Starting point is 00:00:00 She's on the money. She's on the money. Hello and welcome to the She's on the Money radio show podcast. That's not how you do it, mate. Trav, what is going on? That is fine. Should I do it, Victoria? No.
Starting point is 00:00:35 Do you want to have a turn, Mitch? I don't even have it laminated. She's On The Money, the podcast for young millennials who are concerned about their cash flow. That's absolutely not it. But do you know what? Actual worst one in the world. I loved it.
Starting point is 00:00:46 Do you know what? It's about the tenacity, Trav. Do you know what we did do this week? We asked the She's On The Money community what marketplace funds they had and they had some bangers, which we have integrated well into the radio show. And that's kind of how I'm planning on running this show, moving forward, just so you know. Okay, boss. Wow.
Starting point is 00:01:05 I'm not the producer, nor am I the anchor. I'm just the talent. Didn't realize that this was an air check. It's actually my show. It is. She is on the money. You're not listening to me. You know what?
Starting point is 00:01:15 I found she's on the money, Trav. I thought it was good. I'll just get everybody else to do my work. They give me the tips. They give me the tricks. They tell me what they want to hear on the radio. And then I put it on the radio and I'm giving the people what they want. Genius.
Starting point is 00:01:25 Working smarter, not harder. I work really hard, too. Yeah, you know, speaking of working hard, we have been working hard to try to get you the greatest birthday present ever, Victoria. You haven't, though. No, we have. You're going to turn around and be like,
Starting point is 00:01:38 ha, ha, ha, my presents is your present. No. That's exactly what's going to happen. That's such a Trav joke. That is a Trav joke. He would so make that. I kind of feel like you would as well, Mitch, and you've just thrown me under the bus.
Starting point is 00:01:48 But we've been working hard together, Mitch and I, because... I'm quite unimpressed. Well, it is your birthday, and no, we did not spend any money on you. We were going to spend thousands and thousands, but we knew that we would get Victoria Devine going, you need to save money, you need to be frugal. So we've done that.
Starting point is 00:02:04 Mitch, tell them what we've done. Listen, I forget. What did we do? The free birthday stuff. It's all right. We'll edit it out when this goes to air. You'll be fine, all right? And go.
Starting point is 00:02:18 Yes, what we have is, and God, I remember this like it just happened. This is one of my favorite things, and I could never forget doing this. It's as if we just did it. because I run you through free shit you can get on your birthday. And I know you're thinking, oh, yeah, we all know you can get a boost juice. No, these are bigger than boost juice. And I have a lot of culinary ones. A lot of it's food-related, to be honest,
Starting point is 00:02:36 but that's all people care about these days, free food. I'm just impressed that you said the word culinary in this show. I didn't even know we knew a word so big. That's why they're paying me the, it's like medium-sized dollars. It's kind of in the middle of the road. Yeah, I can afford. Yeah, I do fine, just fine. I'm going to bring up Uber Eats.
Starting point is 00:02:52 I'm just going to remember the time you spent $17,000 in one financial year on Uber Eats. But that's okay. Oh my gosh, look, he's got another bag. He does. Stop doing that. It just got brought to me. The good news is he actually bought that with his tax return because we have our very last Super Saver Saturday Tax Edition. Victoria, we know that it's your favorite segment, but put tax on top of it.
Starting point is 00:03:16 It is your Super Saver Saturday Tax Edition. You love it. I love tax. All right. Well, that's enough talking from us. Let's get into the show right now. This is She's on the Money radio show. Enjoy it, everyone.
Starting point is 00:03:29 She's on the Money radio show. With Victoria Devine. Next week, Victoria, it's your birthday. I am. I'm in my 30s. Embrace it. Now, I'm sorry, but Mitch and I haven't bought you anything. But you will, won't you?
Starting point is 00:03:45 Not yet. Not yet. No, no, no, no, no. Speak for yourself. We've done something even better than that because we've gotten together and we have found some of the greatest places out there that give you free stuff on your birthday, right, Mitch? So I don't know if you knew this, but if you've got a Krispy Kreme, you show them that it's your birthday, you can prove it. You get four free original glazed Krispy Kremes. Get the hell out.
