Starting point is 00:00:00 She's on the money. She's on the money. Hello and welcome to the She's on the Money radio show podcast, the podcast for millennials who want financial freedom. I mean, you're not going to get hired to do the actual podcast if you're introducing it like that. Trav struggles every week, doesn't he, Victoria? We get what we get and we don't get upset. Well, I don't even get paid for this, mate.
Starting point is 00:00:39 And I've asked you, just give me the line and I'll read it. I've been telling you this whole entire time it's good for your exposure. Thank you, my profile. No, hey, I am Trav Roebuck. That is Victoria Devine, Australia's number one finance podcaster. And Mitch Turi, you're over there as well. G'day, mate. I don't have, like, a number one anything.
Starting point is 00:00:57 What do you think I'd be number one at, Victoria? Stroking Trav's ego. Ooh. Uber Eats. Number one of my heart. I'll take Uber Eats. I actually will take that. I ordered Uber Eats three times on the weekend, by the way, Victoria.
Starting point is 00:01:09 Didn't even take your advice. Oh, my gosh. So did I. I ordered breakfast and then I ordered chips in bed. I was so unwell after doing the show that I was just like, I'm going to bed. I ordered a Diet Coke and some Macca's chips and 10 out of 10, I was better, which leads me into the question of the week. We were talking about this off-air, Mitch, and you shut me down real quick
Starting point is 00:01:29 and you said, save it for the people, save it for the people. Yeah, yeah. What's your Macca's order? I'm glad you saved it for the people because I have a staunch order and I finesse this order. Like I work nights radio, so I do a lot of drive-thru. Oh, you've got this. Late at night.
Starting point is 00:01:43 Now, let me tell you, this is a fact that I don't think many people would know. After midnight, they close the rap-making device and they don't make Macca's raps after midnight. And you should see me. How do you pick healthy options? I thought you said they closed the rat-making device, and I'm like, well, that's probably a good thing. That's a good thing.
Starting point is 00:02:02 But fun fact, I also used to do late-night radio, Mitch, and I ate Maccas because it was the only thing open as well. Yeah. I gave myself a year-off Maccas as, like, my New Year's resolution. And you haven't had it in, like, ten years? And I haven't had it for ten years. Oh, boring. Cannot relate.
Starting point is 00:02:23 No one cares about your humblebuck. The absolute crap out of KFC and HJ's, though. But Macca's, not for 10 years, mate. I don't care. That's actually quite impressive because I'm quite the addict. Mitch, what's your order, though? Okay, my order is a double cheeseburger and here's the clencher on a steamed bun. Yeah, 100%.
Starting point is 00:02:41 And Victoria, an area steamer. And for those who have never tried a steamed bun, it's like the softness of a Krispy Kreme donut. It's so heavenly soft. It's actually so much better. And if you forget to ask for it, you just know. Steamed hams, as they say on The Simpsons. What did you used to order, Trav?
Starting point is 00:02:56 I used to have a large Big Mac meal with two cheeseburgers and ten nuggets. How are you so skinny? I walk, remember. I don't have a car. More humble brags. Another brag from Trav, I know. Hey, you know what? We actually have some amazing brags come up in the show.
Starting point is 00:03:10 We do. Because it's an amazing show, if I'm just putting it out there. Super saver Saturday, Victoria, you're going to give us sneaky tips on how to keep more bucks in your bank account. I mean, I gave you some, but not a lot this week, honestly. Listen to some other podcast episodes if you're looking for some hot tips. because this week wasn't it. No, money matters, though. If you're struggling with your cash flow,
Starting point is 00:03:28 you got yourself in a bit of a situation, you can hit us up at She's On The Money socials. But you've got some amazing advice as well for the peeps out there. Is it buy Fruitylexia in the box? Yeah. Didn't want to say. We were going to keep it. What was the advice you were trying to weasel out of me there
Starting point is 00:03:45 because I just feel like I didn't hit the mark. No, that was exactly what I wanted to hear from you. I've graduated, Trav. I now no longer buy Fruitylexia and I now buy exclusively Aldi wines. Wow, amazing. Not sponsored. Are they good?
Starting point is 00:03:57 I didn't know that. Is Aldi wine good? 100%. I don't know if I meant to say this, but they're all owned by Jacob's Creek, so they're actually good wines. I didn't know that. So they're a good drop.
