Hello, I'm Mayor Phil Good with your weekly update.
Stage 1 fire restrictions have been put into place by the city of Prescott,
Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority, also known as Kaftma,
Yavapai County, and the Prescott National Forest.
Stage 1 fire restrictions include no residential burn permits to be issued.
Use of model rockets is prohibited.
Use of fireworks and other pyrotechnic displays are prohibited except upon approval
of a pyrotechnics permit.
No smoking outside of vehicles,
residential yards, or designated smoking areas,
and no outdoor use of firearm.
Cooking, warming, or campfires
that are ash or ember producing
are allowed only at approved
single and multifamily residential properties
and local parks,
but must be attended at all times.
These restrictions will remain in effect
until weather conditions improve throughout the area,
justifying their safe removal.
Please have a safe summer
and visit the Prescott Fire Department website
for further information.
Furthermore, most areas in Arizona
have some sort of fire restrictions
in place for part
or all of the summer months.
Information links are provided below.
The city of Prescott is in the process
of treating Watson and Goldwater Lakes
to improve water quality
and reduce algae and aquatic weed growth.
This treatment is safe
for drinking water, aquatic life, and recreational users, and will not restrict use of these lakes.
Now that election season is underway, we want to remind you of political sign restrictions.
Political signs may not be placed in the city right-of-way or in sign-free zones.
Citizens, staff, and elected officials are prohibited from wearing any election-related promotional
or campaign materials on or in any city-owned property, including counties.
Council chambers. Vehicles with city election-related bumper stickers or car magnets should not be
parked in the City Hall parking lot. In addition, according to Arizona state law, it is a class two
misdemeanor to knowingly remove, alter, deface, or cover any political sign, including signs for
candidates, ballot measures, ballot questions, or ballot issues. Class two misdemeanors are punishable
by up to four months in jail and a $750 fine.
If you see signs you believe are improperly placed in the right-of-way,
please do not remove them yourself,
but contact the Neighborhood Services Division at 928-777401,
extension 4999999.
The city of Prescott has received the first payment
of $548,873.89 cents,
in a series of settlement agreements related to P-FOS chemical contamination in city wells.
This payment represents a partial payment in the settlement with 3M.
Settlement payments will be made in 10 separate installments through 2033.
Additional settlements have been reached with DuPont, Tyco, and BASF,
with payments expected from these parties in the near future.
Many questions have been asked about this settlement,
and we want to let you know that the money is being used to offset our continuing costs for mitigation of PFOs in our water supply.
Settlement monies will not be added to the general fund.
Rather, they will be used for the design of a plan for a PFOs long-term treatment system.
Prescott had one single well that was determined to be out of compliance with the new EPA standard for PFS, which was set in 2024.
That well was taken offline, bring up to the water.
the Prescott water system into full compliance. Please be aware that the EPA has only regulated
two types of PFS and extended the compliance date to 2031. Although the city of Prescott is not required
to meet these new standards until 2013, we have removed the single well that was not in compliance
from our current water system out of an abundance of caution. In other words, we are not ignoring the issue.
we are taking a proactive and cost-effective long-term approach
to ensure the safest drinking water possible for our customers.
The City of Prescott is bringing back its Ambassador program,
and we're looking for friendly, service-minded volunteers
to help visitors navigate the new City Hall.
Ambassadors assist guests by directing them to the appropriate departments,
answering basic questions about city services,
and helping to create a welcoming atmosphere.
Shifts will be weekly or bi-weekly in three-hour blocks.
Hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
A background check and brief interview is required.
Please consider joining this renewed community-focused program to help people familiarize
themselves with a new city hall.
I want to remind you that the fiscal year, 26 City Manager-Proposed budget is now available
for public review.
The budget can be accessed on the new OpenGov platform,
which offers a user-friendly interface that navigates like a web page.
During the voting meeting last week, I am pleased to state
that Council approved a two-year sponsorship and event agreement
with epic rides for the Whiskey Off-Road event.
The cost of the sponsorship will be $70,000 each year,
plus the in-kind delivery of the venue traffic control, security sanitation,
waived permit fees, and a city liaison.
The value of the in-kind services is estimated to be at least 40,000 annually.
The agreement also includes a provision for the city and Epic Rides
will share the cost of an economic impact analysis that could provide a baseline for future negotiations.
I'm pleased that we have come to an agreement with Epic Rides to continue this premier event in Prescott.
There will be a special council meeting tomorrow, June 3rd, at 1130 a.m. in City Council Chambers.
to hear a presentation and discuss the updated City of Prescott 2025 General Plan.
This meeting is open to the public.
In other city meetings this week,
there's a council subcommittee on water issues meeting at 9.30 a.m. tomorrow,
Tuesday, June 3rd, in the council chambers.
The Mayor's Veterans Commission meets at Grace Park's Activity Center on Gurley Street, Wednesday, June 4th at 9 a.m.
The Community Development Block Grant's Citizens Advisory Committee,
will meet Thursday, June 5th at 11 a.m. in the council chambers.
I'm Mayor Phil Good, and I'll update you again next week.
Thanks for watching.
