She's on the money.
Hello and welcome to the She's on the money radio show podcast.
The podcast for millennials who want financial freedom.
I was going to say, I'm not Victoria.
That's Victoria.
No, but it's now the radio show.

My name is Trav, by the way.
Hi, Trav.
Nice to meet you.
You too.
Thanks for coming.
No, thank you for having me.
You're going to hear a little bit more of my voice,
so I'm sorry about that, Australia.
Sorry not sorry.
Speaking of sorry, we've also got Mitch.
Oh, that can't be my tie-in.
Speaking of sorry, here's the moment.
we're sorry that he's here because our banter's electric,
but boom, boom, here comes Bowser the dinosaur.
Like, give me a break.
Bowser's cute.
Did you just make a Mario reference, mate?
What is going on?
I mean, is that a shirt?
Yeah, I love it.

is going to tell us what he has bought off Facebook Marketplace.
And it's weird.
I know.
And I mean, you're not getting out of this that easy, young Divine.
Yeah, but do you know what I am getting out of easy?
What?
The judgment of the podcast listeners because they already know this.
I know, true.
I've already shared it on the podcast before and I have reused it for the radio content.
If any of you call me out, I will personally come for you.
Before we start, though, how did you think the first show went, Victoria?
Because this is the start of a beautiful friendship and a long, long show.
You know, in our 20th year, we'll go, God, remember when we first started and we spoke about the theremin?
Well, you've been in radio for a very long time, and I believe you got your start in radio as a chicken.
Yeah, and you spring that on me in the very first segment of the show.
Well done.
You're welcome.
I'll tell you the story.
It's a 10-minute story.
I hope you see it.
I was the Kyle and Jackie O
cash cock in Sydney
and I used to run around the streets
and actually oh my god this is the perfect money tie in
because I had a thousand dollars
strapped to me and I was dressed as a rooster
and I would run down the street
and I'd be live on Kyle and Jackie O
I'm on Birmingham Road
and then whoever
How on earth
no how is that legal
It's not and I've been in radio 10 years
and I love it and I love my job
I was about to say that one can't be legal
Two cannot be insured.
Like, imagine calling VCAT and being like, hey, so I got injured at work.
I know.
Imagine calling Fair Work and going, hi, I've just got to make a complaint.
Yeah, what happened?
I was in a chicken suit.
I was dressed as a chicken.
That is actually how I got my start.
But, yeah, people would grab me and take the cash and...
So, are you saying that I can take cash off you if I see it on you?
Only if you tackle me to the ground.
You've got to really get me dirty.
I'm 5'1".
That is not happening.
I'm 6'3".
People pay for that stuff.
That's, you know...
They pay to be tall.
No, they pay to watch that stuff go down, you know.
I have no intention of ever getting radio show photos with you
if you're 6'3 and I'm 5'1.
I'm going to look like a cartoon.
You know what we have to do?
You could stand on a box or we'd have to do that awkward,
like you putting your hand on my shoulder, you know,
like the lean on me.
Yeah, or you know how you like put both of your hands on your knees
and like lean forward in a photo?
It's just really complimentary.
I could put you on my shoulder.
You could just sit on my shoulder like a little elf on the shelf.
Money godmother
I love it
I love it
Alright
Let's move on
How about we show them
What happened on the show
Let's do that
Our very first
She's on the money radio show
Coming up straight after this
Money, money, money
She's on the money radio show
Money, money, money
With Victoria Devine
Are you on Facebook
Mitch
Mitch, Mitch, Mitch
My dear Mitch
Apparently you've got
A little obsession mate
Yeah I do have
And I wouldn't call it an unhealthy obsession, but I know you guys, we were talking off the air, but we all love a bit of Facebook Marketplace, right?
Facebook Marketplace is one of my favorite things in the entire world.
Do you manifest things on Facebook Marketplace as well?
Did you like make something appear that you just really wanted by thinking about it and searching it so insistently?
I will see something full price in a shop front window and I will look at it and I will imagine it on Facebook, the little ad, the price, the discount, and it will happen the next day.
It'll be there.
I don't know what kind of data Facebook has on me, but I always get Lamborghinis and things,
and I am never looking or buying a Lamborghini.
Yeah, no, that's not my, that's not even my tag.
I get really weird things.
Like I bought a fireplace off Marketplace.
