Starting point is 00:00:00 On air and iHeartRadio, She's on the Money Radio Show, with Victoria Devine, starts now. Hello and welcome to the She's on the Money Radio Show podcast, the podcast for millennials who want financial freedom. Now, Devine. Hello. What was the best purchase you made this week? My flights to go see all of my community members around the country. Okay, that was like not what I was expecting, but it was a pretty good one.
Starting point is 00:00:30 Oh, really? Yeah. What were you expecting? I don't know if you want to say it on the podcast. Oh, I'm sitting here with a frozen Coke from 7-Eleven. I mean, they've gone up in price, right? So they've gone up to, this was a large. Please don't judge me for drinking a frozen Coke so early in the morning,
Starting point is 00:00:44 but I promise I needed it and I'd already had a coffee. So it's gone up to $1.50 for a large. But look at this, sustainable packaging. Great. We love to see it. You know, something else we love to see or hear is this week's show. Oh, no, I want to ask you. We can do whatever we want on this.
Starting point is 00:01:00 Of course. It's our podcast to do whatever we want. And no one's here. No one's here. And, like, Mitch is away sick, so he can't tell us. Mel, our producer, not here. We are riding not solo. We're two peas in a pod today.
Starting point is 00:01:11 But what was your best purchase of the week? Oh, my God. So I am a massive Formula One fan, as you know. You are. I absolutely love it. You're wearing a Formula One T-shirt right now. It's not actually Formula One. Actually, is that Tom Cruise?
Starting point is 00:01:23 It is Tom Cruise. Do you have a T-shirt with... Oh, mate. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Put your... Okay, get back in the bin there for a second, Vi. Why? You're going to put yourself in the bin.
Starting point is 00:01:31 There is a picture of Tom Cruise on your T-shirt. Because it is a cold trickle T-shirt, which is the character Tom Cruise plays in the 1990 film... Can't support it. ...Days of Thunder. Absolutely not. So it's not Tom Cruise. If you don't want my community, they don't care.
Starting point is 00:01:43 Mate, I do. I don't. And it's not about your community here or my shirts. It is. On this show, it is all about my community. So, sir, sit down. I absolutely love that little dropping into an ant's nest, and I did that on purpose.
Starting point is 00:01:56 Oh, I feel like people can bait me so easy. Gotcha! No, we absolutely love the community. No, no, no, it's not actually Tom Cruise because it's the character he plays, so technically it's not. But the best purchase I bought was an F1 replica race suit. An F1 replica race suit? Yep. Do you know why he's saying that, guys?
Starting point is 00:02:13 He's saying that because he owns the flipping company. Like, you own the company. And do you know what? I think it's genius. as if that's not the smartest thing you've ever seen in your life. You can't tell me, oh, I bought an F1 replica or like... Well, I didn't want to be that guy, but thank you so much. It's very smooth. But I am obsessed with it.
Starting point is 00:02:29 I can't wait. I've never been interested in racing. Today I am. Fantastic. You know what? I want my own race suit. I'm going to get one with a Divine next year. We could get She's On The Money race suit.
Starting point is 00:02:38 We definitely could. We had Renee Gracie on the show last week. We did. We'll call her. Don't worry about last week's show. Let's talk about this week's show. We're going to give you some dupes. Is there something that you've bought that, you know,
Starting point is 00:02:49 I'm not going to pay the full price for the full product. Honestly, there are so many, so many. Like, even here, I'm just thinking about it. Like, I used to be obsessed with this mascara. Not that you care, but my community might. From Kevin O'Coin, which is at Mecca. It's like a $50 mascara. But I'm obsessed with this mascara.
Starting point is 00:03:05 Every man and his dog has been gifted one from me. I kid you not. And it's the Extend Lash from Emco Beauty, just at Woolies. Wow. I buy it on sale for $12. I didn't think... Money Queen, 10 out of 10. It's basically the same thing.
Starting point is 00:03:18 They've also done entire dupes of basically everything Charlotte Tilbury. And as much as I can't get behind blatantly ripping off other businesses, I can get behind cheap cosmetics. So I haven't bought all of that stuff. I don't want to get behind it. But when I was looking for a really nice mascara, that one worked. It was at Woolies. It was on sale for $12, and now it is my staple.
