The Prescott Badgers Boys basketball team bounced back in impressive fashion after a tough
loss to Deer Valley last week, securing a 68 to 56 road victory over Arcadia on Monday night.
Deer Valley punched us in the mouth a couple of days ago and so we needed to bounce back,
Prescott head coach Travis Stedman said.
Our schedule here at the beginning of the year is not simple and so we got to figure out
a way to win every single moment, every single possession in tonight we did a great job.
The game was tightly contested in the first half, with the Badgers, 2 to 1 overall, 0 to 04
a Grand Canyon, N Titans, 2 to 2 overall, 0 to 04 a desert sky, matching each other basket for
basket. Prescott was the first to hold a two possession lead after a clutch 3-pointer
by Uriotinet with just under two minutes remaining in the second quarter.
Prescott's league grew to six points at halftime, capped by a buzzer beating.
putback by junior forward Jake Deener. The Badgers came out strong in the third quarter,
ramping up their defense while continuing to build on their offensive momentum. Prescott
extended the advantage to nine points and headed into the final frame with a comfortable lead.
We knew they were going to be a really good shooting team, a team that moves the ball,
a team that plays hard, Tenet said. We needed to push the pace, play at our speed and we didn't
want to let them control the pace. In the fourth quarter, the Badgers maintained control,
never allowing their lead to dip below eight points.
Prescott ended the game on a 9-5 run to seal the victory.
Getting the win was big for us, Tenet said.
Boost our confidence back up, and we hope to continue that.
Tenet led the offense with 36 points, while fellow senior Zane Gall added 17.
Despite the double-digit setback to Deer Valley, three-to-one overall,
0 to 0-4A West Valley, Prescott is considered one of the best teams in the 4A conference
with most of the players returning from a 16 to one regular season last year.
With high expectations on their shoulders, the badgers are staying focused on the present.
We have a mantra, we just take it a day at a time, Stedman said.
We can't eat the elephant in one big bite, so we got to take little bites as we go and so we're working our way up the hill.
The badgers have a quick turnaround as they now prepare to host Allah, Gilbert North,
4 to 0.0.0.8 East Sky, on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