But my most recent purchase, have you guys heard of a theremin?
No.
It's a musical instrument.
No, it's not.
It's definitely not.
No, it's a musical instrument.
Sure.
It's, you know, X-Files.
Do you make this up?
Yeah.
No, no, I've actually got it here.
Should I just get it and show you?
Yeah, I think you should go and get it and show me.
It's actually radio, so this is very awkward right now.
I don't think anybody can see this.
It's an instrument.
No, I want to see the theremin.
I will explain it.
Okay, great.
Mind you, 1,100 brand new.
Got it for 700.
Bargain.
I'm not going to lie.
It looks like a toasty maker.
Are you sure that's not a sandwich press?
Quiet.
Trust me.
Do I look like I know the difference between a theremin and a sandwich press?
I do.
Can you put cheese in it?
So this is, no.
This is my theremin.
And this is the instrument.
Why has it got an aerial?
Yeah, it's got two aerials.
Two antennae.
Here we go.
I'm going to play the theremin that I bought on Facebook.
Do you hear that?
Is that the Titanic theme?
Sounds like my heart will go on.
Actually, my niece and nephew, they have one of those.
You press the button and it plays a musical song
and they sing nursery rhymes.
Very, very similar.
Thanks for comparing me to a child.
Isn't that great?
I think Fisher Price do one for like $50.
Can you send me a link, please?
No problem.
What's the best thing that you've bought off Marketplace?
Oh, I buy so much stuff.
I bought furniture.
I decorated my entire garden.
I, at one stage, bought roll-out turf for my nature strip
because someone had leftover roll-out turf
and I had to fill my car with it.
Clean it for days.
Like, I was going through the car wash so many times
so I could use their free vacuum.
Oh, my God.
It was a lot.
Okay, so we've had a theremin.
I still don't know what a theremin is.
I'm just impressed I remembered what it was called.
I'll come and do a performance, Victoria.
You give me your address and I'll be there.
All right, I'll send it to you after.
I'm pretty convinced it is a sandwich press that makes sounds, though.
All right, Victoria's bought fake lawn.
Mitch has got a theremin.
131065, what bargain did you snap up of Facebook Marketplace,
and how much did you save?
We're going to take your calls and hear your stories next.
This is She's on the Money Radio Show.
Why are you on Facebook?
All right, you might be hearing a bit of a weird noise.
That is Mitch's theremin, which he bought a Facebook marketplace.
I've literally never heard a better sandwich press.
It's not a Breville.
It's a theremin.
Buttonbeam.
He actually made us a really nice ham and cheese toasty as well.
I did.
That's separate to the theremin.
So it's electromagnetic, which means the closer you get to it, the sound changes.
So it's like he's just waving his hands in the air like he's doing a bit of Tai Chi.
A great purchase.
Well, says you.
All right.
We are taking your calls right now.
31065, what bargain did you buy a Facebook marketplace?
and how much did you save?
All right, Jess has called us.
It was your husband, Jess.
What did he buy?
He bought a five-seater spa for $2,900
and it's worth a little bit over $11,000.
Oh, gosh.
Has a whole kit and caboodle, like LED light,
Bluetooth sound system in it.
Except he didn't realise that you need to pay for transport.
Oh, transport would be so expensive.
On a spa, that'd be a lot of money.
So it's about $1,100 and then about $1,700 in transport.
Oh, no.
Wait, the real question here is did you actually even want a spa?
Yeah.
We did.
You did, all right.
This isn't as bad as I thought it could be, but it could have been really funny.
Did all the money saved end up being spent on the transport costs?
It was $1,100.
Yeah, for like an $11,000 spa.
Look, we'll call that a money win.
That's a win.
That's a win.
Take it.
Can I come over?
What's your address?
Maybe you can hire it out to people.
Yes, get some of our money back.
She doesn't sound convinced.
She's like, I'm not getting that chubby queen and that money girl in my spa.
All right.
Adam has called on 381065.
Adam, what have you bought and how much did you save off Facebook Marketplace?
Mate, I found this cheeky bugger selling his home brew.
And I managed to pick up 20 cases for about $100.
Which means I saved about $900 if you think about it.
That's a money win.
Let's just point out we don't condone the illegal selling of alcohol here.
I'd be like, how'd you make this, mate?
Where's this from?