Starting point is 00:04:05 Yeah, they're actually a good drop. Like there's one called Red and I'm obsessed with it. And is it a red? I was going to say, absolutely nice. It's like a black bottle with like a very flat, it looks like a very expensive bottle. And you have to disclose that they did send me some, but I have now purchased it because I liked it so much.
Starting point is 00:04:22 We also threw it out there on 131065. We got some amazing hacks that I reckon I'm going to use as soon as we get out of this radio show. Yeah, we got good hacks. I wrote them down, and you guys will too. They're very beneficial. All right, enjoy. Here is this week's She's On The Money radio show.
Starting point is 00:04:41 She's On The Money radio show. With Victoria Devine. Hey, you know what I was doing? I was drinking my Barocca Sport. Thank you for that, Victoria Devine. Oh, you're welcome. You got me hooked. I'm such a little influencer.
Starting point is 00:04:55 You are. You influence me and I love drinking it with my morning paper. Yes, I read papers. I read it on my iPad. Yeah, I'm like a 90-year-old man with a font size 110. Yeah, it's really, it's really bad. I reckon you'd use the Siri voice option, mate. You'd highlight it and get Siri to read it to you.
Starting point is 00:05:10 I reckon he has Metamucil as well. You've seen inside my pantry. Anyway, I was reading this article. Did you know this, right? From Wednesday, the 1st of June, the Hex debt is going to get bigger, which is obviously when you go to uni and you can't pay for it, it's a loan that the government give you. I think it's called Help Now.
Starting point is 00:05:25 Everyone knows it as HECS. Because it's tied to inflation, right, and inflation's been surging, they are upping the price of the HECS debt, which I think is terrible, right, because so many kids have HECS debts. I don't think it's terrible. I just think that's life. But before we get there, and I tell you exactly why this is happening, Mitch Turi, what's inflation?
Starting point is 00:05:45 Inflation, see when you've got a balloon. Yeah, I knew he was going to go there, Dad. Now listen, and you've got a balloon, you've got a kid's party to go to. How do you get that balloon up? Inflation. Also, car tyres as well, for those of you playing golf. Oh, so smart. Your ego.
Starting point is 00:05:58 Do you have Hextet Victoria? I don't really want to talk about the six figures. I can only have. No, sorry, we are going to talk about. Yeah, we are. Hold on, how many degrees have you completed or started and stopped to get six figures? I haven't stopped any, just so you know.
Starting point is 00:06:12 Thank you for assuming I would flunk, but I finished every degree I started. Congrats. Gotta love TAFE, though. TAFE has a good innings, but four degrees. I'm just trying to keep those parents proud, you know? Oh, my God. Are you still paying that off, or are you one of those people that are going to pay it off later,
Starting point is 00:06:28 or are you incrementally paying it off? No, I'm paying it off based on what my income is, but I don't pay any more just because I'm like, no, I've got better things to do with my money. Well, that's the sad thing, because most of the people that have help debt or HECS debt are teenagers, and remember the feeling of being a teenager? They aren't teenagers.
Starting point is 00:06:41 They are. They're 18-year-olds, 19-year-olds. No, they're not. What have you got at 18? Victoria, we... One semester at university. We just are talking about teenagers because we want to play this. Because I'm just a teenage dirtbag, baby.
Starting point is 00:06:59 See, if you don't say you're a teenager, it doesn't work, mate. So stop ruining things. Okay, sorry. Trav and I have planned this. We had coffee before the show and we planned to play that song. You know where Victoria was? Too busy doing degrees, mate. That's where you were.
Starting point is 00:07:14 But we want to know, how did you make your money go further? 131065, we want to know. Maybe it was like a diet of two-minute noodles. Me goring. Nobody ate two-minute noodles. They were expensive. Or, you know, maybe girls going out and getting drinks from guys. That's actually just smart business.
