Starting point is 00:00:00 She's on the money. She's on the money. Hello and welcome to She's on the money, the podcast for millennials who want financial freedom. Welcome back to another one of our Friday drinks episodes where we celebrate the money wins from our community each and every single week. There are always so many great money wins and stories in our community and this is our time to share them and have a chat about them and also catch up on what's been going on with the team for the week. So let's jump straight into it. Tony
Starting point is 00:00:42 Lodge, what happened on Money Diaries this week? So this week was a bit of a different vibe for our Money Diaries. Often we hear stories about what people have been through and how they've come out on the other side and how they're doing amazing now and and all of that you kind of hear the the happy ending of the stories and this week we chatted to someone who is like dead in the middle of her story so she um she had a business and it was thriving but she found out she wasn't paying tax she wasn't paying super so she got a massive tax bill and all these things that she didn't really know about because there's no manual to be this is how you start a small business unless you listen to the business bible nobody's ever gonna have these issues ever again obviously
Starting point is 00:01:26 um but she's 27 she's got like 50 and that's it she's kind of like restarting her professional life but how positive was she she was honestly one of the best money diarist because she was like no but i've learned so much and i am taking it all within my stride still in debt still paying it off but better things are coming yeah like imagine going through all of that and still being arguably what people would say is in the midst of it and still being like yep but better things are coming and I've got my stuff sorted out I have a plan and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel it was just I loved it and I loved her and I just felt like she was one of our people Tony and at the end I said oh do you think you'd ever go back into business and she said yeah I
Starting point is 00:02:09 think I would I love that you know and you don't you don't hear that a lot you know kind of people just burned yeah you get exactly you get burned when you do something and then you're like well i'm not gonna try that again like that went terribly but yeah she was super positive so um and in the show notes i actually put prepare to be empowered and it's so true because if you haven't listened to it go back and listen to it i really really loved it jess this week's deep dive i heard had a bit of a different feature had me it did have you what did we talk about this week So, we had a really interesting chat about the psychology behind saving and spending because obviously, Victoria, you have your degrees, multiple, in psychology.
Starting point is 00:02:50 So, I think you're kind of uniquely positioned to comment on that because you kind of bridge the two worlds between finance and psychology. And psychology impacts so much of what we do that we maybe don't realize. Marketing is so strategic and clever. And we spoke about the different personality types when it comes to your money. i feel like we might have got a bit off track is that why the whole team had to do the myers-briggs test and do you know what is actually really interesting jess and i went on such a tangent and halfway through recording that podcast i was like hold up hold up i just want to google this
Starting point is 00:03:23 properly and like look into what the different things are so that i fully understand it because i know exactly what i am in fact i i don't just know it i think i think i'm still certified in being able to analyze the mbti yeah well that's what you get when you have all those degrees i love how you've got a certification and we just did a buzzfeed quiz no no no how's that hextech going for you i did it so that i can like present the results to other people like yeah yeah and yeah i just got a free email yeah yeah and and if you want to do that and get your free email we actually put the link for you to get your free email and mbti in the show notes of the wednesday episode but jess and i literally went on a tangent
Starting point is 00:04:03 and we found it so interesting because it turns out we have exactly the same personality type so historically when i've done it i know that i'm an infj and then jess was like wait hold on let me go into my emails and look it up and it turns out jess is exactly the same and so we put the link in the slack chat of our team which is just like our team group chat i would say and we've been learning a whole heap this week just about what personalities we have and what personality tony is and i think we all understood that that was your personality and i can't remember what you got but i was like oh that makes sense i'm an esfj yeah that makes sense that was like you are absolutely extroverted that's for sure thank you yeah yeah she's our extroverted friend and then we got ryan's and
