Hello, I'm Mayor Phil Good with your weekly update.
At the end of this month, there will be several commemorative events marking the 12th anniversary of the June 30th, 2013 tragedy,
when the 19 Granite Mountain Hot Shots made the ultimate sacrifice, giving their lives battling the Yarnel Hill fire.
On Monday, June 30th at 1 p.m., the Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew Learning and Tribute Center,
located at the Pine Ridge Marketplace, will host a...
ceremony marking the 12th anniversary of the hot shot tragedy, followed by a seventh anniversary
celebration of the opening of the center. Also on Monday, June 30th at 4.42 p.m., Yavapai County
will mark the 12th anniversary by ringing the courthouse bells 19 times in honor of the fallen
heroes. There will be no public comment or program. This is intended to be a quiet moment of
reflection. In case you've not seen it, there is a Granite Mountain Hotchots memorial on the east side of
the Yavapai County Courthouse Plaza adjacent to Cortes Street near Union. The memorial was dedicated
last year in 2024 and stands as a year-round tribute to the 19 brave heroes. The city of
Prescott and Prescott Fire Department wish to thank the committee that worked for over 10 years to bring
this memorial statue to the courthouse plaza forever honoring.
our fallen heroes. I want to offer my personal congratulations to the City of Prescott Public Works
Airport Water Reclamation Facility, which has received a bronze award for the Voluntary Environmental Stewardship
Program from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, also known as ADEQ. This state program
awards participants who have a good history of environmental compliance and strive to go beyond what is
legally required protect the public health and the environment. The Bronze Level Award is a recognition
of facilities that do not have any violations on record with any environmental regulatory agency
and have maintained compliance for three years. As Gwen Roewich, our Public Works Director noted,
this is a great recognition of the commitment to excellence that the utilities group within
the City of Prescott strives to accomplish. Thank you to the entire team for
your efforts and attention to detail, which is evident for all to see and appreciate.
The accreditation assessment team for the Prescott Police Department is seeking public comment.
The Prescott Police Department is currently undergoing re-accreditation through the Arizona
Law Enforcement Accreditation Program, known as A-Leep. The accreditation is administered by the Arizona
Association of Chiefs of Police. Accreditation is a progressive and proven
approach that enables law enforcement agencies to assess and enhance their overall performance.
ALEP offers Arizona agencies a framework to demonstrate adherence to widely recognized best practices
and industry standards, promoting efficient, effective, and high-quality operations.
The Prescott Police Department first achieved accreditation in 2021. A team of assessors from the
Arizona Law Enforcement Accreditation Program will be on-site June 18th and 19th, 2025 to examine
all aspects of the department's policies and procedures, management operations, and support services.
As part of the re-accreditation on-site assessment, employees and members of the public are invited to
provide feedback to the assessment team regarding the department's compliance and accreditation standards.
Feedback may be submitted directly through the Arizona Law Enforcement Accreditation Program's official website.
Comments should focus on the agency's ability to meet the Commission's standards for accreditation.
The Prescott Police Department must comply annually with 174 standards to achieve and maintain accredited status.
According to Chief Amy Bonnie, quote,
Accreditation enhances agency accountability, minimizes risk and
liability, strengthens the defense against civil litigation, fosters greater community support,
and builds public confidence in the agency's efficiency and responsiveness to community needs, unquote.
Accreditation is valid for four years.
Please notice the new signs at the Prescott Public Library parking area.
Some of the parking spots are designated as two hours or less, and the library is requesting that drivers did not back.
into available parking spots.
The fiscal year 2026 City Manager's proposed budget is now available for public review.
The budget can be accessed on the new OpenGov platform, which offers a user-friendly interface
that navigates like a web page.
If you need more information on the OpenGov platform, please watch the Council Study
session from last Tuesday, June 10th.
During that meeting, our finance department provided in the...
overview on how to get the most information from OpenGov. That meeting video can be reviewed
at our city website, Facebook page, or YouTube account. Council will vote on the budget next week
on June 24th during the regular voting meeting. City meetings this week include the Airport
Advisory Committee on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at 2 p.m. at 6,500 McCurdy Drive in the old
airport terminal. The Board of Adjustment meets in Council Chambers Thursday, June 19th, at 9 a.m.
The Civic Enhancement Committee also meets on Thursday in Council Chambers at 3.30 p.m.
We are officially in our monsoon season now, which runs from June 15th to September 30th.
During this time of year, we can experience sudden and severe weather changes.
Please monitor the weather forecast carefully and take appropriate precautions. As a reminder,
we also remain under stage 1 fire restrictions in our local area.
Thank you for being especially careful this time of year to help us all prevent wildfires.
I'm Mayor Phil Good and I'll update you again next week.
Thanks so much for watching.
