It would help if my mic was plugged in.
Oh, we can take our time.
We're in no rush.
What?
What?
It's true.
What do you mean?
What is that?
What is what?
Holly, I have always sounded like this.
I'm so happy right now.
Especially since we got a complaint about the audio on After Dark.
I am fucking thrilled.
I love complaints.
People say that about me all the time.
Okay, this was actually a really interesting complaint.
The TLDR of it is that we have trained our audience's ears on what Serber's mix sound like.
The person, this thing that this person thought was a mistake just ended up being like server and not have different mixing styles.
But I'm kind of obsessed now with the idea that we've been doing this for so long that when,
somebody starts mixing it differently people pick up on it yeah like well the i think it's totally
within reason because oh yeah think of this think uh the jimmy miller period of the stones right
from beggars banquet through it's only rock and roll um those all have a very specific sound to them
they all sound very much like an arc of albums um and then as soon as they
they move off and Mick and Keith become their own producers, the Glimmer Twins, the sound of the
albums totally changes. And even before that, like the sound of the Andrew Logue Oldham stones,
it's like vast differences. This is exactly how I see the full cast is what I'm saying.
Ryan is our Andrew Logue Oldham, who we owe everything to in the beginning, right? And I have stepped in
as the Jimmy Miller,
although I'm not on heroin,
so I'm hoping to stick.
Can you get on,
yeah,
we need to work on that.
We need that.
Yeah.
Give me some heroin.
So,
anyway,
if you're wondering about this at home,
I will not,
I will not get into the complaint
because I,
it's fine.
But basically,
I think what we figured out was server,
you're running an analog compressor
over this that Nata was not,
right?
Yeah,
yeah.
Like,
because I have these,
I have this plug-in pack
that I use for.
for the music.
And one day I was like,
I wonder, you know,
instead of just using the in-the-box
stuff for audition,
if I used one of these cool plugins
and I used the 76-style plugin that I have,
which is like an iconic compressor.
And I was like, oh shit,
this sounds awesome.
Yeah, yeah.
There's one other program out there
that also gets this treatment.
And that's the server sound,
if I'm saying so myself.
If you want me to run your shit
through digitally,
through digital
what is it
emulated
analog equipment
I'll do that
but you got to pay me
yeah until then
until then
it's some Steve Albini shit
I turn on the mic
yeah
yeah
anyway that that was
this is the kind of shit
we talk about for fun
yes aren't you glad
you're here with us
the thing about the Steve Albini
I just turn on the mic thing though
is I turned the mic on
in a studio that has a rack
of the most iconic gear
in the entire
it's to make up the signal path between the microphone and the fader on my board.
I do think that's an important caveat.
This is what always used to drive me insane about people asking us,
and we've gotten a lot faster.
We've streamlined a lot in our workflow because we don't want to be up until 4 in the morning on Sunday
any more than we absolutely have to.
We are 40 or 50 years old and we do not need this.
But the number of people who were like, well, we shouldn't even edit,
full cast after dark you should just put it up guys you don't want that you don't want
no you really don't want that you don't know how much you don't know how much work it takes uh to get
uh to get this ramshackle thing happening in three different states at any given time up to even
uh up to even the baseline level uh that we've had anyway i hate it when people say just put
it up without editing as though it will make no difference to the show because i feel like it
devalues, I not feel like it does devalue our producers work.
So cut that shit out, but also it's very, it's very delightful to me that people are
passing this around.
Like, I don't want to make a fish or a Grateful Dead comparison because I like our audience,
but I like that we have those types.
Well, like, when you have a band that allows bootlegs or starts to allow bootlegs,
if you are a fan, you experience this.
You go, hmm, man, or if you see a band live, this sometimes.
happens. You go, man, I wish I could just, you know, tape what I'm hearing right now,
this concert, I hope, you know, because like, I want that experience for me. And then you get your
tape of it and you listen to it. And you're like, this sounds like fucking shit. Oh, my God.
It's like taking a picture on, uh, of the moon with your phone. If, yeah, if it, and if it puts
anybody's mind at ease, like, I do have the mindset of like with after dark. We need to put as much
of this that happened in there as possible. If I'm ever cutting anything out, I promise it's
for your benefit. It's not like to, it's, it's,
It's not to keep anything from anyone or like it's when we're cutting stuff out.
It's to make the show a better listen for you.
I promise.
I think we confess this at one point last year on AfterDart that every once in a while,
I know Ryan's done this a couple of times.
I know Serber and I have both done.
I know Serber's done this.
I've done this and I have asked Serber and Nodda to do this on our behalf.
Every once in a while, we will bleep stuff that's not really bleep worthy just to start shit.
Yeah.
because it's fun.
Yeah.
I might bleep that.
I might just be, yeah.
People know.
I have definitely, I have definitely said that on the show before.
Like, I think I've said that on After Dark before.
Yeah.
I was going to.
Or maybe it was Reddit.
I forget.
I have,
I have confessed this before that not all of our bleeps actually needed to be bleeped.
Yeah, like, for instance, like which FBS coach is actually seriously into heavy bondage.
I can tell you right now.
It's.
And.
honestly good for him.
You know what?
These are people who know what they want.
And that's important in a partner.
He's clearly communicating his needs.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's important.
Yeah.
I just appreciate it.
This isn't about Kirby given the photos that he was taking this weekend.
Every shot of Kirby is just like a-
Did you see this?
Did you see the post-game pictures of him in Golish?
Why does Kirby only take pictures that look like this?
If I just search Kirby,
and Golish, I'll
what, that's a
embrace. And Golish
is doing a lot there. Yeah.
Yeah. Now, Golish is
I don't want to be
over. Why does Kirby keep ending up in these clutches
man? It's great.
Kirby only, well, that's the thing. He gets
real close and he wants to do
the like, thank you for,
thank you for your good gladiatorial
combat, you know, warrior. Thank you.
Like, he's definitely big in.
to that and and other coaches either are or aren't and you can see that goalish here is on some
serious like when they won different coaches react differently when they upset people um golish
stone-faced like goalish obviously if you want to know who is a person who has been under
immense stress who had a moment where he felt good and didn't know how to process it that's
Alex Golish that's my Balkan boy right there that's right that's right cousin don't let him see you cry
Yeah, Comrade Golish there, obviously showing the signs of stress because something good happens,
and he's trying to keep his feet on the earth to stop from whatever emotion he's feeling at the moment, right?
Also, pretty sure he's looking at Kirby and he's like, I have no idea what I'm supposed to do here.
And Kirby's like I don't.
But when they get real close, it looks like a heated rivals kind of thing is happening.
Pleaded rivals, please.
Pleaded or cleated?
I think pleaded just because they're coaches.
Okay.
Right?
Because I only know of one coach who actually used to wear cleats, and that's Harbaugh.
And you don't want to, you don't want Harbaugh in that kind of situation.
Harbaugh and PJ, yeah.
Yeah, no.
Oh, man.
That sounds exhausting.
Yeah, that's a, like, there were relationships where you go, they really shouldn't be together for each other's good.
And then there are some you go for everyone else's good.
And that would be one of them.
I have not seen hate a rivalry.
Don't yell at me.
I'm just assuming this is what it's about.
Yeah.
I also wanted to ask a question to the two of you.
We have another scenario where in every championship we have to determine who's the best city.
And the World Series comes down to Milwaukee or Tampa.
The World Series of baseball?
Yes, baseball.
Did I realize that was still going on?
That is happening, apparently.
Wait, Tampa and Milwaukee are in the World Series?