Is it actually what you said it was going to be?
How much have you consumed, Adam?
Look, me and the lads, we managed to rip through those 20 cases in a couple of weekends.
Oh, so it's already gone and you are still alive.
That is also a money win.
Adam's like, I've had diarrhea for the past month, but no, I loved it.
It was a good purchase.
Slightly going blind, but that's fine.
Thanks, Adam.
All right, guys.
Now, this isn't a Facebook Marketplace buyer.
This is a Facebook Marketplace seller.
Sophie, what are you selling on Facebook Marketplace to Mitch?
Hey, guys.
I just sell whatever I can get my hands on.
All right.
Did you recently sell a theremin?
Are these things yours, Sophie?
Sophie, are you calling us from a prison?
Not yet.
My dad bought shoes in the wrong size online,
and so I was going to give them to the op shop
because I couldn't be bothered selling them.
That's fair.
But I thought, let's give it a go.
Because my dad's in his 70s, I didn't think he had any good shoe taste.
Right.
But it turns out everyone wanted his shoes.
That's because the biggest demographic on Facebook is old people.
He's old, yeah.
I need shoes.
I'm old.
That's a niche.
Really weird radio announcers.
They're the only two people on Facebook Marketplace.
How much did you make from these shoes?
$70, but I may or may not have returned to my father.
Wait, wait.
They were used shoes and you got $70 for them?
No, they were new shoes that didn't fit her dad.
So she took them from her dad, sold them, pocketed the cash.
Did you tell your dad you were going to be in shock?
Yeah, where did the shoes go in your dad's eyes?
He has not asked me about it yet.
Fantastic.
I love that.
Yeah, Victoria, each week we'll bring someone's financial story on air
to get your advice on what they should do.
So you can send them in too.
Hit us up.
Send us an audio message.
We'll play it on the show.
Are you ready to give some cash advice?
I would love to do that.
But if you think I'm going to take this seriously,
you've got another thing coming, my friend.
No, yeah, we never said it would be good advice.
It's just advice.
Oh, yeah, I did not promise anything.
The good advice, that's over on the podcast.
This is radio.
This is entertainment.
I can't let you down.
This is holy.
So this is the first one for the first show.
She sent us this message.
She wants advice on buying her first house using her superannuation.
My partner and I are saving for a deposit to buy our first house.
We're considering whether we put our savings into our superannuation for the first homeowner scheme
or whether we just keep it in the bank.
Would love your advice on what you think we should do.
See, that's scary.
I feel like touching super is like at her age and at my age,
I wouldn't know how to even get access to my super.
So it's not as scary as you think it is.
It is actually scary if you're listening to the Liberals and what they have to say about
their proposed plan to let you access your superannuation to buy property,
which I think is incredibly negative.
That's stupid because it'll just kind of come back and bite you in the butt later on.
Literally, they're saying you can take up to $50,000 out of your superannuation to put towards property.
But Mitch, by the time you're retired, if we do some little quick maths,
because I am actually a legitimate financial advisor,
at an average rate of return of 7.5%,
that's like $575,000 that you're missing out on in retirement if you take $50,000 out today.
That's just an election thing, right?
They just wanted to get votes by saying that because it sounded good.
It sounds really good on the surface, but I just think that there's a lot of detrimental things.
But our listener, she was actually asking about the first home super saver scheme.
And you can say that five times really quick.
You are better than I am at that.
But essentially, that scheme is really effective for a lot of people because you can make additional voluntary contributions to super and actually make use of the tax payable in super.
So 15% instead of your marginal tax rate.
And it might put you ahead in terms of savings just by dumping some cash in your super fund
to then pull it out later when you're buying property.
Oh my God, so it could work for Holly.
Yes, and it's very different to what the Liberal government are proposing.
It's actually the legit way of putting yourself ahead and utilising superannuation to do it.
See, you were worried.
That was good advice.
That was legit.
I wrote notes.
I took something from that.
I was watching you and you did not write any notes.
What is he drawing there?
I've just drawn a giant smiley face.
I wrote nothing down.
I wrote nothing down.
If you want to get a question and get in touch with us, hit us up on social searches on The Money.
We'll answer your question next week.
Yeah, and Super Saver Saturday coming up next.
Victoria, you're going to give us some sneaky tips.
