Flagstaff Stem City is proud to announce the winners of the 2026 Stemie Awards,
recognizing outstanding individuals and organizations who are making a meaningful impact in science,
technology, engineering, and mathematics, STEM, across the Flagstaff community.
The annual Stemey Awards celebrate innovation, leadership, and a shared commitment to expanding
STEM opportunities for students in the broader community.
This year's winners represent excellence across all four award categories.
2026 Semi Award winners.
Business of the Year, Nesslae Purina.
Community Partner of the Year, Grand Canyon Wolf Recovery Project.
Teacher of the Year, Stefani Whitcomb, kindergarten teacher, Seacrest Elementary School.
Student of the Year, Davis, Dian, Ye, 11th grade, Basis Flagstaff.
Selected from a competitive pool of community nominations, each winner has demonstrated exceptional
dedication to advancing STEM learning, inspiring curiosity, and strengthening connections between
education and real-world application. In addition, Flagstaff STEMCity presented its inaugural
Lifetime STEME Award to Chris Luggenble, honoring his decades of leadership, mentorship, and lasting
contributions to STEM education and astronomy in the Flagstaff community. The 2026th Stemmy Awards were
celebrated on March 19th at Lowell Observatory. Student and teacher award recipients each received
a $500 award in recognition of their achievements and contributions to STEM education.
Flagstaff STEM City extends its congratulations to all winners and finalists and thanks the
community for its continued support in fostering a strong and innovative STEM ecosystem in northern