Starting point is 00:03:39 Perfect, and it looks amazing. All right, plenty more. We're also going to do Facebook Marketplace Trash or Treasure. and, as always, some super amazing money-saving tips to keep more money in your bank account with a little super-saver Saturday, right? I think it's genius. How about we get into it, though?
Starting point is 00:03:55 Let's do it. I feel like that was a wild ride. It was. The She's on the Money radio show starts right now. It's She's on the Money radio show for your Saturday morning with Australia's number one finance podcast, the Victoria Divine, sitting over there. My name is Trav Roebuck.
Starting point is 00:04:09 Mitch Turi away sick this week, but that's okay. We don't even need him because we're going to do this. He's probably sitting in bed listening to us. Crying into his, like... Yeah, obviously. The only thing he could do if he missed a show. I was thinking, what would he be eating? People should go and check his Instagram and see if he's been posting stories.
Starting point is 00:04:28 A hundred percent. Yeah, he would be as well. Yeah, he'd be a little pest. You're in trouble, mate. We got you. Are you at brunch? We see you. Hey, coming up soon, we are going to do a little Facebook marketplace trash or treasure.
Starting point is 00:04:40 But the worst thing is, but it's always so hard when you see these celebrities look an absolutely amazing V and they've always got the latest and most expensive things. And it's like, how do I keep up with that? It's actually about getting rich and then you get hot. Okay. So we can't do that. So what we're going to do is make some recommendations on some good dupes of products that we love. But my favorite are dupes that are like really comparable, right?
Starting point is 00:05:04 So I don't know if we're going to get in trouble for this tribe name dropping. So hopefully we're not. Not sponsored. Not sponsored, just good. But one of my favourite lipsticks is the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk. It's kind of like a cult lipstick, right? But it's really expensive. You get it at Mecca and, to be honest, like, I adore it.
Starting point is 00:05:22 I have bought it. I will probably buy it again. Every man and his dog looks good in this lipstick. Honestly, my dog looks beautiful. Is that why Lucy's looking so beautiful today? She is stunning today, all because of this lipstick. But I have found a dupe, or I think I've found a dupe. I found it at Chemist Warehouse, so shout out to them.
Starting point is 00:05:41 Not sponsored, just good. $9.99. It is the Flower Petal Pound Lip Colour in Spiced Petal. And you know what? She goes in my handbag, and I have been saving my Charlotte Tilbury for special occasions. What's that Charlotte Tilbury worth? Oh, like $50 minimum. Oh, great.
Starting point is 00:05:57 Minimum. Jeez, Chemist Warehouse, buy five of them and also... Buy five of them. Keep one in your car, one in your handbag, one in your other handbag, one at your desk. You're going to look hot 24-7. And spicy. It feels like I want to eat that thing. This is a personal tip just for you.
Starting point is 00:06:09 Well, I've actually got a tip. It's not makeup or anything like that, but I love gaming and I love retro gaming. So like your Nintendos, your Super Nintendos, and I know your partner, Steve-O, also loves things like that. He does, yeah. You could go off and you could buy like a normal Nintendo or like a Super Nintendo or a Sega Mega Drive, and they're like $300, $400 a console still, right? But you've probably still got heaps of old school games hanging around the place. I randomly found this thing, again, not sponsored, a Retron.
Starting point is 00:06:38 So it's like retro with an N. Yeah, our radio show is not big enough to have every branded product. 100%. In saying that, we're trying to get there. So if anybody's like, oh, we'd love to throw some money at you for mentioning our product, we've got a game. Go for it. Let's do it.
Starting point is 00:06:52 I mean, we don't even get paid to do this, so it's fine. We don't. So you can basically play any Nintendo, any Super Nintendo, or any Sega Mega Drive game that you have all in one. So you don't have to worry about buying three different consoles. Why is this not more popular? Well, I'm guessing that's because people don't even know they exist. So again, it's called Retron.
