Hey, everybody. Welcome back to Signals News podcast. Today I have Jason Rader. And I'm not going to tell him he's named after an NFL team. We're not going to put it. The infamous, the best team in the world. I mean, I have to say. Probably the best football in Las Vegas. I mean, if they got arena football, might be able to go see that one. Maybe. Or the night. Are the knights football or are they hockey? Those are hockey. Yeah. Okay. So yeah, they're probably the best football. I'm going to say Raiders are the. best football team in Las Vegas. Awesome. Well, yeah. I would have to say so. I concur. So I grew up in California as a Bronco fan because when I started watching football,

John Elway was all the rage. And living in California, you know, I would be able to see, you know, anytime the Raiders were, you know, I always got all that channel. So I'd go to San Diego to watch theirs. Never would I go to Raider Nation to watch a Bronco game. Yeah, no. You don't walk in there with orange and blue on. Do not wear orange blue.

See, my sister's a Denver Bronco fan. So we definitely clash every time they play each other. AFC West, baby. AFC West. Got to go. Toughest division in the East or West. In the West, North I'd have to give to AFC North. You got you.

Yeah, yep. Yeah, those two are the worst. Best one. Ah, not the Bengals. So, Jason, tell me why you're here. You're with Majestic Halling Co. Yes, ma'am. Tell me what you do, ma'am.

So as of right now, I do handyman services. That's what I started out with. I'm a certified commercial electrician. been doing commercial electrician for eight years. I also work at Haskin Electric up here in Dewey. I worked for them for about two years. So doing pretty good at that. But my company I started up is for interstate and intrastate hauling. And I also do junk removal and stuff like that. So, yeah, I started that up about two years ago. I've really been trying to advertise it for the past year and a half. Just stand up on top of the house and just yell it out.

I have been. Hey, you. I'll get rid of that for you. Let me take that away. That's the best go-to. That's, I mean, that is the one thing that it's like, especially we got a, we got new appliances and I didn't want to pay the money to have them hauled away. I was like, oh, we'll just take them to the dump. Yeah, yeah. You know when they pulled up, I was like, okay, I changed my mind.

Yeah. Do you want to take these with you? Because what are you going to do? Yeah. You have to load it up, take it and take it to the dump. It's not cheap. Yeah, no, it's not. No, each appliance, I think they charge about $45 each appliance, depending on which one it is.

Refrigerators, you can, I mean, yeah, they go up from there. Well, and I don't heal as quickly as I used to. Yeah. So you tweak a back or, you know, call the guy. You're out for two weeks. We got to call the guy. Yep, got to call the guy. And you picked so two pretty difficult professions, electricians.

Yes. You don't play around with electricity. No. You don't have, you don't just try to do that yourself. No, man. Actually, so whenever I first got into it, I never really mess with electrical before, besides plugging in an outlet. Got it, you know.

Yeah. So. I can get that right almost. almost every time. Yes, you know, almost every time. Sometimes those little eyelids are turning around, not my fault. But anyway, so I went to a lady's house and they said that her microwave kept shortened out. I was like, really, what's going on? So it took me about 30 minutes to figure it out. Went and flipped a breaker, turned microwave off, still are on and it still started tripping it. So I went up in the crawl space looking around. And so I opened up the J box for the connection there

for the microwave. Open it up. And so anyway, I've seen sparking going on. And whoever the service guy was before, didn't hook a wire nut up correctly. So it had a loose spot inside of there, started arkin, melted the wire nut. That's what started tripping the microwave. Scary thought is very attention detailed, for sure. One little miss happened. You can have your house go up. It's dangerous. Yeah, my husband still love you, but changed out a ceiling fan. Oh, no, he changed out the light fixture in the dining room and now our ceiling fan. doesn't work. Oh, really? Yeah. So you know, he does something up there. Yeah, yeah, you probably got the wires crossed. He's a finished carpenter. Guys, don't, if you're a finished carpenter, don't think you're an

electrician. Nope, don't do it. Don't do it. Yep. Just I'm not a drywall. I'm an electrician. Yeah. I'll, I'll play with the wires back there. Yeah, yep, I can cut into it. We can go that route. Yep. Yes, ma'am. So when you're a little boy, you said, I'm going to be an electrician. Nope. I'm going to haul off everybody's stuff. They don't want me to. No, ma'am. How'd you get into it? Well, let's go back. As I was a little boy, we talked about earlier, I actually wanted to become a preacher.

My grandpa was a preacher. Okay. But whenever I was like 12 years old, he was like, it's a hard life. It's different. You need to find something that can sustain your family and then follow God on the side and spread the word on side. So that's kind of that went that route. But so I graduated high school at 16, went into construction.