That's gross.
It's so awesome.
Wait, why is this even a contest?
It's Milwaukee.
I agree.
I agree.
I just wanted to ask somebody else.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Server.
A hard one.
I don't know anything about this fucking World Series.
I know that I saw yesterday that these were the teams that were playing each other and thought, oh, what a disaster.
Is this also, listen, I know I'm not even a former baseball, apart from being a lifelong Red Sox fan.
I'm not even a former baseball.
history person like Spencer is.
Is this a scenario where this is going to lead to some truly irritating salary cap arguments?
Undoubtedly.
Undoubtedly.
Yeah.
This is sadly a win for the nerds.
Win for the nerds used to be good.
No,
it no longer is now because the nerds turned out to be evil.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You know, put the nerds in chart.
You know, you know the ones.
No, I don't.
It's baseball.
I don't know.
The spreadsheet guys, because when you put the nerds in.
nerds in charge, suddenly nobody can hit home runs. That's it. Nobody in baseball can hit anymore
because the pitching is so good because the nerds figured out that that was an optimal way to build
teams and now nobody can hit because, you know, home runs are very cool and steroids are awesome.
But unfortunately, the spreadsheet was like, nah, here's a more efficient way to do things.
I'm simplifying big time. Now that we've got the team building down to its most efficient metrics,
can we bring back steroids? I'm waiting. I am waiting. I am
Like, let's bring, let's make baseball great again.
Let's gas these dudes up.
The only defense that the non-nerds had was to bring in one player who could both pitch
and hit really, really well.
But even he can't hit really, really well now, it would appear.
Who are we talking about?
No, show him.
He can't hit.
Not in the postseason.
In the postseason this year, he had probably his worst stretch of his entire career.
I was, I will also say Milwaukee, because Milwaukee is delightful if you have not been
of Milwaukee. It's utterly fantastic.
Yeah, this seems easy.
Yeah, I'm not even going to, because
Tampa has the dumbest
fucking stadium, though.
And it feels like that
somehow works to their advantage.
Like, will it work to their advantage
that it's going to be 102 degrees
on the inside of that humid-ass thing?
Probably.
Like, it doesn't sort of an open roof
situation, right? That thing's from like
1978. No, and it's
supposed to be ventilated.
And I will tell you, like, most
buildings in Florida.
It is, but it isn't.
It feels ventilated.
It just feels like, it feels like everything else in Florida.
It feels like you're inside the air conditioner, not being air conditioned.
Yeah.
It's like you go to a wrestling thing there and you expect because it's there and it's a big
promotion.
It's going to be great and really, really.
But it's really the exact same experiences as it is in like a gym that doesn't have
air conditioning.
It's just bigger.
Yeah.
That is accurate.
also in Milwaukee you can do extremely fun things like
like go on a tasting tour at a brewery
which turns out to be a kamikaze water slide to hell
that's every like if you go like oh yeah let's just go
there's a bunch of breweries it'll be fun let's go to a tasting
these are not like the breweries that were used to gentrify
certain parts of your town they do not provide a thimble full of beer
if you go on a tasting tour in Milwaukee they're like have a beer
and you might lose a hand on the tour right
Yeah, you might, you might, you might, you might wake up in a, yeah, you might wake.
It's about to become the schnitzel special at the supper club.
You might find a hand.
That's also a possibility.
Oh, free hand.
Yeah, free hand.
Because remember, if somebody loses a hand, someone's got to find a hand.
That's a rule.
That's a true pay.
Yeah.
Like, uh, famously, uh, Milwaukee has the safe house.
I went to the safe house once.
I thought you were going to talk about a famous time where people found hands.
I know.
Well, Milwaukee does have a history with that if you want to talk about it, but I don't.
I'm Fred's hands.
That's my.
Can this just be the whole show?
Sure.
Wait, wait.
Is there a famous story about the walkie?
Jeffrey Dahmer.
Sorry, I was thinking like crime bosses.
Sorry.
No, I was thinking actual hands.
Sorry.
You want to come hang out with me?
Okay, but there was, there was, it wasn't, the hands weren't the star of the
show. There were a lot of parts. They were part of a cast, yes. It's an ensemble piece, really.
Yeah. We need a Jeffrey Dahmer for the left. To the shutdown full cast. You're listening to the
internet's only college football podcast. I am Spencer Hall. Giving me a hand today is Holly Anderson
and Michael Server. Ew. Ew. Gross.
We're all going to get clipped in the end.
We are, but I have terrifying news for you.
It is week eight of the college football season.
I knew I.
I looked that up.
Oh, okay.
I was going to see how long I can.
No, no.
You went so long this season without fucking that up.
I'm so proud of you.
It's pretty good.
It took me until week seven to really properly fuck that up.
Well, six, but.
You know, we disagreed on that.
But yeah, we are at week eight.
Proud of you, big guy.
Also, yeah, what the fuck?
Yeah, I'm not exactly prepared for it to be week eight, to be honest.
I know this isn't how it works anymore, but like mentally this season still breaks down as like a blocks in blocks of four, right?
This is still like a 12 week season, even though it's not.
And it is in fact further from a 12 week season every year.
But I'm like, we're two thirds of the way through.
What the shit?
Yeah, not prepared for it at all, not ready.
but you know what we're going to do it anyway um this was uh and yet in the middle of this
because college football has well you know i'd say well we're around for a third of the year
at most um a third of the year in terms of actual football if you boil down how much actual
football you get out of the season let's say 12 regular season games and like you know maybe 20
minutes of action counting that generously right you get 240 minutes of action you live you know like
if you're a fan you're pretty much basing most
of your happiness or sadness off of four hours, four hours of content, which, you know,
that may seem sad, but like there are nerds who get far less content and experience far more
angst over it. So don't feel too bad about that.
This is, and yet in the middle of it, we have to drop like some college football meta content.
Because remember, the rest of the year we got our, we got a bitch about like nothing or bullshit
or the bullshit that actually is the way we end up running this sport accidentally.
And that's, we have a 2014 playoff on the way.
And this dropped after we did the full cast last week.
Yeah.
And I'm still,
I want to talk about it.
I wanted to talk about it a little bit.
Okay.
Little bit.
Unpack the part where you think I'm full of shit.
I don't think you're full of shit.
I don't.
I've kind of.
You should quit saying things in ways that make it sound like you think I'm full of shit.
No, I don't think you're full of shit.
Okay.
I don't.
I am trying to balance two things here that.
I am, I, knowing what day it is.
And knowing what day it is.
I'm actually way better at balancing these things in my head than I am in knowing what day it is.
But I am trying to balance this.
One, I am trying to just discount my instant disgust at people being like, oh, something changed, which that's a me thing.
That's a mental hygiene thing.
You get older and you really don't want to fall prey to that and go like, oh, it's new.
I hate it.
Like, I don't want to do that.
and I realized I was kind of doing that at first
when I heard people who were unhappy about this
because you get older and you realize that like
most people will put their foot in that bucket happily
over and over and over again.
And you also realize that there are people,
hi, Stephen Goughrey, I'm going to use your phrase here.
In this industry.
Yeah!
In this industry.
That's right.
That's better.
Thank you.
There are people in this industry.
that?
Yes.
There are people in this industry
who will immediately
rush to that side simply because,
I don't know,
they know it's got gas, right?
They're like,
ah, these people are going to be unhappy about it
and I'll push it.
Not that I have to care about it.
This is the part where I think you need to show your work.
Are there?
So far, I've been surprised.
This is my...
