And this episode of She's on the money, as you guys probably have anticipated, given the title of the episode is our friday drinks episode where we get to say cheers to our entire community so this week on she's on the money we did a deep dive all about salary packaging with the one and only georgia king we talked about tax benefits super benefits and all of the things to be wary of and on monday we had an incredible guest one of our first real life

money diarists that wasn't anonymous and that was dara who is also known as dj tiger lily Can I just add that the money diarists are, in fact, real life? All right. Yeah, yeah. Good call. But, like, our money diarists are usually anonymous, and this was one of our first non-anonymous money diarists, which I think was really brave. And she came into the studio, and she was honestly one of the most articulate women I have ever met. Such a boss.

Oh, my gosh. Such a boss. Honestly beautiful. Could not stop staring at her. But she talked about how she saved more than $20,000 on a car, how she personally would never buy a car brand new. She talked about all of her multiple income streams that she generates from social media and also from being a DJ and what she's done during COVID. And she talked about being taken seriously as a businesswoman, which obviously was something that I was like, yes, this so resonates with me. But moving on, Friday Drinks episode this week.

jess how are we gonna pick a hundred of these uh easily because we enjoyed the process so much i felt like oprah i was like you get fifty dollars you get fifty dollars you get fifty we like mini oprah's but like definitely not nearly as cool and not nearly as generous but we're trying right it's all about the thought that counts you start somewhere does it yeah we're all starting somewhere i love it i love it one of my favorite ones was actually really timely because obviously easter has just happened and they said that they're planning to buy all the easter chocolate at 50 off which obviously a money win person after my own heart yeah exactly and what did we do this week jess i don't know what you want to say we bought discount easter

chocolate did we not yes yes yes um i don't know why that didn't come to mind because you eat so much sugar it's not funny um i stopped the office this week uh we've said half price easter chocolate that money win wasn't me but i'm on the same wavelength as you we are which is why we pitched that as one of the winners so if that was yours because banks have very high levels of privacy and security which is obvious but they couldn't give us your names but we just have your uh your lists i've decided your name was stan chocolate person thank you stan thank you stan for coming along and i said it was hard to pick but i actually one of them really resonated with me because um we actually live in my wife's grandparents house grandpa built the house

and we've got all these old lemon trees and kumquats and grapefruits and all sorts of things and someone wrote in saying that they'd say they're never going to buy a lemon again because they bought a house and the house has a lemon tree. I was like, that's cool, but how's my $50 going to help you never buy a lemon again? So they bought a house instead.

Yeah, okay, all right, I love that. And they can buy like a fancy lemon juicer or something. Well, they're saying that they're actually freezing the lemon juice because they can't get through that many lemons, there's so many, so that's very clever. That's so smart. Wait, wait, wait, what do you do with the frozen lemon juice though? You then defrost it.

Oh, I guess you just, like, leave it out. Okay, sorry, I overthought it. You're like, what do they do with frozen cubes of lemon juice? I'm going to go on the record and say that's one of the great first world problems, having too many lemons. They are so expensive. I use them all the time. So boo-hoo to her.

I went to my mum's on the weekend and I came home with an entire shopping bag of lemons. So if you guys want some, I'll bring some into the office. Well, as a bonus, the lemon rinds are used as Easter treats. Really? I don't know. Do you, like, bake it into, like, a little lemon cake or something maybe? Well, that's what our community member said.

That's what they did. They made candied lemon rinds. Oh, that's big. Can you imagine? How good would that be? That's like a triple money win in one. That's such a good one. I love that.

I'm not that creative. Okay, I'm sorry. It also stresses me out that there's never any consistency in the number. Like one week at seven, one week at six. This week he's decided it's ten. What if it just becomes the best money wins of the week?

Okay, that seems reasonable. That makes my heart very happy. All right. Taylor says, mine's a loss and a win. Her straightener passed away. Her hair straightener. Oh, they're expensive. Rest in peace.

So she went to purchase a new one. The woman at the shop gave her a $30 discount and free shampoo and conditioner because they both have curly hair and she felt her pain. That's actually really cute. That's sweet. All right. Jackie says, money win. I was going to purchase a new chest of drawers.