A couple years later, I went to Yavipa, college for welding got my welding degree i love welding it's awesome then i went back into a framing excuse me doing all that and then uh finally somebody was just like hey do you know anything about electrical i said i kind of know a little bit to make it work so uh he's like all right come give it a try so uh started working for them and uh it just it clicked so uh from that point i've been doing a commercial electrician for about about seven years so uh yeah that's how i got into i just kind of love it and now you just start your own company. I started my own company and I do handyman services.

I've been advertising on Facebook, marketplace, stuff like that. Word of mouth is a good keen factor of mine because once I get out there, get the job done, very personable. So go say to hand. I kind of liked you. Yeah,

you know, well, thank you. Took about five minutes. And I was like, okay. Give it another five minutes. We'll see.

We'll see if you have the same answer. Yeah, give another five. Well, thanks for tuning in, guys. Yes, man. I've got to cut it short. Thank you. Yeah.

But so yeah, that's kind of what got me into that electrical field. Okay. But yes, ma'am. What do you like better? Working for myself. Who does it? Who does it? So honestly, yes, it's a lot of discipline, a lot of hours.

Like I came here today. I got home this morning at 4.30. I got two and a half hours of sleep, took a shower. Here I am. Fix your hair. Yep, fix my hair. My hair is nice and pretty. It's all shiny.

Thank you. So, yeah. So, yes, man. But so, yeah, it's a lot of discipline goes into running your own company, a lot more than I would have figured than just punching a clock, telling or listening to somebody to tell you what to go do. What's your motivation? My family.

I'm a family man through and through. I love my kids. I have a beautiful four-month-old daughter. Her name is Elizabeth. I got a beautiful two-year-old son. His name is Thorin. And I got a beautiful wife. Her name is Carusia.

and they back me 100%. So I back them 100%. Every day I wake up is for them. Yeah. It's easy to get out of bed when you got to. It's easy to get out of bed when you got a reason, a reason that you want to fight for. Yeah, that's awesome.

It doesn't make it work so much anymore. Yeah. So I think the one thing about like doing the interstate, and interstate traveling and hauling, I get to take them with me. So it's a higher premium, but it's well worth it. Yeah. So how was that?

So traveling with the fam. Yep. And you guys, is it like a sleeper truck or you guys, you go get hotels and stuff? No, we get hotel rooms. Sometimes if we get a travel trailer, we've gotten a bunch of travel trailers. And so with the shipping app and stuff like that, they allow you to pull over if you want to stay in it, but you got to clean it. So on and so forth. So it's kind of awesome.

You know, they do what they call it LTLs, which is load to load. So that means they're giving you for a cheaper rate that we could charge them. They're giving us the go ahead to use it to stack more stuff in there. So if I pick up a trailer like I picked up last night, New Mexico, and then I got to go pick up a statue in Scottsdale. So they said as long as you blanket wrap it, you can go ahead and put it in that trailer. And whatever else you can fill it to make it go. So you can easily turn a $400 trip into $2,000. Yeah.

If you're smart. If you play it right. Yeah. So I kind of got a few loads that I got to pick up on Thursday. and stuff like that down to Phoenix. And I got one in a flagstaff, which is a little bit closer to go get. And then it's on to Los Angeles. You and your wife, though, do I, you know, my husband and I, she is, she's got to be

because my husband, he's got a CDL now. And that's, he's done OTR for a while and he's more local now. And, you know, he knows me well enough to know that we're going somewhere. It takes us 10 hours to get there. We're going. I don't want to turn around. and just come right back. Yeah.

No, he wants, like, I, if we're going somewhere, there better be like a spa or, you know, Vegas or something at the other end. No, he just goes. Yeah. Drops off, picks up something else and comes back. See, I'm, I, I'm definitely spontaneous. Yeah, you like that. I like it. And you and your wife get along.

Oh, I'm, I've never been able to play a wrestle with a significant other. I've been married once other. Okay. We won't even, we won't even bring that up. But nonetheless, so it comes to a whole new, I knew her three years before we got together. Got to make sure you like her. Got to make sure I like her. If you can't hang out with them, they're not worth being around.

So I guess a bunch of other people seen it before we did. Outside of that, we were just friends. Like, hey, Jason, you love her. Yeah, no, I don't. At that point in time, I really didn't want to. I just got out of a bad relationship. It was only like a year. But at that point, that wasn't it.

It was my job. Let's work and hustle. That was it. But the opportunity to row, she came along and I was like, thank you. That's the woman. Lock it down. Well, and if you guys can travel in a truck together with kids. Yeah, with a screaming baby and an irritable toddler, we're good.