Starting point is 00:04:46 i wasn't surprised when he's came back with introverted at the start because you're good at putting on a show ryan but i think you like hanging out with your dog is that right yeah humans take energy from me i get my energy from my alone time doesn't mean i don't like uh people it's just like that's where my energy sources are same as me like i obviously adore people but i also love my own time and that's where i get my energy don't get me wrong i do hate a lot of people but it's all about understanding yourself and what you're willing to take on and what you can actually tolerate and i guess to loop back to making this about money because it turns out this podcast is called she's on the money it's all about understanding how you make decisions
Starting point is 00:05:28 around money and where that actually stems from and we discuss just the different money personality types and how you would relate to that and that's how we got off track to mbti because at the end of the day like it's really interesting learning about yourself i think a lot of people if you listen to the podcast and see me on social media you would immediately think i'm extroverted because i'm good at being extroverted i'm good at putting myself out there but the people that are closest to me know that at the end of the day you need to i'm done by yourself yeah i'm done i'm going home i'm probably the first person to tap out when we go out for dinner i'll be like yep cool well that's 9 30 that's me i'm going home to my fluffy socks and my dog and a cup of tea
Starting point is 00:06:10 that's actually why they say partying like when people talk about partying with victoria they called the little ray of sunshine is because you'll never see her out after eight o'clock at nine oh that's really mean what about daylight savings nine o'clock nine thirty speaking of um still having fun after the sun goes down we're drinking while we record this we are and this week i'm actually really impressed with the drink and tony do you want to introduce it so it's a 23rd street distillery gin and tonic no sugar thank you very much um because tonic is like a a hidden sugar demon yeah it doesn't sorry for saying hidden sugar demon i don't know what that means um but it is the 23rd street distillery not hidden sugar demons i think this is the best drink
Starting point is 00:06:56 we've had in ages it is it also says it has a calculated hint of sweetness no sugar but a calculated hint of sweetness what does that mean i don't know but i like it yeah i really like it but in saying that i already knew i was gonna like it because i do really like the 23rd street Oh, I like the way the candle looks. But I also like their gin. And the other day, if you follow me on Instagram, you would have seen me make a gluten-free, dairy-free version of Gigi Hadid's vodka pasta with their vodka.
Starting point is 00:07:27 I sound like an ad. Yeah, you do. I paid for this. I've never even spoken to their PR team. I'd welcome it with open arms, absolutely. If you want to slide into my DM's 23rd Street Distillery, I'll talk to you. But until then, I'll keep making my vodka pasta.
Starting point is 00:07:43 10 out of 10 by the way all right enough about gin more about win did you hear that ryan john what money wins have we got from the community first of all and get ready to cheer and cry this stuff really gets to me maybe that music's not appropriate for this one hey sandy says money win hi sandy booked in an ivf procedure and was asked to do a hsg test before proceeding it costs five hundred dollars yeah uh and as a lot of people may know or may not know ivf as a whole it's really expensive yeah she said i paid the five hundred dollars but i don't need to pay any more money because we got pregnant naturally congratulations can you imagine being like all right we're gonna go through this really expensive
Starting point is 00:08:30 really arduous process like ivf is a big decision yeah to like emotionally taxing as well not even know you're pregnant but how exciting that's really really exciting sandy congratulations she's on the baby she's on the baby she's on the baby coming soon uh jennifer says i worked night shift over the public holidays in western australia over the last fortnight and scored some major penalty rates i earned 500 extra after tax and then went straight into my comsec account and straight towards more shares yay love that great job now emily joined amazon prime for a free 30 day trial i love prime yeah yeah now jesse's literally the prime queen so you're over prime day amazon prime day yeah like how many packages have arrived at our office jessica stay tuned for
Starting point is 00:09:17 that a little later in the show well because it's free shipping for members emily's thought if i get the free trial during prime day i can get all the sales get the free shipping and but it's not she's not done just yet uh i found that she's on the money book for just 19 on amazon and i received a 15 voucher from amazon because it was my first order which means the book cost me just four dollars with free shipping what i'm really excited about that money win for emily money lost for victoria should we be celebrating about that but also i launched my book last week and it's already discounted like i get the point guys we need to move this thing i got this um speaking of the new book oh my gosh yes we had our event last night that was so much fun we had to pull something
