She's on the money. She's on the money. Hello and welcome to She's on the Money's Friday Drinks episode, where every single Friday we sit down and have a drink together as a team. We chat about our money wins and confessions from the week we talk about what's happened in the community and we get to hear this week ryan john's six ish favorite money win it's not it's not quite seven but it's it's more than six yeah i asked you before starting recording oh how many money wins you said six ish and i was like you know what that is good enough it is friday i cannot be bothered trying to work out how many it is anymore because you guys live for these so this week was a big week we had a really

good money diary we spoke to a debt-free side hustler who took a zoom pull from her car with the toddler in the back, which I really, really appreciated. And I adored her story of going through a lot of SH1T and coming out the other side. She is really big in the debt-free community on Instagram. And to be honest, has been very pivotal in the She's On The Money community thus far. And then on Wednesday, we spoke about the very sexy topic of setting up investments for your children. And Georgia King and I had a lot of fun at recording this episode. And next week, you're going to hear about a child who is actually making investment decisions for his family he's only seven years old and i cannot wait for that to get what could go wrong nothing could go wrong

and i mean sometimes some of our stories are so great they're almost unrealistic and unrelatable and i feel like investing seven-year-old is gonna be right up there investing seven-year-old is definitely up there and i you know it might take a little bit of the shine off it when you realize how it's working but we are going to leave it there hey clickbait don't sorry sorry i need to learn how to be more clickbaity i'm a financial advisor not a creative don't shoot it down before they've heard it sorry sorry all right sorry it's actually it's not as good as it sounds guys no but i loved it as an episode but this week we are as always joined by our friend brian john jessica richie and georgia hello so let's jump straight into money wins or confessions

or hold on getting a side eye this week we don't just have a drink to share with you guys we have a drink and a snack so we're gonna find out where it comes from and what it is jessica what is it this week we have a really fun one i think it may have gotten a little bit lost in oz post because it was part of a campaign which has now finished but maybe we just got like povo pr maybe maybe we got the leftover send them a few i guess they could use it but i'm really excited about it no it's a really great idea so um obviously tourism took a hit this year with covid or last year as well love that for us um but regional travel for those here in vic the yarra valley wineries beautiful beverages really a whole summer vibe

And so what they've done is put together an assortment of drinks from local wineries and breweries and sent them over to us, which I thought was really great. So I have four different beverages here and we are going to fight to the death, I suppose. Have they not been named for each of us personally? This week they weren't named. So if you hear something you like, fists come out. If you do want to see all of these Instagram, it's Yarra Valley Dandenong Rangers. I believe they have a link to all of these different local biz's. Yes, wait.

Great. So starting off, we have a fresh, fruity, floral, fizzy rosé. That was my nickname in high school. And that comes from Helen and Joey. Next up, we have a Moscato. No, thanks. Which is from Innocent Bystander. Tim's a soft pass.

Really glad you all said that because that one's mine. Also, can we just shout out Innocent Bystander? Whilst I might not like a Moscato, Georgia. We got a bit sourced on the Innocent Bystander once, didn't we, Bea? No, you are. We rate that. Podcasting on the floor, that was good. 11 out of 10.

What about that day? That was the day that we sat on the floor. I remember trying to edit that one. We sat on the floor in my study at my house. It was fun. Down the glass of, a glass of, it was a bottle of red. And we podcast. What did we do?

We didn't even have a, you had a beanie over your microphone. It was very makeshift. It was COVID cheap. Quality content. Moving right along. We have a pear and apple cider from Coldstream Brewery. And then lastly, we have a hard cider or a Louis Huss hard cider from Napoleon Coldstream as well.

Cute. I think I'll go one of the ones from Coldstream because I'm sort of out from that direction in Alf and Penton Hill area. So I feel like that's almost my hood. He sounds like the hard cider kind of guy. Yeah, give him the hard cider. Give him the hard cider. He's a man.