Starting point is 00:07:12 Retro with an N on the end. I feel like we have very different types of recommendations here. My next recommendation, Kim Kardashian has a brand called Skims, which is known for having luxe quality T-shirts and shapewear and basic tees and stuff like that. Yeah, I was going to say, isn't that kind of like Spanx? Kind of, but they like do beautiful T-shirts and stuff and they've got a number of dresses that are kind of cult status.
Starting point is 00:07:36 Anyway, a T-shirt is going to set you back a minimum of $94 Australian. What? Yeah, just plain T-shirt. I've found the dupe. One, it is at Seprey. I bet you haven't set foot in a Seprey for a very long time. As a woman in my 30s, I was embarrassed to do so, but I was very, very glad I did because their Luxe Longline T,
Starting point is 00:07:57 which will set you back a cool $20 is basically identical. So you're basically giving our listeners $74. Free stuff. Wow. And it comes in the same colours and the fabric feels almost identical, like that buttery smooth. Anyway, I hope you guys blame me for selling out Supre. It's not something that I ever thought I would say,
Starting point is 00:08:19 but I'm proud of that dupe find because I have a few of them in my active wear wardrobe and I really, really like them. And you are the most active person I know, Divine. That is absolutely not true. The only true part of this story is that the T-shirts are good. Let's do this. Let's throw it out there. 131065, what's your hot tip for a dupe?
Starting point is 00:08:37 Like, what is something that you've bought? Audi. Audi supermarkets, hands down, everything on their shelves. Amazing, yeah. 10 out of 10. Just like that, if there's something that you know that is literally a fraction of the cost of the real thing, but just as good or even better, give us a call right now.
Starting point is 00:08:51 131065. We were talking just beforehand, And what's that cheap version of a product that you found that's either just as good or even better? Now, you're talking- Audi supermarkets. All we did during that break was talk about the snacks that you can get from Audi, and they're just better.
Starting point is 00:09:06 I'm not going to lie. Obviously, I have been sponsored by Audi in the past. The only reason I accepted that was because I was already obsessed with them. But I genuinely think, because like, have you been to an Audi recently? 100%. Yeah. So they basically just have one of each product. There's not like five different options for choc-chip muesli bars, right?
Starting point is 00:09:23 There's just one option and you know it's going to be good because that's the one option that they decided to put on the shelf. You kind of feel like that you're over in Europe, right? Because it feels like you're in a little European vacay getaway. It's amazing. I love it. And one of the things that my partner loves as well, obviously not real niche recommendation is the taramasalata.
Starting point is 00:09:44 It's pink. It is a Greek dip made of basically fish eggs. It's like a caviar dip, but you can get it at Aldi and he swears that is the best one out there. I'm literally just impressed that you nailed the pronunciation of that. Yeah, I'm basically Greek, so watch out. No thoughts, though, mate. Hey, we threw it out there, 31 to 65.
Starting point is 00:10:01 What's the dupe that you found, the thing that is way cheaper than the original and probably better? Celeste, what did you find, mate? So my parents have such an amazing Dyson stick vacuum. Oh, the best. Oh, I've got one of those. 10 out of 10, can recommend. Which is amazing, and I love it,
Starting point is 00:10:18 but it costs like around $1,200 or something like that, and I just can't afford it, which is fair enough. It is a pretty big investment, let's be honest. Hoover up your money. So what I did, I went to Kmart because I heard about this $99 one, which was super similar. Oh, everyone has been talking about this. It's the best thing ever.
Starting point is 00:10:36 I'm obsessed. And now my parents ever want to borrow it, so I win there. Tell them to go get their own Kmart vacuum. They can clearly afford the Dyson, so they can go get their vacuum a vacuum. You know what you do, Celeste? You actually hire it out to them. $10 each. There you go.
Starting point is 00:10:50 Perfect. You pay it off. I love that. That's a good idea. I really like that one. What is it called, by the way? I want to go get that. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:10:55 I think it's something stick. The Bryson stick. Wow. Fantastic. Hey, thanks so much, Celeste. No worries, legend. All right, 131065, this Saturday morning, we are talking about dupes. What have you bought the budget version of that's actually better than the original XC version?