Sneaky? I feel like we need to be a little bit sneaky.
Are they actually sneaky?
They're not going to be sneaky once we put them on the radio.
That's a very good point.
But it's going to keep more bucks in your bank account.
That's coming up next on She's On The Money Radio Show.
She's On The Money Radio Show.
Money, money, money.
With Victoria Devine.
Across the country, she's on the Money Radio Show
with Australia's number one finance podcaster,
Victoria Devine and Mitch Turi.
He's not the podcaster, though, guys.
No, but I am number one.
That's the part in the opening that's me.
I'm number one, you're the podcaster.
I'm number one, you can't be number two.
No, okay, move on.
What are we here for today?
We're about to save some people some money with this.
Simper Saver Saturday.
Oh, I love this.
Victoria, this is honestly, I think, the best part of our show.
And it is the first show.
So I'm really setting it up for failure.
But this is honestly why I love listening to your podcast and why I love following you
because I'm such a tight ass that I love saving bank.
And I'm such a tight ass, but I love sharing my tight ass tips with everybody.
So it works out really well.
So give us some tips because I've got some, but I want to hear the pro ones and then I'll
give you what I think.
So fuel is incredibly expensive at the moment.
Like I feel, you don't know?
No.
You must be rich, rich.
No, I just walk.
Oh, okay.
Oh my gosh.
You're so fancy.
You're such a skinny person.
And of course you walk everywhere, Trav.
But if you're not Trav, you might be interested in this.
And that is the not sponsored, it's just good recommendation of the 7-Eleven fuel app,
which you guys probably haven't seen before because it's a bit of a niche recommendation.
Yeah.
But the reason we love this is you can lock in fuel prices.
So when the fuel is like at a reasonable price, you can lock it in so that when you go to the bowser the next day
and it's like more than $2, you can be like, yeah, but I locked it at $1.70.
Wait, it stays at the good price?
Yes, you get to lock in the good prices if you can't get to the bowser.
But what happens if there's a better price once you've locked it in?
Oh, you just unlock it and then re-lock the good price.
What?
Are you walking because you didn't get your driver's license?
No, I got it when I was 17 years old, thank you.
And I drove up to Kalamunda Senior High School my first day.
Anyway, no, no, no.
But I mean, like, if you get a better price, you can just unlock it and go,
no, no, no, that's $1.70, but now it's $1.60.
Yeah, I just lock in the better price.
That is amazing.
You've just got to check the app always
and you can see the different prices all around the city
and I feel like it's a game changer, really.
Yeah, that's good.
If I had a car, I would.
Mitch, what have you got for us?
Okay, so mine is, I think, far superior.
So I work, I host the night show,
like the late night show at Kiss FM.
Just subtle plug for his own show.
The night show, everybody.
That's why I get paid millions.
And I finish the night show at 10 o'clock
and there's no staff in the building.
So if you work weird hours,
or if no one's watching, really, go.
I feel like I know where this is going.
Yeah, it's theft.
But listen, little things.
We're not talking petty theft or grand theft auto.
It's take a loaf of bread or take a litre of milk that maybe someone has used for one cup of tea
and you've still got more than half left.
Take the butter if there's only half left.
Take the little things that the big business won't notice but you will having in your house.
So what are you doing?
Going home with half a jug of milk and a tub of butter for dinner?
Or are you putting these things on Facebook?
I'm hocking them again.
and I'm like, Victoria Devine, touch this loaf of bread,
$1,000, and people line up.
They line up.
What was the last thing you stole?
I stole oat milk, and I don't even drink oat milk.
But I just knew.
Wow.
Was it a gift for me?
That's so good.
It's actually going to infuriate the three people in your workplace
that have ordered that oat milk going, who's taken the oat milk?
But I'm happy it's Mitch.
Yeah, there's only ever one oat milk.
Like, what?
It's my money tip.
Don't come.
I think we had an email about that.
I can actually see who is the novice and who is the expert in this relationship,
and that's been made very clear on our very first episode.
Thank goodness.
All right, that is us done and dusted.
Show number one.
We'll catch you next week.
Until then, you can catch up with us anytime on socials.
Just search She's On The Money.
Yeah, great first show, Victoria.
Oh, my gosh, we were so good.
Weren't we fantastic?
You are definitely a number one.
Ten out of ten, my friend.
Thank you.