This is the part that I don't think is true.
I don't think, I don't think,
I don't think
I think you're coming down
on a weird side of this.
Like,
this is kind of like,
I don't know,
this,
every time you've brought this up
for the past week,
it is kind of hitting me
in the same way of
there is a boot
coming down from the sky
to crush a forest floor full of bugs.
And you're like,
man,
fuck those bugs.
I am not on that side of it.
Yeah.
I keep picking it this,
because I don't understand.
I don't understand why you hear of a development
that is objectively going to make things worse
for everybody who doesn't own a television network
that has a cartoon mouse as its mascot
and a couple university presidents.
And you're immediately like,
oh, people who are just made about this
are so fucking annoying.
That's real weird from you.
I am trying to,
not to do that. Because the problem that we have in this industry is not this particular thing that was
whoever, I don't even know who it was set you off on this. But since when do we not have the industry
problem here on the other side, which is breathlessly and uncritically reporting that we're about
to have a 2014 playoff with nobody digging into what this means for labor or the customer base.
Why are we annoyed by the people who are dismayed by this?
Preemptively for some shit that's not related to football at all on my part.
Okay.
That is my, yeah, because I don't want to be, how's this?
I don't want to be nostalgic.
Okay.
And I'll tell you that because.
Right, but I think the reflex to that, you're on a weird side of this that I've never seen you be on before.
And I'm trying to understand it.
Well, my conclusion, I think, is something that you'll go, oh, yeah, that makes sense.
How I get there, as usual, doesn't really make a whole lot of sense.
No, I think how you get there is kind of the everything right now, because I'm, like, I've been baffled by everything you've said about this in the past week.
We've never had a good way to end the season.
Like endings are, like, we've never had a good way to end a season.
And that is because...
The sports not set up for that.
No, it's not set up for that.
It's not built for that at all.
It's dumb that.
we have this as a goal. Yeah. Yeah. And it's very, it's, I agree with you there. Yeah. And it's funny to me
because a lot of the things that are considered, um, either sacrosanct or highly valued from this
are not even that old. Some of them are pretty new. Like one of the big critiques here is they go,
oh, well, one of the critiques is, well, this is going to, um, this is going to extend the season.
I don't seem, I may remember people being upset by there being 32 bowl games. And,
or whatever, you know, in extending the season, wait, I'm not done through 30 through December and
then like into January and then into the first week of January and now we have a playoff that
stretches damn near till February, right? I don't remember people really regarding conference
championships as being that important or valuable. These are those things I find confusing.
I also find confusing the notion that 24 is a necessarily superior way to do.
do anything here.
I don't like the idea of having a college football national champion is still weird to me.
You're still like when people win this,
like Indiana is the reigning invitational championship because that's an invitational.
That's what it is.
It ends the season.
And do I like it?
Do I think it's better than what we had before?
I know.
I don't.
Like I don't think it's,
I don't think it's better because,
because I don't find, I didn't find it satisfying.
Like I did like if you want to know the actual reason of like, okay, why don't you like the
playoff?
It's like I haven't seen a whole lot that I have found utterly essential about how this goes.
Did I find that in the bowl season?
No.
And especially with the portal and especially with NIL and freedom of labor.
You get bowl games that mean nothing and then you get bowl games that mean less than
nothing.
And then you get bowl games that are essential.
glorified jamborees at the end of the season.
They don't feel important.
They don't feel particularly fun.
And the experiences that they provide are, as Holly has pointed out in the past,
increasingly more anonymous, especially the ones that are produced exclusively for TV.
So how do I feel about a 24 team playoff after thinking about it for a week?
Which I'm glad I had like a week to think about it.
Because my initial reaction was to just be like, I don't know if you should like reject this out of hand.
strictly because I don't want to be the old like coot sitting there going all right this is
bad because it's new I think there are a lot of other reasons why it's bad right does that take you
far enough into my thinking no not at all okay it doesn't have to it's okay because you know because you
had you had all these thoughts but everything that you've said from the past week is directed in
derogatory fashion at the people who are also not into the idea of a 2014 playoff.
Yeah, it's one of those things where I was like, I don't know, I don't trust myself to
evaluate it emotionally.
I don't.
Critically, I think I can get there.
But like emotionally, if, if you go, how would you end the college football season?
I would just say, listen, fuck it.
Like, it, like, I don't.
I think we, yeah, I have a completely.
completely, yeah.
Yeah.
I think I'm annoyed in a way that Spencer is, but maybe for a different reason.
I haven't directed that at anyone, but it is just that like, I don't think that the 24,
I don't think we're like trending in a different direction.
Like, this feels like a lateral move to 24 teams.
I, like, the annoyance is like, well, okay, yeah, but we, like, being mad about it isn't doing
anything. It's going to still grow. It's almost like the eventuality is that the or the thirst from like
not the majority. And I don't think the majority of what people want is what's driving any of these
decisions, which is a problem. I don't see. I just think like the what people actually want to see is
like someone who's supposed to be successful fail. And the more we open this up, the more
that seems more attainable. Do you know what I mean? Like no one, everyone, everyone,
liked seeing Indiana win last year, but it was, it felt not really because Indiana hadn't won before.
And I'm not talking about our weird corner of the universe. I'm just talking about the laymen's,
the people who came in and watched the national championship. They rooted for Indiana because
they wanted Miami to fail because they're like, ah, Miami, the all powerful without the context
of like, Miami's been really shitty for a while. I think that like within the, within all the
very valid reasons, which I think most people in our corner and that I've seen are shouting about,
they're not talking about the, those people are not complaining with the, in a way that they
didn't also complain about the eight team playoff or the 12th team playoff, not making a ton of
sense or being a huge improvement.
Like, I'm annoyed at talking about it because there's nothing, we have no control over
this.
And I guess I'm not annoyed at the people.
I'm annoyed at the prospect of having to continually
like justify why I think this is a bad idea
and no no go ahead
I'm really curious to hear your take on it Holly
I just like to me I can't oh because I because I'm so
apathetic I think is the real like emotion that I'm drawing
like I just think this is a chance for people to laugh at
like like we everyone is delighted
that Texas is floundering.
And like a 2014
playoff
creates more circumstances
for more Texases
to get nipped in the bud.
And I think that's what they want.
But the end result of it
is actually going to be
more Texas is having more opportunities
to win national championships
and less parity
because I don't think that
like this opens the door
for a bunch of teams.
Like there's going to be
stupid shit involved
in the selection process.
Like there's,
teams are going to be judged on different parameters like they are now like all the problems we have
now continue to exist so it's not fixing anything i also don't really feel like it's making anything
worse um and i'm yeah apathetic i'm i'm rambling now this because i am just so kind of like
exhausted with yeah i mean it's going to the american and now we're expanding the playoff again
and it's it's not that it's new it's just that like i don't know when i when do i get to settle in
to settle into what college football is.
I didn't have a problem with the BCS,
and I understand that's probably because of my age.
I also didn't have a problem with the 14 playoff.
And after not wanting the 12th team playoff,
now that it's here, the world didn't end.
And I think that same thing's going to happen
with the 2014 playoff, but it's just
the things that I want to happen in the sport
are the things that no one wants to happen.
Like, I don't know.
Let's just only play conference opponents
and like make these games much more interesting
because like I don't really
fucking want to see Texas and Ohio State in the regular season. You want to make that game matter.
