Hello and welcome to the She's on the Money Friday drinks episode, a podcast for millennials
who want financial freedom and to learn a bit about what a seltzer tastes like. This
week on Money Diaries, we spoke to our FIFO wife, who was an absolute legend while also
for being pretty incredibly inspiring.
Are you guys sprites?
Cracking into the drinks really early on.
That's fine.
I'm only doing my job here.
So are we.
Come on.
And on Wednesday, we had our deep dive episode
where we had a really good chat about shares,
the share market, which you guys had been asking for.
So this week on Friday Drinks, as always,
we're going to chat money, wins and confessions.
We're going to hear something from Ryan.
He won't actually tell me what his plan is.
It's the top eight money wins of the week.
Oh, okay.
Well, why didn't you tell me that when I was saying,
oh, what can I wrap at the start of the pod?
But also with additional props, question mark?
There's props that I brought in,
but also Natasha has potentially the grossest
and most disturbing money win that you've ever heard,
and we don't recommend it, but it's highly profitable.
Oh.
Highly profitable.
I'm here for that.
And as you could hear, the team,
they are cracking open their hard seltzers,
which we purchased this week,
after seeing how popular they were on TikTok.
And if you're wondering what a hard seltzer is, to be quite frank,
we aren't sure because the label doesn't actually give much away
except for saying it is an alcoholic sparkling water.
What alcohol it's made with, we don't know because it's listed
as alcohol on the bottom of the container instead of like vodka
or gin or rum.
Is it fair to say that this summer was the summer of seltzer?
I feel like they didn't exist last summer.
I've never heard of a seltzer.
But as you can hear from the voices that are already interjecting,
This week we have Rhyanjohn, Jessica Ricci and Georgia King joining us.
Hello, friends.
And I reckon we just jump right in.
First things first, are we enjoying our seltzers?
Yeah, not bad.
It's delicious.
The flavour is holy watermelon and mint.
Do we like that?
I feel a bit like someone left a, what were we eating?
Sourstraps?
I feel like someone left like a sour patch kid in some water
and the residual is kind of just what we're drinking.
Oh, it is kind of sour, isn't it?
It's good, but I feel like there's not enough.
I'm not a big sparkling water person, so I just want more.
Oh, I am.
So I'm not minding this, but it does definitely taste like a watermelon sour patch kid, which I adore.
So I'm not mad about this drink at all.
So straight into money, wins and confessions.
Let's throw this week straight to Georgia King.
Oh, hello.
Hello, Georgia.
How are you?
I'm so well.
How are you?
Yeah, very good.
Feeling much better after being allowed out of our houses this week, I suppose.
Oh, yeah.
It's post-lockdown.
We haven't even spoken about that.
What a privilege it is to be sitting around the table.
No, because we were so excited about the seltzers.
Exactly right.
I'm very grateful to be in a room with my friends.
It is nice.
Socially distanced.
I called you guys friends.
We've made it.
We've made it.
Oh, get in the bin.
Georgia King, money win or confession?
What is it?
Money wins, guys.
Yay.
So remember last week I was writing down everything that I was spending?
Yes.
It was a great success.
So I'm going to recommend it.
I like that.