Starting point is 00:10:02 together really quickly because we had all these grand plans. We wanted to do this amazing big event, which we will still do on the down low. We're just waiting because, you know, COVID and Melbourne. Yeah, it won't be called the book launch though. We'll find some other reason to have a She's on the Money party. Absolutely. And write it off on text. We did not do that much planning for it to just all go in the bin. Absolutely not. But you know who did do a lot of planning? Our friends at Eubank. They actually helped us bring the event to life, which was amazing and I just want to say thank you so much to them because we gave them pretty much no notice and they were like nope okay great what can we do how can we do it yeah and we want to make it sweet
Starting point is 00:10:39 they're bent over backwards but obviously you guys know that we've never worked with you bank before except Ryan and I once did videos for you bank for their hot dollars campaign and it was actually I love those videos yeah and Jim Ross is the best oh my gosh it was so much fun doing it I remember when they reached out and I was just super stoked because I was like yeah I will do a hot sauce money finance video like I was sold before we even got there anyway through that one thing led to another and I actually got to become friends with their CEO Philippa they've got a casually best friends with the Ubank CEO this is she's on the money like how cool is it that we're now you know being able to work with a bank that has a female CEO and she's just like this ultimate
Starting point is 00:11:21 boss woman that just she runs an entire bank guys like I just think it's so cool and just so inspiring and I am really grateful that when I was like hey guys like are we planning on putting this on because obviously with COVID our actual event has been canned and they're like yep we'll make it happen no problems and they literally worked over the weekend to make sure that everything was good to go by this week which was really sweet. And the event was so much fun as well thank you to everyone who attended we had a great time and it wasn't maybe quite as good as an in-person event but it was pretty freaking close. It was very close. Yeah thank you so much. Was there a DJ who played the saxophone?
Starting point is 00:11:59 There wasn't. Well, it wasn't as good as the real one would have been. Okay, sorry. Sorry, sorry. Oh, spoilers. Way to rain on our parade. Spoiler alert. Jess and I, all right, just to talk about the event that was going to happen.
Starting point is 00:12:09 We obviously could not announce it because the week that we had planned this massive announcement and rollout of what was going on, COVID. Need we say more? But Jess and I had booked, like, peach fairy floss and this, like, DJ that had a saxophone. Like, it was going to be a lot of fun. We went in on this party and we had plans for all of these fun goodie bags and some of our favorite, favorite brands have sent us amazing things. And now we just have boxes of these favorite things and we're like, we will use them. We promise they will get to our audience. They're coming. So I guess keep an eye out, stay tuned. We have no idea when that's going to
Starting point is 00:12:44 happen, but hopefully soon. But we're talking about it, right? And I did pitch the idea that instead of just having one Melbourne event, we do a series of events around Australia if COVID lets us do something like that she's on the road trip she's on tour oh no i like she's on the road she's on the minivan no you guys aren't minivan travelers you're yeah i want a tour bus private jet please can you imagine if we got a tour bus and like paint do you paint it do you wrap it i have no idea i want to make it i want those magnets that they put on the side of a domino's car It says, like, Victoria. Honestly, that's probably all our budget for me.
Starting point is 00:13:25 All right, I've got another book-related money win. Em says, not my money win exactly, but I created a money win for someone else. Oh, my gosh. I left a copy of Victoria's new book on the bench at work in the staff room as an anonymous gift. She didn't like it. She read it, she didn't like it,
Starting point is 00:13:42 and then she left it in the staff room. I said, sorry, Em said, I left it with instructions for them to pass it on to the next person once they had finished oh that is amazing uh follow-up taylor said oh taylor must work with him i found a book in the work lunchroom um and i picked it up this morning thank you very much and then m replied to that it was supposed to be an anonymous gift and now i've outed myself and i believe they both work at woolworth so i was in the staff room around the back of a release that is so cool i love that all right uh lucy says got quoted eight thousand
Starting point is 00:14:17 for dental work which is a lot that's so much money i paid 52 to get a second opinion the new dentist solved my problems on the spot money we have 7148 dollars wow hang on what she's like oh that sounds like a big deal i might just go get it double checked like from another dentist and another dentist like and it costs 50 you don't need that surgery i'll take care of that for you right now yep eight thousand dollars surgery avoided was it a man in the woolworths staff Should we be checking that this is all good? And final one, Indiana says, got $30 worth of chicken for $3 the other day.