Make it actually fucking matter. And so I don't think that stuff is going to happen. I don't think
anyone's forcing the hand in the regular season, which is where the focus should be, because that's
where the issues are. Like Clemson playing Charleston Southern in week seven so Charleston Southern
can make a bunch of money because of state law is cool for Charleston Southern. But like, I don't
know. What if we just broadcasted FCS games better? Like, it's not like, it's not like. It's not
It's not like we're jonesing for these fucking two and six Big Ten or ACC teams on the networks.
I don't know.
Just I guess I'm annoyed that like this is not the major problem in college football, the playoff.
If that's what you're so angry about.
So it's really interesting that you said that last part about we should just broadcast
FCS games because Spencer and I are working on something for Channel 6 for two or for this week,
next week?
Yeah.
Spencer, do you want to lay that out?
Yeah.
It's interesting that you say that serves because we kind of independently arrived at exactly
the same conclusion.
Yeah, which is that we should just go watch FCS ball.
Yeah.
Like ultimately, ultimately a lot of the things that you want out of the sport are still
present at the FCS level.
And this plays into, and Holly, this was what I was thinking about this morning when I was
like, okay, well, what was it? Like, why? How do I really feel about this? And it's, there are larger
issues here that, that poisoned the notion of a 2014 playoff for me. And this is the biggest one.
It is the biggest one. And it is one that affects the regular season. It affects everything about
this game down to the middle school level. And it's this. We are extending the, we're extending the
series of interactions in a sport that increasingly does not resemble a sport people can actually play.
You can't.
Like basketball, you can take, like five on five, three on three.
You can line up anywhere and with a ball.
You can play at soccer.
Soccer can happen in a thousand different ways.
And it can happen in the street.
It can happen on a field.
You can play something that is a simulacrum of soccer or a variation of soccer in any way.
You can't do that with football.
And the NFL knows this.
How do you know this?
Look where they're putting their money.
That is correct.
Where they put in their money, Holly.
flag.
That's right.
Like, oh, that's the few.
All age levels, all gendered flag football programs.
Amanda Mull spent the summer at, I want to say, a Patriots flag football camp and had a
great piece about it in Bloomberg last week.
You should go check it out.
There's a gift link that she posted floating around on blue sky, but it's, uh, it's, uh, yeah.
Sorry.
Go back to whatever you were saying.
Yeah, but that's the future of the sport and the NFL knows it.
And because nobody runs this sport, the NFL comes as close as anyone to setting a map for the future of the sport.
They know it.
Liability-wise, it's not going to be a burden that they can bear.
So they're already planning for the future.
And by the way, doubling their audience by promoting flag football for women.
And their customer base.
Oh, 100%.
Sorry, not their customer base, they're athlete base.
Yeah, their potential pool for athletes doubles.
Yeah, because when we were kids, what was the NFL throwing all of its money into Pop Warner?
The Pop Warner Football Organization.
That's right.
That was their feeder system.
That's right.
And it's a challenge that college football, because of its nature and because of the way it's laid out, that very few people have even bothered to try to address.
Like, it is 2026.
We are decades past the exposure of.
of the discovery of chronic traumatic encephalopathy.
We are decades past like studies and studies and studies that have shown that repeated subconcussive hits are just as bad over a long enough time frame at the line of scrimmage.
We're well past that.
And these are sports that these are things that to this point, the sport has decided to bear legally.
I think at a, like, and this is why the 2014 playoff is insane to me because you're doubling.
that exposure for some teams at the highest level.
You know, like I'm sure it's like the NFL, if you've had the nerds, the NFL
crack this, they don't want a 2014 playoff at all because that's limiting the, that's limiting
the lifespan of players and their usefulness in the NFL.
That is a cold calculation, but I am sure it is one that at the margins, someone in
that office has gone, huh, that's probably not great.
That is something that you have to think about.
It's also how you can tell there's nobody in charge of this sport really or there might have been a
heavier hand on the scale there.
Right.
Right.
So I don't like that we are making a bigger platform on a more impractical level schedule-wise,
logistics-wise.
On a personal note, it's going to be a pain in the fucking ass to cover because not only
because it's going to happen over the part of the year.
The first round of it before Christmas, like completely fucked up.
If you have split families across multiple states and you're trying
like, you know, this is not a hardship.
I'm not fucking mining gold.
But like, we already don't get Thanksgiving with our families.
We already don't get New Year's with our friends.
And playoff round one, like, pretty much eliminated my ability to do Christmas with my family.
And I don't even have little kids.
So, it's a pain in the dick.
It's like, the job's awesome.
But like, that is a pain in the dick.
But everybody involved in all these games, you know, they don't get to do holidays with their families either.
And for what?
it's way worse.
It's way worse for them on top of everything else.
But in addition to that, we're doing it for,
we're creating an increasingly mutated variation of this sport that you can't even play
with your kids like that.
And that, taking that and making this 2014 playoff on top of all that and then taking
the root of the sport, right, which has already been distorted by the arms race between
major conferences, somebody will say, oh man, listen, you can't just blame the Big Ten for, you
going full spreadsheet, full min-max on this and deciding that the way to do this sport is to just
line things up by television market and craft a league around that, okay?
Because the SEC expanded first, fine.
I don't give a fuck.
That is fine.
Okay.
The SEC is at least somewhat honoring the notion that this has to be a geographically
contiguous thing, right?
This is how we have dumb debates like, is Oklahoma the South.
Okay, well, it's next to Arkansas, and it's at least like got some southern stuff and it kind of like is adjacent to that, right?
that is all a diversion, right?
Like, that is all a diversion.
We have an increasingly distorted sport that the playoff in itself will further distort
in the name of people and stakeholders who don't care and can't care.
I say they can't care because they're so distal,
they're so distantly removed from the actual assets, players, people involved,
that they can't possibly care whether it's good for them or not.
This is just an exchange.
It's a distortion of capitalism.
It's the kind of thing money does.
It twists arms and twists arms and twist arms until the body itself is no longer recognizable
and then calls it a success.
That is ultimately why I don't like it.
I don't like the 2014 playoff because it's extending the, it's extending the valuation
and extraction of value from the sport in a manner that ultimately,
not as if the sport wasn't already in trouble,
in terms of like pool and participation,
but it's not going to encourage a solution either.
That's why.
Because I care about the sport.
I think it's an awesome sport.
I don't think it should,
I think it should be something that you might,
in theory,
be able to play at one point, right?
And if you want the version of the sport
that's probably closest to that right now,
you know, it's flag.
But if you want a sport that you can watch on TV,
then you'll have to take FCS because FCS is probably the one where you go, oh, okay, you should do that.
Am I going to keep watching FBS football?
Yeah, obviously.
I will.
But that sport itself is moving further and further away from anything that you could not only recognize as a thing that was a big, important factor in your life,
it's moving further and further away from what looks like a game.
Dominique Foxworth was the one who really put me on this because Dominique, who again, played at Maryland.
He was an FBS scholarship athlete, played in the NFL.
Okay, he was on the Ravens, had a long career there and up with the Broncos.
You know, he's the one who says that football is the only sport we play where you can't play it.
That's something that he's very good at doing is putting something very simply that puts a spike in whatever bullshit you were thinking.
That's it for me is that we play something that no one can play or would want to play.
I also always do what Felder in a similar way changed my mind when he was like he got to stop looking at this thing like a sport.
This is a television show.
Like this is people's favorite TV show.
Yeah.
They like television and this is their favorite TV show.
But one thing that I've thought about recently about what is lacking for me in college football right now.
And I think for others too, this clearly we're not the majority is this is a very similar thing to wrestling and what happened.
in the late 90s, early 2000s for wrestling.