I was shopping not shopping I was browsing on the weekend picked up a pair of leggings
from Lululemon and I was like George if you buy them you're gonna have to pop them on the list
so I put them back that would not have deterred me but yeah nice I love that so is the list more
about shaming you out of doing things pretty much yeah but it really did it kept me accountable so
I'd recommend um but on top of that my boyfriend also needed a little trimmy trim and I know that
has been a theme around this table as well we have been uh cutting our partner's hair and I
gave it a go have we all now at this table cut our partner's hair yeah but i said i was terrible
at it so i'm not sure what inspired you to actually give it a crack i cried after cutting
james's it was this i didn't i snorty laughed and steve was like i have a meeting on monday
and i was like this is not my problem so georgia how did you go i think pretty well but i mean i'm
no expert but like it looked good what just short back and sides it was so he has quite like long
curly hair and i just made it shorter so just like you know i went around the little his head
i guess is what i'm uh trying to say did you put a bowl on his head no bowl but probably could have
used that it's kind of where it's at he actually said to me before he's like do you think i should
get it cleaned up and i was like what do you mean cleaned up this is professional yeah i was kind of
insulted but i have an idea should we in the spirit of this being a money win put a photo in
the facebook group or a thread and then have everyone post their own photos of their locked
down haircuts and money saving i like that you know diy beauty i diy my own haircuts much to my
hairdresser christy's dismay are you saying this is a home job yeah this is a home job is that why
that side's longer uh probably it's also because i used nail scissors instead of
everyone always says oh my gosh victoria's hair i'm like do not look closely
all right jessica ricci what have you got for us this week uh i have a money win as well
and it's a fun one today we went victoria and i went to purchase some fridge organization for
my fridge thrilling content um it was because it's a money win yeah well at the checkout you
know how normally they sting you at the checkout they did with the chocolates however i there was
a bunch of different crunchies and milky ways and like all these fun things for 20 cents a bar
Yeah, and I've never seen Jessica's eyes light up as much.
And roughly so.
Yeah, and we actually filmed her accepting the job
that she's on the money,
but she was more excited about the 20 cent crunchy.
Like, she was glowing.
She's a sugar fiend.
But I did bring in, for Ryan and George, they had,
does anyone remember the Yowies?
Oh, yes.
Yeah, she bought you guys Yowies.
Is that the one with the toys in the middle?
Yeah, like a Kinder Surprise, but OG.
But better.
Significantly better.
There you go.
Thanks, hun.
Oh, legend.
This is my money win.
Yeah.
Money win.
Thanks, Jess.
Do you bang them to open them?
I don't know.
I feel like the chocolate would go everywhere.
How do you open a yaoi?
You can normally just pry them apart if you're like a kinder.
Surprise.
Oh, yeah, it's easier to pry because they've been in your hot little hand
and they're pretty soft.
To nobody's surprise, they're already getting into them.
What's in the middle of a yaoi?
A toy.
Yeah, but like what kind of toy?
Like an egg with a toy.
I'm excited.
While they're opening their yaois,
I'll tell you about my money winner confession.
This week, it's got to do with parking in the Melbourne CBD again,
which is a running joke for me now.
It's not a joke.
It's my decision.
It's real life.
Parking in the CBD is an actual joke.
Yeah, exactly, exactly.
But this week, I booked one place to park because if you're going to park
in the CBD, you need to forward plan and get your $15 CBD parking.
So I did that and I went and drove into the wrong parking place,
went into work and came out with a $90 parking bill
because it turns out you actually have to pay
even though you paid somewhere else.
They're not all the same place.
Yeah, they're not all the same place.
And yeah, that's my faux pas of the week.
Definitely down $90.
I'm not happy about it, but that's okay.
That's okay.
We live and we learn.
You're having a bad run with car stuff, aren't you?
Honestly, I suck.
That is okay.
That's all right.
Ryan, please take the mic.
Does my money win have to be from this week?
because i've been inspired by jess's fridge story no no it can be from any time all right we've now
you know really opened the rules because i feel like the shiz on the money thrives on the
organizational content yeah i know do you know one of my highest rated instagram stories that i posted
we're not talking sponsored we're just talking most responded to was the time that i showed that
i redid my pantry we're nuts i read bags on my instagram i saw that this week and i was like
Stole my content.
Victoria told me how to do it and I got literally 15 DMs being like,
how do you fold your bags like that?
I once did an Instagram story saying, oh, my God,
Bridget's telling me this boring story about how organised the new jars
in the pantry are and they're all in line.
Did the people come?
Oh, they did.
They should have.
They did.
They did.
Lost followers.
People are like, how dare you say that?
It's so fascinating.
Show us the pantry.
Show us the jars.
She worked so hard on that.
Do you know how long it takes?
