islander peoples they're the traditional custodians of the lands the waterways and the guys all across australia we thank you for sharing and for caring for the land on which we are able to learn we pay our respects to elders past and present and we share our friendship and our