Starting point is 00:11:12 Bex, give us a call on 131065. Mate, what did you buy? So, I bought this perfume. It's called Cloud by Ariana Grande. Ooh, I love Ari. It is seriously identical, if not better, than the Baccarat Rouge that you get at Mecca. I know that that Baccarat Rouge 540, very, very expensive perfume. What does that set you back?
Starting point is 00:11:34 So it's like $356 for 70 mil. What? That is expensive. And this cloud by Ariana Grande is only 50 bucks for 100 mil at Tamas Warehouse. Oh, is that on sale or is that just their standard price? No, that's what it costs all the time. That is a very good money. A lot of my girlfriends are obsessed with that perfume, Trav.
Starting point is 00:11:55 That's $300 less. So if I bought that for somebody, do you reckon they'd be able to tell? I reckon they would buy the packaging. No way. Oh, just by the smell. So Trav's just going to sneak up to his girlfriend in the morning and spray her and tell her it's Baccarat Rouge. Oh, yeah, babe, it's the expensive one,
Starting point is 00:12:11 but you have to put it on with your eyes closed. It doesn't work. The best. I love it. I am in a chemist's warehouse. Here I come. Hey, thanks so much, Bec. No worries, guys. Have a good day.
Starting point is 00:12:22 That is amazing. Speaking of awesome finds, we're going to do Facebook Marketplace trash or treasure. If you found some trash or better yet, some treasure, you can hit us up on She's On The Money socials. V, you love, you always send me little messages during the week and going, oh my God, look what Hannah from Blast sent me. Oh, look what you know. Oh my gosh, someone listed and this isn't what I'm going to put up there. But it was like someone listed this chip packet and I was so confused because it was like it's been touched by Nigel. And I'm like, who's Nigel?
Starting point is 00:12:50 And then you read the rest of the description. They're like, we know you don't know Nigel, but we're so confident he'll be famous one day that this should be worth $50. Like, what? I actually love people. That is what the internet is for. This is She's on the Money Radio Show. Mitch is going to be absolutely spewing.
Starting point is 00:13:08 He's going to miss this segment so much. It's one of his favourites. We're doing this right now. Yeah, we absolutely love trawling through Facebook Marketplace just to see what kind of incredible finds we might stumble across. Have you got a few good ones this week? Yeah, yeah. I've got a few to bring to the table myself.
Starting point is 00:13:25 It's not only the ones that are amazing. It's the absolute trash. Those people that go, oh, my God, this is the best thing ever, and they just try to absolutely hoodwink you with their crap. And you just go, why would anybody sell that? Because nobody's buying it. No, I'm obsessed with it. I love it.
Starting point is 00:13:42 It's the actual best. All right, you can hit us up at She's On The Money on socials if you've got any. But V, what have you got first? All right. So first things first, I have, so you know how sometimes people do hard rubbish and they put things like maybe ovens or like old couches or whatever out on their native stove? Or mattresses.
Starting point is 00:13:59 Yep. Or just like things that they clearly have decided they can't sell on Facebook marketplace. Well, this week I have for you a photo of a stove that has clearly been put outside with somebody else's like hard rubbish, but it's been dragged away. You can see the drag marks on the ground. Someone's taken a photo of it and they're trying to sell someone else's stove that was hard rubbish. How much are they selling it for, Trav? I mean.
Starting point is 00:14:25 He says not sure if in working condition. Right. So he hasn't even checked it out. He's literally put this on. On Facebook marketplace. He's just like done his rounds. Instead of picking it up, taking it home, flipping it and selling it, he's just selling it straight from where it is on the side of the road.
Starting point is 00:14:39 I'm impressed. Do you reckon he's probably just sitting out there camping in his car waiting until somebody comes along? Yeah, I reckon. I reckon, I don't know, businessman. I reckon probably $50. Yeah, it is actually $49, which I think is really good. My favourite thing about it, though, is on Facebook Marketplace, people can comment on your posts and they said,
Starting point is 00:14:56 is this even yours? And he said, no, could arrange transport. I love it. He's just gone, no, next question, go. No, it's not, but I am selling it. Moving on. Yeah, anyway, all right, this is amazing. Okay, so I'm going to read this verbatim
Starting point is 00:15:12 Because the caption is the best part of this. For sale, aged potato. What? Doesn't say how old the potato is. Can be used for a Halloween decoration or you can eat it. Full stop. I think. I think.
