This summer, the Charlotte Hall Museum invites you to step back in time at its highly anticipated Twilight Tales event, the Legacy of Legacy, a lost Prescott movie.
Taking place on Tuesday, August 12th at 4.30 p.m., this immersive experience brings together local history, cinematic intrigue, and community connection.
In 1963, an independently made film titled Legacy was filmed in Prescott by writer and producer Richard Snodgrass,
employing local residents both in front of and behind the camera. Capturing a trilogy of short
stories in the then popular New Wave style, Legacy premiered at the Historic Elks Theater and
was submitted to international film festivals. Although it was never picked up for distribution
and remained unseen for decades, Legacy offers a rare lens into Prescott's cultural and cinematic history.
This event will mark the first public screening of Legacy at Charlotte Hall Museum in many years,
hosted by historian Parker Anderson, followed by an insightful discussion with a panel of local
film experts. Also featured will be Snoggrass's long-unseen short film, a child's eyes,
which addresses the John F. Kennedy assassination and will be shown courtesy of the Sixth Floor Museum
in Dallas. Together, these films represent a significant rediscovery for both the local community
and American independent cinema. Attendees will enjoy a light reception on the brick patio in front
of the transportation building prior to the screening, with the main program held in the
Education Center Auditorium. Seating is limited in tickets are required,
$25 per person, no refunds, ensuring an intimate and focused experience.
Please note that Legacy is a historic film that contains limited but notable racial references
reflective of its time and explores mature, emotionally complex themes that may not be
suitable for young audiences. Viewer discretion is advised. Set against the scenic and historically
significant Charlotte Hall Museum, the event promises an enriching experience that combines
authenticity and nostalgia, making it a standout summer activity. The Twilight
series is designed to foster connections between past and present by spotlighting often overlooked
histories and untold stories surrounding Prescott in the Greater Arizona region. This installment,
focused on a piece of cinematic heritage, is expected to draw audiences passionate about preserving
history and creative ways and uncovering hidden gems from Prescott's past. Don't miss this one-of-a-kind
event at the Charlotte Hall Museum. Admission begins at 4.30 p.m. For tickets, got to
