Hey everybody, welcome back to Signals News podcast. Today, I'm super lucky because I've got Lawhorn plumbing here, and these are the women behind Lawhorn plumbing. Would you mind introducing yourself for us?
Hello, my name is Abigail Lawhorn, and we work for Lawhorn plumbing. You work for them? That's awesome. And who's this?
My mom. And what's her name?
Cassandra Lawhorn. She's trying to figure out which name to say, so that's why.
She's like, she's like, Cassie, Cass, mom.
Cat, yeah.
Just mom too, right?
Yeah.
So plumbing.
How long have you guys been in business?
We've been in business out here for three and a half years.
Perfect.
And we've actually had our own business though since 2018.
Okay.
And it was funny.
Normally, I never bring up like, oh, you know, where are you guys from?
Because, you know, if everybody gets like California or whatever.
I know, right?
We don't talk about Bruno.
We don't talk about it.
However, one thing I do like to mention.
is the one thing about California, you know, I live there for, you know, born and raised
or forever, but is the standards.
Right.
And, you know, they're very careful about everything that they do.
And they've got so many people kind of overseen.
Did that have anything to do with you guys kind of branching out and doing your own thing?
So, yes.
So we, again, yes, coming from Southern California.
So OSHA out there is very, you know, very high standards.
So they want to make sure that everything is by the book, everything's safety-wise, is being, you know, put to good use and, you know, just everything's good out there, right? So that's why out here, our standards are higher. You know, I'm not saying, you know, other companies aren't, but with us, we set our standards high to make sure that the installs are done correctly. You know, it's up to code, permit requirements, and so on and so on. And we branched out on our own, mostly because actually during COVID.
Being in California, lovely COVID.
Oh, yeah, all the time.
So, but we were kind of not necessarily pushed, but like guided in the right direction
to just really do our own thing.
And between my husband and myself, we, we don't necessarily work well with people all the time.
Management, of course.
I don't like to share either.
I know.
I know.
No.
This is my way.
Pretty much.
Yeah.
And that's why we like doing our own thing with Law and Plumming is we like to make sure
the standards are there.
You know, we're not going to lower our standards.
it's just because someone wants it done faster or someone wants it done sooner.
We'd like to make sure it gets done right the first time.
And I would think, too, if you were trained a certain way and you've learned a certain way
and then you start doing it in another location, it's like, oh, you know, you've got,
we only have this much time to get it done, get it done, and cut a corner if you need to.
Yeah. And that can be pretty frustrating if you're a perfectionist or you've just been taught, like.
And we are.
We're very, you know, by the book wanting to make sure it gets done right, my husband's very particular.
This is his passion.
You know, this is what he likes to do.
He's, you know, gone through two license testing, journeymen, you know, everything, everything you could think of in the last 13 years.
And he's just, it's his baby.
It's what he likes to do, you know, and besides that baby.
But it's just what he likes to do.
You know, we're perfectionist.
I am too.
I've always been really good with customer service, talking to customers.
talking to customers, explaining.
Of course, you know, be from California.
Sometimes I talk too fast.
But is that where I get that from?
I swear it is.
Yeah, it has to be.
When I used to work at a different company and we would find mobile
notaries around the whole United States, I'd call someone in like,
oh, I don't know, good example, like Minnesota or something, right?
And it was always up in the northern eastern area.
And they're like, you talk so fast.
Are you from California?
I'm like, first I would think like, oh, it's an accent.
They're like, no, you talk fast.
And I'm like, I'm sorry, let me slow down.
Slow down for you.
I always know how fast I'm talking because my phone can't keep up with what I'm saying.
Oh, when you do the voice text?
I'll do voice text.
And everybody laughs at my voice text because they're like, Alicia, read your text again.
I was like, embarrassing, right?
And then the other thing I get to is I use my hands a lot.
So, yeah.
We're the same.
Right?
We all do that.
You are you learning the business as well?
Yeah.
So what I have learned so far is how to solder.
I want to learn how to solder more with using both, like using the fire tool, using the, like, the solder.
Soder.
