Hello, I'm Mayor Phil Good with your weekly update.
The Prescott Workforce Housing Committee and city staff are preparing a needs assessment to address the need for affordable housing in Prescott.
As part of the assessment, we're offering an online survey for persons who reside or work in the town to determine the need for affordable housing and where it might be found today in the region.
The city seeks citizen participation in the survey to better understand the availability.
of affordable housing. All responses are strictly confidential and individual responses will not
be revealed to any employer or business. To take the survey, go to participateproskest.com and select
the workforce housing tile on the homepage. The Zone 41 Mingus Pump Station Tank and Pipeline
Project is underway. The project consists of replacing two existing 200,000 gallon water tanks on the
hillside above Douglas Avenue in Prescott Heights with a single 750,000 gallon water storage tank.
We will also replace the existing Mingus Pump Station on Douglas Avenue and upsize the water pipe
between the pump station and the new tank. This project is scheduled to be completed in early
2026 and is being undertaken to improve the city's water infrastructure to meet current and future demands.
Work may occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., neighborhood roads in the project area will be impacted.
As with all road construction projects, please be aware that rough road conditions, reduce speeds, loud noise, flagging operations, and lane restrictions in the work zone may occur.
Brief water shutoffs will be required to tie into the city's existing system.
Advance notification will be provided to all who will be provided to all who will be.
might be affected by this temporary interruption.
Now is the time to pre-register for the household hazardous waste event, which allows
residents only, not commercial accounts or apartment complexes, to safely dispose of unwanted
household hazardous waste. Registration runs through March 21st. The pickup dates will begin
next week from March 3rd and continue through March 28th. Please check the Prescott Recycles.com
to see what is allowed and what is not allowed.
Please place all items in a box labeled H-HW in front of your home six to ten feet up from your curb,
so it can be safely and easily seen by our contractor for pickup on your scheduled day.
If you have any additional questions, please call our Prescott Recycles.com team at 928-7771116.
Council will meet for an executive session tomorrow to discuss and consult with the city attorneys
regarding pending litigation and city matters.
We'll also receive an annual update related to such litigation.
The Council study session with starts at 1 p.m. tomorrow, February 25th, will be jam-packed
with four items of discussion.
Fiscal year 2025 mid-year budget report, ingress and egress requirements for development,
loud vehicles and noise restrictions, and city leases. During the Council 3 p.m. voting meeting,
we will discuss and consider a potential charter amendment to be placed on the ballot in August.
This amendment is designed to ensure that city-owned open spaces continue as such in perpetuity.
We have had several meetings to discuss this item, and we need to finalize language if we are to get it on the ballot in August.
We'll also consider the acceptance of three horse sculptures being offered as a donation to the city by sculptor Gene Galazan.
Council has been asked to approve a memorandum of understanding between the city and the Nature Conservancy
to formalize a mutual collaboration to evaluate locations and techniques feasible for grassland restoration on land zoned by the city in the Big Chino Subbasin, Northwestern.
of Paulden. Finally, we will consider the adoption of the proposed 2025 general plan and the
related ballot language. The general plan is required by law to be re-adopted or amended at least
once every 10 years. This plan is the public document that guides future land use decisions.
Zoning, rezoning, and new developments must be consistent with and conform to the city's adopted
General Plan. Once Council approves the general plan, it must be placed on the ballot to be voted on
by Prescott residents. Currently, we hope to get it on the August ballot. The Planning and Zoning
Commission meeting scheduled for this Thursday has been canceled. The City Council Subcommittee
on Appointments is seeking applications from citizens who are interested in serving on various
city boards, commissions, and committees. There are openings on the Building Safety Advisory and
Appeals Board, the Fire Board of Appeals, and the Workforce Housing Committee.
Boards, commissions, and committees provide opportunities for citizens to take an active role
in their local government, and I encourage you to consider applying.
The City of Prescott Civic Enhancement Committee is now accepting Accord Trust grant applications
from eligible nonprofit organizations that promote music and parks, especially for the children
of Prescott. These nonprofit organizations are encouraged to apply for funding for fiscal year
2026. The application filing deadline is 5 p.m. on Friday, March 14, 2025. Applications are
available on the City of Prescott website. I'm Mayor Phil Good, and I'll update you again next week.
Thanks for watching.