Starting point is 00:07:33 Okay, well done. Well, what about you? How did you save money, Victoria, when you were a teenage dirtbag? Do you remember Scoobies? Oh, you're a Scooby girl. Yeah, I used to make Scooby bracelets. it'll be 50 cents a strand if you wanted extra beads and stuff i'd charge more for that and then when i got to university i would photocopy the notes that i took and i would sell them wow because
Starting point is 00:07:53 i'm an adult did you make a lot it was pretty profitable i used to trade for money obviously but also i would trade for things from the canteen so genius i did the same thing in primary school but it was like the yugioh card boom oh yeah oh my god i had like the trench coat the school uniform Mom, I would pull it open and go, what do you want? You want blue-eyed white dragon? Oh, my God. I got grey cat. And what I would do is mum would take me to Paddy's Markets,
Starting point is 00:08:17 which is like a giant bootleg market, and I would get the bootleg fake cars. Oh, you would sell them. And then I'd come back and I'd be like, these are rare. They're fresh off the ship and they were fake. And you could feel the difference because it was like thin paper and not what the kids were. But, like, other people might not know. That's on them.
Starting point is 00:08:33 They should have known. They should have done an authenticity check. Mate, Mitch, you are such a great overcoat kind of guy. I'm just putting it out there. What did you do when you were a teenage dirtbag to save yourself a little bit of cash? Going to take your calls next. This is She's on the Money Radio Show. Right now we're doing this, guys.
Starting point is 00:08:50 Because I'm just a teenage dirtbag, baby. Yeah. Yeah, the reason we are doing that is because your help debt, which is previously known as your hex debt, apparently. Your hex, yeah. Getting more expensive as of last Wednesday. It's not as bad as people seem to think it is. Inflation has increased, and it's set to increase at about 6%,
Starting point is 00:09:13 but they're not passing all of that on to your help debt, so don't worry too much. Hey, Packers, you've given us a call on 131065, mate. How were you a teenage dirtbag? What did you do? I remember going to get $2 pots on a Tuesday. That was a winner. That just sounds like a good deal.
Starting point is 00:09:28 I know. All right. We did ask them to call Victoria. I do respect that. I definitely respect that. Packers, you seem like the kind of guy that would still do that. Is there any establishments around that have anywhere near a $2 pot? I think if you hunt a local bolo, you might sniff a couple of cheap pots down there.
Starting point is 00:09:44 Yeah, when I think Victoria Divine, I think hanging out on the corner of a local bolo. That's what I think. Wow. I picture you, Victoria. All right, thanks, Packers. No worries, guys. Have a good day. Abby on 131065, tell us, how did you make your money go further when you were a...
Starting point is 00:09:58 Teenage girl, baby. Okay, so I was about like 15 or 16 and I used to buy pretty much whatever I wanted at the shop. Oh, so you were rich, rich. Okay. 15, no, no. I always kept the tags on so that I would go out and then I would wear it and then I would try my very best to return it.
Starting point is 00:10:22 Oh, did it work? Like it worked, but I lived in fear. Yeah. I had like industrial strength deodorant. I like couldn't get anything on it. It was like, I didn't even know if it was worth it. I can just imagine Abby, like you walk past, you go to give her a hug. She'd be like, get away from me.
Starting point is 00:10:40 Also, what if someone saw the tag, Abby? Like if someone said to you, hey, you've still got the tag on, let me cut it off for you. I'm just going to rip it off. Oh gosh. You'd freak out. Oh my God. I had all my friends were in on it too. They were like monitoring my type situation the whole time.
Starting point is 00:10:52 Did anything ever happen? No, I was so lucky. Although one time, like, obviously when you're 16, you go into these stores and they, like, suss you out. They look you up and down. They don't really know you. As someone who used to work in retail, we know. They still do that to me now.
Starting point is 00:11:07 But the best part was so that, like, the people behind the counter were also usually 16, so they probably couldn't care less. No, they really don't. As long as you're not rude, I think that they'll do anything. But my anxiety would peak just because I'm the klutziest person in the entire world. I could not buy a dress and not get something on it. I mean, look at your shirt now, mate. I didn't want to say anything.
Starting point is 00:11:26 Look, it's not my fault. And I keep wearing white. I do it to myself. You bring it on yourself for sure. All right. Thanks, Abby. Thank you, guys. Now, Brad, on 131065, you're going to get along with Victoria with yours, mate.
