The history behind the travel ID. The travel ID is Arizona's version of a real ID, a program

This federal law was enacted in response to the 9-11 terrorist attacks and is aimed at strengthening security standards for state-issued IDs. The law set minimum standards for the production and issuance of identification documents, ensuring they are more difficult to forge or obtain fraudulently. Over the years, the implementation deadline for the real ID requirement has been extended multiple times, but it's now officially going into effect May 7, 2025. After that, standard driver licenses won't cut it at TSA checkpoints for domestic flights. Why the travel ID? The Arizona Travel ID helps ensure your ID meets federal security standards. It's easily recognizable by the gold star in the upper right corner. Without it, or another federally approved
Starting point is 00:01:35 ID, you won't be allowed to board domestic flights. Other forms of compliant ID include valid U.S. passport or passport card. DHS trusted traveler cards, for example, global entry, TSA pre-check. U.S. military ID. But if you're like most travelers and use your driver license at the airport, now's the time to upgrade to a travel ID. What you'll need is. to get your Arizona Travel ID. To obtain an Arizona Travel ID, visit your nearest A.D. Motor Vehicle Division, MVD, office or an authorized third-party provider. Appointments are encouraged and can be scheduled at. Bring the following documents. Proof of identity, U.S. birth certificate or valid U.S. passport. Social Security number, just the number, you don't need the actual card.
Starting point is 00:02:25 Two proofs of Arizona residency, documents like a bank statement, utility bill, or lease agreement showing your name and Arizona address. Cost, $25. Validity, eight years. Processing time, your new travel ID will arrive by mail within 10 to 14 business days. What if you have to travel and don't have a travel ID yet? If you find yourself needing to fly after May 7, 2025, and you haven't upgraded to a travel ID, you'll need to use. You'll need to use. an alternative federally compliant ID to get through airport security. The most common option is a valid U.S. passport. Make sure your passport is current and not expired. If you don't have a passport either, it's essential to act now to apply for one or upgrade your Arizona license before your flight. To get your passport process started, visit travel.state.gov.
