Guided by the Wise Council of his granddaughter and his wife, Prescott Frontier Days member Gary Steinmetz became involved in mutton bustin, where rodeo's youngest cowgirls and cowboys climb aboard and ride rambunctious sheep. Gary and PFD General Manager Jim Dewey Brown brought the program to the world's oldest rodeo in 2022, to the delight of rodeo fans. Gary has been involved in various rodeo activities for quite some time. I tried riding rough stock in the Midwest back in the 60s, and that wasn't going so well,
Starting point is 00:00:38 so I became a rodeo clown and had a ball. Gary also did some tie-down roping, and when their children were old enough to participate, he and his wife, Janet, hauled them along to junior and youth rodeos until they moved to Arizona. Finding a welcoming home with PFD and at the request of Chris Graff, Gary became a member in 2017 after joining the semi-retirement group and having more more time at home. Gary says his favorite part of mutton bustin is seeing the little cowboys and cowgirls smile when they have done a good job. His hope for mutton bustin is that PFD can just keep it going and that kids keep coming, some of which will be our future rodeo stars.
Starting point is 00:01:15 Prescott Frontier Days is featuring the popular pre-roteo event for eight performances at the 138th world's oldest rodeo in 2025. While PFD and the fans believe all contestants are winners, the rider who holds on the longest at each performance will receive a shiny belt buckle. Each contestant will also receive a commemorate of World's Oldest Rodeo back number. Children between ages 4 and 7 and not exceeding 55 pounds are eligible to ride in the event.