I didn't wink at you. Don't wink at me when you say that. I can't wink. I was going to say, because Ryan Jones is real hard. It's like that is not true. I was actually described as a soft six on Instagram yesterday. A soft six. Right in the face.

Wow. Right. Nice. Nice. Give Georgia the rosé. No, I'll have the cider, girl. No, she wants the rosé. But yeah, long-winded, Melbourne's Yarrow Valley, support local.

If you want to get yourself a beverage, we're very into that. So thanks to the team that sent those over. Yeah, so kind. And it's like getting presents in the mail when companies slide into our DMs. They're like, hey, we have something we think that you love. And we're like, we will love it. Can we talk about it? Even better, these guys literally just sent it to the office.

It was a very nice surprise. Oh, they didn't even slide into our DMs. They just showed up. Surprise PR. I know. All right. Well, that is us gloating. Moving on from gloating, I want to hear your money, wins, or confessions from this week

and this week. Very classy start. We are going to start with Georgia. Georgia, what are you bringing to the table this week? I feel like we often start with me. We do. But today I'm not mad about it because it actually ties into the whole supporting regional off the back of the horror

that was last year and kind of continues to be this year. So this weekend I'm going to Daylesford. Fancy. And lots of people probably know about the $200 travel voucher that they're doing. So I picked up one of those. Oh, sweet. Yeah.

So do you have to apply for that or you buy it and then you get a refund or how does it actually work? You buy your accommodation as you would normally and then the government kind of rebates it later on. And did you go to one of the stock kind of traditional B&Bs? Have you got an Airbnb or what's the... We're going to a little hotel. Yeah, it's a little bit fancy.

Fancy, a little date weekend. Yeah, and you'd feel like you're a hero because you're putting money back into that economy and doing what you can. I like that that's what hero status means to you. Exactly right. It's good, isn't it? Yeah, but it's beautiful though.

Yeah, any recommendations? I do, I do. Actually, I went to the convent gardens on the weekend with Steph and we had a little grazing table and a couple of Proseccos outside, which was delightful. But I would recommend booking, actually, because that leads in and I'm going to just take the limelight now to my money win slash loss. And that actually also involves Dalesford. Steph and I, Steph being my best friend, went up to Dalesford for a day. It was a day trip. Definitely not overnight.

We're not bougie. and we got there had lunch thought we'd go for a couple of cocktails at some of the fancier restaurants around town um turns out we couldn't get in because covid and so that's my money win i didn't spend any money when i went on a day trip to dalesford i just spent it on one glass of prosecco some hot chips and a scone that made my tummy hurt so bad it was not worth it so yeah that's my story and my money win slash loss like drove all the way there had a good day but didn't spend heaps of money i've noticed in the group there has been a lot of this is sort of a win but a loss and a loss and a win with that kind of thing like something fell through that

i was planning on spending heaps on and like is that a win look i'm really grateful that my community grabs its straws in much the same way i do yeah yeah yeah have you got a money win or confession for us this week i've got a win and it's it's not a traditional win but i feel like it's a win nonetheless i lost my wedding ring what yeah for about you said that very casually well it's casual now it was serious because money win i don't have to buy another one i found it and when i say i found it i actually couldn't find my wallet which you guys know is very common occurrence for me i just leave stuff everywhere jess is also the same i found it multiple times in my car and called her and been like hey i have your wallet and she's just like do you and i'm

it's been there for three days so i was missing my wedding ring for about six weeks and then on the weekend i lost my wallet and bridget's like i bet if i go into the car i'll find it right away and i was like we'll just do it then so she goes into the car and comes back 30 seconds later with my wallet and my wedding ring and says you're an idiot so that saved me buying another one but quickly let's go around the room how much do you think i paid for my wedding ring this is a trick question for me because i know so let's ask the other people in the room i don't even know what the average would be so i'm gonna say like 50 bucks because i feel like the story is that it's really cheap i mean yeah is that too cheap you see where i'm going with it how much do people

spend on wedding rings i used to work at a jewelry store and men's obviously significantly cheaper like yours is just a band right what do you mean just a band like it's his wedding band a beautiful but like you don't have a stone in it do you like no a plain band yeah general like anywhere from like $250 to $700 or $800, which I know is a broad range. I'm going to take a stab and say like $400. Yeah, so I went shopping at Lord Coconut with a friend. He got his for $900. Another friend got his for $1,100, but mine.