Now, one of the main problems for late 90s, early 2000s wrestling is the content of the promos and such,
the over-sexuality of the wrestlers, the straight of sexism.
Like, a lot of that shit was just frankly uncalled for.
The thing, though, was in the ring, the wrestling was at its peak, some of the best it's ever been.
But this is also, like, with the stuff that was happening in promos and also with the stuff
that was happening in the ring.
Everyone one-upping each other.
It's called hot-shotting.
And you can hot-shot yourself right out the fucking door.
You know what I mean?
College football has gotten to the point now
where they have hot-shotted themselves into,
well, what else can we do?
They are in the,
they are just like fucking, you know,
James E. Cornett and Bruce Richard and Vince McMahon
in the fucking boardroom.
Well, what do we do now?
Well, I guess she'll give this old lady
will give birth to a hand.
You know, like,
I guess we'll do a 24 team
playoff.
And I
wrestling never got better
and I just don't think
college football is going to either
as they continue to just try to hot shot themselves
from the last one.
Whereas I think back to like
yeah we didn't know how to end seasons before technically
but god damn if it didn't feel like the season was over
when it was over
and it didn't feel like the season was back on again
for several months until the fucking Athlon
magazine came out.
or something like that.
You know, like, actually we had this nice little reprieve in February
where it's like, oh, remember this sport?
Yeah, we'll talk to you about it in five months.
And, but I do feel the nature of it becoming as popular as it is
and breaking a little bit of contained from the Midwest and Southeast.
Or also just becoming the biggest thing in the Midwest and Southeast.
They've worked, yeah, they have hot shot of themselves to death.
and now there is nowhere to really go.
We are at a plateau.
Everything has happened.
Players are getting paid.
There's nowhere else to go there other than it seemingly seems like to restrict how much they can fucking get paid.
I was going to say we could pull a classic American act, which is you have money.
Oh, that's not good.
But like there's nothing else to attain there, right?
Players are getting fucking paid.
Hell yeah.
That's good.
Well, there's nothing else we can do there except make a different shittier story out of it.
You know?
All these teams get a chance to win a national championship.
Well, the only thing you can do is then give more teams a chance to win national championships.
It's, it won't, like, this is the, we're now talking about the problems with capitalism.
Yeah.
Again, my favorite thing, which is you should really keep politics out of sports.
And I'm like, full agree.
I'd love to.
It's not really possible.
It's kind of like, hey, it'd be cool if you didn't have to eat and shit.
Yeah.
but you're here and that's that's something you have to do and it's going to affect everything.
But by all means, pretend like you don't.
That would be good.
I want to die.
I think that's where I've landed after thinking about this for a week, right?
After just having kind of a temper tantrum about what I thought about this at first and then realizing that I was like, oh man, I'm upset about so much more than this.
I'm upset.
I'm upset because
I'm upset because this should be fun.
And increasingly there are parts of it that make fun completely impossible
if you think about it too long.
We should just go watch FCS football.
We should just, yeah.
Go Furman.
Furman.
Fun.
I made my choice.
That was quick.
My high school football team, the four Bush Falcons, are low.
is the Furman logo, it's just red and blue.
Well, it's cursed, actually.
It's either the Furman F logo or the Atlanta Falcons falcons.
No, no, no, nope, nope, no, firmin.
Just do Furman.
I'm going to steer you the fuck away from that.
Yeah.
And also, I learned to ride a bike on the campus of Furman University.
Like, I was struggling to learn to ride a bike the first couple, like, goes.
Like, I could ride it, but I was still falling.
The first time I got on the bike and, like, never fell was at Furman.
And I was like, that was very little.
Won't he do it?
Four or five, yeah.
Yeah.
So I have a close tie to the palatins for that.
Also, there was a cup when I was a kid that I liked.
It was a paladin cup.
That's good.
My, my FCS fandom is completely up for grabs.
So I'll have to think that, you know.
Rattlers.
Rattlers?
Yeah.
They're pretty strong.
Yeah.
They got the sickest, like, color combo, too, that bright orange with the snake,
the reptile green.
Yeah.
Yeah. Also, like, in high school, we used to try to fam you step poorly.
Very poorly.
So I don't know.
I could either that or Southern.
Southern, I might be kind of, I might have to do Southern.
Yeah.
Yeah, because let's be honest.
I'm just going to be there for the band.
It's fine.
That's like over half the crew there.
Did we ever talk about, speaking of Division 2, FCS football,
did we ever talk about on the show, Winston-Salem States football field?
Did you guys see this?
Did I send it to you?
The guy, the guy.
The guy who was freestyling the yard markers.
You know, I got to thinking about it later on and forgive me for not knowing the poster who made this perfect sense to me.
But like, those aren't fucking important.
Those lines aren't that important.
Like the ones in the middle are way more important.
Those are kind of just for theater, right?
Yeah.
Come on.
I watched these fucking line judges curve their ass in every fucking time they run in a spot.
I mean, I will say this, like most things, you get what you pay for.
I bet that guy, I bet he was, I bet, no, go paint some lines.
And he's like, well, you're about to get zero dollars an hour worth of lines, buddy.
If I'm not mistaken, Bowman Gray is owned by the city and he was not wearing like city employee clothing.
So he was 100% of volunteer.
Yeah, that's a volunteer.
Or just a coach who was like, well, we need to do this.
you're going to get some volunteer ass lines is what you're going to get out of that yeah
100% it looked like if you asked prince to design the hash marks the way he wanted to not like i want
to make clear prince a minnesota viking superfan knows what the the hash marks are supposed to look
like the lines are supposed to look like on a football field and he would measure them if told to do it
properly but if you told him give it your vibe that's exactly how they would look yeah yeah um
I fully support this guy, by the way.
As somebody who believes in the value of labor.
I see the value of labor being exercised there.
Also, they're not that important.
And also, who am I to say what linear time or linear space should be?
Right?
He's actually, look at it this way.
On a projection, those curved lines, actually straight.
It's like, you know, great circle theory.
And he is, like, no, plenty of people saw him.
him doing this and did nothing about it because the video that was recorded everyone is laughing
and clearly has been laughing for some time and he is across the 50 at like the 40 yard line
yeah most of the field at this point yeah and nobody's doing anything about it nobody's being a
friend damn it nobody's intervening and saying hey listen i can help so i also wondered if to him he
thought it was straight because boom and gray stadium for those that don't know is also a race track on
Saturday nights throughout the spring and summer.
I did wonder if the field is a little fucked up from races still,
like if they didn't sod it properly.
And maybe there's just some tire marks there that were making it.
He thought it was straight,
but his debt perception was just a little thrown off.
And that's,
that's possible.
He's like curving around what is like a divot put there by some school bus
demolition derby that took place.
Yeah.
Live in the figure eight.
Have you?
ever seen a banked track it's like it's a flat track it's a flat track oh perfect for school bus that's awesome
yeah i want them rolling school i've seen these school bus things they don't do these at pome and gray
why not we used to do something called skid plate races oh yeah yeah yeah um but the drivers complained about
what that was doing to the surface and then obviously when nascar did the two clash races that shit
wasn't gonna so they've stopped doing the they don't do those and it's and seemingly i don't think they're doing the
chain races as much anymore either, which are really, really good. Do you know about the chain
races? I don't know what a chain race is. I've seen a school bus demolition derby in person at Sunshine
Speedway in St. Pete, Florida. And let me tell you, what a thrill. What a fucking vibe. There
wasn't a person in that place that wasn't like, this is the greatest thing I've ever seen in my life.
