Starting point is 00:00:02 Hello, I'm Mayor Phil Good with your weekly update. The Granite Mountain Interagency Hot Shot Crew Tribute and Learning Center is hosting a fireside chat. Educational program next Tuesday, August 19th, to 3.30 p.m. at the Learning Center in the Pine Ridge Marketplace. The featured guest speaker will be Prescott's own, Conrad Jackson, Wildland Fire Risk Manager for the Prescott Fire Department. He'll speak about wildfire and more importantly, wildfire. fire prevention in our community. This is a free event and citizens are welcome to come and learn more about fire prevention strategies. Topics to be discussed at the fireside chat include what's happening with wildfires and the treatments to prevent wildfires in your community today. One spark can change everything.
Starting point is 00:00:53 They will also discuss what some of the future planned fuels treatments are and how we can be better stewards of our private and public lands. The featured speaker, Conrad Jackson, is the Wildfire Risk Manager for the Prescott Fire Department. Conrad has been a resident of Prescott for over 40 years and has 30 years of wildland firefighting experience, 10 years with the Forest Service, and 20 years on the Prescott Fire Department's off-district wildland team. He holds bachelor's degrees in both secondary education and biology. As the Center Board Chiefs, John Marsh explained, with preparation you can help save your home and property and the area around you in the event of a wildland fire. Starting point is 00:01:41 easier and help lower your insurance costs. You must RSVP for this event via the email below. Last week, we held our primary election in Prescott. Please understand that all the following information while it is as accurate as possible is still unofficial until the council gathers at a special council voting meeting to canvas and ratify the results. The date of that meeting will be announced shortly. As of the latest unofficial report, a total of 17,696 ballots were cast. For mayor, Kathy Rusing received 10,174 votes, and Brandon Montoy received 6,6. 8891 votes. For City Council, there were three four-year seats. Mary Fredrickson received 8,771 votes. Robert Jim
Starting point is 00:02:38 Gehring received 8,765 votes, J. Ruby received 7,670 votes, Henry Ebarb received 7,135 votes, and Greg Luzell received 6,856 votes. Based upon Prescott City Charter Article 9, Section 6, calculating a majority of valid ballots cast, unofficially, Kathy Rusing has been elected as the new mayor. However, none of the five council candidates have reached the majority calculation number to be considered duly elected at this primary election. They required at least 8,809 votes, which is the 50% plus one threshold of the to total number of valid ballots cast. Therefore, pending approval of the canvas by the City Council
Starting point is 00:03:31 at the special voting meeting, all five council candidates will move forward to the November 4th general election runoff. In addition to the council races, citizens voted on two propositions, which both passed overwhelmingly. Proposition 482, the home rule measure received 12,925 yes votes, and 3,914 no votes. Proposition 484 regarding open space received 14,475 yes votes, and just 2,718 no votes. I want to thank all of you who voted. The race is not over for the council candidates until November 4th at the general election, and I encourage you to consider each candidate carefully and thoughtfully as you cast your vote.
Starting point is 00:04:20 The last day to register to vote in the November general election is October 6th. Early voting will begin on October 8th. At the special council meeting which took place last Tuesday regarding the Prescott Plaza Hotel, counsel denied the appeal for approval of the updated design after receiving a full administrative review and a report from the city's historic preservation specialist. The Prescott Preservation Commission, the previous week and also voted to deny the new design. There are no city meeting scheduled for the rest of this week. The City Council's subcommittee on appointments is currently seeking applications from citizens who are interested in serving on the following city boards, commissions, and committees. The Pedestrian Bicycle and Traffic Advisory Committee has three upcoming
Starting point is 00:05:13 vacancies. Applicants must be a Prescott resident. Boards commissions and committees provide opportunities for citizens to take an active role in their local government. Members are appointed by the City Council upon recommendation from the Council Subcommittee on appointments following a review of applications. Applications must be turned into the city by 5 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2025.