Lord Coconut? Well done, Georgia King, $50. What? Yeah. What a win. That's amazing. I just got it off Etsy. I like that.

It's fine. And we spent enough on Bridget's, so I thought I'll just. Take one for the team. I like that. Pull back here. I like that. And Bridget's is beautiful. You guys have great taste.

It wasn't your fault. Huge amounts of traffic on the freeway. It wasn't her fault because she always comes up with a really good excuse. Yeah. But what do we say in the team? An excuse is just that. An excuse. you've said that to me i know

it's not my rules i've never heard that from victoria no i'm always like you do you boo boo anyway because i am prone to losing my wallet i uh do not keep money in the account attached to my card because i'm like if i lose it potentially problematic that's pretty bad card in your wallet does that have money on it yeah so anyone who might steal my wallet no none don't try um no so i don't keep money in that account and then today i was late to get into the car park and they charge you through the nose if you don't come in within the hour that you're and so i went in tap my card all is well when i went to tap out on my way over here uh it wouldn't process it wanted to charge me an extra 30 bucks on top of the 20 bucks i'd

already paid when i booked money loss potentially but it didn't go through because there's no money in that account I just hit the little dial and was like hey like I pre-booked I can't get out I'm not sure what's going on and they're like oh we're so sorry lifted the boom gate and out I went I mean I spent less time in their car park surely it should be cheaper not more expensive yeah that's true that's a very very valid point yeah I like it happy with that I'm really impressed but what i want to hear next is ryan's six ish money wins that are his favorite from our community this week we're gonna have ryan's six ish money wins in a hot second all right ryan let's jump straight into this i want to hear your best money wins or confessions

from our community this week and you before getting into them are going to tell me whether So they're going to be in ascending or descending order. Do you mean like, is the best one going to be last? Yeah, is the best one going to be last or first? I don't think it's the best money win, but it's my favourite money win. I'll save that for last. Okay, cool. Save that for last.

Actually, quick question. Obviously, iced coffees are awesome in summer. Iced coffees, not in summer though. Yes or no? Iced coffee all the time. Okay, even in winter? Yeah, I'd love iced coffee. Yeah, even in winter.

Jess? I don't drink coffee. Please don't stone me. Okay. Stone her. Stone me. What do you drink? Which?

Pepsi. So gross. So, so gross. She also drinks hot chocolate. So Jade Courtney says, I am obsessed with iced coffees. And in the last few weeks, I've been traveling a lot and I was moving house. And I spent about $60 on iced coffees in just a week or two. That's a lot of money.

Yeah. It's a lot of milk as well. She said, I now have a coffee machine at home and I bought the $5 caramel syrup so now I can make the best iced coffees myself. Oh, money winning. And we've had a lot of coffee-related wins in the last few weeks, but here I don't think we've heard this yet.

I also reuse all my coffee grounds, so I make lip scrubs, body scrubs, hand wash and more. I'll never need to buy any sort of scrub again because I'm all scrubbed up. I love that. That's impressive. But do you know how easy it is to do? You just take the grounds from your coffee

and mix it with like honey or some even water if you really want to be a bit basic or coconut oil is the very top contender. And then if you add some essential oils, it'll be smelly and it will literally be like Frank Body at home. Delicious. And you can like custom make your own scents. Obviously, coffee is going to be the base.

