Starting point is 00:00:02 Hello, I'm Mayor Phil Good with your weekly update. With a recent approval of the state budget, the city of Prescott is set to receive $15.3 million for infrastructure improvements at the Prescott Rodeo grounds. The funds which were originally allocated to Prescott Frontier Days in 2023 were in limbo after a Maricopa County judge ruled the allocation violated the state's gift clause. As a point of clarification, the city was not involved. in that litigation. I want to extend my thanks and recognition to Senator Finchham, along with the support of Representatives Wynn and Bliss, who are able to secure these funds for the
Starting point is 00:00:43 city to implement necessary improvements at the rodeo grounds as part of this year's legislative session. This is an important opportunity for the city of Prescott and our rodeo grounds. We look forward to investing these funds in the upgrade and renovation of the rodeo grounds in the best interests of the city, the rodeo, the participants, the visitors, and all other users of the rodeo grounds for their safety and enjoyment. We're joining the federal government in naming July as Parks and Recreation Month, and I want to take this time to remind every one of the beautiful parks we have in the city of Prescott, and of course, there's more to come. We have fields for baseball and soccer, brand new courts for basketball and pickleball, beautiful parks,
Starting point is 00:01:28 biking, and hiking trails, and so much more. These parks and recreational activities contributed fundamentally to our community's well-being and provide healthy opportunities for everyone. Be sure to get out and enjoy nature and the outdoors this month. The annual drinking water quality report for year 2024 is now available online. The water quality report is a comprehensive report issued by the City of Prescott Water Operations Division. This annual report identifies the sources of Prescott's drinking water provides water, provides water quality information and summarizes analytical tests of the city's drinking water supply
Starting point is 00:02:07 for the calendar year 2024. During 2024, water from the city's system met all applicable federal and state drinking water health standards. Ballots were mailed out last week for this year's August 5th primary election. There are two candidates for mayor and five candidates for three council seats. In addition, Proposition 482 regarding the Home Rule Alternative Expenditure Limitation and Proposition 484, which is an open space charter amendment, is on the ballot. This is a mail-in election only. Early voting is currently underway, and your last day to request an early ballot by mail is July 25th. Ballots must arrive at the county election center by 7 p.m. on August 5th, If you wish to vote in person, you can do so at the county election office in Prescott by August 5th, but vote centers will not be open for this election.
Starting point is 00:03:08 This is a good time to remind everyone that campaign materials are not allowed to be displayed or worn in any city-owned property, including council chambers, city hall, or the city hall parking lot. On July 8th, Council completed the first of two City Council study sessions regarding the effluent and wastewater pipelines and SR89 Improvement Project and opened the 60-day public comment period. Public comments will be collected at the project website. Staff has also added additional information to the project website Virtual Meeting Room, a project update, traffic impact analysis, and the three roadway alternatives presented to the project. the City Council. Public comments have been turned off on social media posts, so please make your formal comments on the project website, which is linked below. There will be a special council meeting on August 5th at 3 p.m., extending the discussion of the appeal from the developers of the
Starting point is 00:04:10 Prescott Plaza Hotel. This hotel is proposed to be located in the middle of Whiskey Row on South Montezuma Street. During this meeting, staff will provide a full administrative review, and report from the city's historic preservation specialist, as well as possible feedback from the Prescott Preservation Commission. The only city meeting this week is a Board of Adjustments meeting on Thursday, July 17th at 9 a.m. here in the council chambers. The City Council's subcommittee on appointments is currently seeking applications from citizens who are interested in serving on the following city boards, commissions,
Starting point is 00:04:49 and committees. The Fire Board of Appeals has two vacancies and one short-term seat to fill a vacancy. Applicants must be a Prescott resident. The Tourism Advisory Committee has one vacancy. City of Prescott Residency is not required. The Civic Enhancement Committee has one short-term vacancy. Prescott Residency is not required. The Prescott Preservation Commission has one short-term vacancy.
Starting point is 00:05:17 Applicants must be a Prescott Residency. Board's commissions and committees provide opportunities for citizens to take an active role in their local government. Members are appointed by the City Council upon recommendation from the Council Subcommittee on Appointments, following review of applications. The application deadline has been extended. The applications must now be turned in to the city by 5 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2025.
