Starting point is 00:00:00 Maddie Safaya here, the host of Shortwave, NPR's new daily science podcast. We're coming to you Tuesday, October 15th. We'll explore groundbreaking discoveries that are in the news. Some scientists brought back brain activity in some really dead pigs. Really dead pigs. I mean, these pigs were dead for like four hours before scientists did this. We'll even deal with those complicated big picture things. Listen, I cover a lot of like big pollution-heavy industries as a climate reporter.
Starting point is 00:00:30 And shipping has something going for it that's kind of cool, which is that they have publicly acknowledged that they have a problem. They're dirty. That's the first step. Hi, I'm shipping. I have a problem. And I have a problem. And it is greenhouse gases. We'll take you everywhere.
Starting point is 00:00:45 Even outer space. Houston. Station, this is NPR. How do you hear me? We have you loud and clear. NPR. How do you hear us? Sound great. Hi.
Starting point is 00:00:59 This is Manny Safia. Thank you so much for taking time to talk to us from space. Very cool. And listen, we're not taking ourselves too seriously over here. With great power comes great responsibility. I did it. I quoted Spider-Man. I vowed I wouldn't, but I couldn't help myself. Well, that wasn't so bad. Like, I feel like I kind of understand nuclear fission right now. You kind of do. But hey, we can be insightful, too. That's a problem we have not yet worked out because everyone wants to cure these diseases and these kids, but we have not confronted the fact that if we actually succeed what it's going to cost and how we're going to pay for it.
Starting point is 00:01:30 and we're going to need to as the science progresses. We're going to do all of that in about 10 minutes, which is really just perfect for that daily commute. You know what I'm saying? So come hang out and subscribe now to Shortwave from NPR. All right. Is that all? Wait, I can try harder, but like not that much harder.