Victoria Devine, can I just say, that's some very valuable information, but it also did downplay the skill involved of our money. No, it's not. Like in Super Savvy, it's also... Jade did this. Oh, it's pretty easy. Anyone can do it.

to be honest. Don't help me! Why does everybody make me sound like a nasty pasty on this team? Petunia. Well, stop using terms like nasty pasty. Petunia says, Money win. I've been looking to get an eyebrow micro blader this year.

Micro blading, have you heard of that? Like she's going to do it herself or she's going to get it done? No, she wants to get it done, she said. It's very expensive, but I was going to bite the bullet as it saves time in the morning. What is a micro bullet? What am I explaining here? So what you're explaining is microblading tattooing,

which if you look at my face, you'll see two big tattoos on my face that you probably didn't know were tattoos. Are they tattoos? Are they tattoos? My eyebrows are indeed fake. That makes a lot of sense now, especially the photos I saw of you when you were younger

with those eyebrows when you were 16. Wow, the 16-year-old Victoria Devine eyebrows are horrendous. Can we please put that on Instagram? Of course you can. Really? I'm not ashamed of who I used to be. That makes one of us. She made me who I am today,

and that is a girl with good eyebrows because I learnt a lot. So apparently this microblading, and V, I'm not asking you to divulge. No, I'm happy to divulge. We talk about money on this podcast. Petunia says you can pay $650 for this, if not more. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I have. And do you want to know this or is this too pervy?

Like, is this just going to throw me under a bus? I once spent $1,200 on an eyebrow tattoo. Oh, my God. Yeah, and it wasn't even that good. It was like, literally, it was from, quote, the best person in melbourne um and i had to have them fixed wow they get a refund 1200 bucks i didn't i didn't even bother like you just avoid that awkward conversation i didn't want to have that conversation but they weren't good their color was off and it turns out microblading is

not that good for your skin because it creates really bad scar tissue so it might look really good for the first 12 months but after that like they they fade and you end up with scars on your face so you should actually look at normal tattooing but that's just a side note again not to attack our people sharing wins. Just to shut it down. No, no, no, but like definitely think about something else. Petunia says the place I wanted to go to

said they needed brow models and instead of paying the $650, she got it done for $90. Oh my gosh, that's actually a money win. Huge money win. And then here's the ish-est one. Ish-est. Bianca Lee said,

oh my God, I did that too. It was supposed to be $750, but I got it done for $150. Every couple of months, they want to try a new technique or a new machine, so you can come in and get it done cheap. Hey, that's a money win.

That stuff can be expensive. And as I said before, $1,200 for a set of brows. Someone also shared a post this week in a similar vein about beauty schools and how all of their students are always needing to test like hairstyling or massage or like pretty much any treatment you can think of. I think maybe I saw that as well because someone said they went to a hairdresser

that they were, you know, the final stage of their apprenticeship and it's a lot cheaper. So if money's a bit tight or if you just want to save some cash, hit up your local beauty school. I don't know why you wouldn't because they're supervised by professionals. It's not just some random... Yeah, they're not just taking a stab.

It's like, welcome to day one. Here's some scissors. Figure it out for yourself, kids. Yeah, no, it's not like that at all. Amanda Chan says, I cleared $200 pure profit in February alone from eBay flipping. Epic.

It's never going to be my true replacement of my full-time income, but it's a nice little hobby that I actually enjoy doing and it gives me a little bit of extra money so I can indulge in my op shopping habit. How good. $200.

I actually love the idea that you can have a hobby or something that you enjoy that pays for itself, even if it's not making profit. If you go, hey, I like buying new clothes, so I make a bit of money from the clothes, then I can spend that on more clothes. It's like you've got this hobby that just doesn't cost you a cent. Very self-sufficient.

Awesome. And if you make less than, I think it's $4,500, you don't have to pay tax on it if it is a hobby. Can you explain what is and is not a hobby? Because I reckon I got a bit generous with what could be a hobby a few years back. Yeah, okay. Well, I can tell you right now, Uber driving, not a hobby, an actual income.