Starting point is 00:15:30 Serious inquiries only. So it's an old potato. You know how when you open up. Yeah, they go to sprout. Yeah, but no, this is literally like there's sprouts that are a meter long on this thing. You know how sometimes one falls down the back of your cupboard and you find it and it's purple and gross and stuff like that? Yeah, absolutely not.
Starting point is 00:15:50 Have a look at that. What do you think? That's gorgeous. That is very sprouted. In fact, I don't even know if I've got room in my kitchen for that. Would you eat it or would you use it as a decoration? I reckon that's definitely decoration. I think you'd get a little bit sick.
Starting point is 00:16:02 It looks like you'd get sick. I thought maybe it was too beautiful. Oh, yeah. That's what I meant. That's absolutely what I meant. What are you paying for that, Divine? Oh, $15. times it by four, $60.
Starting point is 00:16:13 Are you serious? Why would I pay $60 for a sprouted potato? Because it's one of a kind, mate, and it's beautiful. That's horrendous. I hate that. I can't get behind that. All right. The next one I've got for you, Mr. Trav Roebuck.
Starting point is 00:16:26 You might be interested. You are a gamer, right? So it's a black gaming chair. It has armrests on the side. I mean, if you're gaming, you really need to rest your arms? I don't know. The armrests are on the side. There is a suspicious white substance all over the armrests.
Starting point is 00:16:43 Yeah, no, no, no, no. But it's an ergonomic chair. It doesn't matter, mate. It's an ergonomic chair and it is for sale. How much? Originally, it was $700 for this gaming chair. I didn't know chairs could be so expensive. Oh, you can get ones that are like $2,000.
Starting point is 00:16:58 Are you joking? No, 100%. For a chair. Anyway, this was a $700 one, so maybe it was the budget version. for sale on Facebook Marketplace in New South Wales, if anybody would like that. How much are you paying for that, Trev? Absolutely zero.
Starting point is 00:17:11 You're not interested. This seller is hoping for a grand 80 bucks. Hang on. Oh, I thought you said a grand 80, like he was going up more. No, no, no, 80 bucks. 80 bucks. Sorry, mate. 80 bucks or whatever that thing is.
Starting point is 00:17:29 Yeah, it's in used condition. Yeah, no, not getting in my house at all. No chance? No chance whatsoever. Oh, I just thought this would be a really good one. No, let's mark that into the trash bin for this one. Okay, sorry, sorry. All right, if you've got a Facebook Marketplace trash or treasure finder,
Starting point is 00:17:42 you can hit us up on socials. Just search She's On The Money. Hit us up there. Yeah, every single week, Victoria, you give us some sneaky tips on how to keep some more bucks in our bank account. What you got for us this week, Divine? Well, you were telling me before during the break that you've got a sneaky tip, and I feel like it's not really a tip but like a lifestyle.
Starting point is 00:18:01 Oh, I kind of feel it's controversial, And people are either going to love it or hate it, and I'd love to see what you think about it. All right, let's get to mine first because that sounds like a way better hook than mine. Look, I've got the first things first. It is October, and in October, you guys don't know this, my insurance premiums come into my inbox and I have to pay them. No, I knew that. How did you know that?