They can be really expensive as well. I don't know if you've shopped for those, but no, no one, anyone bought them? Am I just at the stage of my life where I'm buying chests of drawers and I'm really sad and like... No, no, no. They can actually be so spino if you don't shop at Ikea. I was going to say mine came from Ikea. I still have an Ikea one.

Definitely not spino. We are winners. I decided to wait 24 hours before making a purchase, then realized I just needed to tighten a few screws and I could keep using the one I already had. Okay. $350 saved. I love that, but I also question why it took you that long

to work out that you need to tighten the screws. Well, we're not here to judge Jackie. We're just trying to say $350 saved. All right. Now, Jess loves this one sick because I saw you commenting in the group. I love, it's like my favorite part of Money Wins Thread is when you guys put them and I just go through and look at them all and literally respond.

It's so much fun. It actually makes me so happy when I see you guys like on a Saturday or Sunday getting involved. And I'm like, you don't have to do that. And you're like, oh yeah, but like it was really cool. And I just love that you're so engaged in the community. Savon says my daughter peer pressured me into buying some quails.

I love this one. This one is so good. What has that got to do with anything? Keep waiting, keep waiting. Okay, okay. We spent $100 on a massive cage for them, but the cage is too big. so I guess we need to buy more quails now.

But I guess we'll have more quail eggs coming soon so I guess that will be a win. I'm counting that as a win. Quail win. Absolutely. Why do you always like the left field ones so much? The weird ones just really do it for me. What really made this weird for me

is that she was peer pressured by her own daughter. To buy some quails. But is peer pressure, is that something you can get from a child? We don't have kids, but Dom, I feel like you have experience here. Can you be peer pressured by a minor? 100%. Especially when they're 12-year-old girls.

Yeah, okay, okay. And we don't have context on age, but could you be peer pressured into buying quails? Probably not quails, but I was thinking they could eat the quails too. Oh, Dom. Okay, Dom. After providing such a generous spread of gluten-free and vegan food, Would you suggest on my podcast that we're going to eat the quails? Okay.

Actually, all my life I had a pet duck. So when I was a kid, I had a pet duck, Daniel. What was it? Daniel the Duck. And he saved our house from a burglar. What? Yeah, it's a real true story. Now I want to hear the story.

And he was on the front page of the Herald Sun. What? Daniel, you legend. So he used to like peck people's toes and the burglar jumped over the fence and had no shoes. And Daniel like went straight for him. And so my mum actually got a carving knife and held the burglar at ransom while the police came. And then the police came and they took the burglar back outside

so that he could show where he was breaking in or whatever and the duck went for his toes again. And so the policeman tipped off a journo and then the journo came out, took photos of me and the duck and everything and ended up on the front page of the Herald Sun. Can we dig that up? Where can we find that? My mum has it.

Oh my gosh, yes. Also, why is a character in Up not a duck called Daniel? Yeah, it should be. But I'll tell you what happened. He can be in charge of security. It's a goer, it's a natural goer But when I grew up, Daniel, actually I gave him to a friend when I moved overseas He did eventually pass away

So we got a new duck and we went out to Coldstream, a little town near Lillydale Gorgeous And we got one day old duckling and we called her Daphne and she's gorgeous Nice But really sad, foxes attacked and so she was probably about six years old and then we lost her to foxes But six sounds good She was gorgeous How long did Duck sleep?

Oh, no, my Daniel was 16 when I gave him my... 16-year-old Duck? Yeah. So did the robber end up going to jail? I don't think so. Okay. Because I was just imagining in jail how much street cred you would not have. Be like, oh, how'd you get caught?

A duck? A duck. And just saw it, it pecked my toes and I was all over. A duck and a small woman with a knife. All right. Charlotte Jane said, I got flights. Now, this is a controversial one and I don't know if it's true. I've heard it is, but I'm not sure.

I got flights from Melbourne to Adelaide for $100 return, which is great. Yeah, money win. The reason it was so cheap is because I did it with my phone and not on my laptop. What? Is that a real thing? How does that work?

Is it potentially cookies? Well, that's why it's like obviously how it's coming through to the website can dictate what price and stuff are. But Dom, I don't know, you probably know more tech stuff than us. Is that possible? It's possible. It's not plausible. Right.