Like, I just thought it was about just.
I do because I heard all about it.
Yeah, but I just thought it would be buying some new jars,
popping your produce in it and chucking it in the pantry.
No, no, no.
Millions of millions of hours.
It's actually very disappointing.
I'll let you guys decide whether this is a real young gross boy thing to do
or an actual legitimate money win.
Arguably a gross boy thing.
When I was in a share house, we were going to have a party
and I wanted to make like a punch for the party
and we didn't have a big punch bowl, so I was going to go buy one.
Then I realised that because I lived in a share house with boys,
we didn't have fruit or vegetables.
So, you know the crisper drawer?
Yeah, that's smart.
So instead of buying a punch bowl, I mix the punch in the crisper bowl
and then it's in the fridge.
It's in the fridge.
So when someone wants to drink the...
Did you clean it first?
We cleaned it first, yeah, yeah, of course.
I scrubbed it out.
I don't see a problem with this.
And we put ice in it, then frozen berries, a bit of sparkling,
a bit of vodka, some soda and whatever.
And then all you need to do is open the fridge door,
pull out the crisper and then just dunk your cup in
And it's fresh.
It's in the fridge.
It's ready to go.
There's something about that.
I want to hate it, but I kind of rate it.
I can see me loving that at a house party.
That's genius.
Thank you.
You're welcome.
Now, to the really important questions of this week.
One, Georgia, what was in your yaoi?
Okay, so it's terribly exciting.
It is a small plastic serpent.
Actually, I saw a real snake when I was running the other day,
a real one, small one, similar size to this.
helpful for the listeners who cannot see
what I'm holding. But yeah, I'll be
taking this home with me. I feel like George is really trying to make me
feel good about this giveaway.
George is into it. Ryan, did you
open your yaoi? I have. What have you got?
And I can confirm that Jessica has given
me crabs because
it is a small little crab.
It's orange. It looks a bit real and terrifying.
It does actually, doesn't it? Hold on.
I'm actually really disappointed. Was that put together
or was that something you had
to build? No, that's all as one piece.
You still have to build them.
I'm a fan of the kinder surprises where you get to build the toy.
Not Yowie in the bin.
Sorry, no wonder it was discounted.
It probably will go in the bin.
Makes sense.
All right, let's move on and get cracking on arguably the most exciting part of this show,
and that is where Ryan goes through his top eight.
Last week it was top seven, but this week it is top eight money wins from the community,
and we rate them.
Let's start with Megan McGregor.
I would love that.
Hang on, are we saying the last names?
No last names.
No last names.
Megan.
Megan says, money win, my work upgraded and got a new coffee machine
and they let me take the old coffee machine home and it's amazing.
Both my husband and I are saving heaps of money on buying daily coffees.
That's actually an epic money win.
That's huge.
I love that.
And also, just as a side note, if work has a great coffee machine,
it just really changes the game, doesn't it,
when you can just go and get a free one at work?
Crystal Burton says, I cleaned out some old stuff
and sold my old sports watch and a speaker today
for $400 on Facebook Marketplace.
That's pretty solid.
That's epic.
I like that.
That's a big money win.
And a bit of a theme here.
Michelle says,
my money win is selling my old rollerblades from the late 90s
and scoring $70 in my pocket.
I haven't worn them, Michelle says, since 1998.
And she still sold them for $70.
Yeah, hopefully the young couple can get plenty of wear out of them.
That's kind of cute.
I bought a pair of secondhand skates off of Facebook Marketplace.
How much did you pay?
I paid like $80.
Oh, my gosh.
How was it?
They're white.
They're cute.
They're really fun.
Yeah?
Yeah, I'm into it.
I have rollerblades.
I didn't realize that they'd just been sitting in the shed,
essentially increasing in value.
Good investment.
Good investment.
Rollerblades.
Take that.
Take that, guys.