Holly, I'm assuming you know what chain races are. Have you seen them before? Okay. So, Spencer,
a chain race is you have one car in the front. That car has the gas, all right? And no brakes.
and he is chained
or they are chained to the car behind them
with chain which has
with actual chains
with like yeah the frame is chained
to the other frame and the car behind them has no gas
but breaks
and the last
the last two
the last two cars
to remain without breaking the chain
are declared the winners
of the chain race
they're awesome
shit I've ever heard of in my life
I want to watch it so bad.
Yeah.
So for those that aren't familiar with a car, it's incredible.
Yeah.
For those that don't have a small town racetrack,
because I don't think this is even limited to the south,
the like gimmicky stuff at the end of the short track stuff.
Oh no, they used to run this shit in like Modesto, I want to say.
Yeah, 100% this feels like California, New York shit too.
The, at the end of these short track series,
like when you go to these short tracks on a Saturday night, folks,
there's multiple races.
stock cars, some have modified, some run like classic, like, what are they called, the Dill
Jr. runs and shit, late model series and stuff like that.
And then at the end of the night, the big finale is always like a demolition derby, monster
trucks, the chain races, skid plate races, school bus race, like all this dumb shit.
And it's how they get people to stay the entire time and drink and buy more concessions
because they put the obvious coolest thing at the very end because frankly,
The racing at these small tracks is typically not that great because it's hard to pass because the surfaces aren't good.
There's usually like one groove.
If it's a flat track like Bowman Gray, like the racing's not extremely entertaining.
It's like the wrecking that's entertaining and like the petty bullshit that happens that's entertaining.
But you stay for the good shit that happens on the track, which is at the very end.
That's incredible.
That also describes,
I try to send you a video of some chain races.
Man, that also describes like a bunch of successful musical collaborations that I know.
One person's got all gas.
The person's all breaks.
Hall of notes.
And together they are all notes.
Together they are MGMT.
Private ice.
Together they are outcast.
You go on, get the hell on you and your mama.
One guy is from outer space and the other one is having serious relationship problems.
This is outcast.
The other one is running up to quick trip.
You need any.
thing. Yeah. And you know, he's probably going to
probably going to meet a lady there. Is the lady his
lady? That's not your business. Unless it is
in this song. Yeah. That's
the greatest thing about Outcast is that period where like
they're both 22 and they're both having old man problems of an
entirely different sort. Yes. Like one of them is like, I'm trying to
understand reality before I don't have a chance to understand reality. Life is
so short and I'm experiencing such, you know, existential.
angst at both the beauty and horror of the world.
And the other one is like, I am old,
and these women are giving me trouble because
I am trouble. I am having serious familial
problems all of the time. And I'm going
to do nothing but right about it and how
it's hard doing this and taking care of my children.
And they're like 23.
And they're both like 23 going on
58. So you're a father's son duo, you say.
No, no, no, no, no. No, no, no. Just two
different kinds of stressed old men, right?
one who's like, I have an important question for my pastor because I'm thinking a lot.
And the other one is like, I need to save my marriage before 5 p.m.
Yeah, that's outcast.
We need to do chain races somewhere in North Carolina because that feels like church.
Yeah, it really is.
I'm encouraging you to come to visit Winston-Salem only to see Bowman Grace Stadium.
Yeah.
Oh, 100%.
I have another question, which is this.
I was looking like after writing the top, whatever, which you know, we'll tell you all about in our upcoming podcast business segment.
But I was looking through, you know, you go look through the standings and you look teams and you go, huh, what is like week eight?
What does that usually mean when you're talking about getting through the season?
Friends, I can tell you what it means.
What it means is this.
Some teams are done.
You may not think, you may not think they're done.
they're done. There are some teams that are done and they're done on a level like steaks,
like meats. They all cook at different rates. And sometimes they overshoot that target. And I will tell
you that I had this thought, yes, primarily about Texas that if Texas lost two games this year,
they're pretty much toast. And you say, what if they don't lose another game? Well,
friends, they play old miss this coming weekend. And that seems bad because old miss is
really playing very well right now. They just pasted
Mazoo. They have Trinidad Chambliss. I know because he's not entirely
shiny and new. You might have forgotten that. Trinidad Chamblis is not only
still in the league. He is smoking people. And they're also just playing
really well overall. Old Miss is very dangerous. Texas does
not look dangerous. Texas just lost to an extremely not dangerous Florida team
who managed to get them to slip on multiple banana peals at home.
even Florida's coaches weren't that impressed by this
the most telling thing was post game like
hey man what do you think for your team and they're like a lot of effort
a lot of effort they're like did they play really well
and they're like no man have we made a lot of mistakes
John Somerall
John Somerall does this weird thing where he won't sugarcoat it
at all but he'll kind of make it sound positive
it's a weird trick he'll be like oh man
just really glad they kept fighting right
what were they fighting mostly themselves
mostly themselves
We talk about the greatest adversity you can overcome, and that's you, your greatest enemy.
That's pretty much where Florida is at right now, and they still manage to beat Texas.
Texas, who was, what, preseason top five, Texas, who had every single bit of hype and expectation going to this season.
And they have already dropped two games before Halloween and are looking like a team without a lot of answers.
And yeah, without Colin Simmons, because he's going to be out a couple of weeks and he's the best player on the team.
It's really unfortunate about them in LSU.
just too. I know.
Is that who you would pick is like already kind of cooked?
Like already kind of having to do a live rewrite on the fly.
Yeah, like there's time to put it back on the road.
But like both wheels are there's two wheels firmly off.
Like I wouldn't I would not.
Well, neither one can actually be perfect from here on out.
So one will kill the other for sure.
That's the thing.
But then like Holly.
maybe LSU kills Texas and then could Tennessee please just kill LSU?
That would be great.
Buddy, we have a bigger problem before we can even get there.
But I appreciate the confident.
I would love to do that.
I would love to kill them.
Tennessee has a letdown spot before we even get there.
And I got to tell you, there's one place in the country where I want to have a letdown game less than any other spot.
Do you know where we're going this weekend?
Oh, fuck, you're going.
Why are you going to Columbia again?
What are you doing out there to Tennessee?
Well, you know what happened last time.
Help!
I know it's right here, but damn.
How's it 52 degrees, but also 98!
I take it back.
I don't want the regionality back in the sport.
Watching the heartbreak just light on your face right then was, oh man.
Anyway, it's a beautiful spot for just a complete letdown face plant.
But then here's the thing.
Even if we do go into South Carolina and just get mauled to death by a series of lightweight aluminum crowbars,
that doesn't mean that we can't kill LSU.
Yeah, I know.
Listen, I know a lot of people have a problem with the SEC being a crab bucket this season.
I'm enjoying myself immensely.
I love crabs.
crabs are delicious yeah like you'd think that'd be an ac c thing but you know turns out
in our defense we only think that's an acc thing because they do it every goddamn year forever
and it's it's again the reason why it's one of our finest football leagues
apart from their history and actions there's nothing to suggest that they do this
and our perfect grandparents mister and this is ac c that's right they can tell you all about it
Grandpa, tell us about the time.
If he hasn't died by now.
Boston College went to the ACC Championship game.
But I will, I will give up, listen, I would give up, I would give up a win at South Carolina this weekend.
I would even give up tanking LSU for the specter of, I'm going to say it again just because I, I, I, I, I, I, savor it in the mind.
a Texas A&M anxiety bowl.
I know what I'm going to be thankful for.
Podcast business?
