The Arizona Department of Transportation will permanently close the Interstate 10 Interchange at Paula Verde Road the night of Friday August 14th, as part of an ongoing project to reconstruct and widen I-10 from Kino Parkway to Alvernan Way. The closure is set for 9 p.m. August 14th. The upcoming change is the latest sign of progress on A.D. 600 million dollar project to modernize approximately three miles of I-10 southeast of downtown two-scent. on by adding travel lanes and improving interchanges. The Palo Verde Interchange closure will allow crews to further reconstruct the highway after demolishing the existing bridges at Palo Verde and Irvington roads, along with demolishing the existing travel lanes on I-10. The closure sets the stage for another nearby change. Just west of the Palo Verde interchange, A-D will open a new interchange at Country Club Road this fall. That interchange is taking shape, with much of the paving complete for
Starting point is 00:00:58 the new roadway and ramps. The I-10 project began in June. 2025 with the goal of reducing delays and enhancing safety. Major project features include adding a third lane in each direction of I-10 and building two interchanges. The project, considered the largest highway construction project in southern Arizona history, will include. Widen I-10 to three lanes in each direction between Kino Parkway and Alvernan Way with auxiliary lanes. Reconstruct the interchange at Keno Parkway. Construct a new interchange at Country Club Road that will provide access for traffic that currently uses the interchange at Palaverd Road to allow for safer traffic movements to and from I-10. Construct a new westbound on ramp at the Alvernan Way interchange.
Starting point is 00:01:41 Construct an I-10 undercrossing to connect the North and South Kino Sports Complex. Throughout the project, AdD will maintain two lanes of travel in each direction on I-10 during peak travel times while maintaining access to businesses. Construction is expected to continue through 2028. The project is the first to result from the I-10, 210 study completed in 2020 that recommended how to best improve mobility along a roughly 10-mile stretch of I-10 from I-19 to Colb Road. The study also identified an alignment for an extension of State Route 210, Baraza Aviation Parkway, along Alvernan Way that will connect I-10 to downtown Tucson.