I don't think it happens. So is this one of these like wives tales? No, look, it's possible. Like, you know, as you're saying, it's a new device. And so maybe they're offering a special deal to certain locations or certain devices or whatever. That's possible. It's more likely they had some sort of discount code or they were logged into some service or something. And they just didn't owe it.

Or like in-app purchases, right? Like I know with Sephora, for example, which you probably have absolutely no experience in, Dom. but they always say they'll give you an extra discount if you book through the app because they want you to download the app and then like function on it which is interesting. That's also why I always go incognito

when I need to book flights or hotels because I'm scared of my cookies. Yeah. I'm scared of the cookies. It might be a real thing. That's what I'm saying. They might have been using a particular app or they might have had some discount code or something

but yeah. Logical. Sounds a bit sus. We're questioning that money win. Yep. Alright, Naomi Holland says money win. Where's the music? Thank you.

I'm glad he listens to you, not me. It's what having power feels like. When have I ever not listened to you? Right, Ben, when I said, where'd the music go? And you did nothing. Oh, hold on. When she called you, you didn't answer. And 0.2 seconds later, I called and you answered.

I was on another call. Hey, Naomi Holland says, money win. We refinanced our home loan with a different bank. Interest rate has dropped from 3.9 to 1.94. Fixed for four years. Also got $4,000 cash for moving back. That's huge. Okay, but what's she doing with the cash?

Do you actually get it in cash or does it go against your loan or depends on the deal? Depends on the deal and what it is because some of them have the caveat that it comes on a Visa gift card. Oh, that's not. That's not on. Just keep it, yeah. Yeah, that's not on.

Bree says KFC had free delivery all Easter weekend, so I saved on the delivery fee. Guess that's a money win. Well done. this is from the kfc ads right my money yeah this is definitely okay i just wanted to know i've picked the right good one i'm glad that the kfc branding really attracted you and was remembered by you hey they saw me they know their audience all right money win yesterday this is adelaide schmadelaide i'm gonna go on down the limb and say that's probably not her real name but that's

her name on facebook adelaide schmadelaid says yesterday i officially paid off my personal debt which got to 19 000 it's now all paid off and all my money is now my own yes that is such a good feeling as someone who also has had personal debt there is no better feeling 19 grand that would feel nice um inez says i just changed our gas and electricity i looked at the government website because it's not biased and doesn't have you know paid rankings they have been listening to the shoes on the money community with that tip we saved six hundred dollars a year six hundred dollars yeah money win uh kerry howard says bought a house last week that's a win well done that's pretty epic and people underestimate how hard buying a house is

nowadays the prices in the last like four weeks have like doubled in melbourne this will be the second podcast today i have given this example but a house got auctioned off or a townhouse across the road from me went for four hundred thousand dollars over reserve that's like a whole nother house that's a whole nother house you could have purchased literally i'm actually buying back the house that we originally have first house that we bought the people are moving out and we were just you know we were just there one time and just got chatting to them and they're like they're going to put it on the market and sell it and i'm like i want to buy it back How do you not have that?

It was our first house. Oh, how cool. And we designed, or we demolished what was there. We didn't actually demolish. It got chopped up and put on a truck and taken to Phillip Island like someone else still lives in the house. But we built a new house. That is so cool.

And we built a new house on there, and we designed it ourselves. And now you get it back. Well, maybe. They haven't accepted our offer. But they're considering your offer. Yeah, it's awesome. How exciting is that? I went to an inspection the other week,

and the house was between $850 and $950. and then at auction it went for $1.45 million. How'd you find out about that? That was a different one to the one you sent me. Oh my gosh, that was another one that went that far over? Yeah, the one I sent you that I liked, that was out of our range, but that was about a million and went for a million and a half.