Starting point is 00:14:53 Her friend Lucy replied, salmonella for free. Money win. All right, so Tony and Jess, we've been talking this week in the office a fair bit about some changes that are going to be made to super in the next month which I'm genuinely excited about because yay financial freedom but also I feel like we're not talking about it publicly as much as we could so as of the 1st of July our superannuation guarantee which is the amount of super that our employer legally has to pay us is going to increase which I'm so excited
Starting point is 00:15:34 about because over the next few years through to 2025 the government is actually planning on taking our super all the way up to 12%. I didn't realize it was going that high. Yeah. So, it's going up to 12% instead of 9.5%, which is obviously a very significant increase to the amount of superannuation that you put aside. And I think it's well overdue, if I'm being honest, because of inflation and literally everything else. And too many times employers don't give their people pay rises in line with CPI and indexation and the fact that they actually need to increase the amount of money that they have because you know if we distill it down the amount of money that you need today is actually less than what you would need in three years time because you
Starting point is 00:16:17 know a life of bread might be three dollars today but it'll be 350 in you know three years time and that's what inflation actually means like it's inflating costs over time and the rising price of goods and services which is absolutely fine and very normal but I just don't think we've ever kept up with that when it comes to superannuation because what was appropriate when super became mandated in 1992 is very different to what needs to happen now so it to me is well overdue but the conversation that's been happening in the office before i get too technical everyone's like hang on what are we doing what is she doing she was talking about her wins and confessions and community and now she's talking about super we did not tune in for this but it's one of those
Starting point is 00:16:57 conversations that i want to have because this podcast is all about empowering you to have better money conversations and at the moment there is a money conversation that is going to impact everybody who is employed at the moment getting paid superannuation that we might not all be comfortable to have and I thought it was a good time on Friday drinks to have a band with my team about how would you approach this and how do we talk about this with our employer and why are we going to do that so let me just talk for a second about why it's really important for you to have a conversation with your employer about how that change is going to impact you because you might have thought, great, that's fabulous. Where is that money coming from? So, if you have a contract
Starting point is 00:17:36 with an employer that your contract says it includes super, there's a very high probability that that increase in super, it's only 0.5% right now, but over the next few years, it's going to creep up to 12%. So, that could be significant, which is a lot, is going to come out of your take-home salary. So, if you are an employee who is paid on an including super basis, you might have a rude shock coming for you on the 1st of July if you haven't had a discussion with your employer and you don't actually understand it, because they could take that money from your take-home pay and just reallocate it towards superannuation. Is that legal? Look, it is absolutely legal because that's a part of your salary package. So, for example, if I said,
Starting point is 00:18:18 Ryan, you're on a salary of $70,000, including super, very nice, very sexy, they might just reallocate what goes towards super so that they still meet that commitment and it's absolutely well within their rights to do that but i guess that comes into a moral conversation and an actual logical conversation and are you doing the right thing by your employees and yeah we've had a good conversation this week tony how do you feel about it so then would that in that situation be my responsibility to check in that they are doing the right thing because i mean we talk about it all the time how intimidating it is to bring up yeah for sure so i'm supposed to go into my boss's office and you say oh i actually think that you're supposed to be paying me more and if you're not
Starting point is 00:19:00 full bottle on these things which most people aren't because we aren't talking about it it's a pretty terrifying thing to think about asking for more money even when it's not actually a pay rise just like i'm just want to make sure that you're allocating my fees properly so how do you suggest that people tackle that i mean i know that's probably a huge question but what are we supposed to do and that's the conversation I wanted to have my friends I've led you straight there thank you but it is really hard to have that conversation because a lot of us as much as we have these great podcasts I think they're great um podcasts about you know talking to your employer about pay rises like most of us to be honest haven't done that most of us haven't had
