The Cottonwood Fire Department has received notice from the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management, DFFM, that they will be conducting prescribed firework in the area.
On March 10, 26, there will be a 25-acre pile burn at Dead Horse Ranch State Park.
The burn is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and should last approximately six hours.
The park will remain open to guests during the operations.
The purpose of the project work is to reintroduce fire into the ecosystem and reduce fuel loading to protect park assets, nearby residents, park visitors, and safeguard any other infrastructure around the project units from future catastrophic wildfires.
The piles are the result of prior fuels mitigation work conducted by Arizona State Parks and Trails Staff.
DFFM collaborates with Arizona State Parks and Trails annually to reduce the risk of wildfires and protect nearby communities.
Arizona State Parks and Trails Staff handles the ongoing vegetation maintenance while DFFM provides the qualified resources to safely burn remaining fuel piles when conditions allow.
