Beginning this week in Prescott, contractors will begin several hand-thinning operation projects on the Bradshaw Ranger District, including the Ruth Fire Stewardship Project, Links East Timber Stand Improvement Project and Poland Junction Timber Stand Improvement Project.
Chainsaws will be used to thin hazardous fuels, and material will be handpiled. The project locations are as follows.
Ruth Fire Stewardship Project
adjacent to the community of Ponderosa Park, along Ponderosa Park Road and Maripai Road
Forest Road 64. The following trails will be impacted, butter beans and cool beans.
Links East TSI and Poland Junction TSI
adjacent to the communities of Walker and Breezy Pines, along Forest Road 261 and Big Bug Mesa
Road. The following trails will be impacted, Dandria Trail No. 285 and Yankee Doodle Trail
number 284. No area or road closures are expected, however, we ask the public to exercise extreme
caution using trails in these areas and avoid areas where contractors are actively felling trees,
as operators may not see you. Operations could last until February 28, 2026, and are part of a
broader effort to strategically treat high-priority areas to improve the health and resiliency of
fire-adapted ecosystems while also mitigating the build-up of hazardous fuels that pose a threat to local
communities and critical infrastructure. Catch up with more local news stories on signalsaz.com.