Yeah, we should do podcast business
because I don't want to talk about Oregon.
Podcast business.
What's that business?
Podcast business.
It's a business.
Podcast business.
They're four and two.
Oregon is not real good because all their coaches left
and then their quarterback didn't work out.
Welcome to podcast business.

Let's never do a podcast without Autotune again, ever.

That's right.
Me and Holly, we do every single week.
Two things a week.
That is the sole promise of Channel 6.
That is the newsletter that we produce year round.
Not just for college football.
Of course we're writing a lot about college football right now.
That's channel dash 6.ghost.io.
You can check out our weekly ranking of teams that we just,
rank what we want to rank this week. I just ranked things that I were fun to hate on.
And you'll be surprised. Hey, number one was our most cook team at the moment, Texas.
But I ranked a lot of other things, including some actionable threats against an insurance
mascot because I can't think or stop thinking of ways to harm, maim, cook, or otherwise
destroy bivety. I like it when you said you were going to put him in a big green egg and
babysit him like a brisket. That's right. That's right. And then I'm going to throw him away without
even eating him because I bet he tastes like shit.
That's right.
You can get these thoughts and more including yes, access to our pregame show.
Hey, you don't watch Game Day anymore.
Neither do we.
We do a show.
You should go ahead, subscribe and come by because we do nothing but answer your questions.
We do almost everything but answer your questions.
That's true.
But we do sometimes answer questions but are very entertaining nonetheless.
We are also, again, picking games according to the stars with the help of Jamie.

can't beat that shit hey one other fun thing from ancient history
Oregon was number two in the free season polls.
That's wild.
I wonder what's happened to them since.
Yeah, it's crazy, man.
I think we should look at the schedule as we do every single week.
Look at the schedule.
I'm going to go ahead and bypass the Tuesday games,
which, of course, we already know what happens because we record on Tuesday.
Middle Tennessee at Florida International.
Congratulations, MTSU on a win.
Missouri State at Delaware, Blue Hands Forever.
And South Alabama at Marshall, South Alabama.
was going to drop nuke's on marshal i need to put some respect on uh willie simmons name as f i u waltz
i did that last you don't just waltz into pit bull stadium all right spencer hall and have a
real good time not in win a game if you're mitsu that's right um i think it's going to be a tough one
but last time i said nice things about f i u and their defense they allowed you know like 17 points in
the first half after allowing like none most of the season so i'm going to do them a favor and it
ignore them and see how they do.
Thursday, we do have a couple of entertaining games.
We have James Madison at App State.
James Madison at App State is going to be a blast.
Someone's going to end up sliding down the mud in the end zone.
East Carolina at Memphis.
Am I saying, is this good football?
Is it going to be entertaining?
100%.
Memphis is coming off of a six turnover game.
Let's see if they can give us seven.
Friday.
Fridays have been okay.
Like Friday's like Friday's like last Friday was a was like solid.
I would give it like B to B plus period.
And that's not this Friday because Duke at Virginia is about it.
There's NC State at Stanford if you're, can someone sell me.
I can't even do it.
NC State at Stanford just the new ACCC continually giving us things that sentences
that we've never said before or we'll never.
But for both of us?
What is this?
That's right.
This is the call the ambulance for both of us game of the week.
And again, the ACC just keeps giving us things because I'm looking at the list here
and it's like, Cal at Saturday.
Cal at SMU.
Christ.
Oh, man, Mr. and Mrs. ACC can tell so many tales of that contest.
Yeah.
Let's go on Wednesday.
Yeah.
I'm telling you, Indiana.
Michigan on Saturday.
This is Indiana needs a rebound game after a lost Ohio State and this is a lot like getting
your first solid food after surgery and somebody going, how do you feel about oysters in the
shell where you have to eat the shell?
What?
Yeah.
This is it seems like a very it seems like a very.
Okay.
Yeah.
It seems like a very ugly way to get back on oysters.
Yeah.
This is Indiana.
Are there soft shell oysters like crabs that you just eat whole?
No, I would mean that you would have to try to.
crack through the...
Oh, I thought you were telling me about a real thing.
No, no.
Which I would have believed without question, because I'm not an oyster person.
You're saying, like, in tribute.
Yeah, I'm saying that, yeah, if this is a tough way to get back on the comeback trail,
not because Michigan is especially good, but because they play a very reductive, low
scoring version of football that will probably be very exhausting to play against.
That's less interesting, but it does make more sense.
Thank you.
Hot take.
Oysters ain't shit.
now I disagree
I don't fuck with them
not interested
I don't like it
more for me
if I have to like
if I have to use
all this extra shit
to make you good to eat
then maybe you're just not good to eat
I could just eat horse radish instead
well for those of us
who don't take anything
on oysters
that
irrelevant
I prefer to eat them
I prefer to eat them with nothing
they're delicious
I can take down 36 at a time
but the fun part is
whenever my family wants to do that, I just take down 36 crab legs, which I perceive as a greater feat.
Again, an ACC tradition.
Opting for crab legs.
Yeah, because of Maryland.
Who's in the ACC to this day?
That's right.
That's right.
LSU at Auburn at noon.
Boy.
This is the...
Under God's light.
This is...
the movable object versus the resistible force of Auburn coming off of a massive win
that it seems especially vulnerable.
LSU at all times this season capable of like self-combusting whenever possible.
So, ooh, ah, that's good luck to everyone there.
Another good luck to everyone there game.
Pittsburgh at Miami at noon.
Oh, God.
I know we tease this already in the show.
I'm still not ready to think about it.
It's going to happen.
Don't know.
We can't say it.
I already said it.
I said it online.
I'm sorry.
As soon as I saw it, I was like, oh, I love this movie.
Is this like when you see the TNT logo and you're like, oh, we're settling in for an afternoon?
Yeah, 100%.
I'm like, God, just put it on CW.
They show movies on Saturdays.
Come on.
Give me the hits.
Sadly.
Ninja Turtles, the late 80s, early 90s, early 90s one.
and then this right after.
Sadly, whatever your marching
of victory for Pitt is here on a wager,
you have to take a couple points off that
because this is not on the CW.
They do not get CW powers.
I know, I know.
This is going to be on regular old
ESPN Uno, ESPN Prime.
So you can go ahead and take that
off the board. Another, man,
noon is full of nothing but potential
hilarious disasters. Texas Tech
at Cincinnati. Remember, Scott,
Satterfield, you know, who a lot of people are interested in.
As a head coach, you might want to hold on to him.
Yeah.
According to Scott Satterfield.
According to Scott Satterfield, that's right.
How dare you say that about my source, Scott Satterfield?
Oh, he's really good.
Yeah, just keep an eye on that one.
That's potentially very amusing.
America's most entertaining team also plays at noon West Virginia at TCU,
which is one of America's least entertaining team somehow.
So West Virginia, you're going to have to carry this show.
You're going to have to do all the end problem.
Yeah.
Heard.
No team does more.
What kind of more?
More.
That's what's happening here.
What is football, but too much.
Hey, if you need some fiber in your diet, if you need something hearty, if you need something
wholesome. It doesn't get more wholesome than 3.30 p.m. on FS1. Iowa at Minnesota.
If you want some good, clean, ethical football, baby. That's playing for Floyd.
Floyd of Rosedale at 3.30. Additionally, if you want the opposite of that and you want the filthiest thing
that you're going to watch this year, you might be entertained by watching Oklahoma at Mississippi
Be State at 3.30 p.m.
Oh, man.
Yuck.
Ew.