Starting point is 00:19:39 that conversation and for scary yeah and for some of us our employers might have sent out a letter already this June and just said hey guys this is how the changes are going to impact you in which case you're educated you know what's going on you've probably been given the right contact details to have a conversation about that but if this is the first time you're hearing about that in my opinion as an employer it's not good enough I am lucky that our team is small enough that I've verbally mentioned it to you guys I think you're across it you know the decision that we've made is accepted by the team you guys are super happy with it it's all well and good right so I don't need to send out a formal letter but if you work in like a big corporate usually the best way for
Starting point is 00:20:16 them to communicate with you guys on a big level is to send out a letter and be like, hey, here's this, here's HR's contact. Here's the time if you want to have this conversation before any changes are made, you need to be having that conversation with your employer now and going, hey, Jess, I noticed that you said that you weren't going to do that, but I really think that, you know, the opposite should be happening or vice versa or whatever you think is fair for your situation. And, you know, not every single business, especially small businesses are going to be in a position where you know budgets might be tight we've just gone through COVID like we're still going through COVID and that could be actually quite challenging for small businesses
Starting point is 00:20:53 to come up with you know it might only be 0.5% of their super contributions but if they're running it on the line and they are you know down to every dollar especially at the moment yeah that's such a big change for a business to have to make that I think that as much as it might be a big change and they might not have to absorb it because I'm kind of on the fence right like I'm not saying give everyone a pay rise non-negotiable like you guys have got that you're welcome it was something that I considered and I spoke to my bookkeeper and I spoke to my accountant it wasn't something that I just said wow we're made of money let's do this it was more like is this the right thing to do how do we do it like I considered all options and made a decision but a lot of other small
Starting point is 00:21:34 businesses aren't in that situation and I think that that then comes down to communication we are all adults we deserve to be spoken to like adults and if our business can't afford it I think that they should just be saying hey Tony you know what this is changing we can't afford it here's why and you'd probably be like yeah no problems like I think it would be really challenging to actually approach that especially if you haven't spoken to your boss or your manager about your salary before because we've all been thrown into this position where something is definitely changing it could impact you regardless of what your job role is so if you're in a position where like well Victoria I don't really care if it comes out of my income or if it, you know, gets added, like, I don't mind either way, then great, good for you.
Starting point is 00:22:14 But some of us budget down to the very last cent and this is going to impact us and we really need to be aware of how to have that conversation. If we work for a big company, is it every individual's job to speak to their individual manager or is it more of, you know, the staff kind of getting together or speaking to their direct manager and saying, hey, direct manager, can you speak to your manager on behalf of the crew? because i'm guessing it's not going to be a oh we'll give it to those three people but not those so it'll be like a company decision like a global change yeah but is there like channels to go through look there are channels to go through i think it's just talking to your direct manager but i also know that this is going to be a fickle conversation and to be honest i am predicting some pretty nasty media articles coming out about businesses who have decided not to increase their employees salaries and decide to just take it from their if i found out they've taken job keeper
Starting point is 00:23:05 and don't pass on this i'm gonna be mad yeah that's a good point if you're in a big company and you go and speak to your manager they're in the same boat as you they also want it it's not like they're the one losing money to give to you they're with you so and that's the hard thing i think every business structure is different and so maybe it's worth when you approach that conversation instead of going oh i'd really like a pay rise saying hey like i want to talk about the super contribution that's being made i think that it's justified and i'd really like to talk to about ensuring that that gap is met by you rather than by it being taken from me. Yeah, exactly right. Yeah. And I think that that is well within your rights to have that conversation. I'm