But just on the theme of the old sports watch and the rollerblades,
if you're listening now,
how much money do you reckon is just sitting around your house in stuff you don't use anymore
oh my gosh we should make a challenge and see who can make the most stuff in a week from selling
stuff they don't use on facebook marketplace you've got a whole room in your house fee all
right i did not need to be attacked that weird internal bedroom thing excuse me how much is in
that in that room i would just like to preface this by saying i recently moved house and my
house is still really messy but at our old house we had a shed and now we do not have a shed so the
contents of my shed is sitting in a spare bedroom sell it georgia how much no i'm not gonna sell it
i love all of that stuff and quite clearly need it georgia how much leftover stuff in your house
do you think or that you own well not a lot so it was a strange noise yeah i feel like i have a
boring answer just you're a bit of a minimalist i'm pretty minimalist yeah jess how much i'm a
quarter so much especially as a content person the amount of like unnecessary just shit oh that
you bought for one photo yeah and you don't want to let go of it like you just hold on to it for
no good reason i have no doubt that jess would run rings around us because the other day she was at
my house and we were doing a content post and she's kind of scurrying around my house pulling
things from bedrooms and something from the bathroom grab something out of the kitchen put
it together to make a nice content post and i was pretty impressed but she's like do you have any
other mirrors and i was like what she's like oh i have like six mirrors at home for content and i
was like what there's a spot in our garage that's dedicated to like large objects so like frames
mirrors shelves like decorative wall decor that i just a proper influence is that why mirrors
though is that i guess every influencer has to take photo of themselves in a mirror but what
other mirror content is a thing well i do a lot of product like product mirror shots where i have
done and i like interesting mirrors like i have a hexagon guys jess is very big in the mirror space
I just love to look at myself, apparently.
Well, that's a reflection of your personality.
Natasha says, money win.
I'm now over $60,000 in my micro-investing platforms.
I started investing just $1 a day heaps of years back
and now I'm investing over $3,000 per month.
I can't believe it.
$3,000 a month?
Yeah, now we say, you know, start small and increase when you can
and she's at the point where she should probably be chatting with V
and saying, okay, what's next?
Yeah, we probably should have a chat, my friend.
But what is the number one theme of starting from a dollar a day?
I don't know.
Was this going somewhere?
Yeah, there it is.
I knew.
I knew.
I should have known.
Are you done?
No, I've still got heaps more to go.
Oh, no.
Nicole Melissa says, actually, how much does it,
maybe Georgia or Jess might know this,
how much does it normally cost for a legit cast iron casserole dish?
Like a really good proper one.
Oh, they're really expensive.
Right?
Do you want it to get like a Le Creuset is like $400.
What do you mean $400?
I'm pretty sure.
That would be a money win, my friend.
They're like $700 or $800.
What?
Yeah, I'm happy to Google this.
I was going to say, let me check because I feel like I'm being over-salad.
Nicole says that her mum's one was $400.
So we're kind of in the ballpark here.
Okay, okay.
Maybe I've overdone it, but you can get a cast iron round one on Le Creuset,
however you say it, for $550.
Whoa.
So Nicole says that her mum was a real, you know,
she cooks those kind of meals, those big dishes and casseroles all the time.
And it's instilled in her and she's just moved out and she wants to,
you know, that's the cooking she loves to do.
I'm going to her house.
She found one at Kmart for $29.
A cast iron one.
She says it works just as well.
And she's looking forward to a winter of hearty meals and casseroles.
It's the gift that just keeps on giving, says Nicole.
I'm very impressed.
Christina says, I've recently started sewing my own clothes
and it's saved me hundreds and hundreds of dollars.
I work as a wedding performer and, you know, I wear nice outfits often.
I don't want to wear the same ones over and over
because you're always in photos and that kind of stuff.
Jeez, being a girl would suck.
I have one suit to wear at all times.
Even wore it to your wedding.
Here's one I wore that I made myself for less than $40.
Ladies, turn over your pieces.
Is that what this is for?
I love that.
That's so pretty.
Oh, my gosh, that's gorgeous.