Starting point is 00:04:07 That's four. That's enough for you and a friend. Are you joking me? Yeah, that's enough for mid-morning tea for me. Sorry, what have you got, Trav? Well, what about on the same kind of dessert train, going to Baskin Robbins, you get a free scoop of ice cream. That's pretty good, too. Not bad.
Starting point is 00:04:21 But also, I am an absolute fiend for Nando's. If you've ordered something off of their app in the last six months, and let's be honest, we've all done it in the last six seconds, you get a free meal at Nando's. Oh, my God. That's so exciting for everybody who's not me because I'm vegan. All right, Mitch, what have you got? You can get a free muffin at, mine's all food related, sorry. You get a free muffin at Muffin Break. You get a free drink at Gloria Jean's all on your birthday.
Starting point is 00:04:49 I want someone to call in and tell me that they have had a birthday. Like they've gone and just done all of these things in one day. Like they went to Boost for breakfast. Then they went and got morning tea at Krispy Kreme. They went and got a free muffin. Sorry, they went to Nando's for lunch. Went to the Nando's app, yes. Then they went to Muffin Break and they got their afternoon muffin
Starting point is 00:05:08 and then a coffee from Gloria Jean's. It's like, I want someone who's done all of this and had a free day of food. Oh, well, you can hit us up on our socials. She's on the money. DM. DM us, guys. We'll get you on the show. And happy birthday, Victoria Devine.
Starting point is 00:05:19 If you don't like your presents, you know what? We didn't keep the receipts because they were free. Anyway. You can dream, you can dream. Tell him he's dreaming. Tell him he's dreaming. We do this on the show. We get really, really ridiculous Facebook Marketplace items that have actually been posted to Facebook Marketplace.
Starting point is 00:05:37 And if you don't know what Facebook Marketplace is, we talk about it a lot. It's like eBay or Gumtree, but it's built in to the Facebook app, and I absolutely love it. Victoria, you've got some good ones. Oh, I have some bangers for you. So many people have messaged us over the last few weeks because we did this segment a little while ago, and they were like, V, you missed this and this and this.
Starting point is 00:05:54 And so today I have them for you, and I cannot wait to share. So first things first, it's not Christmas, but end of financial year for someone like me feels like Christmas. So you know what you could buy? Very festive. Someone has taken a clear Christmas bauble. filled it full of baked beans and made a Christmas decoration out of it.
Starting point is 00:06:12 Oh, that's gorgeous. What? It's not the fact that someone filled a Christmas ornament with baked beans. It's the fact that they think they can get $25 for this. Tell me, Mimi. How much would you pay? What wouldn't you pay is the real question here.
Starting point is 00:06:27 Well, it's priceless, to be honest. I've got one, I've got one. This one is quite simply, and, you know, you've got to give it to them, really simple marketing here. It's just called underwear. there's two photos with pink lace underwear and black lace and uh the description is underwear good condition like new like a new what does like you mean like it's like lightly worn i'm gonna call it i don't think they're gonna wear those knickers i don't think that's why they're buying
Starting point is 00:06:52 moving on saturday morning family show tell them they're dreaming i got sent speaking of family show everybody loves love um and what's better than love than darren's secondhand engagement ring that he would like nine hundred dollars for because he says it was the biggest mistake of his life if anyone's interested it is a princess cut center diamond on a gold band um you being the expert getting married soon what is that is a good ring oh look it looks all right i just i don't know how much i'd like somebody else's secondhand ring that was labeled as the biggest mistake of his life you've already got a haunted house you don't want a haunted ring on your true the other one i got sent this week is actually see this picture it's a basketball hoop laying on
Starting point is 00:07:33 the ground and it's this dad and his name's damien damien says basketball hoop for sale i'm really disappointed my son is not nearly as athletic as i had hoped pick up only 100 why is your dad selling his basketball hoop mitch he's really disappointed his son is not nearly as athletic as he at home that's what i was implying but i just feel like there's been some winners and And unfortunately, it was the She's On The Money community who found these for us, not us. If you have seen something bizarre on Marketplace, hit us up on our socials. Just search She's On The Money. And my favorite thing about that was Mitch asked in the song, what's the group called again?