And I want to learn how to do that.
My dad has taught me how to do the soldering, but I don't know how to do both at one time.
It's pretty hard, right?
But you're figuring it out?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Tell me a little bit about your hair.
going on here. I love this.
So one, like, I've been
having my mom on my birthday.
My mom, was it my birthday or was it
my birthday party? Both.
And my mom put her extensions in my
hair and I'm like, oh, that's so pretty. And you couldn't
even see them because I have very long
hair. Yeah. My friend Astra.
Hey, Astra. Shout out.
She has very, very
short hair because
she's little and she's only out
her hair. And when we put it in, it's
down to her shoulders.
And I'm like, oh my gosh, because she's like so short.
And the other day, I was going to ask her if I could put her ascensions in
because I was trying to do a prank on my mom, my dad and sister.
And then she's like, no.
And I'm like, okay.
And then I asked my mom if we could buy extension.
She's like, yeah, so I bought things.
And then we went to another customer's house.
Wait, so which one is the extension?
The brown or the purple?
Don't take him out.
The purple.
The purple.
So we initially did it because we had a K-pop party and she wanted to have hair like roomy.
And we went to a customer's house and there was like two dogs and she had more extensions like very a lot.
But they were little and as long as these.
Excellent.
I love it.
16 different colors.
I love it.
So you're learning how to solder.
Yes.
That's great.
And one day are you going to take over?
Lawhorn plumbing, are you going to be the boss?
So what I really want to do is teaching.
I can teach me.
I just really want to teach.
My favorite thing is teaching because my teachers are great at my school, and I love them.
And I love going to school.
What school do you go to?
Presby Valley Tour to school, but next year I'm going to Liberty.
Oh, Liberty is a tough one.
Yeah.
You like the red, white, and blue?
Yeah.
You can jazz it up, though.
You're going to make it jazzy.
We know a lot of teachers and talk about.
Yeah, but there's like a uniform there where you have to wear red.
I don't think you're going to have a problem with that.
I think you'll wear your red, white, and blue, and then you can jazz it up, right?
Yeah.
That'll be very cool.
Yeah.
And you're a dancer?
Yes.
I love dancing.
Where do you dance?
Shout out.
I don't remember.
Blue Mitt Studio.
My Sasha was in here.
She was sitting right where you were sitting a few weeks ago.
I know.
We know everybody.
Crazy.
Yeah.
And also I have a dance teacher.
named Lila and Soli and I have a lot of friends in my dance.
I coached Lila some cheerleading a few years ago when she was little like you.
So shout out to Lila.
There we go.
It's a great day.
It is a great day.
We got lots of shoutouts.
My goodness.
So for you guys, you do residential, commercial, all that good stuff.
Yes.
So we do both residential and commercial.
Bread and Butter is, of course, service calls, emergency service calls, remodels, things like that.
But we do commercial also.
We've done a couple different commercial properties around here, gas stations and things like that.
And my husband was trained more in commercial, big commercial, like building like hospitals and, you know, things like that out in California.
So that's what he's comfortable with, his favorite thing, which is funny for most people.
And FYI.
So plumbing is gas lines.
So he likes to work on gas lines.
So that's actually his forte.
And people are shocked and don't, you know, know that plumber.
do that. They think, oh, that's why we have a gas company. Well, up to a point. Same thing with
electrical, up to a point. So, but that's what he likes to do the most. Yeah. I, I, we're getting a new
building for our cheer team. And it was, we were told, well, as soon as Unisource comes in, then the plumbers will,
and I was like, well, the plumbers just do stuff now while we're waiting for it. Right.
Yep. Yep. Yeah. And do you guys do so there's, like if you want a propane line to your barbecue, that is also.
Correct. Yes. So. Yes. So.
Propane, natural gas, both. So, of course, same standards, you know, for how it needs to be
sized and correct and shutoffs and tested and everything like that. So it's always pressure tested
with air. Make sure it's up to a certain PSI. We do all of our gas lines with permits. So either
with the counties or the city, I'm sorry, county or the cities. And they know us really well.