I always wish, we were talking about this the other day,
I always wished that I knew how to do this
because I always just see beautiful things that are stupidly extensive.
That you'd like to recreate.
Yeah, what a life skill.
Maybe I'll hit her up to make me a dress.
I'm pretty sure Victoria Define is a little bit of a seamstress.
Is that the word?
Yeah, I know.
It doesn't feel right saying it, does it?
Why doesn't it feel right?
What word does it sound like?
Mistress?
Yeah, maybe that's it.
Yeah, sorry about that.
Would you be able to create that?
I mean, I could give it a red hot crack.
I was pretty crafty in high school.
Did year 11, 12 textiles, guys.
And made your Deb dress, right?
I did make my Deb dress.
Yeah, that's right.
I did make my Deb dress.
I also made a number of different dresses.
I feel like I'm just really crafty.
Like, I'm not so much now because I just don't have time,
but cake decorating, making dresses, outfit, like, I'm all over it.
You need a costume?
Come to me.
I've got you.
Done.
I'll hold you to that.
Thank you.
Second last money win.
Charlotte bought a $5 pair of shorts from the op shop
and there was $70 in the pocket.
Oh, my God.
That is the best money win.
$65 up.
Arguably, that's a great investment.
A really great investment.
But now.
What is that song?
How long did it take you to find that song before?
What?
How long did it take you to find that song?
What song?
I'm done with you.
What is it?
Come on.
Come on.
Natasha Has What I'm Saying is the most disgusting money win
that's ever been posted in our group.
Do you know what this is, Jess?
Are you kind of smiling along there?
Have you seen this in the group?
Maybe.
I have no idea.
Natasha says, money win.
Oh, no.
My boyfriend dared me to eat a piece of popcorn
that he found in the back of the couch.
Oh, my God.
Was it her couch?
She just says from the back of the couch.
It's been there for years.
$20 cash.
Took me 10 seconds.
That's a rate of $7,200 an hour.
Yes, queen.
I approve that today.
Are we for or against that one?
I'm for that.
I love that.
Everyone's for it?
Oh, 100% for it.
That's my favourite money winner this week.
It's on your house.
It's your sheet.
You know how clean it is.
Yeah, you know how messy it is.
And or how dirty it is, and that's at your discretion.
You can't remember when you last ate popcorn.
When did we have popcorn last?
Can't remember.
Now.
Oh, no.
All right.
Well, I think that is definitely enough from us.
I've decided that I'm not a massive fan of the hard seltzer.
Really?
Yeah, the aftertaste.
I don't know if I'm just parched because it's a hot day,
but it is going down really easy.
Nah, I've probably had less than a quarter of it.
I'm not a fan.
Definitely not the biggest fan.
Does everybody else like it?
Six out of ten.
Six out of ten.
Georgia?
Yeah, probably six out of ten.
I drink it on a hot day.
Ryan, John?
What was that crap thing we had two weeks ago?
Midori.
It is better than a Midori splice.
Midori is like a negative five out of ten.
Yeah, exactly.
I give this a 3 out of 10.
Moving on, I think we are done for today,
but just before we head off, we'd like to acknowledge
and pay respects to Australia's Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander peoples,
the traditional custodians of the lands, the waterways
and the skies all across Australia.
We thank you for sharing and for caring on the land
which we are able to learn.
We pay our respects to Elders past and present
and we share our friendship and our kindness.
Now, this is usually George King's bit,
but I know she's not got a script in front of her
and she hasn't memorised it yet,
So, just letting you know that the advice shared on She's On The Money is general in nature and does not consider your individual circumstances, sadly.
She's On The Money exists purely for educational purposes and should not be relied upon to make an investment or a financial decision.
And we do promise I am actually an authorised representative of Australia Pacific Funds Management Proprietary Limited.

And thanks again to Ryan John,
who one, always brings the goods when it comes to money wins
and confessions from the community, but get out.
But also whips this podcast into something snappy
that you can actually enjoy.
See you next week, guys.
You're welcome.
Bye.
Bye.