Starting point is 00:08:10 Oh, I wonder. The group's called She's On The Money, Mitch. Because I haven't been accepted in. It's like, answer these questions. And I put them in and they're like, now give me your date of birth. It's too much. I want to make sure that everybody in that Facebook group is like a legit person, not a bot. I'm in there every day commenting.
Starting point is 00:08:26 I just actually assume that the second you join my Facebook group, we're best friends. 100%. So I treat you that way. And the question, if you actually read them, was like, will you agree to be nice to everybody in this group? And also. And Mitch is like, no, I'm not even reading.
Starting point is 00:08:40 Absolutely not. I didn't read it. I'll be honest. He's the one passively, aggressively messaging people on Facebook marketplace telling them that their items are terrible. So I don't even know if I want this guy in the group. This is. She's on the Money Radio Show.
Starting point is 00:08:54 but right now it's time for this every single week we're going to bring someone's financial story on air to get your advice victoria on what they should do mitch who we got this week yeah we have sam sam sent us this message she said i just had four weeks annual leave approved for the end of the year and want to start booking accommodation in for a holiday which is smart she wants to get in early but she's noticed in just a few weeks looking online that the prices keep fluctuating One apartment was going to cost two grand for a few days, but then she checked back the next day and it was up to $2,500 for the same room, exact same dates. She says, why does accommodation fluctuate in price so much and how far out from a trip
Starting point is 00:09:35 is the cheapest time to book accommodation? Is this your confession that we were trying to get out of you? This is it. She told us this at the start of the show. I feel like the silliest person in the entire world because when it comes to money, I'm the one that's entrusted by all of my friends to make sure that i book and so like guys i have covered this so like this is my money mistake i'm not passing it on to my friends but a couple of weeks ago i told you guys that i'd like worked out when the cheapest time to book flights was
Starting point is 00:10:02 tuesday 8 p.m tuesday night yeah i also told you that you should do it on a device that doesn't have cookies on it so like either on your mate slack laptop or whatever so i did that by going into private browsing somehow I ended up on the American version of Skyscanner yeah so we can probably play a guessing game and the conversion rate to USD at the moment not that sexy guess who paid for all of her friends flights in USD instead of AUD and definitely didn't get the deal of the lifetime she thought she got yes and I didn't know until I was reviewing my credit card statement the other day and I was like um what is this like that is not what I spent on flights cross-checked it called them was a bit of a Karen on the phone because I'm like please explain this yeah and
Starting point is 00:10:51 the poor girl on the phone had to be like Victoria you have booked your flights in USD so there was an exchange rate payable and you're screwed my question to you is do you still go and be the hero to your friends or you just cop that extra money yourself so I've been the hero to my friends I felt like it wasn't their fault I made such a big money blunder I'm just copying that one on the nose it was a very expensive mistake but i just don't want to pass that on i feel like that wasn't their fault i messed it up and the flights genuinely were that amount i just happened to pay for them in the wrong currency oh so no that was really no real advice no real advice but i feel like pre-booking is really important when it comes to accommodation
Starting point is 00:11:32 yeah if you're planning on going on a holiday it always pays to do those flexi ones so you're like you know when you book and you like go online yes what does flexi mean yeah it means you can like unbook and rebook if the price changes and closer to the date often the price does change cheaper yeah usually it gets a little bit cheaper because they're like trying to fill it up yeah also if it doesn't get cheaper at least you've locked in the smallest rate right but if you pre-book and pick non-flexi often they will go all right well you locked it in it's completely non-refundable And even if you see it cheaper elsewhere, you can't get a better deal. So if I was in that situation, one, I'm a little bit of a hustler when it comes to getting
Starting point is 00:12:12 a good deal. So if I saw my room rate at a cheaper rate before I left, I'd probably still call them anyway and be like, yo, I saw this. Can I please have it price matched or something for them to say no. You have no shame. I have no shame. Honestly, a money win is a money win. And my favorite part about it is everybody thinks it's like asking too much, but like
Starting point is 00:12:31 think about the types of people that you call. They're just like you and I. They're either working in the call centre or they're like on reception at a hotel. They get it. They want a good deal too. And if you're nice to them on the phone, they're very likely to be like, all right, Trav, that makes sense. Story checks out.
