Starting point is 00:00:02 Hello, I'm Mayor Phil Good with your weekly update. It's the most wonderful time of the year in the city of Prescott, well, except for maybe rodeo week. Be prepared for a full calendar of Christmas City festivities once Thanksgiving passes. There will be something for everyone to enjoy and appreciate. First up, will be Small Business Saturday, which takes place on November 30th. This is a day set aside to recognize and patronize local small business. We're encouraging community residents to support small businesses and merchants on small business Saturday, and of course throughout the year.
Starting point is 00:00:41 That same evening at 6 p.m., the 27th annual Holiday Light Parade will take place in downtown Prescott. Immediately following the parade will be the Bonfire Festival at the Mile High Middle School Field. Our Veterans Day Parade embodies the genuine appreciation our citizens show to veterans. This year's parade theme was, protecting our country, serving our communities, honoring our veteran-first responders. Congratulations to the winning entries from the parade. Emerald Aronautical University Air Force ROTC Detachment 28 was declared the best overall entry. Other winning entries include Arizona Nurse Honor Guard,
Starting point is 00:01:23 Copper State Detachment Marine Corps League and Copper State Young Marines, Prescott Antique Auto Club, Prescott High School Air Force Air Force. Junior ROTC, Northern Arizona VA Veterans, and Arizona Public Service. As a Vietnam veteran who's served in combat, I know that genuine expressions of appreciation from our community are very meaningful to our local veterans. I want to take this opportunity to thank Prescott Recreation Services Administrative Supervisor, Michelle Stacey Schroeder, who is also a veteran and her team of volunteers and city staff who help make the parade such a special event. An updated city general plan is required by Arizona state law and must be adopted by a citizen vote
Starting point is 00:02:12 every 10 years. The general plan is a land use document designed to project city growth and development in the next 10 years. We have a committee made up of citizens and staff members who have been working on this document for many months now. It has anticipated that the general plan will be voted on next year in 2025. The City of Prescott is seeking public comment on the draft, 2025 general plan document. The 60-day public comment period started on September 23rd and last through this Thursday, November 21st.
Starting point is 00:02:48 Please take advantage of this opportunity and leave your comments on the planpressket.com website under 60-day public comment period. There are three council meetings tomorrow, November 19th. Council will take in a morning executive session to do a six-month employment review of our city manager, Dallin Kimball. Personnel topics such as this are discussed in executive session, which are not open to the public. At 1.30 p.m. tomorrow, Council will have a study session to hear from Steve Pedigo and Laura Huffman of the firm Civic Solutions, who will present the completed City of Prescott Economic Development Strategic Plan.
Starting point is 00:03:34 They have conducted a series of meetings with council members, as well as various business, education, and resident stakeholder groups. Tomorrow we will hear their final findings and recommendations. At 3 p.m., we will have our voting meeting, during which we will appoint a mayor pro tem for a new term, and consider an updated community risk assessment and standards of cover from the Prescott Fire Department, which identifies the community's fire and emergency medical response needs using data analysis, identifying risk factors, and documenting community-specific demographics.
Starting point is 00:04:10 This planning document balances risk with response and contributes key information to the department's strategic plan and annual program appraisals. The original version was developed in 2019. In other city meetings, the Airport Advisory Committee will also meet tomorrow, November 19th, at 2 p.m. This meeting will take place in the old airport terminal building on McCurdy Drive. The Community Development Block Grants, also known as CDBG, Citizens Advisory Committee meeting will be at 1.30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20th, here in Council Chambers. The Board of Adjustments will meet Thursday, November 21st at 9 a.m. That meeting is also in Council Chambers. Election Day is over and I'm very pleased to report that the City of Prescott's
Starting point is 00:05:00 Public Safety Needs Proposition 478 passed by a significant majority. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to our local residents that voted to support public safety here in Prescott. We will be sharing a plan of action soon with the public. I want to assure you once more that all funds from this increased tax will be used for public safety purposes and nothing else. Thank you again. City offices will be closed next Thursday and Friday, November 28th and 29th, in observance of the Thanksgiving Day holiday. We will reopen on Monday, December 2nd.
Starting point is 00:05:37 The Prescott Public Library will close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27th, and we'll reopen on Saturday, November 30th at 9 a.m. Residential and commercial trash routes will not be collected on Thursday, November 28th.
