Hello, I'm Mayor Phil Good with your weekly update.
Here's an update on the waterline break on Sheldon Street.
Public Works has engaged a contractor for repairs and the work is currently underway.
In addition to the waterline and asphalt damage to the adjacent curb, gutter, and sidewalk, they all must be addressed.
Public Works hopes to have the work completed by the end of this week depending on the weather.
The City of Prescott Forestry team will be performing tree services,
at A.C. Williams, Granite Creek Park on Wednesdays and Thursdays for the next few weeks.
Please be aware of the crew's presence in the park.
Granite Creek Park will remain open during these maintenance operations.
Did you know, between people and pets, the Willow Creek Dog Park hosts over 550,000 dogs and people annually?
The Willow Creek Dog Park sponsorship program has been set up to allow friends and users,
of the park to contribute to the improvement of amenities. Contributions to this project can be made
at the city's website. The funds will not be utilized for any routine maintenance of the park
only for amenity improvements. In the meantime, the park will be getting new turf in this fiscal year,
according to Michelle Stacey Schroeder, Recreation Services Administrative Supervisor. Michelle said
that a timeline for the new turf has not been established yet because we're still working
on the logistics and planning.
So stay tuned for more information,
and I'll let you know when we have news
and press releases will also be sent out.
The transfer station has a supply of wood chips,
and they are inviting you to come and get some.
They'll load you up for free.
Wood chips are great as ground cover
for natural weed and erosion control.
Just come down to the transfer station
at 2,800 Sundog Ranch Road,
Monday through Friday, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Stop at the scale and inform the attendant that you would like to get some wood chips.
Staff will direct you from there.
Please allow for a wait time window of about 30 minutes to get loaded.
Are you prepared for future monsoon flooding?
Yavapai County provides sand and sandbags for you at several of our fire stations,
including those in Prescott.
All you need to do is to bring a shovel.
Long-term water planning has been a major focus of mine since I've been the mayor.
Long-term planning is needed to maintain our local economy and the quality of life for current and future generations.
The city is currently in the process of assessing water supplies and demands for its customers.
Follow the progress at the city's website and participatepresskitt.com.
Both sites will be updated regularly.
The first informational outreach, a project overview, is now available.
You should have received your ballot by.
now for next week's August 5th primary election. In addition to council and mayor candidates,
there are two propositions on the ballot. The city is providing information on both Proposition 482
and Proposition 484 through social media posts on city web pages. Proposition 482 refers to the
Home Rule alternative expenditure limitation, and Proposition 484 refers to the open space charter
amendment. If you wish to vote in person, you can do so at the county election office on
Fair Street in Prescott by August 5th, but vote centers will not be open for this election.
Council has held the first of two City Council study sessions regarding the effluent and
wastewater pipelines and the SR 89 improvement project and has opened the 60-day public comment
period. Public comments are being collected at the project website. The project website virtual
meeting room provides up-to-date information. Public comments are turned off on social media posts,
so please make your formal comments on the project website, which is linked below.
Further meetings continue regarding the Plaza Hotel proposed for the center of Whiskey Row on
Montezuma Street. The Prescott Preservation Commission met last week to review the project,
and sent a recommendation of denial to the council.
A special council meeting will take place on August 5th at 3 p.m., continuing the discussion from the July 8th council meeting,
which included the developers of the Prescott Plaza Hotel.
During this meeting, staff will provide a full administrative review and a report from the city's historic
preservation specialists, as well as the recommendation from the Prescott Preservation Commission.
There are no city meetings this week.
I'm Mayor Phil Good and I'll update you again next week.
But please remember that we're still under stage one fire restrictions.
So be very careful with any outdoor open flames and equipment that may generate a spark,
which could lead to a wildfire.
Help us all to have an uneventful wildfire season.
Be fire wise.
Thanks for watching.