Starting point is 00:23:44 just going to bounce back to what you were saying before, Ryan, like, you know, do you talk to your fellow staff members about it? Yes and no. Like, I think you should, like, from my personal perspective, absolutely. I'm a very big advocate of talking about your salary and sharing it if you're comfortable to do so. And I don't think that any employer should ever be ashamed of the salary that they're paying someone to the point where they would be mad if one employee spoke to another about how they do though i was gonna say there are make sure they do though because some people but speaking from me as a professional some people have in their contracts clauses to not discuss pay and salary and i just want you to tread really lightly around that because more
Starting point is 00:24:25 recently i've spoken to someone in the she's on the money community who has been told off for talking about pays to one of their team members and they thought they were doing the right thing and to be honest they were from my personal opinion absolutely well within their rights someone new started they were being paid a whole heap more than what they were being paid they approached their manager about it asked for a pay rise and they're like oh no like that's definitely not what they're being paid so they're going back and forth on who's lying and not and it just became an absolute mess so I think it's one of those things where personally of course I think you should be talking about it. We should openly talk about money, but check your contracts
Starting point is 00:25:01 if you're going to do this so that you don't end up in a pickle. Because the last thing I need is you listening to a She's On The Money episode going, I'm so empowered. Like, this is so right. She's so correct. And then finding yourself in HR's office because you weren't supposed to do that. And I know that that's not the world we should live in. And it makes me so mad. But we need to disclaimer it. We need to tell you that. Is that a clause that we should be crossing off the contract before we sign it oh i would i wouldn't sign a contract i would yeah absolutely not because i've worked at a places where they said oh we don't do this and then i rocked up and they clearly did um and they're just like oh we just hope the others didn't tell you about it
Starting point is 00:25:36 that's crazy what yeah it's it just it breeds such a horrible culture yeah of of privacy and also just like you said before victoria if a company is that embarrassed about what they're paying you that they don't want you to talk to each other then it's probably a bigger problem than what you're really looking at if i saw that clause my first immediate thought would be what are you trying to hide yeah exactly right yeah that shouldn't be there if you've got nothing to hide you shouldn't be preventing i honestly feel so bad for your future employers like if you ever get especially jess she's terrifying i know she's so tough oh my gosh like oh people are gonna think i'm mean no you're not mean you're just so assertive so empowered by knowledge
Starting point is 00:26:17 like can you imagine if i gave her her contract and she was like yes just by the way it changed all these clauses i was a nightmare when i worked in retail because i knew all my rights and i told all the other girls what their rights were as well yeah workplaces love that especially retail we'll pop some stuff up online because i think it's really important to talk about but it's also one of those things where this genuinely impacts you and these changes are going to be consistently made until 2025 when we reach that 12% and I think that we need to have these conversations and just get clear on how we can have more conversations. I also have another thing to add. I knew you did. That's why I was like, I trailed off on conversations because you like stuck your
Starting point is 00:27:01 hand in the air and I was like, Ryan, what have you got to tell us? There's been a few stories in the group this week about people not getting paid superannuation. So, just let this be another reminder just always check your payslip anyway check your payslip as well log into your super annuation it is so easy to do if you don't know your super details jump on the ato mygov website log into that and it will tell you when you last got your super payment if you have not got one in the last quarter ask your employer call the cops don't do that they don't care so they're not going to be able to help you at that point they'll be like oh do you even know your login details and you're like no that's why i called you seven but but it's really important to understand
Starting point is 00:27:42 that and if you don't know your login details just call your super fund the amount of times i've said on this podcast that the call center people are really nice really kind people they are so good at what they do call them be like hey my name's victoria um i have a super fund with you guys i just want to know more about it don't know what my details are they go oh no problems we'll sort you out a really good point that i think jess raised last week or the week before is that you are actually paying fees you are paying to be able to access your own information so and yes the fees go to good things but get your money's worth yeah like get your money so if you need help call them like no they can't give you financial advice or they can tell you exactly what your fees are going
