Hello, I'm Mayor Phil Good with your weekly update.
I want to offer a friendly reminder.
As we enter into the winter season here in Prescott,
temperatures will dip below freezing as we've experienced recently.
Frozen plumbing can lead to cracked or burst pipes,
so you want to make sure your pipes are winter ready.
Our Prescottwater.com website recommends that you remove garden hoses,
close the water shutoff valve that provides water,
to outside spigots and drain each line.
Be sure to wrap outside pipes with foam, insulation, or heat tape.
If a pipe breaks and you cannot get the water turned off,
call the City of Prescott Utilities Service Line at 928-7771118.
Prescott Fire Department recently acquired two specialized electric-powered mountain bikes
to assist with trail rescues and medical calls,
with a grant from the city's bed tax fund.
These bikes will assist first responders in getting to medical emergencies on steep terrain and narrow trails.
According to Captain Jason Baya, head of the Technical Rescue Unit for Prescott Fire Department,
these bikes will greatly improve response to emergencies on narrow, remote, or steep trails,
such as the New Bean Peak's Gravity Flow Trail.
Prescott has long been known as Arizona's Christmas City,
a title bestowed upon it by former Governor Rose Maw,
in 1989.
Holiday charm is showcased through a series of beloved signature events,
including the holiday light parade and bonfire,
the traditional Christmas parade,
the courthouse lighting,
Ackernight,
the German Christmas market called Chris Kindle,
and of course the Whiskey Road,
New Year's Eve boot drop.
Each event offers an enchanting and memorable experience,
welcoming visitors and residents alike,
to indulge in the joyous spirit of the day of the day.
the season. In recognition of this, Prescott has been named one of the top 10 best
Christmas towns in the nation by Newsweek, further cementing its reputation as the ultimate
destination for holiday cheer and festivities. Our Christmas City celebrations start this week.
In Prescott, we have something for everyone to enjoy and appreciate during this time of year.
This Saturday is Small Business Saturday, a day set aside to recognize and honor local
small businesses. We encourage community residents to support small businesses and merchants on
small business Saturday and throughout the entire year. Also on Saturday evening at 6 p.m.,
the 27th annual holiday light parade takes place in downtown Prescott. Immediately following the parade
will be the Bonfire Festival at the Mile High Middle School Athletic Field. I want to welcome Michael
Morris, our new deputy city manager. Michael comes from the state of Virginia and
began his duties with the city of Prescott last week. I know that he will be a valuable
assistant to city manager Dallin Kimball and an asset to our city. Welcome aboard, Michael.
The 60-day public comment period for the general plan ended last week on November 21st. I want to
thank everyone that provided comments and insight. All the comments are being evaluated and will be
presented to the general plan committee. It's anticipated that the general plan will be adopted by
Council during fiscal year 25 and placed on the ballot sometime next year.
Council does not meet again until Tuesday, December 10th.
The Council agendas will be published the Thursday prior to the meetings.
There are no city meetings this week.
Our next city meetings will be on Wednesday, December 4th, when the Mayor's Veterans
Commission will meet at 9 a.m. at the Grace Parks Activity Center.
On Wednesday, December 4th, the Workforce Housing Committee will meet here in Council Chambers
at 10 a.m.
City offices will be closed this Thursday and Friday, November 28th and 29th, in observance of the Thanksgiving Day holiday.
We will reopen on Monday, December 2nd.
The Prescott Public Library will close at 5 p.m. this Wednesday, November 27th, and will reopen on Saturday, November 30th, at 9 a.m.
Residential and commercial trash routes will not be collected on Thursday, November 28th.
The transfer station will close Wednesday evening and will reopen on Monday, December 30th.
2nd at 7 a.m. I want to wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving. I'm here Phil Gooden and I'll update you again next week. Thanks for watching.