Starting point is 00:11:39 Oh, did he have a Scooby shop in primary school too? I doubt it. How are you going, guys? This goes back to, yeah, you're just in your teenage days, but going back and buying the old four-litre wine cart, I reckon you can pick them up for less than $10 back in the day. Exactly. Exactly, Fruity Lexia makes you sexier.
Starting point is 00:11:56 Fruity Lexia or Moselle was my go-to with a couple of liters of Fanta. Oh, Fanta, you classy man. Nice mixer. Yeah. And no Airbnbs back in those days. The only air you needed was to blow up the cask at the end of the night for a pillow. I definitely didn't get the four liters, but I definitely did put lemonade and ice in it because class.
Starting point is 00:12:16 Yeah, you're a classy gal. But look, I was right from the start. Inflation is blowing up the Fruity Lexia bag at the end of a party. Oh, here's the time. Get out of it. That's what we call an out. I'm going to be out of a job. All right, Money Matters coming up next right here on She's on the Money Radio Show.
Starting point is 00:12:34 Money, money, money. She's on the Money Radio Show. Money, money, money. With Victoria Devine. Money, money, money. Okay, it's Money Matters, Victoria. Each week we're going to bring someone's financial story on air and then we're going to get your professional advice on what they should do.
Starting point is 00:12:52 We had a 15-year-old last week, and the update is he's a billionaire. So your advice has really... You're not listening to me? That's cool. No, he was a billionaire. He sounded 15. Honestly, he sounded like he was 52, but that is not the case here. Maybe that's why he's making money.
Starting point is 00:13:08 Okay, well, Amber, who has no age, has sent us this message. She says, it's nearly the end of the financial year, and I'm wondering if I should put extra money into super on top of the 10% that her employer already contributes. How much can I personally contribute after tax without getting penalised? And is she better off doing it considering you can't really access your super until you're retired? This is the question that everybody wants the answer to, right? Like, do I put money in super or do I not?
Starting point is 00:13:33 And to be honest, I can't answer that for you. One, because I'm a professional financial advisor and it would be in breach of my standard of ethics and code of ethics and whatnot. But we're going to talk about it anyway. And so it really depends on your values and what you actually want to get up to. if you're a bit behind because I know I was for a very long time because I just worked in small hospo jobs and retail jobs so by the time I actually started working quote professionally if that's what we're calling this I am behind in my super so I do make some contributions so I'm back up to the norm but what you want to do is make sure that you're making a decision that is
Starting point is 00:14:08 in line with where you want to go because if you're saying all right well V sounds so good to save so much money and put some extra stuff in super but I'm also saving for a home like where would your money be better used i think we need to put all our values on the table and work out which one we actually want to service at the moment because super albeit super powerful and spoiler alert on the first of july it's actually increasing from 10 to 10.5 that's very sexy but we need to remember that we can't access those funds until we retire so if you want to use them then fantastic but also i think we should be making sure that we're not too far behind as well Well, my question is I have a friend that accessed her super early
Starting point is 00:14:48 to get gastric banding. She's like, I'm going to get weight loss surgery. Can I do that and go to Fiji? Can I just dip in and go, hi, I need a holiday for my mental health? Is your surgeon in Fiji? Is that where we're going? I'm sure I can find one. There's actually some really cool reasons you can dip into super
Starting point is 00:15:03 that I don't think a lot of people know about. Like you can dip into super for IVF. That's pretty cool. Yeah, that's great. Yeah, that's great. What else? What else? This is good.
Starting point is 00:15:10 Obviously, weight loss surgery, different surgeries. if you're going through financial hardship obviously during COVID a lot of people pulled money out of super but in saying that I don't endorse always pulling money out of super because what you take out of super is actually taking from future you and we always need to be making sure that we're looking out for future you and I don't think a lot of people during COVID obviously knew the ramifications of taking money out of super so a lot of people did some pretty cheeky things like buying boats or buying a new car when in reality you were meant to only pull money out if you're experiencing financial hardship.
Starting point is 00:15:44 Saying that, it's not my circus, not my monkeys. Okay. Well, there you go, Amber. Hope that helped. You can hit us up. She's on the money. Find us on Instagram, DM us, or send us a voice message. We'll play it on the show,
Starting point is 00:15:54 and you can get Victoria's professional advice. All right, coming up next, Super Saver Saturday. Victoria, you're going to give us some sneaky tips on how to get more bucks in our bank account. This is... She's on the money radio show. Super Saver Saturday. All right, yeah, so it's my favourite time of the weekend.
