Acting immediately, Fields responded to the scene ahead of firefighters. Active fire burned on one side of the structure and light smoke was present in the home when he arrived. Demonstrating the dedication firefighters are known for, whether on or off duty, Captain Fields conducted a search, safely assisted one non-ambulatory occupant outside, and a second resident with evacuation. Thinking quickly to protect what mattered most to the residents,
Starting point is 00:00:50 Fields secured personal items, including eyeglasses, a cell phone, and the homeowner's safe. Alongside his wife, Captain Fields began hitting small pockets of fire around the wood-burning stove with a nearby garden hose to keep the fire at bay until firefighters arrived. Once on-duty firefighters reached the scene, Captain Fields stepped back and briefed the first arriving engine captain on the fire's location and status, enabling them to manage the remainder of the response. He and his wife then continued on to their appointment. On Saturday, December 13th, 2025, at approximately 8.03 a.m., firefighters from the Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority, CAFMA, and Prescott Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire in the area of Ponderosa Park Road in Prescott, Arizona. The fire was quickly extinguished. It is believed that the fire originated in the fireplace and extended into the attic space. Two occupants safely self-evacuated prior to firefighters' arrival. Crews made a coordinated attack and were able to stop the fire's progress, preventing additional damage to the home.
