The Wednesday, December 11th, Prescott Valley Town Council meeting was a reminder of what true leadership looks like. Lucy Leva, former council member, local business owner, and entrepreneur, stood with calm resolve and clarity, urging us to hold our new leaders to higher standards. Leadership isn't about belittling residents or venting on social media. Calling constituents morons divides us when we need unity.
Starting point is 00:00:34 Lava's remarks came in response to one of the newly elected Prescott Valley Town Council members disparaging remarks directed at her. See video, beginning at 4854. As Lava said, council members should be respectful and polite, not insult or attack. They are to be good role models for the community. Set a different way, if you have nothing good to say, you're in the wrong position. That also means times exist when leaders should pick their battles carefully, instead of charging a head like a bull in a china shop. Negativity doesn't build communities, it breaks them. Research proves this, insults and name-calling breed mistrust, damage relationships, install progress. Real leadership requires vision, emotional intelligence, and the courage to foster open dialogue, not war.
Starting point is 00:01:20 What Lava experienced is a result of negative echo chambers fostered by social media and a keyboard warrior loss without a good company. Lavasa's composure and remarks remind us of what class looks like. The good news? Even rivals can unite for the greater good. History, and even biology, show this time and again, from World War II alliances to cleaner fish and reef fish working together against predators and disease. Collaboration creates strength. Today, Guy Rogensen, director of Talking Glass Media, Signalsaz.com and Tim Vederanders, editor of the Daily Courier and Prescott Valley Tribune, stand alongside each other to
Starting point is 00:01:57 support our community and say, this is not okay. A disgruntled faction is grasping for direction, and at least one naysayer has been elected in the absence of leadership. The problem resides in voices screaming to get attention and making demands rather than realizing our local political ocean is one that requires open doors, consensus, and cooperation. Once you're a council member, you are to represent the best for all residents, not your agenda alone. And you are to set the example, the role model for our community. Yes, council members are not to be carbon copies of each other, rolling over and being rubber stamps, however, they must work together. As for us, Tim and Guy, we offer different resources for news and information. But on this one, we are happily swimming together
Starting point is 00:02:42 on the same reef. Who's the cleaner fish, and who's the reef fish? You decide. Still, one of us thinks he has the better haircut.
