To help prevent sewer problems, the city recommends. Allow grease and cooking oil to cool before disposal. Pour cooled grease into a sealed container and place it in the trash. Wipe grease and food residue from pots, pans, and dishes before washing. Use sink strainers to help keep large food particles out of drains. Restaurants and food service businesses are also encouraged to properly maintain grease traps and regularly clean grease removal equipment to help keep fog out of the sewer system.