Again, higher standards. So, yeah. Well, it's definitely paying off. You guys. It seemed pretty
busy. The reviews I see are great. Thank you. Are they busy? Yes, they are a lot.
They're busy. Well, our day doesn't end until the job is done. So unfortunately, yes, sometimes,
you know, the kids understand, because we've been doing this for a long time, but our day
doesn't stop at four or five o'clock. Sometimes it's eight, ten o'clock at night or even getting a call at
one o'clock in the morning for an emergency service call. Sometimes at my, like one night we,
we had an emergency call and my dad, just my dad, was he your dad?
Yeah, it just, yeah, so he went to Maya's burkado at like, like, fuck at night.
And dad didn't get to sing my song at night.
It's couldn't stop your crying by Tarzan.
And just my favorite show because I, because whenever I hear that song, I love it and I feel happy hard.
That's an awesome song.
But could you imagine if your dad didn't go out and then Mayas couldn't open their store the next day?
Nope.
It would have had water all over the floor.
It had been terrible.
On all the vegetables, which is okay.
But on all the boxes, which is bad.
Bad.
Yeah.
So your dad is a superhero kind of.
Saves the thing.
And there's also different types of water heaters.
Yeah.
So there is electric and propane.
And most customers ask if they could swap it out because they mostly like propane better than electric.
Why do you think that is?
Because I think that electric, they might get worried for them.
and they might think that it might like explode or something.
That could be scary.
And something can break and caught fire.
You think your dad could handle that though?
Yes, before.
Again, like a superhero, keeping family safe.
Do you do.
So if they're looking to hire your dad, who seems like a pretty awesome guy,
how would they get a hold of you guys?
They can reach out to us call or text at 928-529-7-7-7.
We're also on all the socials, Facebook, Instagram, Google.
We have a website, lawhornplumbing.com, and our email is simple.
Lawhornplumbing at yahoo.com.
One more time, what is that phone number, 928?
529-7778.
That is awesome.
Gotta have it memorized.
And if my teacher's watching this, Mr. Crow, hello, it's Abigail.
What's your teacher's name?
Mr. Crow.
Dicrow.
Dicrow and her real name is.
Stacy. It used to be Miss Latin, but it used to be Stacy a Latin. Now it's Stacy DeCrow.
Why? What happened? Oh, she got remarried.
Oh. In October? Yeah. How fun for her. Yeah, six months.
And we also used to have a, was it a co-worker? Like Billy?
Oh, we used to have a couple different coworkers. And, um.
So, yeah, but do you think they should call your dad? He'll do a good job?
Because, yeah, he's good.
And he was like, Billy, he was the best worker because he would listen.
He wouldn't get mad.
That's important when you're hiring coworkers.
And when I had my teeth.
When you had your teeth, you've got teeth falling out.
I'm surprised they made it through this whole podcast.
Yeah.
I had to get my tooth pulled out because it, like, had a really bad crack.
And this tooth had to get silver crown because it was starting to get.
Yeah.
Yeah.
See?
Yeah.
Yeah.
And Billy sadly got...
Billy sadly got hit by a car.
Oh.
And now we put up a cross for him because we knew where he hit because we saw like the flat, like the flat stuff on the ground.
We felt bad for him.
So we put up a cross and put up a shirt and his bag.
Very good kid.
Like a little memoriam.
Yeah, like a tiny, itty, bitty bit, memory.
Well, that's okay.
It's something.
Gotta do what you got to do.
Yep.
Right?
He got to take your people.
He was only the, well, he's not the only good coworker, but he was perfect because
the other coworker.
What was his name?
We don't need to talk about it.
It's okay.
Tell them one more time.
Give everybody your phone number one more time.
928, 529, 7778.
And that's lawhorn plumbing.com.
Yep.
Abigail and Cassandra, thank you so much for coming in today.
Of course. No problem.
And sounds like you guys know exactly what you're doing.
Thank you.
I've heard nothing but good things about you guys.
So I appreciate that.
What you're doing?
Perfect.
Thank you.
All right.
We will see you next time.
Bye.