Starting point is 00:12:45 So the takeaway is have no shame. Have no shame because if you don't ask, the answer's always no. It's not like you're calling the CEO of Crown Hotels and asking him for a discount. You're just calling the nice people that work on reception and going, hey, saw this at a better rate. What can you do? And they might not be able to change it, but what they could do is potentially upgrade you. or like a bottle of champagne on check-in or something.
Starting point is 00:13:04 I like it. Like, there's always a deal to be had, my friend. Yeah. Speaking of deals to be had, Super Saver Saturday, Victoria, you're going to give us some sneaky tips on how to... Oh, as if I haven't been giving you enough sneaky tips today. Well, that's what you get paid for, mate. Okay.
Starting point is 00:13:16 If you want to keep... I'll keep them coming. That's the show. It's actually the show. Sorry, guys, we're not doing the show anymore because Victoria has refused to give you... Super Saver Saturday. Yes, and it's EFS, everyone, and a financial year is on.
Starting point is 00:13:30 the last week of financial year actually so we've got some tax tips to help you save some money in your tax return victoria you got a couple of them in your hot little pocket i do i always do can it be like tax time tips or does it have to be a specific tax related tip you know what give us whatever tips you want victoria we'll take all right so my first tax time tip is it's end of financial year so like what a better time to set some financial goals and actually think about where we're going for the next six or twelve months i feel like too many of us wait until the 1st of January to make new goals and resolutions to save money and when it gets to June 30 you're like so far I can't believe I haven't saved xyz or I can't believe I did this so this year it's
Starting point is 00:14:11 all about shopping around and getting the best deal so if you haven't re-looked at your phone plan or you haven't looked at your electricity recently or you haven't really culled down your streaming services now my friend is the time to set yourself up for a very healthy July do a personal audit yeah do a little personal audit and have a look at what you're spending you could save some money yeah all right well next one i've got is actually a little bit niche but the reason i'm saying it is because the ato spokesperson came out late last year and said this to canstar who happens to be the company that budget direct won so many awards with amazing did you see that link yeah absolutely it was great but the ato spokesperson came out and said this year we're
Starting point is 00:14:51 going to be paying close attention to capital gains in particular from cryptocurrency as well as traditional property and shares but too many people don't understand that if you bought and sold cryptocurrency because i feel like that was real trendy yeah heaps of people did yeah you're gonna have to pay capital gains tax on that so if you're not prepared for that now's the time to have a bit of a look at what you could be up for because if you're jumping up and down about having made some money on crypto did you know that you have to pay 50 capital gains tax if you sell that within the first 12 months of owning it. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:15:28 Yeah, it's wild. Oh, and then the next one, you said make it juicy, Nish. Do you know what's juicy? There's nothing sexier than superannuation. Oh, yeah. Not one thing is sexier than super. Careful, it's very early in the morning. Don't get too hot.
Starting point is 00:15:41 Super to me, baby. I will. And if you're looking to get a little bit more bang for your buck and you haven't recently looked at your super fund, I would be having a look at that and working out whether making a non-concessional contribution is a smart idea for you, which means putting extra cash in because you will get a tax refund on that because the tax rate inside superannuation is only 15%.
Starting point is 00:16:01 And if you ask me, that's pretty sexy. There's obviously caps and stuff associated. So definitely have a look and make sure it is in line with your values. But you could have a bit of a money win for future you by putting some more money in super this year. Yeah, I know. That is way too many tips. I am way too excited for a Saturday morning.
Starting point is 00:16:18 So I think it's time. Before you overload my brain and Mitch's, let's get out of here. We're going to catch up with you next week. Until then, you can catch up with us any time that you like. Any time. Just search. Literally any time. We basically live on the internet.
Starting point is 00:16:32 She's on the money on socials. Missed any of She's on the Money radio show with Victoria Devine? Hear it on the Catch Up podcast on iHeartRadio.