Although, although I am intrigued by the amount of short foods we could potentially give Camaro
Taylor in this game.
Is he back?
I don't know if Camaro's back.
Is he not back?
I don't know.
Bummer.
Yeah.
If there has been an announcement on Tuesday afternoon one way or the other, I have not seen
it.
Yeah, he is.
I don't have a press release from them.
Yeah, this is, this is great coachwork here.
Jeff Leby says the injury report will speak to that.
Thanks, Jeff.
He's got a lot of, yeah, he's got a lot of work to do, but we'll see where we end up.
Okay, cool.
Thanks, dude.
Appreciate that.
Yeah, glad, glad we make them do that.
Man, another, this just gets more and more desperate.
There's Texas A&M in Alabama, also at 3.30.
Yeah.
that's dire.
Yeah.
Uh-oh.
Hey, I'm feeling better about my coach's draft all of a sudden.
You should.
I think I have some, I think I found a tonic.
Something's got to give right there.
And chances are when it gives is going to fall on someone.
I like that we're having kind of the spiritual opposite of last year's coaching cycle.
We have not had the early, the early hail storm.
but I think that we are charging up the carousel
for an absolute supernova of a postseason.
Yeah, this is, listen,
either one of those gigs, you know,
although I feel good about Mike Elko making it
because he made peace with the most important people
in Texas A&F football.
With Billy.
Yeah, with Billy Lucci.
So, yeah, Concord Reach with Billy Lucci.
I feel like Elko's probably got this.
Kaelin DeBoer.
Oh, it is De Bover, baby.
It's a...
We might be seeking greener pastures somewhere else.
That shit might work for two schools, Sally.
Speaking of, I'm going to jump ahead in the schedule a little bit and look at 7.30.
USC at Wisconsin.
Ugh.
I'm just, you know, just looking at Lincoln Riley.
That's all.
just taking a big old gander there at a Wisconsin team that I think we've gotten to the point
where we go hey are they continuing to flounder under Luke fickle and I'm like no sometimes they
flounder in a very feisty way and now floundering feistyly against USC just that's another one that I would
say keep an eye on also in that same block old miss at Texas see prior comments about
Texas and the continued existence and excellence of Trinidad Chambliss.
Yeah, I don't think Texas has a whole lot of answers, man.
And the one person who was an answer for Trinidad, Chambliss, is injured.
So good luck, y'all.
That's all I got to say.
Three losses for Steve Sarkis and before Halloween would have me in a space.
Oh.
Oh, roo.
Yes.
It just dawned on me that I could
Again, we're never doing a show without auto tune
ever again.
I hope you made it.
Is there a way for you to auto tune Jason
without him knowing that you're doing it?
Thank you.
Hey, listen, creeping closer and closer
to bowl eligibility and thus participation
by one very grumpy man in a festive bowl atmosphere
that would be Bill Billichick baby North Carolina gets to play Syracuse that'll probably put them at five wins
barring what I think would be an upset here one more gets him to six yeah friends dude then down bad
yeah they're down super bad and this could be an absolute this could be a stepping stone to towards
bill Belichick Duke's Duke's male bowl coach that's what I'm hoping oh man yeah he's got a win
yeah and miller's worked too hard to not dump mayonnaise on that man's head just saying just saying
jordan hudson like diving like a secret service agent right no that this might be the first you're
right this might be the first time somebody actually says nah i won't do it i cannot see it happening
i can't which is exactly why i want this i want this to be broached um and then then the other game
that I have in this lot where I'm like, you know what?
I think it'll be entertaining.
Virginia Tech at Clemson.
That's right.
I'm not above a little Saturday night, ACC.
Yeah, no.
Clemson's offense is so bad.
Real bad.
That has been, of all the things we expected out of this year,
I don't think I expected an ultra-quiet James Franklin.
Ultra-quiet and yet...
It's interesting.
It is.
and kind of keeping a low profile.
But also, like, very, very smart.
This has been a great first year for him so far.
Which is why I think he's keeping his mouth shut.
Yeah, like the losses, the Pitt one is totally excusable.
The Cow one is not because Cal is very down this year, even when JKS is playing.
But it was a close loss nonetheless.
And that game felt like.
they should have won it the entire time.
Clemson feels winnable.
Like all their games feel winnable from here on out.
And they're sitting at five and two.
Like, I don't have a lot of Hokies fans around me,
but I imagine they've got to be feeling really fucking good
about the way this has turned out so far.
Because they have a lot of room for error for this season to still be a huge success.
I think this is where, like, this is where that higher pays off the most is in year one and two.
When you start winning the floor games, you start winning the game.
you start winning the games that you should win
where you can go, okay, we have a baseline expectation of, you know,
seven wins.
We got to be Old Dominion.
Right.
Which feels crazy, but.
Nope, nope.
That was part of making this higher.
No, I, I 100% buy it.
And that's where I think this feels good.
Hey, look, you have permission to feel good.
Like, you know, year one and year two.
the floor's up.
Feel good about the floor coming up a little bit.
That's good.
Get disgruntled later, if you like.
But for right now, it's pretty cool, right?
Old Miss and Texas is a matchup of ranked on ranked.
But there is another ranked v. ranked game in the night shift that is fascinating to me.
And then one of two unranks that I think is the game of the week.
The one involving the ranked teams number 10, Utah, is hosting number 14, Houston.
Not only will this be fascinating for Channel 6 webinar host Brandy, who is now a Houston fan and reporting constantly on it, which I love like she's become the most gung-ho Houston Cougars fan.
Talking shit about Texas too online, I've noticed.
Left right in.
A-plus.
Right.
Great job.
He's doing it, con gusto.
Yeah, con gusto and instantly discovered college football's most known and enjoyable haterdom, which is Hornsdown.
I argue you don't even have to really hate Texas to love Hornsdown.
It just feels good to flash the horns down at things.
This is a fascinating matchup, especially Utah's coming off of a weird game against one of the teams and the other one that I think is the game of the day.
It is the game.
This is the real ball knowers game.
That is North Dakota State at New Mexico.
North Dakota State at New Mexico, New Mexico coming off a weird win over Hawaii where Jason Eck.
Did you see him flipping out on the sidelines in this game?
it was real late, but Jason Eck had some sort of episode where he yelled at nine or ten people
and grabbed the belt. They have like a turnover belt that's a wrestling championship belt. He grabbed
that and like pulled it away from somebody who had it and it was yelling at coaches. Then he went
over and yelled at another coach and he had the belt. He appeared to be having like guys who do that.
No, no. It was surprising. I hadn't ever seen that man that mad on the sideline ever.
So they lost that game, right, Spencer?
Him being so angry?
They won, actually.
Yeah, they won.
In case you wonder, you're like, oh, man, that guy seems chill.
No, no, they're not.
None of them.
None of them are chill.
This is like our buddy Dan said on Monday that he was going to try and figure out how the Eagles game was going based on just on post that he saw from Eagles fans.
And he was like, Ryan, I think you guys lost that game by 14 or something.
And Ryan was like, we won by 23.
Yeah.
But this is a, this is hopefully you won't, hopefully he won't, he will have recovered and won't be as upset as he was in the Hawaii game because holy shit, he was really, really visibly distressed.
Five and one New Mexico because he can coach his ass off is hosting North Dakota State six and one.
I like to think of both of these teams as playoff eligible.
Like both of them, if they just, if we get the New Mexico.
Lobos into the playoff.
Incredible work right there.
That is, to me, the game of the week.
I will enjoy watching that one immensely.