1.6. Yeah. Was that in the city, like in the CBD? That was in Coburg. In Coburg, that one? In Coburg. Those price ranges are created based on historical sales. So if we're in a boom now after a period of a lull,

it's always going to go over because all of those historical sales in that low period. But they know that now. They know that, but, like, legally in real estate, you're only required to provide comparable sales within, like, a certain timeframe. It's like, I think it's, like, the last six months. We called bullshit on one of the real estate agents

and they kind of gave us a bullshit answer back. Like, just completely, we're like, the one next door is the same, sold for this two weeks ago. And they're like, well, according to historical data, I'm like, mate, the house next door is the same and it's sold for, like, more than you're asking. So, like, if they've made the SOI prior to, like, that statement of information which is a document that provides comparable sales yeah um like let's say i put my

house up for sale and i made the soi four weeks ago and that house sold last week like you don't have to update that soi or at least i should preface that with that was when i worked in real estate many many years ago that's quite similar yeah and that's the kind of spiel they game far out like i don't like that chloe says this is the last one i invest in restaurant brands via a parent company that covers a whole bunch of fast food outlets in new zealand and i just receive my annual free shareholder meal voucher so all the shareholders get a free meal and uh money win if ever i heard one any guesses what the voucher was for mcdonald's yeah that's what i was gonna say i'll give you a clue kfc well done chloe

imagine becoming a shareholder and all you got was the voucher to kfc i want my dividends that's what's happened to chloe all my capital grow all right now we are back and we are definitely running i want to hear our team's personal money wins and confessions from the week who are we going to start with this week we're just going to throw dom oh dom's put his hand oh dom look at you go i wasn't going to throw you in the deep end but anytime nobody wants to go first what is it my money win i knew it would be a win because no one puts their hand up when they've got a confession.

No, no, no. It's a win and a confession. Oh, okay, all right. Yeah, and it's quite odd. So we were running a, we were in Australia's first gamified TikTok thing. I played that. It was very fun.

Yeah, that was awesome. It was 23 million views. What? 23 million, yeah. And guess who won? TikTok is wild. Guess who won the $1,000? Was it you?

Completely random draw by a legal partner that we have that does it all legit and everything. Guess who won? Was it actually? Me. I literally won it. And, of course, I'm disqualified. Yeah.

So I'm, like, partying. And then they say, no, you can't win it. You can't win your own company's prize, Dom. $1,000. So it went back into the drawer. They're drawing it right now, tonight. That is a money win. But then I was very disappointed when they told me I couldn't have it.

Oh. Can they still play the game? Is the game still up on TikTok? Yes, I believe it is. Can we play that later? I just don't think you win the money, but you can still play the game. Oh, well, we don't want to play the game now. Easy money challenge.

We don't want to play your game. And do you know what you do? What? Oh, you eat them, don't you? You eat the money. Like the money falls out of the sky and you literally eat it. Do you know what I did? I was with my four-year-old daughter and she has an art table.

She was making things. And so she wanted to make little puppet puppets. So little puppets of me. And so I got them. And then when I couldn't get all the coins, these little puppets just like came in the side. You cheated. That's how you won.

That's not fair. That's cheating. You should have been disqualified not because you're the co-founder, because you cheated. Yeah, but my four-year-old daughter made them. They were gorgeous. oh okay so cheating is okay when it's done by a minor they can also bribe you um victoria divine on tiktok we've got some really fun ones with some little up insider tips

off the back of that and check out the game it's super fun it is i've been having a lot of fun on tiktok recently but it's not my turn to talk jessica you spoke up first i have a money loss relevant money loss so this week we are recording a little earlier than usual it is wednesday so So if you've been following along, we've been doing a day in our life on stories. So you may have seen I walked down the hill to get us some drinks and some snacks a little earlier. Went through 7-Eleven. I got some Panadol. You did?

Two packets of Pringles and a box of donuts. Take a guess at how much that cost me. Oh, no. It cost you? Well, guess how much it cost me on the sheet on the money card. Okay, so we're playing a game of guess how much it cost Victoria. Yeah. $47.

Close. Really? I feel like 7-Eleven in town can be spenny, right? Well, I went to the Richmond one. Firstly, very bougie. There's about 50 in Richmond. There's so many in Richmond. The one in particular that I entered, very bougie.

Why was it bougie? It was the massive one, right? Yeah, it was big. Like the door was ordered. Like it wasn't like a sliding door. It was like an opening door. It just, it was. Are you ready to have your mind blown?

