Starting point is 00:00:02 Hello, I'm Mayor Phil Good with your weekly update. It's time to start thinking about wildfire season in our area. With the late spring and early summer months comes generally drier weather. And the increased wildfire threat. Wildfire is the greatest natural disaster threat our community faces. And we need to prepare our homes and businesses. And we also need to know how to respond in the event of a fire. That includes getting emergency.
Starting point is 00:00:32 information from a credible source. Please remember that wildfire preparedness starts with you. Protect your home by improving its safety or hardening against the threat of falling and blowing embers. 80% of the homes destroyed in a wildfire are from embers landing on or near the home. Make sure your roof is clear of debris like pine needles and leaves. Clean out rain gutters and remove any combustible materials within five feet of your home. This includes bushes, tree branches, stacked wood, lumber, and mulch. Remove lower branches on mature trees up to a height of six feet. The City of Prescott's forestry crew will come out and chip up any branches you cut. They perform chipping on Fridays and the service is free to Prescott homeowners, but you must call
Starting point is 00:01:20 9-28-777-1-700 to notify our crews of your needs. The city also provides free dumping of vegetation at the City of Prescott Transfer Station every Saturday in April, which can help get rid of materials that the crew is not able to chip, such as leaves, pine needles, cacti, root balls. More guidance on defensible space improvements can be found at Prescottfire.org. Here you can request an on-site visit from our wildfire risk manager for even more help to prepare your home. Look for more safety suggestions during my April updates. As I mentioned a moment ago, as I mentioned a moment ago, as part of our community-wide fire safety efforts, the City of Prescott is offering a free brush and vegetation debris drop-off event for our residential trash customers. This event runs
Starting point is 00:02:13 throughout the month of April every Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the City of Prescott Transfer Station located at 2,800 Sundog Ranch Road. Proof of City of Prescott residency in the form of a driver's license or utility bill is required. The event, dates are all on the following Saturdays, April 5th, April 12th, April 19th, April 26th, and May 3rd. Please do not bag the brush vegetation debris, do not place trash in the brush vegetation debris, and please remember to cover and contain all loads when transporting them. This is for residential customers. Commercial haulers will be required to pay the standard rate for disposing of brush and vegetation debris.
Starting point is 00:03:01 Did you know that next week, April 6th through the 12th, 2025 is National Library Week? This is a time to celebrate the many ways libraries bring people together, spark imagination, and support lifelong learning. The library offers more than books, including a wide array of resources, including seeds for gardening, book club kits, backpacks for hiking, and technology services. The Prescott Public Library is celebrating National Library Week in many ways. Library staff members will even be at the Prescott Farmers Market on Saturday, April 12th, sharing information, issuing library cards, giving out fun craft projects, and handing out free books for kids.

Starting point is 00:04:21 format. We look forward to hearing your favorite library stories. April is also Water Awareness Month here in Prescott and across Arizona. The designation was first made by our Arizona governor in 2008. Here at the city of Prescott, we are committed to providing information, education, and awareness into ways that we can effectively steward our very valuable water resources. Check for leaks, use water-efficient appliances, and incorporate mindful landscaping using native and other drought-tolerant plants. Check the Arizona Department of Water Resources plant palette list for
Starting point is 00:05:00 guidance at aZWater.gov. The City of Prescott offers rebates through our water conservation incentive program to encourage water conservation inside and out. We're committed to long-term planning efforts with the goal of delivering high-quality water while managing our valuable water resources. I hope you will all do your part to preserving our water resources because every drop counts. As Benjamin Franklin once said, when the well is dry, we'll know the worth of water.
Starting point is 00:05:33 The city of Prescott is working hard to ensure it never comes to that.