In fact, she gets mad when she has to sit in the back to feed the baby. I'll sit here, look on my phone. We'll get the next load. She's like, no. I'm with it with you. She's my best friend. That's awesome. I do not go ahead.

Like she was upset because I came here today without it. I was like you're going to go to work afterwards. It's work, man. It's work. So, yeah, she is my best friend. Well, you're a little old school with her too. You're very southern. I am very southern.

I joke because you're telling me what do you do for your wife every time she comes near a door? I feel like if she grabs a doorknob while I'm home. Disrespectful. What did I do wrong? Disrespectful. Disrespectful. Why did you touch that doorknob? What did I not do for you? You don't think I'm mad and it's an open. What did I not make clear to you? I will get that doorknob. Yes, man. But do you understand

you're setting us up for failure? I do because now she's spoiled and she expects it. Well, and my husband, I tell him, do you know how stupid I look standing in front of a door for five minutes waiting for it to open? But how does it make you feel when somebody else coming out of the store was like, you know what, sir? That was wonderful what you did. Yeah. Yeah. I, yeah, when people, well, and it's funny because I'll walk up and I'll kind of wait for them open the door. Yeah, yeah. Like I'm just so used to. Yep, so used to that.

And it's funny. Yes, ma'am, nothing wrong with it. I find nothing wrong with it. Well, there's got to be a limit, though, because it's like 100 degrees outside. My husband wants to open the car door, put me in the car, walk around. I'm aware just. Yeah, yep. I'm not telling them.

Can I give you a bit of advice? Maybe you can slide it in under a note for him. Yeah. Whenever he gets you in the car, just reach over and turn the key on. Yeah. shut the door and then go. I'm going to go ahead and do that. That's a good idea.

That's it. Yeah. Yep. A little extra part. Yes, ma'am. He has one of those things where like the, where you can start it with your thing. Oh, yeah. The key fobub.

Yeah. I say you need to start the car. Let's see, there you go. Had to upgrade because. Yes, ma'am. If we're getting ready to come up here, I go start the truck before the kids and the wife even comes out of the house. Yes, ma'am. Do you treat your customers like this?

Yes, ma'am. Nice. Yep. I sure do. I've actually had two customers come back to me. One person in his name was Tim. He's like, look, I don't have the money to pay you. What can you help me do?

Just tell me what you need done. It's not so much as making the money. As much as it is, it's him trusting you. Like, can you help me out? If a person would come to you and be like, can you help me out? I'm going to help you every day of the week. You know, I'll pay you this much. Let's go.

I'll figure it out for you. We'll figure it out together. So I'm very much. We'll figure it out. We'll figure it out. You know, my other one is this is, what? it is. Some things you can't help. Kind of the same person, bro.

So you just got to keep pushing. If you can't change it, there's no reason to worry about it. It just keep going. You had kind of a famous customer. I did. So, sir, Mr. Ivan Moody, a five-finger death punch. So I got to meet him. And that was a few-day job right there. I don't know if anybody really knew. It was keep underwere. raves, but he lived in the houses back in the Hacianpa in Prescott. So we got a call on Facebook marketplace because that's where I was, we're advertising

at that place, and of all things. And dude named Mike, Mike calls me. He's like, hey, I need you to pack up a house. How much you charge? Send him everything. Send him the quote and everything else. He's like, cool. He goes, I need you to do three things.

I said, what? He goes, one, don't tell anybody. I said, okay. Well, too late now. Y'all already moved. Sorry, Ivan. If you ever see this, bro, I am sorry. But we're spilling it.

I'm sure. I'm sure he's watching all the time. So anyway, so anyway, so I got to meet his son. And Mike was telling me, he's like, please don't say nothing. And I was like, all right, he's like, the people that you bring, please make sure those are the only people you bring, no phones, no nothing. So it was like, well, all right, bro. Like, I don't even want to do this now.

I was like, you know what? Like, this is like a scam. Like, I'm just not doing it. You know, he goes to a homeowner. Yeah. He's like, the homeowner isn't here, but he'll be here to pay you and stuff. And I'm like, all right, well, I'll call you back later. It was actually really two days.

Now you're sketched out, right? I was sketched out. I was like, you know, as a new business operator, like I really don't want to step into that. And I don't want to give them a false pre-stance that I can do it or I'm going to do it. And I have the back out of it because I don't like something. That's just not me. I'm a stickler. I'm just going to nail it down and go through.

