Starting point is 00:00:00 Oh, welcome to the 40 for 40 preview of the 2025 Frisco Bowl. Let's start first by talking about what this game is not, the 2021 Frisco Classic, which replaced the San Francisco Bowl to keep a bowl eligible team from missing out is the definition of a participation trophy game. What this is, we're is the Miami Beach Bowl, which was played for three seasons, including the infamous Memphis BYU brawl game in the inaugural contest in 2014, before being sold and relocated. These are their terms, like those are things you can do with a football game
Starting point is 00:00:44 and relocated to Frisco, Texas. It is sponsored by Scooter's Coffee, headquartered in Omaha, billed as the second largest drive-thru coffee chain and fifth largest coffee chain in the United States, and I have never heard of it or seen any of it. outside of this game. Yeah, looking at, I'm sure we've done this before, but I needed a refresh.
Starting point is 00:01:05 Looking at their site, I'm not sure if it's anywhere but Nebraska. It doesn't have a wiki page or anything. Man, those roads must be pretty long for it to have. Maybe that's why they have room for all those drive-thrus, all those long winding country roads. Anyway, the Friscoe Bowl is one of 17 postseason college football games owned and operated by ESPN events derogatory,
Starting point is 00:01:25 but here is a hilarious lie on their website. has quickly become a launch pad for future NFL talent. Breaking football players on good teams that make the postseason tend to go on to the NFL. Incredible. I appreciate that it's almost cheeky, that kind of thing. You know what they say about the Frisco Bowl. It's a launch pad for future NFL talent. Supposed to be played in Toyota Stadium, by the way,
Starting point is 00:01:51 which is FC Dallas's home. That's being renovated. So this year we are at the obnoxiously named Ford Center at the Star. which is the Cowboys Practice Field. This game features UNLV versus Ohio, two teams that we have thought extremely high of at points during the season. We had Ohio, this is regular Ohio, Ohio Heavy,
Starting point is 00:02:12 tabbed as a national title, really winner earlier this season. And UNLV was really in there for the playoff scrap for a while there. Weirdly not opting out of this game, I have a list of one, Dan Mullen. He's still there. that's odd i am looking at the uh boca as a launching point for NFL talent sorry the frisco uh or sorry what did i say the boca uh uh um the frisco there is among the people who have one MVP on either side of the ball in this game there's some practice squad guys there's a current baltimore ravern who has
Starting point is 00:02:48 appeared in three games he's just a rookie so he'll perhaps play more um and then there is a meek Robertson of Louisiana Tech who played has played in 15 games for the Detroit Lions as far as I can tell oh excuse me excuse me he's been around for several years he's playing at 83 NFL games so Amic Robertson of the Detroit Lions is as far as I can tell the biggest NFL name who was ever won MVP in this game so I'm really not sure who else has been launched from it was like was like Ashton Gentie on the Boise State roster in 2022 like I guess I they did have this is interesting. This is also something I had never seen before. The bowl website has a chat bot. I did ask the chat bot, why is the Frisco Bowl dubbed itself a launching pad for NFL talent?
Starting point is 00:03:32 And I got a return message that said, looking into that, and then the page crashed. So Ashton Genty ran for 178 yards in this game. This might have been a bit of a, okay, yeah, that was his first year. So this was his first big, big performance, and it was in a game that more people would have watched than most of their previous game. maybe maybe maybe maybe the friscoe is hanging their hat on ad on gentee which is they don't mention that well yeah they they should probably maybe they that might be a rights thing like oh yeah they're like let's not be let's not be too cagey with this just say NFL talent
