Downtown Phoenix Incorporate its clean and green team will manage installation. The funding comes from a $1.4 million beautification commitment APS shareholders are directing across the utility's service territory in 2026, tied to the company's 140th anniversary in Arizona. APS traces its history in the state to the installation of its first street lamp at Central Avenue and Washington Street, the same intersection where one of the new canopies will stand. Installation is expected to be complete by the end of the year, after which downtown Phoenix incorporated plans a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the city of Phoenix and APS. The project is also expected to factor into the the city's broader heat mitigation efforts, led by its Office of Heat Response and Mitigation.