Starting point is 00:16:11 And instead of us bringing Super Saver Saturday tips today, we've got our friend Zach from the Collective Noun Radio Show. He does Saturday afternoons here on the same network. He has a killer Super Saver Saturday tip. Welcome to the show, Zach. Hi, buddy. Thanks, guys. Yeah, well, what I do, right, well, my wife and I,
Starting point is 00:16:27 we used to have five streaming services and it was like 80 bucks a month. But you can only watch so many shows. You know, well, basically you only ever watch one show at a time. Agreed. I don't know what you're doing if you're watching more than one show at a time, mate. Exactly. So what we did is, like, we scrapped all of them, and so we have one streaming service at a time,
Starting point is 00:16:45 and then we, like, exhaust it, and then we move on to the next one. Oh, yeah. Oh, so you're jumping, yeah, yeah, like on the free trial bandwagon. You're jumping from free trial to free trial. Oh, no, we pay for it. Where's the money winning this? We're not inventing new email addresses each month, a new identity just to get 30 days free.
Starting point is 00:17:07 No, so instead of paying $80 a month, You pay $15 a month, you exhaust the streaming service, and then you move on to the next one. No, I don't rate that. Absolutely not. And I say that because I just can't make a decision on anything. I need all the options in front of me. I need to be able to flick from Binge to Netflix to everything else.
Starting point is 00:17:24 I've got Paramount Plus on it. I need to be able to assess my options and then always just choose Real Housewives. Like, that's how it works. See, that's what everyone thinks. Everyone thinks they like a buffet, but no-one likes a buffet. Buffets are awful. They are.
Starting point is 00:17:39 You get little bits of heaps of different stuff that you don't like. Just get a whole lot of what you always want. Because you're always going to do that anyway, and people aren't going to sneeze in what you really want. So, Zach, love that one. No, I'm on board, Zach. I'm on board with you because, seriously, I've got Disney+, and I reckon I only used it last week when my niece was around.
Starting point is 00:18:01 I forgot that I'd had it for nine months. And you've been paying for it all this time. Yeah, I've been paying for KO, and, I mean, look at me. What's on KO? Sport, mate. There was like a live thing happening in New York that I wanted to watch. It was like performing, it was like a theatre thing on Kayo. So I downloaded Kayo.
Starting point is 00:18:15 I was about to say, was it Super Bowl? Because I can't see you watching sport, mate. I think it was like Disney on ice and now I still have it. So that's a good tip, Zach. I've exhausted it for everything that I need. Get out. Get rid of it. I've got to drive for the Disney, now I can kick off Kayo.
Starting point is 00:18:28 Fantastic. All right, hey, thank you so much, Zach. You are welcome with your money-saving tips any time, despite Miss Divine's opinions of them. Sorry, Zach. Thank you. Please still love me. Good luck with the show this afternoon.
Starting point is 00:18:39 I'm just trying. We're all just out here doing our best. You're the best, mate. Thank you so much, Zach. Yeah. Yeah, so can you maybe not paste our guests next time, Victoria? That's probably it. Poor Zach.
Starting point is 00:18:49 Absolutely hated it. RIP, Zach. Great money-saving tips all around, though. I'm actually going to invest in Scoobies now. I'm going to go on Amazon and I'm going to get some... What was it? It was like gel. It wasn't even...
Starting point is 00:18:59 No, it was like these little tubes of plastic that you would tie together. And everybody wanted me to make Scooby key rings. Oh, great. I feel like it was genius. Also, sell your notes at uni. Do people still take notes? Oh, that's true. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:12 I think they just Google her, right? Anyway, we're going to be back next week. Until then, you can catch up with us anytime on socials. Just search She's On The Money. We're out of here. Mitch, you've got to stick around, mate. Sucked in, more work to do. Britt Hockley and Laura Byrne for the Life Uncut radio show.
Starting point is 00:19:29 That's coming up straight after the news next. All right, see you next week, guys. See you, guys. Missed any of She's On The Money radio show with Victoria Devine? Hear it on the Catch Up podcast on iHeartRadio.