That was the actual one I tried to do. Hello to everyone. I drove home in Canberra for those three weekends. I drove Uber. Yeah, not a hobby. Yeah, but sorry to attack you there. Seems to be Victoria attacking everybody on the pod today. But yeah, it's a legit hobby.

Like if it's just you're doing it for fun, you're not doing it for an income and you're making 200 bucks a month, I would argue that you should be talking to your accountant about classifying that one as a hobby. Also, when I was an Uber driver, I used to go to the army barracks in Canberra and there would be like a lady that was like leaving one of the guy's room and I would drive her back to the residence at University of Canberra and then I would probably pick up a guy there and take him back to the army barracks and he'd just go back and forth. That's nice.

I'm sure that they are like, oh yeah, that definitely happens. Not. Herbie Q, what was your Uber rating? Did you have five stars? Oh, I actually don't know. I only did it for a few weekends because of this and I tried to do a radio segment and it didn't really work

and then I ended up just having one night stands in the back of my car. They were the people I was driving home. They were the people I was driving home. They were having

the one night stands. How do you know they weren't in committed relationships with people in the army barracks? That is very judgmental of you. Who gets an Uber home from 2am from their partner's house?

They had a fight. I don't know. I feel like there's no room on those army barrack bunks. So just a quick visit. How do you know there are bunks in the army barracks? Just a guess. Let's just push on.

Hey, Melina Jones says, I bought a brand new, literally tagged, still on it, Seed Heritage jumpsuit from the op shop. Any guesses what they're normally worth? Oh, $120? Because Seed's like pretty nice. Seed's nice. Seed's lovely.

I'd go like $160. I was going to say like $189. Melina said she looked it up and it was $170 brand new. I win that one, friend. Oh, hold on, hold on. I reckon I was closer than you. You're closer, you're closer. Sorry, I tried to steal that.

Don't take my win from me. She got it for $40 with the tag still on for an op shop. That's a very good money win. That's so good. All right. Nia says, I called my bank and got my interest rate reduced by 0.89%. That's a pretty big decrease. That is.

And it's now got a two in front of it, which is very nice. That's what we want. I'm looking at a saving of at least $2,500 as a result. Wow. That is massive. Well done. I love that. And now, oh, actually.

And it's not that hard to pick up your phone and ask for a lower rate. We've had heaps of people messaging us saying they've used the little template we put together. Oh, and they're loving it. Yeah, so heaps of people are getting discounts. So honestly, try it. Worst they can say is no. Is there a way that we can track how much the She's On The Money community saves saves from just asking for

a discount on stuff? How cool would that be? There's really not, but it's a rhetorical question. Maybe we'll put it in our next research survey thing. How much did you save because of Shave On The Money? You know what, we'd probably do, we'd ask something similar, right? I haven't ever asked because of us or something.

I might have said how much you've saved in the last 12 months and that would be taking major liberties if I was like, haha, because of us. All of that would happen. Speaking of liberties, did you know newspapers for every one newspaper they sell, they count that as four people reading it. Why?

Because it sounds like more people are buying newspapers, so when they sell to advertisers, they can actually jack the numbers by four. What? So speaking of taking liberties, hello to our friends at the Herald Sun. I'm going to be in the Herald Sun really soon. Well, whatever they tell you, divide that by four.

Right, now it's the scary music because we're about to announce the money win of the week. oh is it a scary money win this is supposed to be suspense i'm trying eddie mcguire tensions rising is it working i can yeah yeah riley sure you want to lock in b yeah we were talking about this earlier riley elliott money win that's actually freaking me out a little bit i went out for lunch and drinks with some girlfriends on the weekend we ordered a bottle of prosecco to share fun the one we wanted to order wasn't available so they said oh sorry we can't actually give you that the more expensive one we still have in stock but because that's our fault

we're going to give you the most expensive one at the price of the cheaper prosecco Money in the wind. Champagne showers. Join us for coffee. That's reminding me of you, Tim. This is what drinking was doing the other weekend at the club. I was. You get a shot.