Starting point is 00:18:23 Because we all know about it. Because I talk about that stuff all the time. Anyway, I pay on an annual basis, and often when your insurance premiums come in, you're like okay no worries pay it or put it off and then pay it a little later we all do it but what you shouldn't be doing and maybe budget direct aren't going to be too impressed with me with this one but budget direct always want to save their consumers money so they're going to love this call ask for a discount or review your insurances as to whether you need that much anymore i am always about negotiating because sometimes and budget direct haven't done this
Starting point is 00:18:54 to me but another insurance that i've got has gone up by 200 bucks that's crazy it's so much money especially right now while I feel like the cost of living is already insane took me two minutes I called them and said hey just want to understand the increase in premium and the woman on the phone was like oh yeah rising cost of living and I was like look I just don't think I can afford it is there any way you could match last year's and she was like let me put you through to our customer retention team two minutes later I was paying exactly what I paid last year for another whole year of cover I think that most people don't understand if you just call them then that's what they're banking on people are just going to cop it right but if you call them
Starting point is 00:19:32 they give you a really good deal like foxtel like if you go hey i don't want to pay this much they go oh okay what do you want to pay yeah and i'm like all right three dollars i feel like people feel bad calling as well but like the thing i always try to remember is i'm not calling the ceo no i'm calling someone just like me who happens to work in the call center and i go hey mate they're like yeah i totally get that let me put you through to someone who can help so i feel like there's two things. Ask, but also be kind. Because do you know what? They've got the power to say, nah, get stuffed. Exactly. I'm always nice about it. But the good thing is for the companies as well, it's like, even if you do pay a little bit less, you're going to stick with that company for
Starting point is 00:20:09 another five years. Whereas they might get an extra 200 bucks out of you, but you know what? You're going to change and they're going to lose the five years that you're going to pay. And customer retention is really important. It's better than acquisition. I always say that. All right. Exactly. So the next hot tip I have for you, Trav, you're not going to like, because it involves doing a bit more life admin. But I promise, promise, promise it will save you money. And that is, so last week we talked about that app that can save you money via the catalogs.
Starting point is 00:20:35 Oh, Half Price app. I actually downloaded that. Yeah, 10 out of 10 recommendation. But the other thing I will recommend is literally basing your meal plan on what is on sale in that app or in the catalogs. So last week I put them to good use and I actually flipped through
Starting point is 00:20:52 and realised there were a few things that I like on sale. So then I based what we were having for dinner on what was on sale and we saved a few bucks on our grocery shop, which I think is great. Amazing. Money win. Also, sneaky other tip, which I love, especially coming up to this Christmas season, their Christmas one isn't out yet,
Starting point is 00:21:09 Coles, and I'm sure Woolies does the same thing, they release the Coles magazine. You get it at the front. It's free. So many good recipes, so many great budget hacks and so many good entertaining meals, which is something I always get stuck with. So literally last year I was like, oh, yeah, here's this spread that I created,
Starting point is 00:21:26 and everyone was like, wow, but the reality of it was. You stole it. Yeah, I stole it from the Coles magazine. Work smarter, not harder. That's our mantra around here. Absolute genius. Now my tip, it's probably, I think it's more of like a releasing social pressures. I told you it was more of a lifestyle-y tip.
Starting point is 00:21:45 Yeah, so birthday cards, Christmas cards, any kind of card, stick them in the bin. What? I love getting cards. Okay, but the thing is, you're paying $6, $7, even up to $10. Yeah, no, no, no. I don't do that. We don't pay $10 for a card. Do you not get yours at the $2 shop? I mean, I've been to Big W before, but there's only so many that you can get. And my nieces and nephews have been getting the same Disney and, like, Spider-Man one for the past eight years. But just buy a pack of those little tiny 10-centimetre blank ones.
Starting point is 00:22:14 Oh, yeah. And just write, happy birthday. Love, Uncle Trav. And that costs you, like, $1.50. Done. Okay, I have another hack for you. Are you ready? It is also about greeting cards. Kiki K, post-Christmas, I picked up a whole heap of gift cards, 50 cents each. Amazing.
Starting point is 00:22:31 And sometimes if you're in store, have a little cheeky look at Kiki K. Along the bottom of their card section, they have the discounted ones. Amazing. See, I do that with Easter eggs. Monday comes, load my trolley up with those Easter eggs because they're all like a dollar each. I have a whole heap of Greek friends and they obviously celebrate Easter. later than the Easter that I celebrate. So they go and get all their stuff cheap.
Starting point is 00:22:53 Money win. I reckon all the Greeks back in like a thousand years ago, they absolutely did it. Hey, that's all we got time for.