You know what I mean? But if I can stop it before it happens, I'm going to try. So, but anyway, so I was like, you know what? We'll be there. I said, you'll see the difference as soon as you meet me. So anyway, so we went. in there and he's like, hey, I'm Mike and he goes, Ivan's in the back. I was all, uh, Ivan's in the back. I said, all right, so let's go meet him. So we started walking through the hallway and instantly,

I looked up and, uh, and I seen his platinum gold record and actually got the picture on my phone. Mike almost wanted to unleash on me. He's like, nope, don't take a picture. I said, come on, man. He's like, all right, go for it. All right, one picture. Put your phone away. One picture. So we ended up, he, he, uh, he loosened up after he got to, to know us. And, uh, I actually brought my oldest son with me as well. And so we started doing it. And, uh, yeah, sure enough, though, that that was the best customer. I love it. You said it should have taken 10 minutes, but I was there for five days hanging out. Yeah, he's like he's all for four people. It should be a 30 minute in and out job and we're there two and a half days. Thank you, bud. No, but. Thanks for the sandwich. Yeah. Thanks for the sandwich.

Yeah. You know, thanks for the ride at home depot, you know, so we appreciate it. I'm telling you, it was awesome. It was awesome. And so I remember whenever they came out with the song, bad company. When it came out with bad company, everybody went crazy over that song, you know, and I've never been into the military, but one thing I do pride myself, I respect our military. You know what I mean? My grandpa died. You know what I mean? Everybody else's family had died because of our military. I don't care what your perception is. It's okay. You can have it, but I personally support him. And being that he was a military vet and he walked through and showed me all of his, uh, yeah, it was just an experience. I was flabberg out.

acid. That's awesome. I grew up listening to his music back then when it came out and every day, every morning I'd go to work. You're starting to nail up a house. You've got to listen to five-figure death punch. Push you in the mood, them and disturbed at lunch. Make it through the rest of the day. Yeah, you know what I mean? So yes, ma'am. Yeah, I would always love going into like going down to Phoenix. You put on KUPD and that's where you'd always hear them. Always. Yep. It's like, it's the only band you guys play, but that works. Yeah, yeah, it works. And now they're going on tour and they're supposed to be back out here in September and I'm supposed to have... They need a roadie, dude, I'm sure.

Yeah, yeah, I'm told him. I'll go to you guys. Unload your boxes, whatever you need. Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah, I actually got to see Offsprings, the least singer of Offspring's signed guitar. Got to hold that. Yeah, it was awesome. It was awesome.

I'm just going to give me 10 minutes. I was going to hold this guitar for a while. Just like peace and quiet. Yeah. Yep. It was awesome. That's awesome. Yep.

So best, that's got to be like your best story. Oh, that's definitely my best, my best story. Because I grew up listening to their music. I love their music. Their music is awesome. I don't really listen to them so much anymore. I'm kind of older, so I've mellowed down some. So, but they're still the number one band.

It's pretty heavy. It's pretty heavy. It's pretty heavy metal. The coolest guy I ever met with Snoop Dog, but he was buying, yeah, Snoop, very cool. But he was buying athletic cups at Dick Sporting Goods and SoCal. Really? Yeah. This is how I meet.

And I was like, hey, Snoop. Hey, he goes, hey, Mama. Hey, well, yep. Thank you. Yep, that's all he needed. Just made my ear. Yeah. This is cool. You want to know who the worst person I ever met? Who? Personally, George Clooney. He was so rude. So my dad used to work at the airport down in Cascault. I don't know if a lot of people know this, but Three Kings, the movie was actually filmed out there by Cassa Grand Airport. And so they all flew in there and we got to meet Ice Cube. And so anyway, so it was pretty odd. Ice Cube was awesome. I was insane. He is a down-the-earth person. You know what I mean? He is just, there you go, you know. But, yeah, George Clooney was so rude, man. He was rude.

Like, you know what? Yeah, I'm like, I think I was like maybe 10 years old. How come somebody that pretty? You know, be so rude. Like I was like, I think it was like nine or 10. All I was doing is just carrying your boxes. You know what I mean? He's like, no.

No. All right, fine. You know who is rude to me? Who? Rosie O'Donnell. Unacceptable. I think she's a rude person. I think she's a rude person.

I told her. We were at Universal Studios and she was doing her show there. And I said, Rosie, I love you. I watch her show every day. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And she said, hmm, great. See, no gratitude. Can we cancel your show please?

Yeah, cancel. I never watched her again. Yeah, no. See, no appreciation for the little guys of washer. I'm going to tell you right now, I see you on public and you say, hey. Say hi, I'm going to say right back. Yep, that's it. People.