Starting point is 00:28:22 towards and all of that so it's just be empowered literally call them be empowered by it and it's one of those things where if someone is not paying you super that is not acceptable full stop end of story not only do they now have to pay you that super they have to pay you what you missed out in interest oh love that yeah i do love that too yeah that's good don't ever let somebody gaslight you which is what they do if they're a bad employer and they are going to not pay your super they'll be like oh no tony maybe you didn't read it right or we only do it this often you'll be like it's been 12 months and then you go you definitely should have i must have been wrong and it's so easy to do so yeah and if you're really confused about when you're meant to get
Starting point is 00:29:01 paid super check your contract because it will say like in the contract it might say and super is paid on a quarterly basis or super is paid monthly with your salary or some people pay it weekly like it doesn't matter but it will tell you how often you were supposed to receive that payment and then you get to go and check if that happened or not like it shouldn't be something that is so shadowed with I don't know how does it work like I get it a payment was meant to happen go check if it happened yeah it'll take you 10 minutes at a maximum it's every three months legally they must pay you that super once every quarter so yeah as you said if it's been three months I haven't done it don't let them be like oh we only pay it twice a year like they have to
Starting point is 00:29:42 pay it and this stuff breaks me like I end up crying at least once a week because of a story someone's messaged me in my dms which I'm so grateful for please never stop but the amount of messages I've gotten after, you know, doing super podcasts or just talking about it on Instagram of people being like, oh, hey, I checked mine and my employer wasn't paying it. And so I followed them up and it had been 12 months or it had been two years. And it's just, it's wild what people get away with because they rely on your naivety. They rely on the fact that you just trusted them to do the right thing. That's gross. Yeah, it is. Yeah. But enough of me ranting on about superannuation and us being empowered, because as you guys know, I literally could go
Starting point is 00:30:21 on forever so let's just do a really quick fire round of our money wins or confessions and then we can run away for the week how about that yay all right i nominate uh jessica g as tribute and she gets to go first because she baited us earlier and said that we had to wait well i have a confession um it was amazon prime day this week and i'm usually pretty good with my money i'm usually quite good about like knowing what i want and waiting for it to go on sale and i did do that But I also found myself with an assortment of items in my cart that I had wanted whimsically at some point or another. And because they were on really good deals for Prime Day, I was like, now's the time. Give me some examples.
Starting point is 00:31:04 What did you get? All right. So, we got something delivered earlier this week into the office. Jessica and I had a hot turn of it. What was it? I got the Split End Trimmer Pro. What even is that? What even is that?
Starting point is 00:31:16 So, it's a device that you, like, essentially it cuts off just the split ends. And when I got it out, Tony looked at me and was like, no, they're not. It's like a rotating blade and it sucks your hair in and specifically targets the split ends. Have you used it? Yeah. I could tell when I saw you earlier today. I was like, she's used the, what's it called? She's slid in pro.
Starting point is 00:31:39 Yeah, she's done it. I will report back on that one. But also, in addition to that, I ended up with a massage gun. Like one of those really, I'm very excited. Can you bring that in? Yeah, absolutely. You didn't even bring that in. Well, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:31:52 It hasn't arrived. Okay. How much was that? So, I think it was $120 down from $200. Okay, that's pretty good. So, it was a good deal, but, like, it's still a lot of money. And, like, I play a sport. I play Ultimate Frisbee.
Starting point is 00:32:04 Get some massage gum. Ultimate Frisbee or a sport? Which one was it that you did? The Ultimate Frisbee community will come for you. I'm trying to remember. It's just you. And do you know what? I do hope they come for Ryan.
Starting point is 00:32:16 And a selection of other delightful items, which arguably I did not need, but I definitely did want, and while I'm very fortunate that I have the room in my budget to do that. You don't anymore. Yeah, that's it. No more spending for the next month. That's right. That's why we can't go out for dinner tonight
Starting point is 00:32:30 because Jess bought a massage gun. Can you imagine? She would say that too. She'd be like, sorry, guys, I prioritised the massage gun. I had fun without me. Tony Lodge, what have you got? All right, so I, very cold winter in Melbourne at the moment, as anybody who is in Victoria will know.