Guys, this is going to make a lot of sense when you learn that Jess is from the west side. The coffee machine. there's a coffee machine in that one that has soy milk in a machine in a 7-eleven all right well that says richmond if ever i heard it those four items ran us 37.50 a tub of pringles was seven dollars how much was the norepine i like 12 bucks i think what yeah it was only a little pack and they were only the small print like my mind was just playing so that's my money loss oh gosh awful georgia just off what you got my friend um i have a money win to bring us back up so it's melbourne comedy festival at the moment guys uh which is fantastic great to be supporting the

artists after such a hard year last year um so that's what i did because i'm a hero last week i went to see nate valvo yeah um and he was phenomenal so great tickets were pretty cheap anyway but i was like treat yourself anyway went to the ticket booth and he was like m'lady it's twenty dollars a ticket ten dollars off because it's mercedes night or something i was like i don't know what you're talking about so great i got like twenty dollars off did he actually say m'lady probably not that's just something georgia would say can we all get bracelets that just so wwgd so it's like what would georgia do because it's always left field it's always different it's thinking creatively she keeps it fun and fresh what can we say that's me who's next it's

ryan i had a because i said it's ryan before he could say victoria i had what i thought was going to be a loss that became a win and i think i talked about it with you guys earlier i've moved into a new house this week and the couch would not fit through the front door and i was sitting there thinking i'm gonna have to buy a new couch i'm gonna have to probably pay someone to get the old couch because it's just sitting at the front i was having this you know money loss in my mind until i realized that if i got into the townhouse behind us and took my couch through their front door out their back door i could throw it over the back fence money win it worked no new couch money savings got to keep my old couch the dog bj is happy because that's where he's like that's a

major ageness issue if you're at your own house you're not at your place of work i thought you're to say you got a bigger door well we sort of do now sorry steph um also actually just money win i'm actually moved into victoria's friend's house yeah my best friend's house which is really strange seeing you instagram story from your new house me being like that is not where the kettle goes brian well it does now mate and can i tell you that i would have we would have bought our house but back to the previous conversation turns out prices have gone up half a million in a month it's crazy so it might be there for a while while we save it's a cute house though it's very nice v what do you got okay so i've got a money win a money confession and then another money confession

for you so this week or in the last week it's been raining it's getting wintry i'm now crazy dog owner and i bought on the internet uh some dog rain jackets because that's what other people do with their time it's very normal was it on this podcast last week we were discussing the gumboots you got for the dog yeah and the gumboots didn't work out so now i've got her the little kind of like paddington bear like raincoat very very cute but the one i wanted because i googled it and obviously found the cutest one that had like this navy and white interior with a strap very fancy very fashion very lucy and it was like 200 i'm not paying 200 for a dog jacket so i googled it yeah i didn't i didn't i wouldn't do that i'm like crazy but not that crazy so i got on aliexpress

typed in yellow dog jacket same thing pops up eleven dollars bought it bought two because wasn't sure about the size now i have a free one so if you've got a dog smaller than lucy please let me know it might be a money win for you as well and i'll send you a dog jacket would you say eleven dollars to 200 the product looks pretty similar it's identical far out it is perfect it And it came because on AliExpress, obviously, sometimes it could be a little bit dodgy, but you can look through the photo reviews and it had like three hundred five star reviews and all these photos of other people's dogs in these jackets. And I was like, I'll take the risk. Those dogs look cute. Everyone who follows our Instagram will know the answer for the she's on the money workplace.

But Dom, I want to know about the UpBank workplace. Is it a dog friendly place? If a dog rocked up, would that be cool? Is it a distraction? and what is your company policy on rain jackets on animals? Completely awesome, both. So we have a few different dogs that have come to the office. We don't have a permanent dog in the office,

but people bring their own dog in. I don't think any of them have rain jackets, but we could organise that. They're not real dogs. We could organise that, yeah. Right, and so how many dogs at any one time in the workplace? Usually only one. Okay, right.

Last time I was at your office, there was a baby, there was some dolls and i played mario kart so i just feel like you'd be all right with dogs yeah absolutely fine and it's usually a uh a little sausage dog that comes in i forgot its name but it's gorgeous yeah and that's why we love up and my money confession guys obviously buying sorry the buying the dog jackets is not a confession because i saved a lot of money on something that i'd put 24 hours between me and my spending and it was in line with my values and i don't think anyone at this table should be questioning my values and what i spend my money on if i've got conviction but my money
