The Prescott National Forest, Deputy Forest Supervisor Ashley HOM approved funding for 11 projects
in Yavapai County to improve infrastructure, enhance forest ecosystems, restore forest health and
improve water quality. The Yavapai Resource Advisory Committee, RAC, reviewed a total of 14 project
proposals submitted to the Secure Rural Schools Title II program. Proposals are reviewed to
ensure they support local communities in their ties to national forest system lands. An emphasis is
placed on promoting community engagement, partnerships, collaboration and local leadership, as well
improving the sustainability of local economies, ecological services and stewardship opportunities on
public lands. RAC funded projects are located in Yavapai County on national forest system lands or on
nearby lands if the project will benefit resources on the national forests. Projects are completed by
Forest Service personnel, through partnership agreements or by open bid contracting with
individuals and corporations. The RAC works closely with the Forest Service to recommend projects
that will benefit forest health, fish, wildlife, soils, watersheds and other resources, maintains
roads, trails and other infrastructure, or control noxious weeds. The following projects have been
approved. $116,550, Wineglass Watershed and Wildlife Restoration Project
$70,000, Connell Gulch Watershed Improvement Project
$50,000, discovery experience and access management at Perkinsville Bridge Day Use Area Project.
$80,000, Goldwater Lakes Roadway Improvement and Runoff Mitigation Project.
$75,000, Grief Hill Community Trails Project.
$50,000, Spring Creek Aquatic Organism Passage Improvement Project Design.
$52,2224, Educational Signage Initiative Project.
$25,000, Arizona Conservation Experience Herbicide Treatment Project.
$97,607, Friends of the Verbe River Invasive Treatments and Restoration Project.
$70,000, Senator Highway Reconditioning Project.
$60,000, Highland Center for Natural History, New Campus Architecture.