Starting point is 00:32:47 um i've needed a proper woolen coat for a really long time i've lived in melbourne now for four years and still haven't splurged on one and i bought this coat and it was a hundred dollars and um i checked it today because i was like oh did it is it supposed to come with a spare button really dorky i know it is now back to 250 dollars money that was a money win and that was actually such a good purchase from you because you spent so long researching that i did the amount of times that link had come sent to me on slack and you were like what about this and i was like oh what's its composition is it wool and you're like yeah it's wool and i'm like oh that's a good deal a hundred dollars for actually wool coat is it one of those ones that you wear four times a week
Starting point is 00:33:29 every year because your rule is five dollars per wear you'll smash that out in a month a hundred percent and it would have taken me over twice as long if i'd paid full price yeah so i'm very proud of my money win i really liked the coat as well you look very beautiful oh thank you ryan you got one bridget myself and bj we are now a one car family instead of a two car family bj finally sold his car he did he did he barely drove it um so bridget's been catching the tram into work um we barely used the second car so we went you know what two cars though must be nice yeah we both used to have to drive to work and now we don't so we've we've sold one car but not only is the win the money from the sold car we just took it to like a used car sales thing but it's the
Starting point is 00:34:14 second insurance we don't have to pay the second rego we don't have to pay yeah the ongoing i mean you don't need us to tell you that cars just suck money from your life so to be able to remove one of them i think that not only is it a win now but it'll be an ongoing win for us oh good one that's a great win yeah yeah i really like that that makes mine seem not so good now we still want to hear it no well mine's not car related it's actually back fashion related oh it's like not a jacket but it is a robe so i've decided that this is my money win because i have been speaking to the team for a very long time about not owning a bathrobe so i don't own a bathrobe and our friend jess literally could not comprehend the fact that i did not own a bathrobe i live for
Starting point is 00:34:56 my robe yeah it is the best money ever i joined the cult a year ago last when covid first happened and yeah best money ever if you really want to feel good get an ankle length one so I did all my research because I didn't want like they're big bulky things in my head they were like gonna take up all this wardrobe space and like they were gonna be hard to store and turns out I'm definitely not worried about that anymore this prime place in my wardrobe but I did all my research and I was like 150 dollars like this is a lot of money for a robe that nobody else is gonna see and so I started looking into them and I ended up doing this whole poll on my instagram being like guys i want to know where to get the best road the hot topic it was a hot
Starting point is 00:35:40 topic right because they are hard to find and was ikea on the list i feel like ikea ikea got a run someone suggested that thank you very much someone suggested that i do you have to put it together probably it's just a bunch of threads they give you all they don't actually sell they don't sell robes they just sell towels and diy um but i did all my research right and i tried to work out what the best one was i'd been shopping and i didn't like the textures of heaps of them because i'm a very texture based person anyway i opened like the questions on my instagram because like that's the best thing about instagram you can ask the people and they all said skin forward and i was like oh like why didn't i think of that because it's run by joanna who works at
Starting point is 00:36:29 adore beauty and runs the beauty podcast could those girls be any more better at life i don't even and this is not sponsored by the way i actually spent my own money on this like she had nothing to do with this process like i just did my research purchased the thing but it was like 60 bucks in comparison to like the 150 and i got it it is like a cloud i think it has been made out of threads from unicorns and it like it's the best thing in the entire world my cats are obsessed with it i'm obsessed with it i obviously look much sexier at home than i did before and it's got pockets pockets big enough for snacks like as if that's not a money win but anyway that's where i'm at that's a great money win we've got money wins and conventions
Starting point is 00:37:13 done we've talked about robes we've talked about superannuation we've talked about jessica's spending urges this week and ryan becoming a one-car family i think we're done here guys but just before we head off we'd like to acknowledge and pay respect to australia's aboriginal and torres strait islander peoples they're the traditional custodians of the lands the waterways and the skies all across australia we thank you for sharing and for caring for the land on which we are able to learn we pay our respects to elders past and present and we share our friendship and our kindness the advice shared on she's on the money is general in nature and does not consider your individual circumstances.
